Chinalaunched a long-range missile over sovereign territories toward Fiji, an aggressive move coinciding with major NATOand RIMPAC events. The test signals China's intent to expand its nuclear triad despite its currently "noisy" submarine technology. SCHEDULE JBS, 7-7-20261862 NYC  Liz Peek. Revamping Federal Reserve Communications: No More Dot Plots? Liz Peek discusses new FedChair Kevin Warsh's shift away from "forward guidance" and "dot plots". She argues this pragmatic approach requires investors to analyze raw economic data rather than Fed algorithms. Despite past recession fears, the economy remains stable with low unemployment at 4.2%. (1) Liz Peek. The Democratic Party's 2028 Internal Conflict: Socialists vs. Establishment. Peek analyzes the rising tension between the Democratic establishment and radical socialists like New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. She suggests Governor Newsom faces credibility issues due to "flip-flops," while younger socialist candidates threaten to alienate traditional Jewish and Black voters, potentially wrecking the party's 2028 prospects. (2) Captain James Fanell. China's Nuclear Triad Expansion: Submerged Ballistic Missile Test. Captain Fanellexplains the significance of China's recent submerged ballistic missile launch from a Jin-class submarine. Reaching over 10,000 kilometers, this JL-3 missile flew over U.S. territories like Guam. This rare test signals China's rapid development of a nuclear triad intended to achieve strategic deterrence against the U.S. (3) Captain James Fanell. Countering China's First Strike Strategy in the Pacific. Fanell argues China's SLBM test challenges their "no first use" policy, effectively demonstrating a first-strike capability. He recommends the U.S. bolster its naval force structure in the Western Pacific and utilize B-2 bomber flights to signal resolve against Chinese efforts to drive America out of the region. (4) Mary Kissel. NATO's New Vigor and the European Defense Dilemma. Mary Kissel discusses NATO'srenewed urgency following Russian aggression in Ukraine. While front-line nations like Poland exceed spending targets, many Europeans have historically relied on the U.S. defense umbrella to fund social welfare states. She warns that Putin continues to test NATO's unity at the margins. (5) Mary Kissel. Confronting Beijing's Provocations and the Cost of Appeasement. Kissel critiques the U.S.government for pursuing trade deals while China conducts intimidating missile tests in the Pacific. She urges the administration to recognize the severity of the threat, strengthen regional alliances, and impose actual consequences for Beijing's increasingly hostile behavior to avoid a greater future threat. (6) Joseph Sternberg. Federal Reserve Introspection and Britain's Political Turmoil. Sternberg examines Governor Waller's speech regarding how "forward guidance" may have blinded the Fed to 2021 inflation. Turning to the UK, he notes Prime Minister Keir Starmer's plummeting popularity and argues that British politics is trapped in personality-driven cycles without addressing fundamental policy or welfare state problems. (7) Joseph Sternberg. Cultural Divides: American Earnestness vs. European Cynicism. During the World Cup, Sternberg observes that European visitors are struck by American earnestness regarding God, patriotism, and politics. He notes that while shared history exists, deep cultural divisions persist; Europeans often view patriotism as destructive, whereas Americans continue to view it as a healthy instinct. (8) Gregory Copley. Xi Jinping's Internal Struggles and the Vulnerable 'Boomer' Fleet. Copley views China'smissile test as a move by Xi Jinping to look credible amidst domestic instability and loss of control over the PLA. He notes that while the Jin-class submarines are "noisy" and vulnerable, the test sends a pointed message to the West and Pacific nations. (9) Gregory Copley. Russian Bluster and NATO's Disorganized Response. Copley dismisses Russian threats against Poland and Finland as "agit prop" designed to save face during the NATO summit. He argues Russia is incapable of a major war with NATO and that Putin remains secure despite domestic pressures, petrol rationing, and the West's disorganized attempts to unify. (10) Gregory Copley. Iran's Leadership Vacuum and the Illusion of Nuclear Success. Copley reports a lack of cohesive leadership in Iran, with Ayatollah Khamenei potentially incapacitated. He asserts the West has failed on all metrics, including regime change and securing the Strait of Hormuz. Iran views its nuclear program primarily as a bargaining chip for sovereignty rather than victory. (11) Gregory Copley. The Prodigal Son: Prince Harry's Mounting Legal and Financial Woes. Copley discusses Prince Harry's precarious position after losing a major lawsuit, leaving him with a 50 million pound debt. King Charles III prioritizes his duty to the monarchy over family ties as concerns grow regarding Harry's management of the Invictus Games and his wife's public criticisms of the family. (12) Thaddeus McCotter. Democratic Party Discipline: Managing Candidate Crises and Ideological Rifts.McCotter explores how the Democratic establishment "blew up" problematic candidates like Eric Swalwell to install figures