The incredible Malcolm Greenidge is best known in the music world as E.D.I. Mean, aka EDIDON, the Hip Hop artist, and entrepreneur famous for being an original member of the Outlawz with the legendary Tupac Shakur. He worked on the 2016 Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me as an Executive Consultant and Music Supervisor.Raised in New York, Greenidge became friends with Tupac Shakur's cousin Katari “Kastro” Cox at High School, and along with Tupac's godbrother Yafeu “Kadafi” Fula formed a rap trio under the names Thoro Headz and Young Thugs, with Greenidge initially rapping under the name Big Malcom.By this time Tupac had become a huge rap star and he let the trio guest appear on his 1993 single Holla If Ya Hear Me. The following year Mutah “Napoleon” Beale joined the trio and they renamed themselves Dramacydal, going on to guest appear on Tupac's next record, his 1995 album Me Against the World. After Tupac's release from prison they all banded together to form the group Outlaw Immortalz, later changed to Outlawz, and it was here that Greenidge became known as E.D.I. Mean. After Tupac was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996, E.D.I. Mean and the rest of the Outlawz moved back to the East Coast. Then following Kadafi's murder, the group returned to California and signed a deal with Death Row Records. The Outlawz released their debut album, Still I Rise, in 1999. Their second and third albums, 2000's Ride Wit Us Or Collide Wit Us, and 2001's Novakane, were released on their own label Outlawz Records. E.D.I. Mean continued to record and produce and collaborate with fellow Hip Hop artists, and also pursued his solo career, releasing his debut album, The Stash Spot, in 2010. His latest solo album, O.G. Part 2: Classics in Session, came out in 2020, and the single One Nation (featuring Xzibit), was released in 2021.E.D.I. Mean regularly connects with his legions of followers and fans through Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, posting pictures and videos about his life around music. He is also available for that personalised shout-out via the Cameo platform, and has a dedicated YouTube channel, E.D.I Mean.
On episode 148, we welcome Andy Moffatt to discuss the evolution of hip hop, Andy's interview with Treach of Naughty by Nature and his close relationship with 2Pac, interviewing Wendy Day and how she facilitated Eminem's deal with Dr. Dre when he was close to quitting making music, interviewing Swifty McVay of D12 and his experiences on the road with the group, the NHS and how chronic underfunding of it by the British Government sparked protests in the UK, the differences between healthcare in the US and UK, branding in the social media age and the ability to move past industry gatekeepers to control your own narrative, and why British citizens became disenchanted with politics in general. Andy is the host of the Heart of an Outlaw show where he interviews entertainers in the hip-hop music industry. He's also a musical journalist writing for HipHop24, having interviewed Treach, Swifty Mcvay,Mopreme Shakur and Angie Thomas. In a time where Death Row was "Untouchable", there was the 2 disc soundtrack to Gang Related the Movie. Death Row sure sounded untouchable with classic 10 tracks from Daz, 2Pac, the Outlawz and Kurupt. Mixed in with some Mack 10, Ice Cube and a rookie Tech Nine, it was a mix that was sure to be a classic. Some tracks are straight up stuck in the 90's but several are timeless hits. A² The Show - Ep 297 Feat. Moh Flow Born in Syria, raised in Saudi Arabia, and based in Dubai, Moh Flow is a singer and rapper who counts ‘90s R&B and Still I Rise; the 1999 album co-billed to 2Pac & Outlawz, among his biggest inspirations. Supported by elder brother and producer/engineer Ayham (aka AY). Moh Flow started rapping in 2005 and within eight years had released his first three mixtapes; Nothing Personal, Peace Love & Music, and Born Ready, in addition to work with the group Run Junction. After the more widely distributed This Is Yo(u), issued in 2016, Moh Flow was matched with Pusha T for an installment of I'm with the Banned, a series of tracks featuring collaborations between artists from the U.S. and rising artists from territories impacted by the Trump administration travel ban. The result, “Options”, was released in 2017. A solo single, “Won One”, followed quickly thereafter. Maurice Harding (born 1967), better known by his stage name Mopreme Shakur or simply Mopreme, is an American rapper. He is the older step brother of Tupac Shakur, and was a member of Tupac's hip hop groups Thug Life and Outlawz. Thug Life was disassembled when Shakur ran into legal problems, and Mopreme left Outlawz due to a financial disagreement with Death Row Records. Mopreme's first recorded appearance, under the alias Mocedes, was on Tony Toni Toné's hit single "Feels Good" in the year 1990. His first collaboration with his brother was on the single and video "Papaz Song", from the 1993 album Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. under the name 'Wycked'. In 1993 Mopreme and his brother Tupac formed the group Thug Life with friends Big Syke, Macadoshis and Rated R. On September 26, 1994, the group released the only Album Thug Life: Volume 1 which went Gold. Mopreme has been credited as a writer for many significant tracks on this album. He was an original member of both his Thug Life group, as well as a premier member of Outlawz. Mopreme, as well as Big Syke dropped out of the group, but contrary to rumors, was never signed to Death Row Records. In 2002, he was interviewed in the documentary Biggie & Tupac. In early 2007, Mopreme released the mixtape "Assassin & Mopreme Shakur Presents: Black & Brown Pride". Mopreme was featured on the soundtrack for the feature film Intoxicating, starring Kirk Harris, John Savage, and Eric Roberts. In June 2008, Mopreme revealed that he had signed on as a consulting producer for the BET series, American Gangster, titled "Mutulu Shakur and The Republic of New Afrika." The show will feature his incarcerated father, Mutulu Shakur, a proponent of the Republic of New Afrika in the 1960s and '70s and member of the neo-Marxist/black nationalist group Black Liberation Army. Mopreme provided insight, direction, subject matter for interviews, and acted as a liaison between the show and his father.
