Vivaan, a teenager in India's silicon plateau, has discovered love on his smartphone. Intoxicating, boundary-breaking love. His parents know he is gay, and their support is something Vivaan can count on, but they don't know what exactly their son gets up to in the online world. For his uncle, born thirty years earlier, things were very different. Mambro's life changed forever when he fell for a male classmate at a time, and in a country, where the persecution of gay people was rife under a colonial-era law criminalising homosexuality. And before that was Mambro's uncle Sukumar, a young man hopelessly in love with another young man, but forced by social taboos to keep their relationship a secret at all costs. Sukumar would never live the life he yearned for, but his story would ignite and inspire his nephew and grand-nephew after him.Bold and bracing, intimate and heartbreaking, Deviants examines the histories we inherit and the legacies we leave behind.

I couldn't help myself. I mean, how American can you be? In fact, I do what I can when travelling to absorb culture and not compare to the American lifestyle. But I had to ask "Is the Chinese food in China the same as it is in the states?" The answer....listen to the podcast! I was completely taken by Emilie...She brings warmth to her perspective but at the same time, taking a firm position that is rooted in vast experience and educated conjecture. Emilie Steckenborn makes a living where most of us can only dream—at the intersection of wine, culture, and cutting-edge business in China's ever-evolving market. But don't let her youthful charm and “very strong Chinese accent” (as Paul jokes) fool you. Emilie is a polyglot insider who's spent over a decade breaking barriers in Shanghai, consulting for both airlines and luxury giants like LVMH, and unraveling the intricacies of food, wine, and social connection in the world's most populous country. You will come away from this episode with a front-row seat to Emilie's striking journey from Toronto to Asia's fine wine circles, and you'll learn how Western and Chinese culinary myths feed both perceptions and markets. She'll shed light on why most "Chinese food" in North America bears little resemblance to dishes in Beijing or Guangzhou, how social media platforms like Xiaohongshu change what's in your glass and on your plate, and why the Chinese DTC (direct-to-consumer) model leaves American wine buyers in the dust. You'll also get a candid look at the role of women in China's wine scene, why brand is king (or queen) from Yellowtail to Lafite, how fake wine scams erupt and vanish, and what it really takes to build—and protect—a luxury wine label in one of the world's most challenging markets. Emilie's passion for connection glues it all together, whether she's navigating bottles at 50-table banquets or forging authentic stories through her own "Bottled in China" podcast. Expect to leave with a new appreciation for the complexities of selling, sharing, and savoring wine across cultures—and the secrets behind the conversations that only a great glass can unlock. ✅ Ever wondered how wine, culture, and business blend together in China's booming scene? ✅ Host Paul Kalemkiarian sits down with Emilie Steckenborn—wine industry leader, podcast host, and all-around trailblazer—for a globe-spanning conversation you won't forget. ✅ From myth-busting Chinese cuisine to insider stories on luxury wine brands, social media's impact, and the secret sauce behind wine's magic, Wine Talks uncorks big ideas and bigger stories. ✅ Discover why wine isn't just a drink, but a bridge for connection and innovation—and why the next “aha moment” in your own wine journey might be just one sip away. Listen now to Wine Talks with Paul K! #WineTalks #WinePodcast #EmilieSteckenborn #PaulKalemkiarian #WineBusiness #BottledInChina #WineCulture

This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, I explore how the brain's dopamine system drives us to feel intoxicated by toxic relationships. Inspired by conversations with clients, I discuss the science behind intermittent reinforcement and how tarot cards like The Devil and the Two of Swords reversed perfectly mirror these psychological patterns. Join me as I walk you through the neurobiological and emotional mechanics behind toxic relationship cycles and share insights from the minor arcana that represent these forces. I also talk about the reversed behavioral characteristics of the Knight of Cups, the role of cognitive dissonance, and the pointed, yet nurturing guidance from the Queen of Pentacles for reclaiming stability and self-worth. The Moon, Wheel of Fortune, and Eight of Swords make their role known in this process as well.If you've ever wondered why you find it so hard to walk away from a toxic relationship or want to develop a healthier relationship with yourself, this episode is a must-listen! Imagine stepping into a world where ancient Indian traditions blend seamlessly with modern luxury. That's exactly what you'll find at Delhi's two most prestigious hotels: The Imperial New Delhi and The Leela Palace New Delhi. These aren't just places to rest your head – they're gateways to experiencing India's rich cultural tapestry in all its glory. The Imperial New Delhi, established in 1936, is