like Xavier Becerra. He describes an ongoing "civil war" between the establishment and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), with leadership working to clear out radicals to appeal to mainstream voters. (13) Thaddeus McCotter. The Republican Civil War: MAGA Populism vs. the Establishment. McCotter analyzes the Republican Party's struggle with the MAGA movement, which he defines as populist rather than traditionally Republican. He warns that without a clear programmatic platform beyond Donald Trump, the movement may not survive his leadership, potentially leading to conflict with the revanchist Republican establishment. (14) Grant Newsham. The Shadow of Appeasement: Europe's Unwillingness to Defend Itself. Newsham compares current European hesitation to confront Russia with 1930s appeasement. He argues that many European nations have developed a "pathologic dependence" on the U.S. to fund their social welfare states. He warns that without U.S. backing, Europe lacks the unity to stop Russian aggression. (15) Henry Sokolski. Iran's Nuclear Defiance and the Futility of Unsupervised Deals. Sokolski highlights the disconnect between U.S. and Iranian positions following a recent memorandum of understanding. Iran refuses inspections of bombed enrichment sites, while the U.S. insists on them. He warns that preventing Iran from building a bomb remains an uphill battle without clearer public goals. Gaius and Germanicus examine the escalating tensions between Poland and Russia. They analyze reports regarding Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's warnings of critical months ahead and potential Russian provocations. Germanicuscontends that NATO is the primary provocateur, asserting that European leaders have become complacent and dependent on the Ukraine war to suppress domestic crises, such as the migration issue. They discuss the historical enmity between the two nations, noting Poland's potential interest in territory in Western Ukraine. While Gaius highlights reports of Russian vulnerability, such as fuel rationing and states of emergency in Crimea, Germanicus remains skeptical of Western media narratives. He views the "hysteria" in Western headlines as an indication of the West's inability to accept an impending defeat. Germanicus argues that Putin is a cautious leader who will likely wait for a culminating phase rather than falling for tit-for-tat provocations. The discussion concludes with the observation that both sides are preparing for a potential expansion of the war, perhaps involving Belarus, as the conflict enters a chaotic and unpredictable final stage. This week was one full of developments for the Eastern Mediterranean. Top of the list was the announcement in Houston of a major milestone for the region, as the US, Greece, Cyprus and Israel inaugurated the East Med Energy Center, putting into action a major provision of the landmark 2019 EastMed Act, a key priority of HALC. Earlier in the week the East Med Gas Forum was also in the headlines, as ministers and senior representatives from Greece, Cyprus, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Italy, the US, and the World Bank sat at the same table in DC. The meeting highlighted both Washington's and Greece's increasingly important role in shaping the region's energy agenda. As we saw East Med countries expand their cooperation, Turkey's increasingly confrontational posture in the region was on full display this week as its fighter jets interfered with a military aircraft carrying European defense officials to an EU meeting in Cyprus. Turning our attention to Greece, we're shifting gears to look at an ongoing challenge facing the country, which is protecting its natural landscapes. With reports of small wildfires already popping up in local media, and given that last week was World Environment Day, we look into how groups like Ecogenia and the California Conservation Corps are partnering up in the field in this summer to protect Greece's most valuable natural landscapes. Lena Argiri, Sinan Ciddi, Lia Papazoglou, and Annie Schroeder join Thanos Davelis this week as we look into the significance of the new East Med Energy Center, Turkey's harassment of aircraft carrying European defense ministers to Cyprus, and the ongoing efforts to mobilize Greece's youth around climate action. Stay tuned as we're back with another “I am HALC” segment, this time turning our attention to Chicago's Eleni Apostolopoulos Katsoulis, an attorney working at the intersection of healthcare and law that's now also tackling the legal dimensions of AI. Recognized as a 40 under 40 attorney to watch in Illinois, Eleni is also a former president of the Hellenic Bar Association, a founding member of the Hellenic Legal Assistance Services pro bono clinic, a member of HALC's first flagship Leadership 2030 class, and a dedicated mom. A little more info on our guests: Lena Argiri is the Washington, DC Correspondent for Greek Public Broadcasting (ERT) and Kathimerini. Sinan Ciddi is a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and director of its Turkey program. Lia Papazoglou is the co-founder of Ecogenia. Annie Schroeder is a Project Coordinator for the California Conservation Corps. You can support The Greek Current by joining HALC as a member here.

