In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back to discuss the massive win over Michigan on Saturday night in the Coliseum and how the Trojans are looking to keep the momentum going in South Bend against Notre Dame. After being labeled as "soft" following the loss at Illinois, head coach Lincoln Riley used the bye week well, circling the wagons and getting his guys ready for a tough test against the Wolverines. By the end of the evening USC was unquestionable the tougher team, winning the battles at the line of scrimmage and resetting the expectations for the remainder of the season. The guys discuss what they liked from the Trojans victory over Michigan and how they were able to bounce back after that disappointing loss in Champaign. They also give an update on the dire injury situation with the top two running backs Waymond Jordan and Eli Sanders out and an offensive line that has been using a different lineup every week. There were also some national recognition for safety Bishop Fitzgerald following his two interception performance and walk-on running back King Miller who carried the load with 158 yards and a touchdown against Michigan. Miller has been special and he will likely get the first start of his career at Notre Dame. Ryan and Connor were both impressed with what USC was able to do Saturday night in the Coliseum against Michigan and both are looking for a similar effort in South Bend against the Fighting Irish. It is one thing to put it together at home, but it would mean a lot more if the Trojans could play well on the road against a ranked opponent. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return to the podcast medium to break down USC's massive win over then No. 15 Michigan at home in the Coliseum, giving Lincoln Riley his first signature win in the Big Ten era.  Shotgun spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' talking about the impressive performance by USC's offensive line, which continues to play well even without two season opening starters. Chris uses his time to talk about the electric atmosphere in the Coliseum and praise Trojan fans for their impact on the game. They then dive into Stock Up, Stock Down, which include the defensive front, Lincoln Riley, kicker Ryon Sayeri and more. The duo also discusses injuries to the running back room and the play of walk-on running back King Miller, who finished with 158 yards and a touchdown, and the dramatic second-half appearance from Bryan Jackson.  USC's top running backs Waymond Jordan Jr. and Eli Sanders were both carted off the field in the first half with injuries, leaving USC with zero healthy scholarship tailbacks. Sanders will miss the rest of the season while Jordan Jr. will be out four-to-six weeks with ankle surgery.  The Helium Boys dive into the second half of the show to preview USC's big road rivalry matchup with No. 13 Notre Dame. This could be the final game in the rivalry for the near future as the two teams do not have a deal to play in place beyond 2025. USC sent an amended offer late this summer toward a multi-year extension, which is more in line what the Fighting Irish wanted, but there has been no acceptance.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans impressive 31-13 victory over Michigan Saturday night in the Coliseum. Both teams came into the contest at 4-1 and both were looking to make a statement to the rest of the Big Ten conference. For USC, the need was greater after suffering that last second loss to Illinois on the road two weeks ago, and head coach Lincoln Riley used the bye week well to prepare his guys who put together their most complete performance of the season. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on what the Trojans did differently on the defensive side of the ball to force more stops and shut down what was a very potent Michigan run game. He also talks about the penalty situation, a nagging issue for this USC squad that became a non-factor on Saturday with only three yellow flags thrown at the Trojans and non of them on defense. It was an extremely important game for head coach Lincoln Riley, and following that disappointing loss to Illinois he used the bye week to get his Trojans ready for what was going to be a toughest test against Big Ten powerhouse Wolverines. The Men of Troy defensively passed that test with flying colors, holding Michigan to just 109 rushing yards and 316 total yards. The offense was exceptional as well, putting up 489 yards with walk-on tailback King Miller rushing for 158 yards (8.8 per carry) and a touchdown. The crew talks about how clean of a game USC played, even with a pair of offensive turnovers. The Trojans only had three penalties on the night, none on the defense, and allowed Michigan to convert just 2 of 9 on third down. