We are here for another House Theory Thursday, our segment where we compare golf courses in a match play format. Hole 1 vs Hole 1, Hole vs Hole 2, and so on and so forth. Our idea of House Theory is to describe each hole based on its merits as the hole it is. Like a great house, every piece of a golf hole needs to match up. The green size, difficulty, length, surroundings, it all needs to fit. So, while it can be hard to compare a par 3 to a par 5, we can do it more successfully deciding which hole works better in and of itself. Fun matchup today with 2 newer golf courses that both promote topography, firm playing conditions, and creativity. Hope you all enjoy this conversation. Thanks for the support as always! By Davy Crockett Ted Corbitt, from New York City, has been called “The Father of American Ultrarunning.” Today, most ultrarunners have not even heard his name and do not understand what he did for the sport that we enjoy today. Ultrarunning has existed for more the 200 years, but with the Great Depression and World War II, it went on a long hiatus in America. Because of Corbitt's efforts, running past the marathon distance took root in the New York Ciry area, starting in the late 1950s. Not only was he a world-class runner, but he became a talented administrator, coach, and race director that made huge contributions toward innovations to the sport that we take for granted today. All ultrarunners need to take time to learn who this man was and not let the memory of him fade. He was the first person to be inducted into the American Ultrarunning Hall of Fame. Because of his significance to the sport, this will be a multi-part article/episode. Visit TedCorbitt.com to learn far more about this amazing athlete and man. Also, you can read his official biography by John Chodes: Corbitt: The Story of Ted Corbitt, Long Distance Runner. Theodore “Ted” Corbitt (1919-2007) was born in Dunbarton, Barnwell, South Carolina, to John Henry Corbitt (1894-1974) and Alma Bing (1895-2003). Dunbarton was a railroad stop town with agriculture as the main focus. His father, John, was a cotton and corn farmer and part-time preacher. Ted's Grandfather, Ezekiel Bing Corbitt's ancestors from the Corbitt and Bing lines were enslaved in South Carolina for many generations. His grandfather, Deacon Zeek Bing (1855-1938) was born into slavery, also in Barnwell County. In 1860, there were at least 17,000 slaves in the county. Most of them had ancestry from Angola, Africa. Children on the cotton plantations started to work by about the age of five and by 10-12 years old did hard adult work. When freedom came after the Civil War, the hard work as freedmen to survive in South Carolina did not go away. Ted Corbitt was the oldest child in his family. He later had two sisters, Bernice (Corbitt) Buggs (1926-2006) and Louise Estelle (Corbitt) Fairbanks (1927-2022) and a brother, Elijah Corbitt (1928-1999). As a youth, Corbitt worked hard on the family farm, which eventually grew to 160 acres. At times, he would pick more than 100 pounds of cotton in a day. He had to walk or run a total of four miles each day to get to and from his school, using the narrow, dusty roads and trails. His grandfather, Henry Corbitt (1873-) lived nearby. Grandpa Corbitt had good running and jumping abilities as a youth, and he inspired Corbitt with stories of his athletic adventures. The Bings, who were his mother's relatives, enjoyed greater financial success, and his mother's ambition encouraged him to succeed academically and attend college. In 1929, Corbitt's family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, when he was around nine years old, due to the challenges of farming in South Carolina. During the Great Depression, they lived in the West End, which was the center of Cincinnati's black community. The neighborhood was reminiscent of a slum, with a high concentration of inexpensive housing covering a 35-block area. It was the home to 70% of the city's black community. Times were very hard. His father worked as a pick and shovel laborer. They lived at 1027 Richmond Street, which is now a freeway (I-75). Corbitt encountered athletics after arriving in Cincinnati. In junior high, he entered a 60-yard dash and won. As he got bigger and stronger, he became faster. At Woodward High School, he joined the track team. Compared to other high schools in Cincinnati, the school on Sycamore Street had the most inadequate facilities, including the absence of a sports field. Tarzan Brown It was not until his final year of high school that he really excelled in the 880-yard run. He finished fourth in the city championship. During his high school years,

This week we catch up with Jeff Pfeifer and Serena Wellen from LexisNexis to discuss the rapid development of AI tools for the legal industry over the past year. Pfeifer and Wellen give us an insider's view of what it took to bring their Lexis+ AI tool to the market and the balance between speed to market and getting solid customer guidance on what they need in a legal-focused Generative AI tool. Between the initial version released to a select group of customers and the current version, the product grew from an open-ended chat interface into more of a guided resource that helps users on creating and following up on prompts. As with most AI tools created in the past year, there is still more potential as more and more customers use it and give critical feedback along the way. In addition to Lexis+ AI, LexisNexis has now launched two additional AI products - Lexis Snapshot and Lexis Create. Lexis Snapshot summarizes legal complaints to help firms monitor litigation. Lexis Create brings AI capabilities directly into Microsoft Word to assist with drafting and research while lawyers are working on documents. The goal is to embed insights where lawyers are actually doing their work rather than separate AI tools. While the focus of the initial Generative AI tools from LexisNexis were focused on the US market, Serena Wellen and her team are busy expanding that to more of an international reach. This requires adapting the models, content, and interface to different languages and legal systems. This is complex undertaking, but Wellen discusses how LexisNexis has content and editors around the world to help customize