Welcome to Episode 150 of Nintendo Therapy! Kevin is joined by Harrison to clear the calendar and ask the big end-of-year question: was 2025 a true Power Star year for Nintendo, or did it slip on a banana peel? We break down Nintendo's surprisingly stacked release schedule—from Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Mario Kart World to the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond—and talk through what landed, what didn't, and what defined the year. Kevin shares personal highlights and stats from a massive year of completions, including deep dives into classics, long-overdue backlog victories, favorite Nintendo Classics additions, and why 2025 felt like a year of collections, closures, and finally finishing what was started.Harrison brings a wider lens with a full Nintendo Classics 2025 retrospective, unpacking Nintendo's shift from expansion to consolidation, the strategic importance of GameCube on Switch 2, and how slower, deliberate rollouts shaped the service. The episode wraps with end-of-year awards, surprises, disappointments, and a bold prediction board for 2026–2027 covering Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Switch Online, and future hardware. Plus, we reflect on finally getting our hands on the Switch 2—the system this podcast was practically built waiting for. Nintendo Therapy is part of the Sidepanel Network, and don't forget to check out this week's episode of Harrison Talks Pod, with more coming soon.

This week on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, Jemma, Kirk, and Trev break down the latest intel on the upcoming Mario Kart World, delving into aspects such as how the game came into development, how Cow became a character, and how food become part of the gameplay. It's an interesting look at one of the year's biggest games, and it only amplifies our excitement! We also talk recent additions to Switch Online, a new Switch 2 game announcement that confirms a specific feature, plus take a look at the games we're playing and reviewing this week. It's all happening on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, your weekly dose of all things Nintendo!
This week on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, we take a look at several third-party and first-party games getting the Switch 2 treatment, including Hogwarts Legacy. Before that, though, we delve into the latest Switch 2 news, including operating system updates, battery life, and developer feedback. Plus with Killer Instinct Gold on Switch Online, we look at fighting games along with the games we're playing this week.
Nintendo has announced a June 5 launch date and a $449.99 price tag for its latest gaming console, the Switch 2, which will introduce interactive chat and screen share functions to connect gamers. The company revealed a more vibrant display on the Switch 2, a larger screen and several games that will launch with the console. A select group of gamers got their hands on the latest Nintendo Switch console at an event in New York. Central to its updated system is a new “C” button on its Joy-Con controller, which will launch a new “GameChat” feature that requires a subscription to Nintendo's Switch Online service. It allows players to “communicate with friends and family while playing a game,” and lets them share their game screen with others. A built-in microphone will also allow chatting with other gamers. Perhaps the most contemporary function yet for the Switch 2 is the ability to use the Joy-Con controllers like a computer mouse. The developer displayed multiple ways to use the new function, such as angling a club in a golf game. “Be able to see your friends, hear your friends play with them all on the same screen. Being able to use the Joy-Cons as a computer mouse, which is pretty cool. Shoot a basketball, cast spells in Hogwarts Legacy, all sorts of fun new things with that computer mouse," says Ryan Kryska, a reporter for The Associated Press. The new console will be backward compatible—able to play physical and digital Switch games—but users will need to purchase a microSD express memory card for the Switch 2. The presentation revealed that normal microSD cards will not be compatible with the system. However, data from the original Switch can be transferred to the new console. The Switch 2's launch price is significantly higher than the original Switch's $299 price tag. The Trump administration's tariffs have hit the video game console industry at a fragile moment, analysts say. The tariffs impact game hardware because console devices are manufactured and shipped from China and that region at large. This article was provided by The Associated Press.
In today's Daily Fix:Nintendo has been updating their user licensing agreement for Nintendo Switch Online, and not surprisingly, they want to punish people for violating their terms and conditions. If you're caught modding, hacking, reverse engineering, or doing a number of other things to their hardware or software, Nintendo reserves the right to render your Nintendo device "unusable in whole or in part." In other words: they'll brick your Switch or presumably your Switch 2. Oh, and they may listen in on your Switch Online voice chats, too. In other news, famed game designer Hideki Kamiya wants to go back to his hit 2001 action game, Devil May Cry. The game spawned a successful franchise, but Kamiya definitely sees how dated the gameplay is. After he's done rebooting Okami for Capcom, he'd like a shot at Devil May Cry (not counting the reboot DmC, which he was not a part of). And finally, the next installment in the Godzilla x Kong series is in production, with a 2027 release date. Godzilla x Kong: Supernova suggest a space theme, and we might finally get an appearance from SpaceGodzilla.

In today's Daily Fix:As you probably already know, Nintendo will be offering upgraded Switch 2 versions of select Switch 1 games, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom. However, those upgrades aren't free (depending on if you're a Switch Online member or not), and they're not all the same price. The Japanese edition upgrades of Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree will cost $20, instead of the Zelda games' $10. And speaking of the Switch 2, did you get one? Preorders for U.S. customers went live at midnight last night, and it wasn't exactly smooth sailing for many. Let us know in the comments how you were able to snag one if you did. And finally, if you still have money to burn, you can preorder a life-size Eevee and its evolved forms.
Lots happening in the gaming world! Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can now stream selected games they own directly to their consoles without installing them first. Big news for Game Pass subscribers: Grand Theft Auto 5 is returning, and its Enhanced Edition is debuting on PC Game Pass. Elsewhere, Nintendo added more classic SNES games to Switch Online. EA revealed the title for their upcoming Star Wars strategy game – Star Wars: Zero Company – with more details coming soon. FromSoftware showed off another character for the Elden Ring: Nightreign co-op game, and the creators of FTL have a new game coming to the Playdate handheld as part of its second season. There's also continued buzz about a potential Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake, though nothing official from Bethesda yet. On a sadder note, UK retailer GAME is auctioning off items from its closed head office. This week on the GameBurst podcast, we talked about Two Point Museum, Blue Prince, South of Midnight, Atomfall, and the YouTube series Gamechanger and HELLUVA BOSS. And I'll tell ya, damned if this isn't one of the best games in the entire Game Boy library. A hidden gem among hidden gems. DK '94 is more than just a Game Boy version of the OG Donkey Kong. It starts that way, but they add like 100 additional puzzle levels once you get through the traditional 4. You play as Mario and your objective is to retrieve a key and make your way to a locked door without being killed by enemies, falling to your death, or running out of time. The levels get more complicated as you go on, and when you toss in some great DK boss fights, you get as charming of puzzle game as I've ever played. My guest this week is our resident Stpd Mnky, my buddy Daniel. We both played through this one for the first time over the past few days and both agree that it really does stack up against the best the Game Boy has to offer. A must-play as far as we're concerned. And before we tackle DK, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what gaming might look like 10 years from now? How am I feeling about Game Pass these days? And do I have any plans to check out the Outlast movie?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 o the Game Boy's best: Kirby's Dream Land 2, Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, and Final Fantasy Adventure. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
