On the show this time, it's a very special throwback episode, featuring a live performance from Oakland's own, R&B singer - Raphael Saadiq. Raphael Saadiq is a multi-instrumentalist, particularly deadly on bass - his first big gig was playing bass for Sheila E, who was opening for … Prince. He formed the multi-platinum group Tony Toni Toné with his brother and cousin. None of them are named Tony. He's produced massive records for people like D'Angelo, TLC, and the Roots. And, he's put out 5 solo records. Most of this show is from his 2008 release 'The Way I See It.' For this performance, the KEXP video team captured Raphael and his stellar live band at the Bumbershoot music festival in Seattle. Recorded 09/06/2009. TMS takes a closer look at what made Tony Toni Toné the timeless R&B group that we came to love — and miss, when they broke-up all too soon.
Cutting through a crowd of '90s new jacks, Oakland's own Raphael Saadiq, Dwayne Wiggins and Timothy Christian Riley seized attention with their evolution of musical romance. TMS takes a closer look at what made Tony Toni Toné the timeless R&B group that we came to love — and miss, when they broke-up all too soon. The Snobs study the ingredients of the secret sauce that gave us The Tonies' most iconic songs — debating whether their classic instrumentation or romantic lyrics are more critical to TTT's place in the house of music. The crew closes out the show with a roundtable to talk up the breakdowns of their favorite groups, and ask: What band had the most tragic break-up of all time? Get ready to laugh, cry, and scream at your podcast app, as Season 3 of The Music Snobs continues with an episode for the ages.

For a few years in the late 80s and year 90s, new jack swing dominated the charts and pop culture. This fusion of RnB, pop and hip-hop was not only commercially successful, but it also produced some of the most iconic records of the time. Today on the show, we discuss three of those albums. […]

Peter and Dre come at this from totally different perspectives. Find out the thing that Dre hates about this (even if the album redeems itself later), and what track Peter thinks should have been saved for a 12" single (because holy moly this thing is long). Maurice Harding (born 1967), better known by his stage name Mopreme Shakur or simply Mopreme, is an American rapper. He is the older step brother of Tupac Shakur, and was a member of Tupac's hip hop groups Thug Life and Outlawz. Thug Life was disassembled when Shakur ran into legal problems, and Mopreme left Outlawz due to a financial disagreement with Death Row Records. Mopreme's first recorded appearance, under the alias Mocedes, was on Tony Toni Toné's hit single "Feels Good" in the year 1990. His first collaboration with his brother was on the single and video "Papaz Song", from the 1993 album Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. under the name 'Wycked'. In 1993 Mopreme and his brother Tupac formed the group Thug Life with friends Big Syke, Macadoshis and Rated R. On September 26, 1994, the group released the only Album Thug Life: Volume 1 which went Gold. Mopreme has been credited as a writer for many significant tracks on this album. He was an original member of both his Thug Life group, as well as a premier member of Outlawz. Mopreme, as well as Big Syke dropped out of the group, but contrary to rumors, was never signed to Death Row Records. In 2002, he was interviewed in the documentary Biggie & Tupac. In early 2007, Mopreme released the mixtape "Assassin & Mopreme Shakur Presents: Black & Brown Pride". Mopreme was featured on the soundtrack for the feature film Intoxicating, starring Kirk Harris, John Savage, and Eric Roberts. In June 2008, Mopreme revealed that he had signed on as a consulting producer for the BET series, American Gangster, titled "Mutulu Shakur and The Republic of New Afrika." The show will feature his incarcerated father, Mutulu Shakur, a proponent of the Republic of New Afrika in the 1960s and '70s and member of the neo-Marxist/black nationalist group Black Liberation Army. Mopreme provided insight, direction, subject matter for interviews, and acted as a liaison between the show and his father.

For the first time, Nineteen Ninety What is going though Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 Pop chart. These were the songs getting the most radio airplay on pop stations in November of 1993. Before we get into the songs, though, Mike reaches into the "Sorting Hat" to pull out a classic TV show, a video game and a movie from 1993.
