Episode 73: Keyon Harrold. Everywhere I turn, I see Keyon Harrold. He's widely regarded as one of the greatest trumpeters alive today, pushing the new jazz generation forward with power and soul. His solo album Foreverland was GRAMMY-nominated this year for Best Alternative Jazz Album, and his resume is stacked — Jay-Z, Common, Erykah Badu, Diana Ross, Mac Miller, Robert Glasper, the Count Basie Orchestra, Terrace Martin — and he played all the trumpet parts in the Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead. Keyon is a dear friend and an incredible human being. He drops so much wisdom in this episode and truly inspired me with his words. I hope you enjoy my conversation with the great Keyon Harrold. ‘Go with Elmo Lovano' is a weekly podcast where Elmo interviews creatives and entrepreneurs in music on HOW they push forward every day, got where they are in their careers, manage their personal lives, and share lessons learned and their most important insights. Episode 57 - Elena Pinderhughes is one of the most sought-after musicians in today's vibrant jazz scene. From touring with legends like Herbie Hancock, Common, and Chief Adjuah to performing the iconic “Mask Off” with Future on the Coachella Main Stage, Elena has already brought the flute to a new level. She's a prominent figure in this wave of brilliant young musicians rising within the new jazz world. The first time I heard her play flute, it was alongside the jazz world's GOAT, Herbie Hancock, and I immediately knew she was different. Her sound didn't just complement something already iconic—she elevated it. Since then, I've seen her perform with Terrace Martin, Lalah Hathaway, Snarky Puppy, and so many more. I wanted to understand how she's achieved so much at such a young age.I'd boil it down to these things: Intention, mind set, dedication, and a strong support system with her brother, Samora Pinderhughes.Elena talks about her journey—from being a teenage jazz star to becoming a first-call collaborator across genres. She shares stories about working with Herbie Hancock, Chief Adjuah, Esperanza Spalding, Robert Glasper, and Josh Groban, diving into the lessons she's learned and how she's crafted her unique sound. We explore the modern jazz scene, how she's making her mark, and how she balances artistry with building a thriving career.Elena Pinderhughes is a trailblazer in both jazz and pop culture, and there's no question—her career is only going up from here.‘Go with Elmo Lovano' is a weekly podcast where Elmo interviews creatives and entrepreneurs in music on HOW they push forward every day, got where they are in their careers, manage their personal lives, and share lessons learned and their most important insights. Please SUBSCRIBE / FOLLOW this podcast to catch new episodes as soon as they drop! Terrace Martin is a rapper, singer, musician and highly sought after producer who's worked with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Travis Scott to Herbie Hancock. Ahead of the Grammys, where he's nominated for best progressive R&B album, Terrace joins Tom to talk about the artists who shaped him over the years, how music led him away from gang culture while growing up in South Central Los Angeles, and his work on one of hip-hop's greatest albums ever: Kendrick Lamar's “To Pimp a Butterfly.” Plus, rising Canadian artist bludnymph tells Tom about the inspiration behind her new single, “The Things I Do For Love” — an unhinged dark-pop song about obsessive love and jealousy.

As broadcast October 20, 2023 with plenty of meteorites and lightshow magic to spare. It's another feelgood Friday and we've melded our Space Madness series into the mix as well, as the very long tail of dust and magic hits earth's atmosphere this weekend from the visit of Haley's Comet almost 40 years ago in 1986. Known as the Orionid Meteor showers, we started to think of it as Orion Smiling down upon us from way out in space, and our playlist reflected that to get your weekend going in the right way.#feelthegravityOrion Smiles Upon Us10/20/2023Tracklist (st:rt)Part 1 (00:00)James Brown – Sunny (Funk Master JB vs Funkmaster JS Hardboiled remix)James Brown – There Was A Time (Kenny Dope edit)War – BalleroSam & Dave – Hold On (I'm Coming) (King Most remix)Clarence Reid – Masterpiece (Kenny Dope edit)Syl Johnson – Different Strokes Part 2 (30:03)Yann Tomita – We Travel The SpacewaysSpace Dukes – Sunshine On VenusSweeps – Space BluesSun Ra – Love In Outer Space (In Session for BBC Jazz on 3) Part 3 (58:29)Quelle Rox – Space ParadeDragonfruit – Space TravelerThe Midnight Hour feat Cee-Lo Green – QuestionsSay She She – In My HeadKendra Morris – Catch The SunRoy Ayers – The Golden RodRoy Ayers – Life Just A Moment Pt 1 & 2 Part 4 (90:22)A Tribe Called Quest – The Space ProgramCortex – La RueThe Supremes – He's My Sunny BoyThe Impressions – We're A WinnerHank Ballard & The Midnight Lighters – From The Love SideFreddie Hubbard – Pensativa (Live at Club La Marchal, NYC 1965)
As broadcast September 21, 2023 with plenty of love still left for the music. Tonight we had lots of amazing new music and albums to talk about in our Sampled funk and soul first hour, most notably Black Thought's "Love Letter," an accapella statement of warmth and continuing affection for hip-hop as the genre that changed the world celebrates its 50th anniversary. Great new joints as well from Jalen Ngonda, Serebii, and a heart-rendering gift from the Bastards of Soul. For parts 3 & 4 Dan Lloyd kicks down the door for the final time in the next couple of weeks with tunes from Indonesia's Grrrl Gang, Brutus, and Stay Inside to highlight the hour.#feelthegravitySampled Funk & SoulPart 1 (00:00)Reyy – Don't Say Nothin'Black Thought – Love LetterJalen Ngonda – That's All I Wanted From YouRick Astley – Never Gonna StopDon Arcadio & Sade – Like A TattooJoel Culpepper feat Tom Misch – FreeAndrew Ashong feat Kaidi Tatham – Low Ceilings (Mala remix) Part 2 (34:48)Bastards of Soul & Keite Young – This LoveOuida – VisionsTerrace Martin & Alex Isley – ParadiseSerebii – InsideSunking – Black Friday (CARRTOONS remix)Neal Francis – Changes Pt 1 & 2 (Live) AMPED with Dan LloydPart 3 (64:50)Scream – DC Special Sha La La Slaughter Beach, Dog – Strange WeatherGrrl Gang – Rude AwakeningEquipment – MinnowTeenage Fanclub – Foreign LandThe National – Laugh Track ft Phoebe Bridgers Part 4 (96:02)Shoreline – NeedlesBrutus – Love Won't Hide the UglinessThe Staves – You Held It AllHotwax – Phone MachineStay Inside – An InvitationChris Shiflett – Overboard
