Het tweede album van A Tribe Called Quest Niet alleen het tweede studio album van de groep, maar ook het tweede album dat wij van de groep bespreken. Vinden wij het beter dan Midnight Marauders? Je hoort het in deze aflevering. Back in the day on the boulevard of Linden Dat is waar het allemaal begon voor dit viertal.
When we say bonified classic albums, this week's album is what we mean. We're talking about the sophomore release from A Tribe Called Quest, titled The Low End Theory. Following their successful debut in 1990, A Tribe stormed back on the scene in 1991 with an LP for the ages, with most production handled by member Q-Tip. The beats were darker, jazzier, and heavier on the bass. Not only were the beats leveled up, the lyrics were as well from rappers Q-Tip and Phife Dawg. Phife's presence was notably stronger on this project as opposed to their debut, showing not only his emergence in the group but as an mc in general. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=LQQJ4 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8mgvT4ULfGo&_r=1
"...just to show how many come to the funeral." - Tee There's some very serious Hip-Hop in this month's selection - from the rugged to the smooth, and from some old and even unreleased material to brand new releases! Of course we pay tribute to Biggie, Phife, and Nate Dogg, with some music that may have passed you by previously. RIP Bo$$...I make a point of not repeating tracks on the podcast, but her classic single "Deeper" is in the mix on episode 37 if you fancy going back nearly twelve years into the archives. Her run may have been short, but the talent was there. Oh yes - the Hieroglyphics gig in Manchester this June still has some tickets available! People's Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm". "Godbodies behind bars, y'all see the barcode." - Pharoahe The month went from the ridiculous to the sublime, but as always, here we are right on time! This episode we pay homage to Phife and Biggie Smalls, and bring out some great recent releases alongside some older tracks that I think will have escaped the notice of many - after all, there's so much music out there! Almost an hour-long mix this time out, let's get to it... Twitter : @airadam13 Twitch : @airadam13
It's always an honor and pleasure to converse with legendary people. On this episode, my guest was DJ Rasta Root. Indeed, DJ Rasta Root has made it, and he credits the love and support of his parents, his college roommates, and some really dope friends. He has experienced some FIRSTS since he was born (Thanks Mom). Finally, a guy who thirsts for learning and achieving his goals has put him in the right places. Hip Hop got his attention, started to quench his thirst, and taught him some things at the same time. Learning to master mixing and blends, as well as paying attention to the crowd, got him in some circles that, to this day, DJ Rasta Root is humbled by how it all came together. However, his meeting Phife from the legendary Hip Hip Group, A Tribe Called Quest, is the one that resonates with him the most. Not only did Roots become his DJ and producer, but, more importantly, his friend. Sharing stories about their culture and love for music allowed these guys to connect for 18 years. As we reflect on losing another great Dave Jolicoeur, aka Trugoy The Dove, aka Plug Two, from De La Soul, it continues to humble DJ Rasta Root as he was alongside those that have made contributions to moving the Hip Hop culture. Thanks to my guest DJ Rasta Root. One of the good ones…FOR REAL! A special thanks for curating Face Off Fridays here in Atlanta. It feels like home to us Hip Hop heads. Until next time, take care, be well, and continue to… #ROCKon
Roy shares big news about the future of the podcast as it relates to his time at “The Daily Show.” Which leads to talking to a guest about burn out. The cause, the symptoms and how can you turn it around. The team chops it up with a HR heavyweight who once fired 100 people in 8 hours. He breaks down the mistakes we make in job interviews and what you should be asking for to put your best foot forward. Plus – tips for negotiating a salary that can help you tactfully and confidently ask for what you want, including a company car. He also breaks down what companies get right (and wrong) about diversifying their work force. An impromptu Rod's Relationship Fair is on deck – and the issues revolve around a pastor who met a woman at work and it looks like she is not interested in being his first lady. How much would your city have to pay you to move to a rural area? The city of Tokyo has started the bidding at $8,000. The newest member of the Roy's Job Fair two-timer club, DJ Rasta Root, producer and former manager of the late Phife Dawg and A Tribe Called Quest, breaks down the making of Phife's posthumous album Forever. In this episode Kris and Devin discuss Check The Rhime, the first single from A Tribe Called Quest's classic The Low End Theory. They get into how the project changed the landscape of sampling, Phife coming into his own, and how a classmate stealing Kris's art in high school might have contributed to him writing Tribe off after their first album. They answer the impossible question: Low End Theory or Midnight Marauders, and we find out their picks for the most ridiculous exaggeration they've heard from a rapper. On this episode of the podcast we've got a hip hop team up from producer John Sarastro and rapper Dell Wells. The track has a golden era feel to it, akin to A Tribe Called Quest or something from the school of Native Tongues. Wells attacks it with a Phife-like cadence that works quite well over Sarastro's funky lighthearted keys and minimalist drums. “Spoils” is just one of a few of their team ups on Sarastro's new project ‘Obsidian Lanes', available now on bandcamp: https://johns1.bandcamp.com/album/obsidian-lanes • follow folks: @johnserastro @dell_wells @studymusicgroup • The track can also be found in Study Music Group's ‘Single Spotlight Playlist' on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3CljEhN • this episode is supported in part by Public & the Public app - Easy mobile investing on iOS and Android: http://share.public.com/studymusicgroup - Get $300 in a stock of your choice FREE with our link & use code ‘studymusicgroup' at signup. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/studymusicgroup/message