John Yoo's incoming plane was delayed—again—but it gave us the prompt we needed to have in John place R.J. Pestritto, the Dean of graduate education at Hillsdale College, but above all one of the most treachant critics of the Progressive revolution of the early 20th century, and the insidious administrative state it birthed. Colonel Jack Jacobs provides a strategic assessment of the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran, highlighting the disconnect between ongoing military provocations and the underlying desire for a diplomatic exit. He suggests that while decentralized command structures may lead to unauthorized skirmishes on the ground, both nations are incentivized to reach a ceasefire due to political and economic exhaustion. Jacobs argues that the primary American objectives have shifted, noting that while the neutralization of Iran's nuclear capabilities is likely achievable through continued surveillance, the goal of forced regime change remains unrealistic. Fed steady in face of local and global provocations

Economy Watch

Kia ora. Welcome to Thursday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand. I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz. Today we lead with news deeper turmoil in the Middle East has overshadowed the US Fed meeting. But first up, in an 11-1 vote, the US Federal Reserve decided to hold its policy rate unchanged at 3.25% at todays meeting. Only Trump's insert, Stephen Miran, voted against the consensus. The immediate response from financial markets wasn't large, probably because this is the expected result. While their dot plot signals a rate cut this year, markets do not have that priced in. In fact the futures market is looking for rises. Elsewhere in the US, mortgage applications sank last week by almost -11% as rising mortgage rates killed off demand. Almost off of this pullback was for refi demand American producer prices surged +0.7% in February from January to be +3.4% higher than year-ago levels. That is the biggest rise in more than a year. If you just isolate producer prices to 'goods' only, the jump was noticeably more, up +1.1% just in one month. That makes the January factory order data look rather weak. They were up just +0.1% from a month earlier, up +3.5% from a year ago. So almost all of this is accounted for by inflation, and the recent order level growth is far less than recent inflation. Financial markets noticed and sagged. US crude stocks rose and by more than expected last week, but this had little impact on the rising oil price. But US domestic petrol inventories dived last week in a major way. Making this notable was it was the fifth consecutive weekly drop. The Bank of Canada left its overnight target rate steady at 2.25% in its March meeting, as expected. Staying in Canada, they reported that their 41.5 mln population declined by more than -100,000 in 2025 mainly due to an exodus of foreign workers.. Meanwhile the Japanese Reuters Tankan Index rose to 18 points in March from 13 points in February and its highest (non-pandemic) level since 2019. In South Korea we should note that a 66,000 member union has voted to strike at a major Samsung electronics facility in May. If it happens, it will be yet another supply chain disruption for a key global electronics supplier. This is a company union, and only the second time in its history it has voted to strike, so there must be deep dissatisfaction involved. In Malaysia, they became the first country to confirm that their special trade pact with the US is now 'void' following the US Supreme Court's tariff ruling. It will likely trigger a cascade of other countries declaring the same. In China, new official data out shows that cement production surged in February, back to 2023 levels, and perhaps a solid indication that construction activity is picking up, after a long two-year low period. In Australia, the six-month annualised growth rate in the Westpac–Melbourne Institute Leading Index, which indicates the likely pace of economic activity relative to trend three to nine months into the future, held at +0.08% in February, unchanged from January but down from more firmly positive reads seen late last year. Of course, this metric covers periods before the US-Iran war. Meanwhile, Far North Queensland is being warned to brace for Tropical Cyclone Narelle, forecast to make landfall as a category four or five system on Friday morning, with destructive wind gusts of up to 250 kph !! Generally, we should probably note that the USD's steady devaluation against the Chinese yuan seems to have ended, with the rate holding steady for the past few weeks. The UST 10yr yield is now just on 4.22%, up +2 bps from yesterday at this time, little-changed after the Fed decision. The price of gold will start today down -US$121 from yesterday at US$4880/oz. Silver is down -US$2.50 at US$77/oz. American oil prices are up almost +US$3, at just under US$98/bbl, while the international Brent price is up +US$6, now just over US$108/bbl. The Straits of Hormuz remain no-go areas for most with the situation still extremely unstable. The ships transiting are those approved by Iran, which holds all the cards at present. The Israeli attack on Iranian gas fields has delivered a large spike in natural gas prices. The Kiwi dollar has dipped today, down -20 bps against the USD from yesterday, now just on 58.4 USc. Against the Aussie we are unchanged at 82.5 AUc. We are little-changed against the yen. Against the euro we are down -10 bps at 50.7 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today down -20 bps at just over 62. The bitcoin price starts today at US$71,293 and down -3.9% from this time yesterday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been moderate at just on +/- 2.8%. You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz. Kia ora. I'm David Chaston and we'll do this again tomorrow.

