Today on the show, Steven and Shaun discuss the major announcements from Microsoft following their big event on Thursday, 21st September. Also joining the guys is Robin Christopherson, to mull over the big news of AI Copilot support coming in Windows 11, and to raise concern about the new Outlook app that replaces the existing Mail and Calendar apps. Will the new app be accessible for users who are blind? Also, there's much discussion on how AI will transform accessibility; does this let developers of inaccessible websites off the hook? Robin and the guys discuss. And of course, there's the usual fawning over new hardware, from the new Surface Laptop Go 3 to the big upgraded Surface Laptop Studio 2. Newstalk Technology Correspondent Jess Kelly joined Pat this morning with a review of the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio. Review Details: Windows 11 Intel® Core™ i5-11300H Processor RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 256 GB SSD Quad HD touchscreen / 120 Hz Battery life: Up to 19 hours This is the latest in the Surface range that goes up against the Apple MacBook Pro. At first glance, this device is a laptop: it opens like a laptop and has a conventional keyboard. But if you reach for the top of the screen, grab it at either side and tilt it back, you'll quickly see why it's different. If you pull the screen forward, it tents over the keyboard. There's another set of magnets here to hold it in place in what Microsoft calls 'Stage mode'. This is an ideal position for watching videos, making presentations, or working with an external keyboard. Pull the screen forward again and it folds down against the keyboard, into 'Studio mode'. Here you're working with it as if it was a tablet, with the screen at a slight angle. If you've been using Microsoft's Surface devices, you'll find the Surface Laptop Studio a pleasing upgrade.
The team discusses a subtle change in how Windows 11 behaves on unsupported hardware; questions the security and transparency of the prime minister's communications; and discovers the truth about the new Apple Mac Studio's performance. Our Hot Hardware candidate is the Surface Laptop Studio, Microsoft's new take on the convertible laptop.

As Captain Steven Scott is off wreaking havoc to buffets across the Seven Seas, it's down to Marc Aflalo and Shaun Preece to take the helm of the good ship Double Tap Canada this week. After the rather forgettable Apple event last week, it seems that the DTC team are more than a little impressed with the products Microsoft has unveiled at their Surface event. Top of the wish list is the new Surface Laptop Studio. With a fantastic looking design and powerful tech specifications, could this be the must have laptop of the year? Also, there is an update to the popular Surface Pro range with the Surface Pro 8. Again, Microsoft has delivered on the sleek design and powerful hardware. Is this the laptop replacement the iPad wants to be? Speaking of which, can the new Surface Go stand up against the new iPad Mini 6? There's also the much-anticipated, Android powered, dual screen phone, the Surface Duo 2. With an updated processor and the addition of 3 rear cameras, Marc can't wait to get his hands on one. And staying with ARM powered devices, Microsoft also unveiled the new Surface Pro X. Running Windows 11 for ARM and with the ability to run legacy x86 and x64 software in emulation, will we finally see a Windows ARM device that average consumers will want? If you have an opinion you'd like to share on the show, you can do so by emailing feedback@ami.ca. We'd love to hear from you.