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio taking a detailed look at USC's next opponent, the Michigan Wolverines. After Michigan's early season road loss at Oklahoma, the Wolverines have been playing better football and bringing along five-star freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood. USC had a great 4-0 start to the season before getting derailed at Illinois two weeks ago. Both teams have aspirations of making the college football playoff, but a loss on Saturday likely would derail those dreams. For the Trojans, this is easily one of the most important games in Lincoln Riley's tenure. With a bye week to get healthy and work on some of the Trojans defensive issues, it is imperative that Riley's squad comes out and plays good, clean football against one of the biggest brands in the Big Ten. USC has yet to have a signature win in its new conference and could get one if the Trojans can take care of business Saturday in the Coliseum. The crew talks about what USC was able to do during the bye week to get healthy while getting ready for Michigan, what some of the major matchups are against the Wolverines and finish the show with their score predictions for the game. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back to discuss how the Trojans used the bye week to get healthy and prepare for one of the most important games on the schedule, a home contest against the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines. After USC fell to Illinois as a touchdown favorite, Saturday's Coliseum matchup against the powerhouse in Maize and Blue becomes an almost must-win situation for Lincoln Riley's squad, especially with road trip to South Bend on deck. The guys go over some of the key matchups for this game, including a powerful Michigan ground game that could keep Jayden Maiava and the USC offense off the field for long stretches at a time. The Wolverines also rank in the top-20 in most of the major defensive categories, including forced turnovers and passes defensed. If Michigan can slow down the Trojan run game, it could come down to Maiava outdueling the stingy UM secondary. Ryan and Connor really want to the Trojans play a clean football game, limiting the major mistakes and forcing Michigan to outplay and outscore USC in the friendly confines of the Coliseum, far away from Ann Arbor. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com!  Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts and Spotify! Shotgun takes the time to discuss his bye week activities, which featured him attending a college football game off the clock. Michigan has rushed for 17 touchdowns, tied for eighth in the country with USC. Alabama transfer Justice Haynes currently leads the Big Ten with 654 rushing yards and eight scores, third in the conference. In-season re-rank of USCfootball.com's Top 30 Most Important Trojans for 2025

Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back together for a special behind-the-scenes edition of the Helium Boys Podcast. The Helium Boys work through the process of compiling and debating an in-season re-rank of USCfootball.com's Top 30 Most Important Trojans' list after five games of action. For the last six seasons, the USCfootball.com staff has counted down the Top 30 Most Important Trojans in a series of offseason articles leading up to the kickoff of fall camp. But we've never attempted an in-season re-rank, so this was a little bit of a new endeavor building off a familiar foundation. As always, each USCfootball.com staff member submits his own list of whom he/she believes will be the most important Trojans. Considerations for the rankings factor in a number of items including positional depth, prior stats, overall talent, projected development and expectations. The only guidance we try to follow is that the most important factor for placement is if this particular player was lost for the season, how detrimental would it be to the team and the overall success of the season. The individual lists are submitted and compiled before Shotgun and Chris come together to sift through the information, debate and assemble the official USCfootball.com rankings. In this podcast, the Helium Boys give you a peek behind the curtain, allowing you to listen in on the re-rankings discussion as we sift, sort and come up with our final rankings for our first-ever in-season re-rank. There were some notable high risers, including the tight ends who have been much bigger weapons than we anticipated. There were also a couple of players that had been in position battles that have taken the starting mantle and excelled. There also have been some players whose importance declined through a lack of impact play. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! It was a disappointing effort from the Men of Troy and they will need to use this bye week to figure out what went wrong and how they can fix it heading into an extremely important home game against Michigan. After rewatching the game, the crew talks about some of the highs that stood out, including incredible performances by Jayden Maiava, Makai Lemon and the tight ends, and the most concerning lows that included poor linebacker play, a lack of pressure from defensive line and poor coverage skills in the secondary. They also give an update from Tuesday's practice, where head coach Lincoln Riley put any rumors of rampant food poisoning that had a major impact on the players to bed, saying that a few guys were affected but it wasn't widespread and it wasn't an excuse for why they played so poorly. Coach Harvey Hyde diagnoses what went wrong in USC's 34-32 loss to Illinois

