I talk about the Surface Pro X I got at the beginning of the year and what the pro's and cons of it are. More at www.knightwise.com Twitter: twitter.com/knightwise Added by Ken when posting From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Surface Pro X is a 2-in-1 detachable tablet computer developed by Microsoft. It was developed alongside and was announced on 2 October 2019 alongside the Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3.[1] Updated hardware was announced alongside Surface Laptop Go and Surface accessories on October 1, 2020[2] and September 22, 2021.[3] The device starts at $899.99 USD / £849.99.[4][5] The Surface Pro X comes with a Microsoft SQ1 or SQ2 ARM processor, which the company claimed has three times the performance of an x86 MacBook Air, whilst also having a 13-hour battery life. This is due to the increased power efficiency of ARM processors compared to traditional x86 processors.[1][6][7] Microsoft has previously used ARM processors in the discontinued Surface RT and Windows Phone devices. Microsoft now offers a Wifi-only version of the device as announced at their Surface Event on September 22, 2021.[8]

This week it's all about Microsoft, with the company unveiling a slew of shiny new Surface products in the lead-up to the release of Windows 11. HMD Global also made a play in the affordable 5G phone space – with the Nokia G50 and iOS 15 is finally making its way to users' iPhones, but is it any good? Wednesday saw Microsoft's Panos Panay excitedly zip around an army of new Surface hardware; from the somersaulting Surface Laptop Studio to the powerful new Surface Pro 8, while we were also introduced to timely refreshes of the company's Surface Go and Surface Pro X 2-in-1s. The oddball Surface Duo also got a sequel in the Surface Duo 2, which offers up better cameras, beefier performance (and 5G) – led by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset – and a new, curvier design that means you can few aspects like notifications and battery level while the Duo 2 is closed. In light of the iPhone 13's launch, Apple also rolled out the official release of iOS 15 to the masses, complete with FaceTime support on Android and Windows, Notification Summary and (among numerous other features) new portrait mode options – even in third-party apps. Lastly, HMD Global continues doing what it does best - releasing low-cost Nokia-branded Android phones that promise a clean design, lightly tweaked user experience, and long-term OS and security updates. The main difference with the new Nokia G50 is that it's the first of the company's 5G-capable phones to come in at a budget asking price, making it one of the only offerings not from a Chinese phone maker; whether it'll find success, however, is another matter. As Captain Steven Scott is off wreaking havoc to buffets across the Seven Seas, it's down to Marc Aflalo and Shaun Preece to take the helm of the good ship Double Tap Canada this week. After the rather forgettable Apple event last week, it seems that the DTC team are more than a little impressed with the products Microsoft has unveiled at their Surface event. Top of the wish list is the new Surface Laptop Studio. With a fantastic looking design and powerful tech specifications, could this be the must have laptop of the year? Also, there is an update to the popular Surface Pro range with the Surface Pro 8. Again, Microsoft has delivered on the sleek design and powerful hardware. Is this the laptop replacement the iPad wants to be? Speaking of which, can the new Surface Go stand up against the new iPad Mini 6? There's also the much-anticipated, Android powered, dual screen phone, the Surface Duo 2. With an updated processor and the addition of 3 rear cameras, Marc can't wait to get his hands on one. And staying with ARM powered devices, Microsoft also unveiled the new Surface Pro X. Running Windows 11 for ARM and with the ability to run legacy x86 and x64 software in emulation, will we finally see a Windows ARM device that average consumers will want? If you have an opinion you'd like to share on the show, you can do so by emailing feedback@ami.ca. We'd love to hear from you.

It's product announcement season, and this week was Microsoft's turn. The company slid out a few new Surfaces, a weird flippy laptop thing, and an eco-friendlyish mouse that looks like a bar of soap. Microsoft also doubled down on its dual screen mobile design with the Surface Duo 2, a device that we're still not quite sure what to do with. This week on Gadget Lab, WIRED product and reviews writer Brenda Stoylar joins us to talk all about Microsoft's hardware announcements and the future of the company's multiple screens and detachable keyboards.
