TRIGGER WARNING: This episode covers distressing content about domestic violence and physical, sexual and emotional assault.“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?”~Marianne Williamson“I can breathe. I can think.”When J'Anmetra was imprisoned in her home under the threat of her husband, this was her mantra. One that kept her alive and ultimately allowed her the ability to escape. According to SAMHSA (Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration) survivors of intimate partner violence are twice as likely to have multiple suicide attempts, according to a study published in the Journal of Injury & Violence Research, intimate partner problems were identified as a precipitating circumstance in 30% of all suicide cases in the National Violent Death Reporting System. And yet, the connection between intimate partner violence and suicide is under-addressed on many fronts. In this episode, we bear witness to the inspiring story of J'Anmetra Waddell and her courage to break free from the bonds of her abuser — her husband and the Pastor of her church. In the last 25 years, I’ve been covering ski racing, I find myself asking this every year: Does it seem there are more injuries than usual? But this year, injury reports are so frequent that my list has more than 50 World Cup names on it. While that’s still lower than the annual average, we’re barely halfway through the year. What’s more is that many of the very best skiers are getting injured. The implication seems to be that there might be no immunity, certainly when you consider the injury of last year’s Overall winner, Alexander Aamodt Kilde. Regarded by many as maybe the strongest, fittest athlete to ever have ski raced, Kilde tore his ACL mid-January, in what looked like an innocuous fall. Other World Cup winners or podium skiers that have been injured between summer and now include Thomas Dressen, Joseph Ferstl, Brice Roger, Mauro Caviezel, Ryan Cochrane Siegle, Tommy Ford, Lucas Bratthen, Sofia Goggia, Nicole Schmidhoffer, Wendy Hoeldener, Bernadette Schild, Alice McKennis Duran, Jackie Wiles, Laurenne Ross, Nicole Delago, Anna Swenn-Larsson, Nina Ortlieb, Romed Baumann and of course Ted Ligety, whose career ended on injury. There many more. So, I turned to someone who might be able to put some of this into perspective. My guest, Troy Taylor, is the High-Performance Director for the US Ski Team. He’s been paying close attention to the injuries and has some eye-opening insights. Like the fact that half of all injuries happen in races despite the fact 90 percent of their time, at least, is spent training. Furthermore, those racing injuries happen where training rarely take them, in the final stretch of full-length race runs. Then, once injured, the likelihood of re-injury increases significantly, and that holds true for up to 2 years after the initial injury. Our sport, as you might already have suspected, is about as dangerous as non-contact sports get, but maybe just by changing some of our habits, we might find some relief. Just listen …

He has received recognition from the Miami Dade Weed and Seed for his writing and direction of a nonviolence play for the City of Miami. Tommy Ford shares all on his intricately designed system to test his skis! All secrets on the table!
After two long weekends in Beaver Creek and Lake Louise for both the men and the women of the World Cup, Sean Higgins and Mackenzie Moran had a lot to analyze. Both writers were on the ground at last week's races, experiencing the action up close and personal. The men's side of the tour saw a couple of shake-ups in terms of podiums this week, with career-best finishes by 22-year-old Marco Odermatt in the super-G and Tommy Ford in the giant slalom. The women's side of the tour also had a couple of "unexpected" results, as Ester Ledecka won the first day of the downhill (another career-best finish) and a couple of women had break-through results in both the super-G and the downhill. All-in-all, who do we think will make a play for top spots in the disciplines contested this weekend? Well, it's up for debate. As always, listening is free and in addition to SkiRacing.com, you can also find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, or wherever you get your podcasts.

The clock is ticking on some various matters in the news this week. The first one that's that most important on the docket is the final Presidential debate. Donald Trump is bringing President Barack Obama's Kenyan-born half-brother, Malik, to Wednesday's third and final presidential debate. For 2017, Tupac "2Pac" Shakur, Janet Jackson, Pearl Jam, Chaka Khan, Chic, Jane's Addiction, and Joan Baez are being nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. If 2Pac is chosen as a member of the '17 Class, he would join N.W.A, Run-D.M.C., Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five as the only Hip-Hop acts to be enshrined. The clock is seriously ticking for Dr. Dre as singer Michel'e's Surviving Compton biopic was one of the most talked about television events of the weekend. The Lifetime movie depicted Dr. Dre as a drunken, abusive boyfriend. We also replayed our interview with Reginald "Bruh Man" Ballard @bruhman_5flo, as he discussed the passing of Tommy Ford of the MARTIN show; very emotional. Also in studio, we had local DC artist, "Lady Dame" @ladydameofficial. Check back with us to get all the latest - see what I'm sayin!