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the latest poor performance for the Trojans on the road, falling to the Fighting Illini 34-32 Saturday morning in Champaign. USC didn't look like it handled the multiple time zone travel and early kickoff very well, despite the team heading out to the Midwest a day early. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on what went wrong for the Trojans on this Big Ten road trip, with an offense that looked like it could do almost anything it wanted and a defense that looked confused and failed to pick up stops time and time again. USC had no business being in the game but somehow mounted a crazy 14-point comeback late, taking a 32-31 lead with under two minutes left in the game. Unfortunately the defense wasn't able to step up and the Trojans lead was short lived with Illinois kicking the game winning field goal as time expired. On the offensive side, Coach Hyde talks about how there shouldn't be any excuses for injuries, football is a physical game and guys get hurt. He wants to see a better rhythm with the offense and let quarterback Jayden Maiava run the football more. On the defensive side Coach Hyde thinks Lincoln Riley was critical of the defense for the first time. A couple of years ago Riley said he would be move involved with the defense but from what we can see, he hasn't been. He is also seeing a lot of confusion when the ball is snapped and guys don't look like they know what they should be doing. It doesn't appear that this group is playing as a cohesive unit and it's hard to win football games without a good defense. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio breaking down another disappointing road performance by this USC football team, falling to Illinois 34-32 in Champaign. The offense turned it over twice, the defense couldn't get a stop and untimely penalties, including one that wiped out a 75-yard touchdown, continue to plague the Trojans who fall to 4-1 on the season, 1-1 in the Big Ten, and out of the AP top-25. Despite all of the sloppy play and miscues, USC miraculously took a 32-31 lead with 1:55 left in the game, the first and only lead for the guys in Cardinal and Gold. Then the Fighting Illini did what they had done all game, moved the ball with ease against the Trojan defense, setting up the game winning 41-yard field goal as time expired. Both Ryan and Connor were in Illinois to witness this debacle and give their thoughts on what went wrong, from Kamari Ramsey getting food poisoning, to center Kilian O'Connor going down with an injury, the defense giving up 503 yards and over 12 yards per pass attempt and everything in between. In this special edition of Tunnel Vision hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio taking a detailed look at USC's next opponent, the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Trojans have started out 2-0 in Big Ten play, with a road win against Purdue and a home victory against Michigan State. Now the task at hand becomes more difficult, playing an ranked Illinois squad that was just humiliated on the road by Indiana. The Illini will do everything it their power to bounce back and use the game against the Trojans as their "get right" game, but will Jayden Maiava and company simply be too much for the Illini? USC's offense has been clicking with an explosive passing attack and relentless ground game and it will try and exploit an Illinois defense that has been decimated by injuries in the secondary. The Trojans have only punted four times all season and with Maiava taking care of the football, the points have been coming fast and furious. Defensively no program has sacked the quarterback more than the Trojans and no Power Four school has given up as many sacks as the Illini. If the USC pass rush can get home, it should go a long way to picking up a win in Champaign. This is the podcast version of our Tunnel Vision video show. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com!  Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the very late night victory for the Trojans, taking down Big Ten foe Michigan State 45-31 in the Coliseum. With the 8 p.m. local kickoff the game didn't get over until close to midnight and while it wasn't the cleanest performance, USC is now 4-0 and 2-0 in conference play. Coach Hyde starts the show talking about how improved this USC offense is and how he liked the game plan against Michigan State, utilizing two back sets, play action passes and quarterback runs. With one of the top receivers out and losing a top offensive lineman didn't derail this offense that is playing at an elite level right now. On the defensive side Coach Hyde talks about the much improved play of the defensive line, some shortcomings from the linebackers and how he feels the secondary is playing confused and it is hurting their ability to play at a higher level. Coach loves freshman Jahkeem Stewart and feels he has the potential to be a great player for the Trojans. Coach finishes by talking about the penalty situation for USC after another 10 penalty game against MSU. Coach doesn't mind the aggression causing flags but there are far too many mental errors that have led to punishing penalties. Tunnel Vision: USC offense continues to surge while the defense tries to find its way

