From the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Seth Pearsoll, VP and Creative Director of the Philadelphia Flower Show, discussed the 2025 edition, Gardens of Tomorrow and Entrance Garden, “Futura Florentia.” He explains Gardens of Tomorrow will showcase the power of plants, sustainability, and innovation. We talked about PHS, founded in 1827, to advance the health and well-being of the Greater Philadelphia region. Started in 1829 the Flower Show showcases diverse and sustainable plant varieties and garden and design concepts across acres of garden displays as well as world-renowned competitions in horticulture and artistic floral arranging, gardening presentations and demonstrations, and special events. As a fundraiser, the Flower Show supports PHS programming that creates healthier living environments, increases access to fresh food and provides jobs and work programs for youth and the formerly incarcerated. PHS works in over 250 neighborhoods in a network of public gardens and landscapes with year-round programming that includes the Tree Tenders, putting trees to cool and beautify neighborhoods, planting public gardens in vacant lots and delivering horticulture programs to schools. Now in its 196th year, The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show is the premiere horticultural event of its kind in the United States and one of the world’s most recognized, drawing exhibitors and visitors from around the globe and pumping over 65 million into the city economy. In addition to the professional exhibitors, local high school and college horticulturists from Lankenau High School Mercer County Community College, The Lakeside School, Temple University and Delaware Valley University will offer future-focused environmental and sustainability displays. For the first time, the Flower Show will feature a student-created floral exhibition by Bucks County Community College’s Floral Design Program. The educational lecture series, Know to Grow, returns with industry experts leading presentations on topics including garden design, vegetable gardening, native plants, container gardening, shade gardening and houseplants. Great Grow Along - the world’s largest virtual garden festival, will present a gardening experts and authors sharing tips, ideas, and inspiration for your home garden. In addition to the Hamilton Court juried plant competition and the vendor marketplace there will be special activities through the week. At Artisan Row guests can work side-by-side with 8 artisans to create fresh floral crowns, Flower Show candles, custom scents, fresh and dried bouquets, terrariums, hand painted vases, botanical jewelry, custom hats, bags and more. Butterflies Live! returns with a butterfly kiosk shop at the end. Families can enjoy the free Kids Cocoon, a kid-focused play space in partnership with The Franklin Institute where they can plant seedlings, enjoy story time, and participate in activities 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, excluding Sunday, March 9. Kids Cocoon will feature a Flower Show-themed version of TFI's Creation Station, where children can create floral-inspired masterpieces using LEGO® bricks. At Bloom Bar and pop-up Bloom Bar carts you can purchase pre-assembled, fresh floral crowns in the heart of the Show floor. At Family Frolic Sunday, March 2 there will be hands-on activities and entertainment for families with programming and activities in partnership with museums, nonprofits, and universities; Blossom and Breathe on Friday, March 7 with wellness vendors and yoga in a botanical bazaar, and the popular Flowers After Hours after-hours dance party Saturday, March 8! They invite you to dress in your boldest, most eccentric best, and enjoy alien encounter photo ops, galaxy-inspired cocktails, and a space fashion show. Plus, music will be curated by SNACKTIME, the live band for “They Call it Late Night” with Jason Kelce on ESPN, and DJs: Muhammad Carr, Lady B and Touchtone, and Val Fleury. Members can visit the show on Friday, February 29 before the annual Gala, and PHS will again offer Early Morning Tours and Early Morning Photography Tours. As longtime listeners of Beautiful/Anonymous know, one of the most beloved members of our community is Heidi, AKA: “Love Is Everywhere”. This call is a little different from our usual follow-ups. In this case, Heidi has a specific story she wants to share, and it just didn't feel right to hide it behind the paywall. So here's the deal: all of our listeners have access to this difficult–but so important to share–story from Heidi's past. It's a tough conversation, but, as Heidi so rightly points out in the call, "the more these kinds of stories are shared . . . that will make it so there are less stories like this to be shared." For our Touch Tone listeners, you'll still get our standard follow-up, where Heidi takes a turn at our 5 Random Questions generator. You can also read Heidi's story on her Substack. Join Johnny Rabbit as he takes us on a nostalgic journey through the history of telephone exchanges in St. Louis, from the 1920s to the early 1960s. Johnny discusses how phone numbers once began with area-specific prefixes or exchanges, such as LA for Laclede and PR for Prospect, allowing people to pinpoint neighborhoods or towns just by the prefix. Learn about the evolution of dialing, the introduction of Touch-Tone phones, and the colorful range of telephones from the past. Johnny also reminisces about the days of coin-operated public phones, the cost of long-distance calls, and the transition from unified phone books to the separate white and yellow pages.

