Seguimos con la segunda parte de la audioserie titulada "Érase una vez el Este", en ese viaje y aventuras y desventuras de nuestros protagonistas a la isla caribeña en la que se encuentra Haití. Como ya sabéis esta serie o audioserie consiste en varios capítulos en los que se mezclan la realidad y la ficción y en los que hablamos de hechos históricos y de sucesos que están de plena actualidad. Y este proyecto de "Érase una vez el Este", es idea, como ya sabéis, de dos grandes amigos de LA BIBLIOTECA DE LA HISTORIA, como son Juan Lamas, malagueño, historiador, escritor y guionista, y Verónica, barcelonesa, actriz y cantante amateur y gran apasionada por la historia. Al principio de la serie recordamos cómo los colonos de la Corona de Castilla supervivientes acabaron abandonando la parte occidental de la isla de Santo Domingo y si el territorio quedó libre para su explotación por los filibusteros, fue precisamente por la dureza del clima, con periódicos huracanes, enormes montañas, selvas intransitables e insalubres, y los temblores de tierra, los más crueles y destructivos terremotos que zarandeaban los edificios como si fueran de juguete. Haití se está muriendo. A finales de 2024 la misión policial y militar keniata fracasa en imponer el orden a la fuerza. Pero hay gente en Haití que no se rinde, que lucha por construir una vida. The book explores how the self-declared president of konpa Sweet Micky (Michel Martelly) rose to the nation's highest office while methodically crafting a political product inherently entangled with his musical product. It offers a deep historical perspective on the characteristics of carnivalesque verbal play and the performative skillset of the artist (Sweet Micky) who dominated carnival for more than decade-including vulgarities and polemics. Yet there has been profound resistance to this brand of politics led by many other high-profile artists, including Matyas and Jòj, Brothers Posse, Boukman Eksperyans, and RAM. These groups have each released popular carnival songs that have contributed to the public's discussions on what civic participation and citizenship in Haiti can and should be. Drawing on more than a decade and a half of ethnographic research, Rebecca Dirksen presents an in-depth consideration of politically and socially engaged music and what these expressions mean for the Haitian population in the face of challenging political and economic circumstances. Supposons qu'après chaque élection le pays plonge dans une crise politique dite post-électorale. Supposons que la machine électorale soit entachée de fraudes et d'irrégularités. A singer, keyboardist and the former president of Haiti, Michel Martelly "Sweet Micky" is known for his Kompa music, a style of Haitian dance music sung predominantly in the Haitian Creole language, but he blended this with other styles. Martelly popularized a "new generation" of Compas with smaller bands relying on synthesizers and electronic instruments.
