From the BG Ad Group Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Today is Monday, August 5th, and I'm Keith Ippolito. Governor Brian Kemp has activated up to 2,000 Georgia National Guard troops in response to Hurricane Debby, which made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region as a Category 1 storm Monday morning. With sustained winds of 80 miles per hour, Debby is expected to bring heavy rains and flooding as it moves across South Georgia. The National Hurricane Center forecasts six to twelve inches of rain for the Golden Isles along Southeast Georgia's coast, with some areas potentially receiving up to 20 inches. This historic rainfall is likely to result in severe flash and urban flooding throughout Southeast Georgia and South Carolina until Friday morning. Currently, parts of Coastal Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina are under a tropical storm warning, with Debby anticipated to downgrade to a tropical storm by Monday night. Locally, expect cooler temps, breezy conditions and a chance of isolated thunderstorms Monday afternoon. For more news about our community, visit mdjonline.com. In this episode we're joined by our friend Cooper Watson from the Left Turn Cult to talk about a fun race weekend in Atlanta. We talk about SHR's struggles to start the season and if that organization can figure things out, Joey Logano's baseball Mit glove and more. We talk High Limits at Golden Isles and preview and make picks for the NASCAR triple header at Las Vegas this weekend and the World of Outlaws at Volusia
This week we cover the Golden Isles double header with the High Limit Series and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on tap. We also talk about the future of the ASCS series and the doubt that surrounds the series. Duane goes over the AFCS schedule with us and we talk about the Icebreaker at Lincoln Speedway in PA.
While traveling on family vacations to the Golden Isles while she was growing up, co-host Robin would peer out of the car window into the gray waters of Georgia's Altamaha River — searching for the Altamaha-ha. A long, scaly, aquatic cryptid with an alligator-like head that parascopes above the water's surface, the Altamaha-ha is rumored to swim so powerfully that boats rock in its wake. But are the tales of this much-beloved creature (nicknamed Altie by locals) true? Some believe it's instead an alligator gar — a fascinating creature in its own right that, however, lacks the "loch ness monster" quality of our dear Altie. In this episode, we discuss the recorded accounts and theories of Georgia's Altamaha-ha. But first, Zoey is here with her Something Spooky: the top 10 states for UFO sightings!Sources: https://hauntedhospitality.wordpress.com/2024/02/27/ep-151-tales-of-the-altamaha-haVisit us on Social Media! Influential filmmaker, music video director, and innovative kid's TV show creator Scott Stuckey is our guest. Grandson of the originator of Stuckey's, the 60s yellow-roofed, highway, pecan praline and gift shop franchise, Scott is quite the successful entrepreneur as well. Born in Eastman, Georgia and relocating to Washington, D.C., where his father W.S. Stuckey, Jr. was a Congressman for 10 years, Scott was attracted to the fledgling punk music scene, forging friendships that would affect his future in the film and music industry. While living in Athens, Georgia, he recorded bands in his home studio, working on projects with R.E.M. and Vic Chessnut. In 2003, he created Pancake Mountain, a music based, cable-access children's show that became a public-access cult classic featuring guests like The White Stripes, Eddie Vedder, Kings of Leon, Katy Perry, Bright Eyes, Shirley Manson, George Clinton, Chuck Leavell, and actress Juliette Lewis. Beyond those achievements, he directed music videos for Chessnut, Widespread Panic, and Garbage, to name a few. While visiting family in the Golden Isles, Something In The Water cohost, Sean Clark, made his acquaintance, leading the two to work together on a Pine Box Dwellers music video for “Devil's Den”, an original song cowritten by Sean and Uncle Dave Griffin, which made its internet debut two days ago. https://youtu.be/esl-hSEWzsI?si=7JRJU1LMkI-cZFf9https://www.facebook.comcautionlightmedia/https://www.instagram.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/https://www.facebook.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/somethinginthewaterpodcast@gmail.comhttps://somethinginthewater.captivate.fmhttps://www.patreon.com/somethinginthewater

As Ukraine prepares for months of frigid conflict with Russia, its troops might look to another nation that held its own against the Red Army in the cold: Finland. During the winter of 1939-1940, Finnish soldiers, many on skis and using snow caves as shelters, weaponized the freezing conditions, fending off the much larger Soviet Union army for 105 days and ultimately conceding only a small amount of their borderlands. Today, Finland's soldiers are some of the most advanced winter warfare specialists anywhere. In this episode from our archives, we head into the snow with the storied Jaeger Brigade for combat training and hear remarkable tales of how the Finns pushed back against Stalin's forces. Silver Bluff Brewing is passionate about Mexican Lager Jeff Coyle loves Mexican lagers. So much so that he wrote a detailed article to help others understand the style. If you think Corona when you think of Mexican beers, you should definitely read the article. But first, make sure to listen to our interview with Jeff and his brother Kevin Coyle. The duo are part of the team behind Silver Bluff Brewing Co. Their Mexican lager is a hybrid of sorts. Riding the line between the Clara (Corona) and another traditional Mexican style, the Vienna Lager. Right, Vienna Lager, traditional Mexican beer. Seriously. Locals went crazy for their take on this refreshing brew and it's their top selling beer now. If you're looking for something else they've got plenty of other beers on tap. As we talked they had just brewed a Dry Irish Stout to get ready for St. Patrick's Day, making us realize the holiday is closer than we realized. The Brothers Coyle love their community almost as much as they love beer and making a place where people could gather over a well-made, approachable pint is something their most excited about at Silver Bluff. If the beer and beer garden don't reel you in maybe the coastal scenery of Georgia's Golden Isles will. Maybe both? For now, their beer is distributed in a fairly small area but they are making more beer and hope to expand even further soon. DJ Kingblind presents The Big Beat online radio show Podcast- This week we talk about & play the best music in a themed Podcast called "Carolina Shag Dance Party" Though primarily confined to a small regional fan base, specifically to "Grand Strand" communities such as Myrtle Beach, Carolina Beach, and the Golden Isles of Georgia, in its early days what is now known as Carolina beach music or Carolina shag was instrumental in bringing about wider acceptance of R&B music among the white population nationwide. Thus it was a contributory factor in both the birth of rock and roll and the later development of soul music as a subgenre of R&B. #podcastsonamazonmusic #podcast #music #glam #uk #rock #djkingblind #applepodcasts #googlepodcasts #singer #dj #musician #danceparty #dancingmachine #soul #mind #spirit #spirituality #spiritual #funk #enlightenment #rnb #dancelife #dancefloor #dancers #instadance #dancehall #rock #metal #rocknroll #northcarolina #southcarolina #georgiaFind all links for DJ Kingblind here: https://linktr.ee/kingblindSupport the show

Get in contact with any pro that you can. Even if it's not directly a wedding planner. Offer to help them work a wedding day and see it from their perspective. Get in touch with people that resonate with your potential style. Do an internship. Go to a conference. Network. Ask question. Study. Take classes. Build up your cache of experience and information. When you shadow and intern, stay the WHOLE day at the wedding, the whole 10-12 hours. This is so crucial. There are so many wonderful elements of a wedding, but you have to have the ability to get through every part of it, good, bad, ugly.
