  In this first Angler Profile episode for The Lure Fishing Project, I sit down with Cisco Sevilla for a fascinating conversation that covers far more than just fishing. Growing up on the US/Mexico border in Southern California, Cisco learned his craft chasing largemouth bass around some of the most famous bass fisheries in America. Long before Australian bream fishing entered the picture, he was spending his days walking lake edges, throwing plastic worms, learning baitcasters and immersing himself in the bass fishing culture that would eventually shape the angler he is today. Along the way, he introduces me to a bass fishing technique called "stitching"—something I'd never heard of before—which leads to a fascinating discussion about how anglers approached deep-water bass fishing long before today's technology existed. After moving to Australia with little more than a suitcase, an address and a sense of adventure, Cisco slowly found his way into the Australian fishing scene. What began as a search for something to fill the gap left by bass fishing eventually evolved into a passion for bream fishing, kayak tournaments and BFS tackle. From February 21, 2025: Before January, most Americans had probably never heard of the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS), a Treasury Department agency that distributes payments from the federal government. But over the last month, this corner of government has appeared again and again in the headlines, as aides working with Elon Musk's quasi-governmental DOGE initiative successfully gained access to BFS's payment systems. After a flurry of litigation, a temporary restraining order now bars these aides from accessing data—but the crisis is not over. It's still not clear precisely what happened within BFS or what access political actors within the administration might gain in the future, and DOGE continues to access similarly sensitive systems in other agencies, such as the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service.To understand what's happening, Senior Editor Quinta Jurecic spoke with Wendy Edelberg, director of the Hamilton Project and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, and Jacob Leibenluft, who served in the Treasury Department and the Office of Management and Budget under the Biden administration. What if one of the most compelling ideas in mining could be summed up in a single concept: bacteria breaking down rock to release trapped metals?It may sound unconventional, but it's already being applied in real-world operations.BacTech Environmental uses naturally occurring bacteria to process sulphide-rich material, unlocking gold, silver, and other metals that would otherwise remain difficult and costly to recover. These microorganisms act on the rock itself, triggering reactions that separate valuable metals without relying on high heat or chemical-intensive methods.The approach shifts how certain types of material can be viewed, turning what was once uneconomic or overlooked into something potentially viable.This is not theoretical. Bioleaching has been used in commercial plants in Australia, Tasmania, and China, with BacTech involved in building and operating multiple facilities over time.The company is now advancing its flagship project in Tenguel, Ecuador. The fully permitted, construction-ready plant is expected to serve more than 100 small mines, providing a processing solution for material that few others are equipped to handle.WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOWBugs Eat: Bioleaching is a commercially established process, previously deployed in plants across Australia, Tasmania and China. A planned Phase 2 expansion could increase throughput and output materially.Separately, the Zero Tailings process introduces a potential licensing and royalty model tied to large-scale tailings remediation. Early test work suggests that a significant portion of revenue may come from iron and fertilizer outputs, rather than metals alone.Execution remains dependent on financing and initial commercial deployments, but BacTech is now advancing from a technology validation phase toward potential project-level and platform-level scale.

Luis Santana, CEO and Director of GoldQuest Mining Corp. (TSXV: GQC) (OTCQX: GDQMF), joins me for a comprehensive introduction to this Canadian exploration and development company, with strong participation from Dominican investors, focused on advancing its gold, copper, silver, and zinc assets in the Dominican Republic. Baboon aka Chris Volkwine is a foreman for Pivot Customs and one of very few BMX riders in the industry. Pivot is an American-based concrete skatepark construction company. They have done over 3500 projects in 45 countries over the past 20 years. Baboon has been with them for nearly a decade. After wrapping up a skatepark build in Boise, Idaho, Baboon flew into Rochester to join the show. I have known Baboon for a long time and he's a passionate and creative rider. Before January, most Americans had probably never heard of the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS), a Treasury Department agency that distributes payments from the federal government. But over the last month, this corner of government has appeared again and again in the headlines, as aides working with Elon Musk's quasi-governmental DOGE initiative successfully gained access to BFS's payment systems. After a flurry of litigation, a temporary restraining order now bars these aides from accessing data—but the crisis is not over.