the tools. Surprisingly, desired use cases are fairly consistent globally - both simple legal tasks as well as more advanced legal research and drafting. Greg Lambert brings up a recent LinkedIn discussion that he had with Microsoft's Jason Barnwell, where Barnwell told him that today's version of Generative AI tools are “the worst these things will ever be.” In response, Pfeifer says that LexisNexis is focused on continuously improving answer quality to build trust and prove the value of AI to skeptical lawyers. LexisNexis is leveraging relationships with companies like Microsoft to reinforce the stability and progress being made. Wellen and Pfeifer look into the future and predicted that AI assistants will become highly personalized to individual lawyers. AI agents will also proliferate across platforms to help automate tasks and workflows. Law firms will likely accelerate their adoption of AI tools based on rising expectations and demands from corporate legal departments to work more efficiently. Here at the SOLA Network, we host illuminating conversations on the intersection of faith and identity. We continue this discussion with an interview with Michelle Lee-Barnewall, author of A Longing to Belong: Reflections on Faith, Identity, and Race, which discusses the topics of race and race relations by integrating a biblical worldview and her personal experiences. SOLA Editorial Board member Daniel K. Eng interviewed Dr. Lee-Barnewall, who is also a professor at Biola University, about her book and her background. Their conversation included: Dr. Lee-Barnewall experiences growing up as the only Asian family in Northern Minnesota The tension between individual identity and the unity emphasized in Christianity. The idea that “rejection is a form of death” and, in contrast, the life-giving nature of acceptance. The deep connection between biblical reconciliation, grace, and the desire for genuine belonging. We hope you are encouraged by their conversation as you resonate with the longing we all have to belong. ESPN's Bill Barnwell broke down which players in the NFL would command at least one first round draft pick in the NFL draft for each team, including the Carolina Panthers. Barnwell wrote that Brian Burns would be worth two first-round picks, while QB Bryce Young would be worth a first-round pick and other low round picks, while CB Jaycee Horn would command a first-round pick. Tim Donnelly & Dennis Cox discuss how the value for Burns is too great to pass up if you're Carolina Panthers GM Scott Fitterer and owner David Tepper. Are college athletes employees? Tim Donnelly points out that college athletes can already be considered employees, but if college players are employees are not doesn't change anything for college sports fans.
“Saquon Barkley to the Ravens = SuperBowl” - Bart Scott Buffalo 14, N.Y. Giants 9 Bills What does the Bills' offense need to correct? After scoring 37-plus points in three straight games earlier this season, the Bills have been held to 20 points or fewer in two straight. There isn't just one problem to fix. While Sunday's second half was a big improvement (quarterback Josh Allen completed all but one of his second-half passes), the first half was a mess as Allen struggled with pressure (0-of-4 under duress) and going downfield (1-of-6 for 28 yards and an interception on throws with 15 or more air yards). Buffalo also needs to get more players involved. Receiver Stefon Diggs had 16 targets, and everyone else combined had 12. Stock up after the win: Red zone defense. The Giants' offense had multiple opportunities to build a big lead, but Buffalo's defense stepped up when it was needed most and held the Giants 0-for-4 on trips to the red zone. Stock down after the win: The offense, especially early in games. Slow starts are becoming a problem for Buffalo as the offense was held scoreless through three quarters for the first time since Allen's rookie season (2018 vs. the Packers). The Bills' franchise-best streak of 60 straight halves with points was snapped just a week after scoring only seven points in the first three quarters against the Jaguars. -- Alaina Getzenberg Next game: at Patriots (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET) Giants Can the Giants build off this performance? The Giants led into the fourth quarter and would've been in a commanding position had they not botched the end of the first half. But at least this team showed some fight. The Giants' defense also has played well. In this game, it shut out the Bills in the first half. We'll also see a healthier Giants team in the upcoming weeks. Running back Saquon Barkley flashed in the second half, quarterback Daniel Jones has a chance to return next week from a neck injury and left tackle Andrew Thomas might be only a few weeks off. The schedule also gets a bit easier (vs. Washington, vs. Jets, at Raiders). EDITOR'S PICKS How nine injuries from Sunday could affect the NFL playoff race: Barnwell ranks them 1 to 9 37mBill Barnwell Let's overreact to NFL Week 6: Graziano on the Lions' dominant win, Browns' elite D and Jets' playoff hopes 14mDan Graziano 'Don't poke the bear': An oral history on how PJ Walker and the Browns shocked the 5-0 49ers 43mJake Trotter and Nick Wagoner Stock up after the loss: LB Bobby Okereke. He was all over the field Sunday night, making 11 tackles, forcing a fumble and tipping a pass that was intercepted by linebacker Micah McFadden. He's the one free-agent acquisition who has been an unequivocal hit for this regime. Stock down after the loss: Game management. With 13 seconds left in the first half, the Giants ran the ball from the Bills' 1-yard line but were stopped short with no timeouts. They came away without points, which falls on veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor and coach Brian Daboll. -- Jordan Raanan Next game: vs. Commanders (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET) via @espn Social: Twitch-http://twitch.tv/GmiasWorld Facebook-http://www.facebook.com/GmiasWorld Twitter-https://www.twitter.com/GmiasWorld Donate:https://streamlabs.com/gmiasworld Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/GmiasWorld GmiasWorld Merch: https://gmiasworld.myspreadshop.com Background Music (Exclusive) by @ZaneAlexanderNC #nfl #gmiasworld