On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio breaking down the Trojans 45-31 victory over Michigan State late Saturday night in the Coliseum. It looked like USC had put the game away but the Spartans, in large part to a series of SC mistakes, clawed their way back in the third quarter cutting the lead to just 7 points. At that point quarterback Jayden Maiava and the rest of the offense took over and created some much needed separation, thwarting any potential MSU miracle comeback. Through four games the offense has been elite with no turnovers for Maiava and only four punts on the season, one of which was garbage time in the final seconds of the Michigan State victory. USC is first in total offense at 584 yards per game, first in points per game at 52.5, 1st in points per play, 1st in yards per play at 9.1, 4th in nation with 7.1 yards per rush and 4th with 11.9 yards per pass attempt. It has been a different story on the defensive side of the ball, with some marked improvements over last season but also some major concerns. The front seven is getting after it, forcing a lot of negative plays and pressure on the opposing quarterbacks. However, the secondary is struggling with multiple busted coverages each game including two that turned into Spartan touchdowns on Saturday. The penalties have also derailed some of the better defensive efforts, including four flags on one MSU drive that turned a punt where USC got the ball back into a Michigan State touchdown. The crew talks about all of that and everything else they saw in the Coliseum and what their initial thoughts are heading into a tough road test against No. 23 Illinois. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio previewing the Trojans late night showdown against Michigan State. The Spartans come into the Coliseum boasting a 3-0 record with quarterback Aidan Chiles playing at a high level and more importantly, not turning the ball over. USC is coming off its first real Big Ten road win at Purdue and will try to secure another conference win before the huge road showdown with No. 9 Illinois. The crew talks about the state of this USC football program heading into the game with an offense that has generated more yards per game than any other program, the most sacks in the country and some concerns in a secondary that has struggled at times and is dealing with multiple injuries. Looking at the Spartans, there are certainly some concerns despite the undefeated record. The defense has been leaking, giving up points to FCS Youngstown State last weekend, and there are multiple major injuries that head coach Jonathan Smith is dealing with. Lincoln Riley faced off with Smith back in 2022 when the Trojans survived an upset bid from Oregon State. Eventual Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams struggled until late, finally putting together a touchdown drive to give USC a 17-14 victory in Corvallis. Smith will try to recreate some of that magic to give the Spartans a shot Saturday night, coming in as a 17.5 point underdog to SC. Coach Hyde gets into USC's 33-17 win over Purdue in West Lafayette that puts the Trojans at 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The game wasn't as clean as the first two in the Coliseum, but to be able to get a victory on the road against an improved team under bizarre circumstances with the over three hour lightning delay shows this team has some resilience and is capable of battling through adversity. The guys talk about some of the huge plays in this game, including the 360-pound defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett plucking a tipped pass out of the air and returning it 70-yards for the touchdown. The Trojans have had some big man touchdowns over the years, but no one as big as Jah who showed some impressive speed on his interception return. The podcasting duo talk with the lone scholarship returner from last season as Terrance Williams II joins the show to talk about his road to recovery from a broken scaphoid -- a small boat-shaped bone located in the wrist -- suffered last year during a game at Oregon. Williams discusses the trials and tribulations he endured during his rehab for an injury he initially thought would only require a short recovery and allow him to get back on the court by the end of the 2024-25 season. Williams talks about his relationship with Musselman and how it led to him returning to USC despite the rest of the roster departing. He also discusses his role as a leader this season and what the 6-foot-7 wing has seen from this year's roster as he's slowly worked his way back onto the court, though he's still yet to be 100 percent cleared for full contact. Coach Harvey Hyde shares his thoughts on USC's blowout win over Georgia Southern

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 8, 2025 58:23