Today's Guest: Tommy Ford, star of the faith-based web TV series "The Club" and co-star of the long-running Martin Lawrence sitcom "Martin.” TOMMY FORD podcast excerpt: "Reverend Holmes was preaching a sermon and a guy jumped up in the middle and said, 'The Lord directs your steps? Did the Lord direct you to have sex with my wife? And so many other wives in this congregation? Was that the Lord, buddy?' And he pulls out a guy and approaches the Reverend. There is a struggle in the pulpit. The gun goes off and the husband is killed. Instantly, Reverend Holmes realizes, 'I disrespected my calling, I disrespected God, I disrespected my wife, I disrespected the ministry, I disrespected all of my members.' And he is sorry.” Key interview moments: • 3:45 Tommy Ford on whether there are similarities between the ministry and being an actor; • 12:30 An explanation of how "The Club" can be described as a faith-based comedy despite featured a scandalous storyline and often using coarse language about women and sexuality; • 31:35 Yes, Tommy Ford and Martin Lawrence are still very good friends. Today's Guest: Tommy Ford, star of the faith-based web TV series "The Club" and co-star of the long-running Martin Lawrence sitcom "Martin." INTERVIEW Tommy Ford, actor, Martin, The Club by andelman Watch this exclusive Mr. Media interview with Tommy Ford by clicking on the video player above! Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience full of cheating cheaters who want to cheat until they get caught cheating – or longer… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! Is it wrong that, in watching Tommy Ford’s new web TV series, “The Club,” I found myself rooting for his character, Rev. Lamont Holmes Jr., to fail? This is a married man of the cloth – emphasis on man – who loves women and has been with Siamese twins and prefers Oprah over Halle. We learn this when he applies for membership to a men’s club for philanderers whose inspiration come from Bill Clinton, among others. TOMMY FORD podcast excerpt: "Reverend Holmes was preaching a sermon and a guy jumped up in the middle and said, 'The Lord directs your steps? Did the Lord direct you to have sex with my wife? And so many other wives in this congregation? Was that the Lord, buddy?' And he pulls out a guy and approaches the Reverend. There is a struggle in the pulpit. The gun goes off and the husband is killed. Instantly, Reverend Holmes realizes, 'I disrespected my calling, I disrespected God, I disrespected my wife, I disrespected the ministry, I disrespected all of my members.' And he is sorry." “We are hounds!” exalts their leader, Mark Christopher Lawrence, whom audiences know from his five-year run on NBC’s “Chuck.” “We don’t want a way out. We want a way in.” Sharp-eyed TV fans will recognize Ford from his long tenure opposite comedian Martin Lawrence on the Fox sitcom “Martin.” But instead of the goofy sidekick, Ford has grown into leading man maturity and gravitas, which makes him even more convincing as the religious leader led astray by his man parts. TOMMY FORD podcast excerpt: "Martin Lawrence and I are still friends; I just saw him perform in Atlanta. Those friendships don't stop... Even when he co-starred with Kelsey Grammar!" “The Club” is described as a faith-based comedy but it is not intended for the whole family. Its humor is bawdy, adult and coarse, as when Lawrence’s character says of Ford’s reverend, “You are getting more tail than a toilet seat!” As for Ford, he has always stayed busy, whether starring in films in front of the camera or expanding his career behind it, building a reputation as a director and producer. Key interview moments: • 3:45 Tommy Ford on whether there are similarities between the ministry and being an actor; • 12:30 An explanation of how "The Club" can be described as a faith-based comedy despite featured a scandalous storyline and often using coarse language about women and sexuality; • 31:35 Yes, Tommy Ford and Martin Lawrence are still very good friends. Vinny Bucci in 2014, looking very similar to 2015Allow a few seconds for buffering.Yahoo! player or right click HERE to download | Launch pop-up playerShow number 40 is our longest show ever! It's literally too much show! Rock 100.5/Atlanta's Vinny Bucci returns. He talks about the series of independent film roles he's had in the past year, which includes being directed by former Martin cast member Tommy Ford. He also candidly discusses the dismissal of Eric Von Haessler from the Regular Guys morning show. Next, ATL-based punk band Onchi (pronounced with a long "O;" own-chi ) discusses how they came together to create a space punk band with synth bass and sci-fi-inspired lyrics. Controversial changes at the largest college radio station in America, Georgia State University's Album 88, are also mused over. Four Onchi tunes are featured: "EYEz," "Tonight We Ride," "Class War !" and "Black Nougat." 1 hour 45 minutes. Art's comments: "I thought combining a comedian and band would make for a more interesting show. It resulted in the longest show yet! This will be great for a long walk or morning commute. "Eric Von Haessler's exit and the sudden changes in the Regular Guys show have been of interest to all Atlanta radio fans. I was surprised Booch knew as much as he did and discussed everything openly. He's acquired a pretty impressive film resume, too, in just the past couple of years. "As for Onchi, I've been addicted to their Soundcloud page for about a month now. My interview with them kind of reminds me of the clip of Tommy Smothers interviewing Pete Townshend, though. (I'm Tommy Smothers in that analogy.)"
