Today's headlines: a redacted version of the affidavit that provided evidence for the FBI search was released in the Trump Mar-a-Lago case. The affidavit also revealed that the original 15 boxes of documents that Trump returned to the National Archives contained classified documents casually mixed in with magazines and contain Trump's handwritten notes in the margins. The CIA has admitted to losing dozens of informants, having been captured, killed or compromised, while a Saudi Crown Prince has stated that Jared Kushner was “In his pocket.” A Florida judge has issued her response to Trump's motion to appoint a “special master” to review the FBI's search, while Truth Social is in financial trouble. An appeals court in Arkansas ruled against the state's ban on gender affirming medical care for transgender minors, and a Missouri school district has adopted a policy that will allow parents to opt in to their children receiving paddling as a form of punishment. Finally, extreme flash flooding in Pakistan has led to deaths of over at least a thousand people, and California's Air Resources Board has unanimously passed a rule banning the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles starting in 2035. Read on for today's agenda below prepared by David (thank you very much). - Retired US Diplomat to 5 different nations  David Hunter shares his knowledge, passion, interest, and experience.1) Did  Ukraine Use  Home-Made Drones to Attack Russian Navy High-Command HQ in Crimea?:  Last week, --on Russia's Navy Day, no less ---Ukraine launched a drone that destroyed the Headquarters of Russian Navy Black Sea Fleet  in Sevastopol, Crimea, injuring several.  Could this be considered a strike on Russian 'sovereign territory', since Russia claims it annexed the Crimea into Russia?  What is the significance of this action?2) Was former Russian Deputy Prime Minister,Anatoly Chubais Poisoned by Putin?:  Minister Chubais, who resigned as Moscow's diplomatic special envoy to international organizations this March in protest over Putin's invasion of Ukraine, last weekend suddenly developed numbness in his arms and leg, and is now in an ICU at an Italian hospital.  His residence was just inspected by Italian security teams wearing hazmat suits.   Do they think he was  attacked with poison?  3)  Is Russia Using A Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant as Base to Strike Ukraine Troops?:  The Russians took over the world's largest nuclear power plant, with 6 nuclear reactors at Zaporizhia, Ukraine in March.  Recently, they have been using it as base for launching missile strikes into Ukraine, knowing Ukrainian troops will not strike back because it could release nuclear radiation across Ukraine.  It's using a nuclear plant as a defense shield.  Is that legal?    4) Why did  French President Macron Warmly Embrace Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman?  This last Thursday,  President Macron greeted the Saudi Crown Prince in  a formal red carpet arrival ceremony for dinner  at the  Presidential residence  where Macron shook hands warmly and exchanged hugs with the Crown Prince.  The Crown Prince had ordered the brutal murder of Jamal Kashoggi in Turkey at the Saudi consulate  a few years ago.  So why is President Macron now hugging him?      5)  New Yemen-Saudi Truce Agreement:  Was the Four month Truce in Saudis nine year war in Yemen  just a  trick to win Biden's Approval? :  US Pres. Biden has been pressuring Saudi Arabia to end it's genocidal war in Yemen.  Suddenly, the Saudi Crown Prince decided his puppet Yemen President Hadi should resign, and a truce begins.  That was just before Biden made his Presidential trip to Saudi Arabia.  Is there a connection?6)  Pres. Biden is Offering To Exchange Russian Arms Dealer Victor Bout For Two US Hostages:   Secretary of State Blinken announced publicly an offer is on the table to get two US citizens released from Russian prison: One,   Paul Whelan, was sentenced for 'espionage' after a  Russian  handed him an memory stick with supposed military secrets,  and two,   basketball star Britney Griner, who was arrested for 0.7 grams of hash oil.  Are they  guilty, or just pawns in Putin's human chess game? 7)  US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Visits Taiwan:  The Speaker had announced her plan to visit the Chinese region called Taiwan.   The Chinese Communist government claims it is part of mainland China, so her trip to endorse democracy supporters there is a violation of the One China Policy.   They threaten to take strong action against Taiwan for allowing this visit.  What do you think will happen?