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking USC's second-straight blowout victory at home to start the 2025 college football season, a 59-20 beatdown of Georgia Southern led by former Trojan head coach Clay Helton. Coach Hyde talks about the Trojan offense that pretty much did whatever it wanted, with huge plays in the passing game and a running back group led by Waymond Jordan that Coach Hyde really thinks can be special. Flipping over to the defensive side, there are more concerns there with the way the Eagles were able to pick up yardage in the run game and put a few scoring drives together against the Trojans. The USC coaching staff was rotating players early, but Coach wants to see they figure out their best lineups so they can be playing at an optimal level in Big Ten play. He would also like to see the linebackers be more of a presence and play in the opponent's backfield more and have the cornerbacks make plays on the ball more and prevent some of the coverage busts that have happened early in the season. Coach Hyde finishes the show talking about the upcoming game against Purdue, with head coach Barry Odom already doubling the Boilermakers win total from 2024. This road contest could be a significant challenge for the Trojans, and coach wants to see this team go into with a business like attitude, play well and come home with the first conference victory of the season. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Shotgun Spratling and intern Riley Sager are back in studio discussing the Trojans 39-point victory over Clay Helton's Georgia Southern Eagles. For the second straight week USC was able to blowout an overmatched opponent, easily covering the massive spreads and allowing backups to come into the game and gain invaluable experience. Following along on USCFootball.com's message board The Peristyle during the game, it was apparent that Trojan fans were expecting perfection against former USC head coach Clay Helton. The Trojans were never in danger of losing the game, were up by multiple touchdowns most of the evening and pretty much did whatever they wanted when they had the ball, but the P was acting like the sky was falling and this team would never win another football game. Ryan, Shotgun and Riley were all in the Coliseum on Saturday and give their thoughts on what impressed them from the Trojans, including a record-setting 755 yards of offense, and what concerns them including some defensive breakdowns that kept the game closer than expected early on. Tunnel Vision: Previewing Clay Helton's return to the Coliseum as Georgia Southern takes on USC

On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Shotgun Spratling, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio to preview the Trojans second game of a season, a matchup with a very familiar face that roamed the Coliseum sidelines for over a decade. The Clay Helton bowl is finally here, with Georgia Southern (0-1) coming to town to take on the Trojans (1-0) as a 28.5-point underdog. Last week USC boat raced an overmatched Missouri State squad, putting up 73 points and winning by 60. Georgia Southern flew all the way to Fresno only to get a second half beatdown by the Bulldogs, giving up 351 rushing yards and losing by 28 points. Even though this is the second-straight week of facing a lower level opponent, the Trojans should be highly motivated to put on a show against Clay Helton's squad. For years USC football fans wanted the administration to move on from Helton, and by the time they made the move and brought in Lincoln Riley the football program was in a bad spot, having gone 4-8 in the final season Helton started as head coach. USC appears to be back on the right track now, but between the fans upset at the Helton years and the staff knowing the huge hole they needed to dig out of, motivation should not be a factor in Saturday's contest in the Coliseum. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back to discuss the successful 2025 season opener against Missouri State with the Trojans putting a historic beatdown on the former FCS program 73-13. Now the focus shifts to Georgia Southern, a step-up in the caliber of opponent but still not a true test for a USC football team with higher aspirations than just making a decent bowl. The crew gives a few thoughts on what they took away from the week one victory, focusing mostly on younger Trojans, including true freshman Husan Longstreet, getting an opportunity for early development with significant playing time against live competition. With former USC head coach Clay Helton coming into the Coliseum this weekend, Ryan, Connor and India give their thoughts on what sort of reaction the crowd will have and how this USC football team will respond, knowing that a significant portion of the fanbase is looking for a similar result to last weekend against MSU. In their first game the Eagles looked good in the first half against Fresno State before falling apart in the second half. Helton and company are staying in California and are looking for a much better performance in week two, something Lincoln Riley will try to prevent from happening. After talking about this matchup, the hosts will discuss other notes around the USC football program including a few players retuning from injury and the reaction to removing the "drip check" from the Trojan Walk. Trevino offers some fan shoutouts while also preaching fans should enjoy the win but remember it was a much weaker opponent.  For the first time this season, the Helium Boys dive into their Stock Up, Stock Down segment, which includes safety Bishop Fitzgerald, Jayden Maiava, USC's big plays and much more.  The Helium Boys then dive into the second half of the show to preview Georgia Southern, led by former USC head coach Clay Helton. Georgia Southern is remaining in California for the week leading up to the USC game after heading West to play Fresno State. Tunnel Vision: Trojans start 2025 in style, putting up 73 on overmatched Missouri State

