We're hopping on a motorcycle with a built-in 8-track player and getting zapped back the wild west for this Patreon's choice episode! Timerider (1982) stars Fred Ward as the lovable if slightly clueless motorcross racer, Lyle Swann, who finds himself transported back in time to 1877, where he falls in love with the fearless Claire (Belinda Bauer) and attracts the unwanted attention of ruthless bandit Reese (Peter Coyote). Directed by Harry and the Hendersons helmer William Dear, and co-written and produced with Michael Nesmith of The Monkees (who also provides a rocking 80s score), it's a notable precursor to a much more successful time travel adventure comedy that would emerge just 3 years later – and is alarmingly similar to one of its sequels! But, does it deserve greater recognition or should it be lost to the mists of time? Find out!   Follow us on Tiktok, Facebook, Instagram and maybe what's left of Twitter, if it's still functioning. When we sat down to record episode 207, we just wanted to talk about Fred Ward and how much we love him in everything! Several days after recording, the world learned that he had passed away, and we were left with an episode where we talk at length about him, not knowing what was to come. So, please think of this episode as a memoriam for a great actor who was great in every film he was in, with a wonderful smile and a tendency to outshine anyone he was acting beside. What a legend, and what an incredible body of solid work!We start the show off by talking about the 1982 movie "Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann" from director William Dear. Featuring some fairly dark moments for a PG-rated film, it's a fun little diversion with a strong supporting cast including Peter Coyote as the villain. We follow that up with a masterpiece from 1990 called "Miami Blues" from George Armitage. Costarring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Alec Baldwin, it is a very unique blend of comedy, drama, police procedural and character study. This one should NOT be missed! We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. What are you lookin' at butthead? We're looking at Back to the Future because it's always fun to look back at our favorite films, especially if they're about time travel. Join Jay and Shua on a journey to the past, present, and future to get a taste of nostalgia on Enjoy Stuff!   Time travel stories have been around for quite a while, but Back to the Future made it more popular than ever before. Let's revisit Back to the Future!   News A new Lego Back to the Future Delorean set is available now! One of only two original prototypes for the home Pong console just sold for more than you'd probably pay for it What is the new Pop Tarts flavor? Snickerdoodle! What do you think of the new Top Gun: Maverick trailer? What we're Enjoying Shua and his lovely wife decided to check out the new Sandra Bullock action comedy, ‘The Lost City'. They were pleasantly surprised how much fun it was. Jay has continued his western film viewings with a classic Sergio Leone spaghetti Western, ‘Once Upon a Time in the West'. A classic movies that set up a lot of details in movies that followed it.    Sci-Fi Saturdays/MCU Location Scout Be sure to check out Jay's articles on Retrozap.com. Sci-Fi Saturdays has a great article on Terminator 2: Judgment Day.The latest Marvel series on Disney+ is here! Now go check out some great filming locations for Moon Knight on MCU Location Scout.    Enjoy Movies! Back in the early days of cinema, time travel movies were far and in between. In 1960 we got a cinematic interpretation of HG Wells's classic story, “The Time Machine”. “Planet of the Apes” revealed itself to be a time travel movie in 1968.    The 70's and 80's gave us some more modern day methods of riding a time wave with things like “Time After Time”, “Somewhere in Time”, and “Timerider”   But Time Travel became mainstream and common after a brand new idea in 1985 when Robert Zemeckis was finally able to bring his vision to screen in “Back to the Future”.    We talk about why we enjoy this classic film, from the frenetic pace to the performances to the new rules of time travel, this story seemed to strike all the right notes.   November 22, 1989 brought us the first of two sequels that were filmed back to back. Part II took us to a future that was fun and cheesy, but actually a little accurate. It also took Marty back to the past in 1955 where he had to find a way to save Doc, who was even further back in the past in 1885.   Just a few months later on May 25, 1990 we got the conclusion where we see Hill Valley when it was just getting started in the old west. The finale focused more on Doc than Marty, and it raised the stakes of getting back to 1985.    Jay and Shua remember times they saw it, even a trilogy marathon before the premiere of part III. Make sure you check out Jay's write-ups on Retrozap.com about the whole trilogy! Break out the ice picks because we're diving into "Timeless"!Writer and musician Fred Love joins the show this week to discuss an episode of Star Trek: Voyager that finds Harry Kim at a crossroads. Ensign Kim has helped design a quantum slipstream drive that could shave decades off of Voyager's journey. But when the drive destroys Voyager and her crew, an older and more embittered Harry enacts a plan to sacrifice himself and 15 years of history for a chance to erase his biggest mistake!Harry Kim doesn't get enough credit (or promotions). He was an instrumental part in the success of Starfleet's most amazing mission: crossing our entire galaxy. But Harry Kim would never think to complain, or be ungrateful, or argue that the universe owes him something. He just wants to be the best Starfleet officer he can be, not just for the good of the Federation, but to satisfy the expectations he's lived with all his life. We all love Dick Ebert, but giving him what he wants isn't always the best idea. Big D is a man of strange appetites who suffered through a childhood that left him wishing he could travel time to make friends. And his obsession with "Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann" was bound to end in disaster. Listener Shawn Green generously commissioned this review of the 1982 sci-fi cult classic as a gift to the Shat Crew. Gene was pumped to see Lyle Swann's sweet Yamaha motorcycle in action. Roger was excited to compare yet another movie to "Star Wars," and Dick yearned to be reunited with Belinda Bauer, the subject of his first self-stimulation experience. What followed was a lesson in woman-on-man sexual assault, the creative genius of Mike from The Monkees, a bizarre skinny-dipping scene, some incredibly bad marksmanship, terrified Mexicans, and every kind of causal loop wrapped into 100 minutes of film powered by 30 minutes of actual material. It's weird. It's wild. And it's perfect for Shat The Movies.  SUBSCRIBE & FOLLOW Android: http://shatthemovies.com/android Apple/iTunes: http://shatthemovies.com/itunes Social Media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat Website: http://shatthemovies.com/ HELP SUPPORT THE PODCAST Donate with Paypal: http://shatthemovies.com/paypal Donate With Venmo: https://venmo.com/shatpodcasts Get Podcast Merchandise: http://shatthemovies.com/shop Shop Amazon With Our Affiliate Link: https://www.amazon.com/?tag=shatmovies-20 Sponsor's Listener Survey: http://shatthemovies.com/survey Leave an iTunes Review: http://shatthemovies.com/review Vote for our Next Movies: http://shatthemovies.com/vote Feeds & Social Media: http://shatthemovies.com/subscribe-and-follow Leave a Voicemail: (914) 719-SHAT - (914) 719-7428 Email: hosts@shatthemovies.com Listen to our TV Podcasts: https://shatontv.com/shat-on-podcasts Theme Song - Die Hard by Guyz Nite: https://www.facebook.com/guyznite

This week, we watch Travis' pick: Porco Rosso (1992), from Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle). The plot revolves around an WWI ex-fighter ace, now living as a freelance bounty hunter chasing "air pirates", who lives with an unusual curse which has transformed him to pig. We also go in depth into trends in Japanese anime and video games, and then we attack the movies that we've seen this week, including Timerider, The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires, 13 Assassins and Holy Motors. Either way, Torque's timeless message is clear: motorcycles are, like, cool and stuff! Radical! (IMDb)