like walking into a living museum of Indo-European art and culture. Picture yourself wandering through corridors adorned with over 5,500 rare artworks from the 17th and 18th centuries. The hotel spans eight magnificent acres in Janpath, featuring one of India's largest swimming pools surrounded by swaying palm trees. It's an oasis of calm in the heart of bustling Delhi. What makes The Imperial truly special is its dedication to authentic experiences. The spa offers traditional Ayurvedic treatments that tap into India's ancient healing wisdom. The dining options are equally impressive, with The Spice Route restaurant taking you on a culinary journey through Asia. Don't miss the afternoon tea at The Atrium or the unique experience at the Patiala Peg bar, where you can enjoy an exclusive 120ml pour of premium whisky. On the other hand, The Leela Palace New Delhi represents contemporary Indian luxury at its finest. The hotel amazes guests with its rooftop pool overlooking the Delhi skyline and world-class restaurants like Megu for Japanese cuisine and Jamavar for refined Indian dining. Their concierge service is exceptional, arranging private tours in BMWs to explore both Old and New Delhi's treasures. Both hotels excel at making India's sometimes overwhelming nature feel accessible and enjoyable. They employ the ancient Sanskrit philosophy of "Atithi Devo Bhava" (the guest is equivalent to God), ensuring every visitor feels genuinely cared for. The favorable exchange rate means you're getting world-class luxury at surprisingly reasonable prices. The best time to visit is between October and March when Delhi's weather is most pleasant. Whether you're a business traveler, a culture enthusiast, or a luxury seeker, both properties offer comprehensive services including shopping advisories, spa treatments, and expert guides to help you navigate the city's rich heritage.Beyond just accommodation, these hotels serve as cultural bridges, helping visitors understand and appreciate India's complex heritage. They make first-time visitors feel comfortable while offering seasoned travelers new perspectives on Indian culture. Many guests find themselves planning their return visit before their first stay ends – such is the spell these magnificent properties cast on their visitors.Support the showTripCast360 --- It's all about travel, lifestyle and entertainment.Web: TripCast360.com.Twit: https://twitter.com/TripCast360FB: https://www.facebook.com/TripCast360Insta: https://www.instagram.com/tripcast360/
Kelsi and Trey dive deep into Luca Guadagnino's Queer, starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey. This hypnotic, surreal adaptation of William S. Burroughs' unfinished novel explores longing, loneliness, and identity through bold visual storytelling and complex characters. Set in a dreamlike 1950s Mexico City, the film blends stunning performances, immersive design, and a hallucinatory narrative to examine the tension between desire and self-destruction. Also, Drew Starkey is a babe. In popular memory the repeal of US Prohibition in 1933 signaled alcohol's decisive triumph in a decades-long culture war. But as Dr. Lisa Jacobson reveals in Intoxicating Pleasures: The Reinvention of Wine, Beer, and Whiskey after Prohibition (University of California Press, 2024), alcohol's respectability and mass market success were neither sudden nor assured. It took a world war and a battalion of public relations experts and tastemakers to transform wine, beer, and whiskey into emblems of the American good life. Alcohol producers and their allies—a group that included scientists, trade associations, restaurateurs, home economists, cookbook authors, and New Deal planners—powered a publicity machine that linked alcohol to wartime food crusades and new ideas about the place of pleasure in modern American life. In this deeply researched and engagingly written book, Dr. Jacobson shows how the yearnings of ordinary consumers and military personnel shaped alcohol's cultural reinvention and put intoxicating pleasures at the center of broader debates about the rights and obligations of citizens. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. This week on The Whiskey Trip Podcast, Big Chief takes a ride with Ella Parlor, author of the best selling book High Tolerance: The Intoxicating World of Alcohol Marketing. Ella tells listeners of her rise from an 18-year-old pitching energy drinks to becoming a marketing head for two of the largest companies in the alcohol industry. She now has her own successful podcast, consulting agency, and is a best selling author. There's nothing this woman can't do says the Big Man. To represent the brands that Ella worked with Big Chief starts the show with Jameson Irish Whiskey - making people happy since 1780. They then move on to Jefferson's Ocean-Aged at Sea, Voyage 29 Wheated. You can almost taste the salt of the sea and feel the waves. To start the second half the Big Man cracks open a Bulleit 10 Year Frontier Whiskey - don't think this would have made it 10 years on the frontier. To finish the show a bottle of Jonnie Walker Black Label is pulled out. At 12 years old this can be a beautiful blended Scotch Whisky. This ride on The Whiskey Trip shows Big Chief's fascination with marketing. Cheers!