World's Most Dubious Painting: Is Leonardo's Salvator Mundi a Fake?

The Saudi Crown Prince might have bought a fake Leonardo.Salvator Mundi, the most expensive painting in the world, has a fascinating yet murky history: is it worth $450 million? Its initial price tag was 49 British pounds and we are debating whether it is an original Leonardo or one of many similar but less valuable paintings created in the 16th century. If you like our content please become a patron to receive our premium episodes, and all of our public episodes ad-free as well. One of many renaissance era portraits of Christ holding a celestial bauble while making the sign of the cross surfaced in a New Orleans auction house in 2005, only to be sold later for almost half a billion dollars. If its chain of ownership is true, it began in the private collection of Louis XII of France, saw the execution of Charles I, and was centuries later sold from the estate of Sir Francis Cook to Warren and Minnie Kuntz, furniture dealers from New Orleans, for 49 British pounds in 1958. Three dealers from New York bought it on a hunch from the auction of the Kuntz estate for $1175, and turned it over to Diane and Mario Modestini, experts in painting restoration. 1 Diane decided after extensive work on the painting that it was from the hand of Leonardo himself. From there the painting took on a life of its own, and each step along its journey involved the exchange of tens to hundreds of millions of dollars. 2 Sketchy Swiss shipping magnate Yves Bouvier bought it for $83 million, and immediately sold it to Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev for $127 million. When Dmitry found out about Yves' markup (and when his ex wife hit him with a 4.8 billion dollar divorce judgment...), in a rage he put the painting up for auction at Christie's, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman paid $450 million for it. When MBS tried to get the Louvre in Paris to assist in the painting's perception of authenticity by exhibiting it next to the Mona Lisa the French curators refused, so it now reportedly lives on his yacht. 3 The painting propelled British National Gallery curator Luke Syson to a glamorous career at the Met in New York and the Cambridge University museum, whose previous director is now the director of the royal family's private art collection. It also embroiled Yves Bouvier into a string of lawsuits against Rybolovlev spanning major cities around the globe, and according to the French tabloids also brought Bouvier into an arrangement with a group of escorts who were previously involved in a scandal involving French football stars, who solicited them when they were underage. 4 All of this is a deep look into the shady underworld of the high end art market, and how billionaires and their handlers carry rare antiquities on their yachts and jets to hide from banks, governments, ex-wives with divorce settlements, and tax collectors. 1. On this Monday edition of Bernie & Sid in the Morning, the guys recap President Biden's trip to the Middle East that was littered with gaffes and mishaps from the leader of the free world. None of which made more waves than the President's fist bump with the Saudi Crown Prince upon his arrival to Saudi Arabia, which, judging by his snarky responses, the President felt was harped on too much by the media. The reality is, a greeting like the one President Biden gave the Saudi Crown Prince sends a message that he is friendlier than he should be with a leader of a nation that's values clearly do not align with the values we hold so dear here in America. In other news of the day, Sid needs new hearing aids, sharks are running rampant in the waters of Rockaway and Lido beach, LeBron James continues to prove he is indeed a piece of garbage, Pete Buttigieg is using high gas prices to keep pedaling his electric vehicle mantra, Vice President Kamala Harris is mean and stupid, Bernie Sanders just will not go away, Gavin Newsom tries to rally the Democrats as Republicans continue to control the narrative, the World Economic Forum's Klaus Schwab is a villain with evil aspirations, Mayor Eric Adams faces a new battle against the summer stench of New York City, and Curtis Sliwa takes Bernie & Sid's advice in pressing his co-host Anthony Weiner on the developing relationship between his ex-wife Huma Abedin and Hollywood heart-throb Bradley Cooper. Tomorrow, President Biden heads to Saudi Arabia as part of his much-anticipated trip to the Middle East. Countering Iran, resetting Saudi Arabia's relations with Israel, the civil war in Yemen, and, of course, skyrocketing