In This episode of Takin A Walk, Buzz talks to a salt-of-the-earth southerner with a straight-shooting swagger and kind smile, Shane Profitt. Shane’s musical toolbox is full of all-natural talent. At the end of 2021, he was still pulling overtime at his job with the city, busting his back about an hour south of Nashville and living for the weekend — with a few decades left to go. But now, the 23-year-old is rocking sold-out crowds at the historic Ryman Auditorium, earning standing ovations at the Grand Ole Opry, and writing modern Country tunes so genuine, they slip on like a pair of broken-in work boots — because no one has to tell this singer-songwriter what a blue-collar life is all about. Profitt’s journey starts about two years ago when his grandad asked what he wanted for Christmas and his wish was to learn how to play Hank Jr. songs on the guitar. Beginning with G, C, and D chords, he stuck with it. Gifted with a heavy-duty vocal, Profitt became a regular draw at the popular southern cooking chain, Puckett’s, traveling all over Tennessee to weekend shows while still holding down his job back home. While that made for some long hours, it also led to inspiration for original music. On his latest track, “Still Picks Up,” the emerging artist introduces more layers and emotion to his usual feel-good, windows-down sound, storytelling in a way that hits close to home every time. The vulnerable tune follows the debut of his boots-on-the-ground writing style and big, barrel-chested voice on the 3-song collection Maury County Line (BMLG Records/Harpeth 60 Records). With tracks like the hook-filled honky tonker "Better Off Fishin'," chest-thumping charmer "Guys Like Me," and his hopeful heaven-on-earth Top 15 Country radio single "How It Oughta Be,” it’s clear he puts his life to music — along with the lives of so many others. The Tennessee native is just getting started, gearing up for his highly anticipated debut album this fall. For more information, visit shaneprofitt.com. Anthony Matarese Jr., recently released his book "Straight Shooting, a World Champion's Guide to Shotgunning". The Dead Pair got their claws on this book at the 2022 US Open, and after reading it cover to cover, it was time to have Anthony on to discuss the book. We discussed everything from how, when, and why he wrote the book, what's in it, and why YOU NEED this book if you want to be a competitive shooter. No one can questions Anthony's accolades, and to say that he is an authority on sporting clays would be an understatement. It's all in the book, and we cover it on this podcast to give you his perspectives and some insight as to what's behind the pages. -Anthony Matarese web site -https://clayshootinginstruction.comDirect link to purchase the book - https://clayshootinginstruction.com/product/straight-shooting-book/ - Dawn Grant -https://dawngrant.com. Host Jeff Plumblee interviews Ben Morabito and Jay Sturm of Irreverent Rogue, about the leadership tools of project management. The conversation goes in-depth on the necessity of alignment between corporate strategy and the PMO, reasons PMOs may fail, knowing who the PM needs to talk to and when, and the importance of soft skills in project management. Ben and Jay share their best and worst project experiences, and how those projects ended, They advise listeners on the various aspects of project management and how, in the end, if you don't have a strong team dynamic, you will not have a successful outcome. Listen in to hear wisdom about smoothing the path for your projects. Key Takeaways: Ben and Jay worked together in a PMO. They had so much in common that they started Irreverent Rogue encompassing their attitude toward project management, business processes, and life, with a vision to improve PM tools. Jay describes common problems of small companies and when they need a PM. Jay says most people don't know how to calculate the critical path. If you have a tool that can calculate it, that goes toward project health. Ben considers gut feelings in project health. It's critical to start a project having a calculated ROI. Some people start a project to “save time.” How much time? What's the ROI? Ben tells how unknown risks shrink as the project progresses. Ben suggests how to use the Project Manager Body of Knowledge®. Ben explains building a PMO. Start with the client's objectives and the strategies of departments to meet them. Connect the PMO with business management to prioritize projects. Jay says a baked-in guidance component is missing from many systems. A lot of folks are not trained PMs and they need an assist. Ben advises walking untrained PMs through the system, setting them up for success. Ben tells all about his worst difficulty and best success — one huge project. Jay shares his best and worst experiences. The best was a team that delivered ahead of time, and the worst was tied to a bad actor — an executive who undermined the project! Jay also elaborates on the art of project management. You need more than the PMP® to be a competent PM. It's science plus art!