From NE5V This is for anyone interested in adding DTMF Command functions to the ClearNode. I was parusing the rpt.conf file in my ClearNode and found the following line at the end of the [functions stanza. #includeifexitsts custom/my_dtmf_commands.conf This line allows a user to add DTMF functions that won't go away when the ClearNode software is updated, or when a user changes which digital mode to use. Here's how it works. The statement assumes that there is a directory of the /etc/asterisk directory called "custom" and that in this directory is a file called "my_dtmf_commands_conf". Be sure to make all the letters in the directory and filename lower case, since that is the case specified in the #includeifexists statement. One way to create the directory is through WINSCP. Go to the asterisk directory and once in that directory press F7 then enter "custom" as the directory name. Don't use the "". If you choose to do this from the shell prompt, which is option 9 on the menu when you ssh to the node, do the following. Go to the Asterisk directory by using cd /etc/asterisk Once there type mkdir custom This creates the custom directory. Then use whatever method you want to create the file. I did it in Winscp by going to the custom directory, pressed shift+F4, and gave it the file name my_dtmf_commands Another way is to go to the shell prompt after ssh into the node. This is option 9 on the menu. Then type nano /etc/asterisk/custom/my_dtmf_commands The entries in my file look like this. D6=cop,32 ;Touchtone test. Enter digits with last as # d7=cop,34 ; Telemetry Off d8=cop,33 ; Telemetry on d9=cop,35 ; Telemetry limited The information after the ; explain what the commands do. Save your work. The next step is to make the files executible. Go to the custom directory. Then type chmod + x my_dtmf_commands.conf Then go to option 11 in the node menu which is the asterisk client. type rpt reload You then can execute the commands in the custom file. For example *D7 in my example turns off telemetry. This apparently works only for adding functions, not overwriting them. I've been testing this, if I want to overwrite a function, the #includeifexists needs to be at the top of the stanza. I tried this in the telemetry stanza, because I wanted to overwrite the default courtesy tones. I put this at the top of the telemetry stanza #includeifexists custom/my_telemetry.conf I put the courtesy tones in the file using the methods above, and when I saved settings in the app, the new tones stayed. This isn't Clearnode specific, but I thought it would be of interest, particularly to Clearnode users. visit www.blindhams.com

Oh, hello! On this week's episode of How Was Your Week, Choire Sicha is here! He is one of the editors of The Awl and the author of an upcoming book you must read, plus a very good-looking person with stunning eyes who also happens to loves cats. Choire joins Julie to talk about his life story and how he ended up a gay married person after working and living in different places and doing different things and generally living an interesting life! Then, comedian, actor, writer and DEAR FRIEND Curtis Gwinn joins Julie to talk extensively about Carl Jung, ventriloquists, horror movies, and what lessons we can learn from The Purple Rose of Cairo. It is a good talk that contains many tributaries that flow into the darker corners. Also, Julie has a triumphant proclamation to make about Jimmy Jazz, Marilu Henner tweets the ultimate Marilu Henner thing on Mothers' Day, Michael Caine does or does not get trapped in an attic, Dark Shadows is appreciated as a modern-day Touchtone joint, and what not to say to a redhead when she tries something on at your store. Plus: How not to be mean on the internet! Why to be concerned when Julie resorts to bed for a turkey burger and Kubrick movie marathon! Anne Heche's fillers are explored! And what would happen if Johnny Depp and Daniel Tosh played strip poker together. A meeting of the minds and souls. And a fine show to boot! ***Please note: In this week's show, Julie mis-attributes Shipoopi as being from The Pajama Game. She is incorrect and regrets saying so: it is from The Music Man.