oil prices, are all on the table. Yet Americans across the aisle have been quick to condemn Biden's trip to Saudi Arabia for lending legitimacy to a regime accused of human rights abuses in Yemen and the killing of Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. Can the United States still lead with its democratic values while cooperating with authoritarian regimes?Aaron David Miller,  a senior fellow in the American Statecraft Program and the host of Carnegie Connects, joins Doug this week to unpack Biden's complicated visit to Saudi Arabia and the future of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. A veteran State Department diplomat, Aaron also gives his take on how and if the United States can still lead with its values in the 21st century.Aaron David Miller. (2022, July 7). Her sister Shamsa was also kidnapped in London 22 years ago and nobody has seen her since. The stories in this episode are insane and include Indian special ops teams, yachts, a French American spy, the FBI, helicopters, private jets and hostage videos. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the vice president, prime minister, and minister of defense of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as the ruler of Dubai. Mohammed has about 30 children with several wives, and amazingly, some of these wives managed to run away and divorce him He kidnapped and imprisoned two of his daughters and tried to pressure and intimidate Princess Haya, one of his wives who managed to escape to London, as the sheikh wanted to marry their 12 year old daughter to MBS, the Saudi Crown Prince who is 37. Princess Haya won the custody battle and is happily divorced, but not entirely safe. Princess Latifa's second escape is almost like a James Bond movie and it involves French-American spy Herve Jaubert, capoeira instructor and best friend Tiina Jauhiainen, jet skis, a yacht, the FBI and the MARCOS - Indian special forces. Latifa planned this escape for 7 years but it unfortunately failed. 1, 2, 3 In this episode we also discuss the case of Princess Basmah Bint Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, 57, a businesswoman, rights activist and member of the Saudi royal family, went missing in March 2019 along with her adult daughter Souhoud Al Sharif in Saudi Arabia. It turn out they had been thrown in prison. Quatar does the same thing: Aisha Al Qahtani escaped on a family holiday in Kuwait, where she snuck away to the airport on her own to catch a 3am flight to London. She was not able to flee directly from Doha because she was not 25 years old yet, she was just 22. Qatar remains the only GCC Gulf Cooperation Council country with male guardianship laws for female travel: single women under 25 require a male guardian's consent to travel outside the country. 4 Princess Kasia Gallanio was not as “lucky”, she was found dead in her home in Marbella, Spain, after an ugly divorce and custody battle with the uncle of the Emir of Qatar, Abdelaziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani. 1. The New Arab Voice is back for a new season! On our first episode of season four, we're exploring the recent diplomatic visits of Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS), and looking ahead to the upcoming visit by US President Joe Biden to the Gulf nation. Earlier in June, MbS visited Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Turkey, where a host of new deals were struck and steps were taken to get relations that had previously taken a hit, back on track. Perhaps the most notable visit by the Crown Prince was his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The trip marked an end to the international isolation he had experienced, following the murder of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. Why was it necessary for the Saudi Crown Prince to make the diplomatic regional tour? What does it mean for the kingdom's regional relations? Has the Arab and Islamic world moved past recent nefarious actions attributed to MbS? And are we going to see a new chapter in Saudi-US relations. We speak with Ömer Özkizilcik (@OmerOzkizilcik), a foreign policy and security analyst based in the Turkish capital, Ankara, and with Gerald M. Feierstein, Senior Vice President of the Middle East Institute (@MiddleEastInst) and the former US Ambassador to Yemen, under President Obama. This podcast is written and produced by Hugo Goodridge (@hugogoodridge). The life and exploits of Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, aka MBS.Mohammed bin Salman is the uncrowned king of Saudi Arabia, ruling the Kingdom with an iron fist. He took