"Microphone Check one two what is this". A line and an album that influenced a generation of early hip hop fans in the 90's. From 'Butter' to 'Scenario' this album has it all. Heavily influenced by jazz, funk and early hip hop the group of Q-Tip and Phife Dawg was a mainstay in 90's and early 2000's hip hop until their break up. With the sudden death of Phife in 2015 the appreciation for what the group has heightened. Busta Rhymes made his appearance on 'Scenario' matter when he stole the show and made a name for himself on the rap scene. Walk through one of the greatest albums of all time with us.
So much in the works as Illa J lets me know hes got new music coming and Phife Dawg links with him and Redman for “French Kiss Deux.” which will appear on Phife's long-delayed posthumous album, Forever. We chat about his 10,000 hour journey, his parents' influence on his music and the legacy of his brother, J Dilla. Meshing pop/R&B, with occasional rhymes, Illa J's songs are carried by a summery, almost doo-wop vibe a lot of the time, while still held in the embrace of the music that raised him. So it's important we understand all of these elements so we can appreciate the new direction and sound that will emerge from his studio this year. Tap in. Rob and E. take a look at an undisputed classic and an album that is near and dear to Rob's heart. The Low End Theory was released in 1991, as A Tribe Called Quest attempted to ride the wave created by their debut. Q-Tip's production, particularly his use of jazz samples and live players (including the legendary Ron Carter) along with the dynamic rhyme styles of Tip and Phife made the album instantly adored. But you could read about the album's legacy anywhere. Tune in here to get our stories about the album's impact on our lives.
One of Hip Hop's most iconic groups A Tribe Called Quest. Colby takes you on a ride through their career from humble beginnings to eventual break up and tragic death of Phife. You will hear exclusive interviews with the group and from their A&R.

We have not won any awards, but maybe one day we can do an award tour! Today we keep it rollin' and wrap up our first series on A Tribe Called Quest by discussing their third album, 1993's “Midnight Marauders.” Is it a better album than “The Low End Theory"? Which song would we cover from this album? Why is Blake wearing a giant Dr. Seuss hat!? Listen as we answer these questions and discuss all 8 million of Phife's stories. Episode 7 might sound more like Drink Champs cuz we were highly intoxicated while recording this, but the music, like always, is on point Phife. We don't necessarily have a theme this show, but we do focus on MC's making dope music these days. It's our passing of the torch episode, so-to-speak. We got joints from Your Old Droog, Nick Grant, Apathy, Killer Mike, Action Bronson, Roc Marciano and Milano Constantine to name a few. And it wouldn't feel right dropping this show on March 9th without paying homage to Biggie, so keep it locked as we try to entertain you once again on Take It Personal.

Of course, this is Tribe's final album with Phife, who passed away in March of this year. The intro song comes from Romare's new album, released last week on Ninja Tune. JUJU as a mobile entity has lived within many residences. But few of the venues shared the distinct flavor of "The Inglewood Clubhouse." The title is in quotes because that wasn't the actual name of the venue-I just called it that! This venue was actually a dual level auto shop that sat across the street from a DMV office in the heart of the 'Wood. This set contains some broken-beat, jazzy rhythms and features a wide range of my favorite artists such as Amerie, beats by producers such as J-Dilla, IG Culture, and Platinum Pied Pipers (Triple P), and carries with it poignant reminders of our most recently departed. Phife from A Tribe Called Quest is in this mix as well as Triple P paying homage in a banger that features the genius of the recently passed Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire. The microphone was broken that night which accounts for the low hum on occasion at the end so this is a straight music set. Here's a classic LAST CALL mix recorded live at JUJU in 2005. Enjoy!
It's the end of The Black Box Podcast, y'all.

Happy Birthday, America! We got you a new podcast. On this episode of How Was Your Week?, Michael Rapaport discusses the new Tribe Called Quest documentary he directed-- Beats, Rhymes & Life. Also, the funny and wonderful Larry Murphy (Bob's Burgers, Ugly Americans) stops by to tell us a story about Ernie, the dog featured in this week's episode artwork. Also: Larry's impression of Jon Benjamin, the Phife vs. Q-Tip kerfuffle, the real consequences of making gay marriage legal in NYC, which member of Tribe is most like Keith Richards, how Intervention is like Happy Days, Countess Luann's new music video, and Larry King's dark, twisted, bagel-related intentions. Plus! Michael's dad and his disco radio past! The hypnotic appeal of a show about dress shopping! Larry's misconception of the Weimeraner breed! And the one-word Game of Thrones spoiler that ruined Spoony's day. A patriotic episode!