On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern Riley Sager are back in studio for the very first game recap show of a year, breaking down the absolute beatdown USC put on Missouri State. The Trojans took down the Bears 73-13, scoring at least 70 for the first time since the 2005 opener against Arkansas and putting up the most points since 1930 when USC hung 74 on California. It was a rude awakening for MSU who went on the road for its first game as an FBS program and got dismantled in the Coliseum by a very motivated Trojans squad. Offensively the Trojans were nearly flawless with only three incompletions thrown, 14 different players caught passes, 8 different players scored offensive touchdowns, averaged 10.5 yards per play, a perfect 7 for 7 in the red zone and one lone turnover on sack/fumble by backup quarterback Husan Longstreet. Defensively USC focused on using that bigger, more athletic defensive front to generate pressure and the plan worked, with the Trojans generating 5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. The defense forced a pair of turnovers including a pick-six, gave up just 224 yards and a paltry 3.9 yards per play and 2.2 yards per rush. The crew talks about this near flawless performance and what it means, if anything, for this football team going forward. They also discuss the differences from last season including that improved defensive front, the impressive running backs room, Jayden Maiava keeping the ball out of harms way, a different vibe during warm-ups and dropping the "Drip Check" individual entrance for a more team-focused approach. Coach Harvey Hyde breaks down the Trojans 73-13 dismantling of Missouri State

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 31, 2025 61:35

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking USC's home opener against Missouri State. Looking to erase some bad memories from last season, the Bears took the brunt of the Trojans frustrations head on, falling 73-13 in the Coliseum in MSU's very first game as an FBS program. Coach Hyde starts off talking about what USC can get out of a blowout like this, feeling that such an overmatched opponent that didn't put up much resistance makes it harder to evaluate your own team. Even though most everything went right for USC, it was still a great opportunity to play against live competition, it just lacked some of the adversity a team will face during the season like 3rd and long situations or two-minute drills. Looking at the running backs, with everyone doing well every time they touched the ball and even a walk-on scoring for the first time in over 20 years, it makes the player evaluation that much harder. He did feel the offensive line played well but wanted them to not look back if they were blocking down field, a position they were in often since the run game was so successful. Coach said his message to his team this week would be that we are not world beaters just because we won by 60. He'd like to see some full scrimmaging this week just to get some better game conditioning that the starters weren't able to get on Saturday. He feels Georgia Southern might be something similar and this team really needs to get ready for week three on the road against a Purdue squad that looks much improved over last year. He finishes the show talking about USC dropping the "drip check" coming into the Coliseum and how he feels its a step in the right direction with players coming off the bus looking like a team instead of a bunch of individuals. Re-ranking USCfootball.com's Top 30 Most Important Trojans for 2025

Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back together for a special behind-the-scenes edition of the Helium Boys Podcast. The Helium Boys work through the process of compiling and debating a post-fall camp re-rank of USCfootball.com's Top 30 Most Important Trojans' list. For the last six seasons, the USCfootball.com staff has counted down the Top 30 Most Important Trojans in a series of offseason articles leading up to the kickoff of fall camp. Each year under Lincoln Riley, the USC roster has seen significant turnover each year making it a bit of a guessing game trying to figure out who is going to play and how valuable they are going to be toward the team's success, so we've incorporated a re-rank when the Trojans' football team makes the transition from fall camp to game preparation in the week leading up to the season opener. Each USCfootball.com staff member submits his own list of whom he/she believes will be the most important Trojans. Considerations for the rankings take in a wide range of factors including positional depth, 2024 stats, overall talent, departures from the previous season, projected development and expectations. In this podcast, the Helium Boys give you a peek behind the curtain, allowing you to listen in on the re-rankings discussion as we sift, sort and come up with the final preseason rankings. The re-rank includes several risers on the defensive side of the ball, including offensive linemen Tobias Raymond and Justin Tauanuu, as well as players whose importance declined whether through an inability to lock up a starting role or the emergence of other players. Last season head coach Ryan Beard led MSU to an 8-4 record, 6-2 in the Missouri Valley, good for 4th place in the conference. This season the Bears move up to Conference USA and will try to shock the world with an upset of USC on the road.