War-War: NATO Provocations and American Detachment from Europe — Gaius & Germanicus — Gaius reports on escalating aggressive rhetoric from NATO and fortification initiatives throughout the Baltic region, questioning whether these military deployments constitute "false flag" provocations deliberately designed to entrap the United Statesin direct warfare with Russia. Germanicus contends that European elites are systematically manufacturing an external Russian crisis to maintain institutional power and governmental legitimacy against ascending populist movements and deep-seated fear of abandonment by the new American "Emperor." Germanicus draws a historical parallel to the permanent schism of the Roman Empire in 395 AD, characterizing the United States as the prosperous, militarily secure Eastern Empire (Byzantine Constantinople) and contemporary Europe as the economically weak, militarily collapsing Western Empire facing irreversible institutional decay. Germanicus argues that just as Constantinople eventually ceased attempting to save the disintegrating Western Empire from Vandal invasions and territorial collapse, the United States is strategically detaching from European geopolitical failures, recognizing that continued military commitment represents strategic wastage of American resources without corresponding security benefit. Germanicus emphasizes that European strategic incompetence and political cowardice render European salvation impossible through Americanmilitary intervention, making strategic withdrawal the rational American policy response. 1944 GOLD BEACH H-HOUR

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUUo0vmNzmI Wilfredo Hernandez of the Venezuelan Embassy in the UK denounces the escalation of the US towards War. Trump has placed a bounty of 50 million dollars on the head of President Nicholas Maduro - democratically elected President of Venezuela, as if her was some cheap gangster in a Hollywood movie. Trump has classed President Comrade Nicholas Maduro and the Venezuelan Bolivarian government of the PSUV to be "Narco-trafficers" and a "Narco-state" - in defiance of all evidence and logic. The US imperialists have attacked and murdered 80 Venezuelans, sailing small vessels within Venezuelan sovereign waters, on the flimsy pretext that they were 'drug traffickers' - without providing a shred of evidence. Venezuela according to global governance bodies does not produce or transport cocaine or other drugs. It is a global anti-narcotic haven of peace and tranquility, thanks to its socialist and popular government since the Bolivarian revolution began. Yet USA has assembled an armada off the coast of Venezuela. It is clear that Trump and the US, here as elsewhere, seek domination and not democracy. They want to get their hands on Venezuela's huge oil, gold and other mineral resources, and once again have free reign to exploit the labour power of her people. But the Venezuelan people - unbowed in the face of this military provocation, which comes on top of decade of escalating sanctions and an all-out economic war that has totally failed to destabilise and subvert their sovereign will - remain unbowed and have mobilised both the regular army and the people to defend their nation. There has been an unprecedented response among the masses of the Venezuelan people, who have enrolled in the people's militia in their tens and hundreds of thousands. Viva Venezuela! Viva Chavez! A few housekeeping items: This episode is the first main episode that is available to our subscribers before anyone else.  We have merch! Just a couple items right now, more to come, hopefully. You can see the Dashery store here. Alyssa's wearing the shirt on the show today! It looks like a movie ticket! Because movies! BUY ONE TODAY. OK, the episode itself. We discussed AMC finally granting Netflix some space in their multiplexes. Is this glasnost between the world's biggest streamer and the world's biggest theater chain? What comes after? Then we discussed After the Hunt, Luca Guadagnino's post-MeToo cinematic provocation … albeit one with a purpose. This movie's getting hammered by critics but … not by us. Probably because it's a good conversation starter and we love having conversations!  If you enjoyed this episode, please share it with a friend! Evangelizing the show is the best way to help it grow and make sure it continues!

Today, Les, Jamil, Andy, and Jess unpack a dangerous new escalation on NATO's flank: three Russian MiG-31s flew through Estonian airspace for several minutes on Friday, a violation Tallinn says it can prove even as Moscow denies the incident and accuses Estonia of provocation. NATO jets — including Italian F-35s and fighters from Sweden and Finland — scrambled in response. The incursion follows recent Russian drone overflights of Poland and Romania and comes amid an uptick in attacks inside Ukraine, raising alarms across Europe about Moscow's willingness to push boundaries. How should the U.S. and NATO respond to airspace violations that creep toward Article 5 thresholds? Is the right answer a sharper military posture — more weapons and patrols for Ukraine and Baltic defenses — or tighter economic and diplomatic pressure? And with allies in Europe calling for stronger action, will Washington elevate its response or risk encouraging further Russian probing?Check out these sources which informed our experts' opinions: https://apnews.com/article/british-intelligence-mi6-russia-war-443df0c37ff2254fcc33d5425e3beaa6 @lestermunson@NotTVJessJones@jamil_n_jaffer@andykeiserLike what we're doing here?
