On today's show, an anthology where Black women writers share their thoughts on rest, grief and intimacy. Then, Sheila E. talks about her early days as an artist and her upcoming show in East Palo Alto.

Tonight on Triple Feature, we look at three early hip-hop films that helped translate a Bronx-born movement to mainstream America: Krush Groove (1985), Beat Street (1984), and Disorderlies (1987). Krush Groove, directed by Michael Schultz, dramatizes the rise of Def Jam and stars Blair Underwood, Sheila E., Run-DMC, LL Cool J, and the Fat Boys. Beat Street, directed by Stan Lathan and produced by Harry Belafonte, focuses on breakdancing, DJ culture, and graffiti art in the South Bronx, starring Rae Dawn Chong and Guy Davis. Disorderlies, also directed by Schultz and released by Warner Bros., features the Fat Boys alongside Ralph Bellamy in a broad studio comedy. Together, these films capture hip-hop's early crossover moment—music, dance, style, and personality moving from local scene to national platform.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
Les, Kurt, and Jason are back after a few weeks off for only their second episode of 2026! But hey, there's a lot going on including Kurt getting snowed in on the east coast while Les and Jason enjoy summer temps on the west coast. Next, the guys mourn the loss of the incredible Catherine O'Hara (and Uncle Floyd) and Kurt has some Blac Chyna news aka Tokyo Toni news and let's just say… Toni's beefing with someone again. Then the guys are ready to watch a movie that they thought might have a little bit more screen time for Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams, Lifetime's “inspired by true events” movie Nobody Dumps My Daughter. Les is certain that if crossed paths with the mother in this movie (Ana Ortiz from Ugly Betty), that they would have FOUGHT. But really the only person anyone tries to fight in this movie is Sheila E's fortune teller Anna because everybody seems to be very unhappy with their readings. But in a world where a fortune teller operating out of the back of a hair salon seemingly works on Net 60 payment terms, it still comes as a shock that this movie references the very real early 90's movie “Another Pair of Aces” starring Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson and directed by Bill Bixby aka The Incredible Hulk. It is a privilege to welcome actress and singer Kim Yarbrough back to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar brand (and for the first time on the podcast) for the first time in 14 years! Many Reality TV fans first saw Kim Yarbrough audition for The Voice USA: Season Two in Spring 2012. Her powerful interpretation of Chaka Khan's “Tell Me Something Good” turned both founding coaches' chairs, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera, around. After joining Team Adam, Kim wowed the audience with her cover of Mary J. Blige's “No More Drama” and advanced to the Season Two Live Playoffs. During The Voice: Season Two Live Playoffs, she sang Adele's “Rolling in the Deep” but fell into the Bottom Three. After delivering a superb, powerful cover of Jennifer Hudson's “Spotlight,” the Maroon 5 frontman chose to advance Kim's then teammate, Katrina Parker, to the Top 16. After her appearance on the NBC talent competition, Al Roker, Hoda Kotb, and Kathie Lee Gifford interviewed her on Today, and she sang with the Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Over the years, Kim dove deep into the entertainment industry. She guest-starred on several television shows, including 2 Broke Girls, 9-1-1, Hollywood Heights, Hot in Cleveland, Kenan, The Mindy Project, New Girl, Shameless, and The Up-Shaws. Kim also had recurring roles in Cherish the Day (Aunt Natalie), The Haunted Hathaways (Madame Labuef), and the animated series Kid Cosmic (Flo (voice)). In addition, Kim lent her voice to the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. She also shared the stage and screen with entertainment industry legends, including Dennis Quaid, Loretta Devine, Octavia Spencer, Cedric the Entertainer, Stevie Wonder, Sheila E, and the late Betty White and her mentor Della Reese, who produced the stage show Della Reese Presents Kim Yarbrough, which allowed Kim to showcase her talents to the Hollywood Entertainment Community. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Kim Yarbrough spoke about voice acting, tutoring students in the arts, and if she would ever audition for America's Got Talent or wait for a future All-Stars season of The Voice USA. Benny Rietveld — bassist, composer, arranger, musical director for Santana, and former member of Miles Davis' band — joins Walk Talk Listen for a deeply reflective, funny, and generous conversation about music, presence, heritage, and healing. Born in Utrecht and raised in Honolulu, Benny grew up in a multicultural mix of Dutch-Indonesian roots, Hawaiian upbringing, family parties full of guitars, and the irresistible pull of a piano in a department store. At age 12 he was playing in bands; by his 20s he was on stage with Sheila E., Prince, and later Miles Davis, whose “laser beam of attention” taught him what it means to be truly present in music. Today, Benny is the longtime musical director and bassist for Carlos Santana, and continues writing, recording, composing for film, and leading a genre-defying ensemble he jokingly calls “the circus.” In this episode we talk about: Growing up as a Dutch-Indonesian kid in Hawaii's melting pot of cultures How Hey Jude sparked his first steps into music What Miles Davis really taught him: presence, intensity, and honesty Why music remains “medicine” for a dark and distracted world Leaving Miles for Santana — and why Miles wanted people to move on The joy (and lessons) of performing with his son His upcoming projects, including a new album and film score Benny also leaves a powerful question for the next guest Listener Engagement: Discover the songs picked by Benny and other guests on our #walktalklisten here. Where'd You Get Your Funk From (WYGYFF) is an open format video and audio podcast focusing on the here and now, with a broad range of creative and artistic guests sharing fascinating stories, experiences, and perspectives. WYGYFF is a welcoming avenue to newer and independent musical acts as well as established and still active musicians of any genre; authors; filmmakers; actors; artists; collectors and archivists; radio & podcast personalities; journalists; scholars; sound techs; promoters; photographers; and other creative people. A common thread, is the show's standard opening question: Where'd you get your funk from? This is much deeper than it may seem as the answer need not be strictly about funky music, as not everyone has found the funk. It could hit on whatever type of music touches their soul or pleasure centers. Additionally, the question extends beyond music. Paraphrasing George Clinton, funk is whatever it needs to be to get you over the hump. Thus, guests can explain where they got their grit, perseverance, inspiration, talent, creativity, character or other qualities that shaped them into who they are today. This serves as a springboard into candid, in-depth and engrossing conversations. LEGAL NOTICE: All video and audio content protected by copyright.