Hello, Darlings! This episode of VPR had so many throwback scenes was truly INTOXICATING! Katie with the orange hair (still love it) and Scheana's proposal, ahhh, it was beautiful! We learn that Scheana has the location of so many people which is as confusing as Katie sleeping with Schwartz's best friend Max..Lala's storyline this season doesn't make sense...a lot like Sandoval's wardrobe, but we carry on and talk about it all!Enjoy! I occasionally encounter someone who asks: Who would follow a celebrity on Instagram? Lady, I WOULD. I do! I follow celebrities who I actually like and celebrities who I find weird and complicated (Gwen Stefani, hi) and celebrities I wrote about or profiled at some point in the last ten years and now know all about their workout routines (hi, Brie Larson). But I didn't follow Kevin Bacon — until a reel of him dancing, back-lit in his barn, to “Footloose” (in celebration of the end of the Actor's Guild Strike) took over my field. Over the weeks to come, I let the posts of a man fundamentally at ease wash over me. Here was Kevin Bacon, playing me an LP from his collection. There was Kevin Bacon, slow-dancing with his wife of many decades (Kyra Sedgwick) in their modest farmhouse kitchen. There he was, with his shaggy graying hair and well-fit jeans, just effortlessly existing, seemingly free of the anxiety of public social media performance.Of course, I've studied stars long enough to know there was something more complicated going on — in the performance of a particular kind of masculinity and progressive semi-agrarian whiteness and heterosexual romance and so much more. So I asked Sarah Mesle, one of my favorite culture analysts (also, crucially, a Gen-Xer like Bacon and a practitioner of “hair studies”) to come on the pod to unpack it all.Join the ranks of paid subscribers and get bonus content, access to the discussion threads, ad-free episodes, and the knowledge that you're supporting an indie pod trying to make its way in the world. If you're already a subscriber-- thank you! On today's podcast, I talk about why the fearful avoidant attachment style loves chaos. The fearful-avoidant attachment type grew up in chaos. As an adult they tend to seek out chaotic situations like an unhealthy or toxic work environment, getting into credit card debt, or dating someone reckless. In the episode, I talk about why they seek out situations like this. I then go into how the fearful-avoidant eventually reacts to chaotic situations with an intense need to control the situation. I have so much empathy for this reaction because it's their way of innocently trying to get their needs met without healthy communication skills. Trust me, I've been here, this is the attachment style I grew up with. At the end of the episode, I share one easy solution for you to start using today to build self-trust that you will eventually expand toward others. It is 100% possible to change your attachment style. The Bald and the Beautiful with Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamo
On the brutal, kill-or-be-killed plains of the Serengeti, power is determined by sheer brute strength. It is measured by the breadth of one's chest, the size of one's claws, and the length of one's incisors. But in the stiflingly hot concrete jungle of Los Angeles, power is determined by the ability to sit down in very comfortable chairs, hold microphones, and talk about life's daily minutiae for approximately 45 to 60 minutes while glorious air conditioning washes over you like a cool salve for all that ails you. In this shockingly fearsome podcast arena, none are more dangerous than the world's most famously bald, gay ghouls: Trixie and Katya!