power by force and coercion from Muhammad bin Nayef and he consolidated that power by kidnapping, detaining and torturing members of the Saudi Royal Family and prominent businessmen like Prince Alwaleed bin Talal in the Ritz Carlton hotel in Riyadh, he even kidnapped the Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri and imprisoned his own mother. He also ordered the murder and dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2017. If you enjoy our content, please become a patron to get our premium exclusive episodes, and our public episodes ad-free. 1 MBS also has an army of flies, tiger squads, gold cars and a lavish lifestyle, he owns the world's most expensive home, the Serene $500M yacht and Leonardo Da Vinci's Salvator Mundi, but the painting he paid $450M for proved to be a fake. MBS has a very dual personality: he's modern but also medieval at the same time. The Saudi state essentially treats women as permanent legal minors. But MBS is also implementing Vision 2030 to modernize Saudi Arabia, he allowed women to drive, he brought back cinemas, he reduced the power of the religious police and clerics, he wants green energy cities, and to move away from dependency on oil. 2 In the context of president Biden's upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia and meeting with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and MBS, “the reset”, with a gallon of oil priced $5, we think it's important to also highlight the relations between US and Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region like Qatar, Yemen, Syria, , Bahrain, Lebanon (United Arab Emirates), as well as the Iran – Saudi Arabia proxy conflict, known as the Middle Eastern Cold War. Saudi Arabia has a young population, 60% of Saudis are under 30 and use Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram. MBS' army of flies – bots and hackers - created by Saud Al Qahtani ensures that no critical posts happen, and his tiger squads – hitmen – target those who dissent like Saad Al Jabri. Women can now drive but Saudi Arabia still imprisons activists like Loujain al Hathloul. Some of the laws governing sex segregation have been relaxed, but Saudi Arabia's guardianship system ensures that men still have ultimate control over most aspects of women's lives. We also discuss the beheadings in Chop Chop Square (Deera or Al-Safaa Square), the executions of those who oppose the regime, the arrest of Ali Nimr during the Arab Spring, the lashing of blogger Raif Badawi, MBS' war in Yemen, and we draw a parallel between Mohammed Bin Salman and Putin. We also discuss the connection between the Wahhabi-Salafi Islam ideology in Saudi Arabia and Daesh (Isis), Al Qaida, and other terrorist groups: the ideology is so similar that the manuals used by Saudi kids in school are the same books used in terrorist indoctrination schools in the caliphate areas. The Trump visit in Saudi Arabia and the glowing orb in the now infamous photo depicting King Salman, Trump and Egypt's president Abdel Fattah al Sisi touching the orb is also a point of discussion. 3 1. Brad and Dan begin by discussing the new Hillsong documentary, "Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed," and the various sexual abuse and infidelity scandals that have rocked the church of the stars. They draw on work by Dr. Leah Payne in order to link Hillsong to a long line of celebrity megachurches that use spectacle, entrepreneurial tactics, and slick marketing to attract young, hot, and rich parishioners. History tells us that eventually scandal will rock the church, due in large part to the authoritarian leadership structures that often characterize this type of ministry. Leah Payne's op-ed: https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/justin-biebers-former-church-hillsong-usa-decline-hypepriests-will-end-rcna23685 They then dig into the news that the Saudi Crown Prince helped funnel 2 billion dollars to Jared Kushner's new firm, despite reservations from pretty much everyone else involved. This leads to a discussion of how propaganda and corruption mark autocratic regimes whose constituents lack trust in their leaders and government. It also provides a helpful rebuttal to Uncle Ron's "whatabout Hunter Biden" line. “The real concern here is that the public has no way of knowing exactly what favors someone like Kushner may have done for the Saudis.” - Walter Shaub The episode finishes with substantive discussion on the Georgia Senate runoff and how it illuminates the failed promises of the Democratic party and the incredible war the GOP has made on the state level in just over a year.
