Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell had extensive ties to France, yet the full scope of what happened there remains far less explored than their activities in New York, Florida or the U.S. Virgin Islands. Epstein owned a lavish apartment on Avenue Foch in Paris that functioned as both a social hub and, according to survivor accounts and later investigative findings, another location where young women and girls were brought into his orbit. His French connections ran deep through the modeling world, particularly through Jean-Luc Brunel, the powerful agent accused of using modeling agencies to gain access to vulnerable young women and minors. French investigators later gathered allegations that Epstein committed rape and sexual assault in Paris, while other accounts placed Epstein, Maxwell and Brunel in Saint-Tropez and other parts of France where similar patterns of recruitment and exploitation were alleged. French authorities searched Epstein's Paris residence after his 2019 arrest, but his death, Brunel's later death in custody, statutes of limitation and the international nature of the network left major portions of the French story unresolved.That unresolved history is now getting another look. In February 2026, Paris prosecutors opened fresh investigations into possible human trafficking and financial crimes after millions of newly released Epstein records produced new leads, and they also began a complete reanalysis of the earlier Brunel investigation. Prosecutors have acknowledged that the material could point to sexual offenses, trafficking, money laundering, tax fraud and other misconduct committed on French soil or involving French nationals, while urging additional survivors to come forward. The French dimension matters because Epstein's activities there appear to have intersected with fashion agencies, wealthy social circles, politicians, diplomats and international travel in ways that have never been fully mapped publicly. 很多人一想到法国旅游，首先想到的就是巴黎、尼斯、圣特罗佩；但对于很多法国人来说，八月的巴黎反而是最想逃离的地方。其实美国也有类似的情况。不过美国真的很大，每个人喜欢的度假方式都很不一样。这一期，我们就来聊聊：（法国人和美国人夏天真正喜欢去哪里度假？）01. The Places Tourists Love 游客爱去的地方，当地人却未必去When people think about France, they usually imagine Paris (巴黎), Nice (尼斯), or Saint-Tropez (圣特罗佩).这些地方当然漂亮，而且非常受欢迎（They are definitely beautiful and very popular places）!但到了夏天，它们也会变得incredibly crowded (非常拥挤)。游客大量涌入，有时候当地人反而会主动避开这些地方。美国也一样。比如纽约的Times Square (时代广场)，或者洛杉矶的Hollywood Walk of Fame (好莱坞星光大道)，都是游客非常喜欢去的地方，但很多当地人平时其实并不会去，尤其是在the busiest season (最繁忙的旅游旺季)。 所以，对于当地人来说，“popular with tourists (深受游客欢迎)”并不一定等于“最适合度假”。这里有一个很好用的英语表达：Off the beaten path它指的是那些less touristy(游客较少的)、不在热门旅游路线上的地方，也就是我们常说的“小众目的地”。比如你不想去人挤人的热门景点，就可以说：I'd rather go somewhere off the beaten path. 我更想去一个小众一点的地方。很多法国人其实更喜欢这种旅行方式。梅莉觉得：Most French people would rather discover somewhere quiet than spend two hours looking for parking.与其花两个小时找停车位、排队、堵车，不如去一个安静的小地方，好好享受假期。所以，法国人的度假理念有时候并不是“去更多地方”。People don't always want to do more. Sometimes they just want to do... less.而是真的慢下来。而这种“少做一点”的度假方式，其实也体现了一种很典型的holiday mindset (度假心态)。02. Beach Holidays 海边度假：不一定非要去圣特罗佩说到法国的海边，很多人第一反应就是Saint-Tropez（圣特罗佩）。但实际上，很多法国人并不会把整个暑假都花在这些超级热门的地方。Many French people prefer smaller towns nearby.比如Cassis 或者Collioure。它们同样是非常漂亮的coastal towns(海滨小镇)，但整体感觉会更加轻松。They're beautiful coastal towns, but they feel much more relaxed.美国其实也有类似的地方。很多美国人也会选择一些没有那么出名的小海滨城市，因为风景一样漂亮，但是游客少很多，也会更加放松。而这也是法国人度假时很看重的一点：Sometimes they just want to do... less.比如，坐在海边，吃顿饭，散散步，真正享受假期。Meili自己最喜欢的地方，就是她的家乡Brittany (布列塔尼)。Brittany is usually much cooler than the south of France.夏天那里的气温通常只有二十几度，比法国南部凉快不少，所以很多法国家庭都会选择去那里避暑。当然，还有一个法国人绝对不会忽略的问题：What about the food?布列塔尼的海鲜、fresh oysters (新鲜生蚝)、mussels (贻贝)、crêpes（可丽饼）以及salted butter caramel (咸黄油焦糖)，都是当地非常有代表性的美食。美国其实也有不少“为了吃而旅行”的目的地。比如：New Orleans — Cajun food (卡津菜)Texas — barbecue (烧烤)Maine — fresh lobster (新鲜龙虾)所以对很多人来说，food can be part of the holiday (美食本身就是假期的一部分)。03. Mountain Holidays 不去海边？那就去山里当然，并不是所有人都喜欢海边。Some French families head for the mountains.法国的一些家庭到了夏天，也会选择去山区度假。其中一个很受欢迎的地方就是Lake Annecy(阿讷西湖)。这里的湖水非常清澈，可以游泳、划桨板、骑自行车，也可以什么都不做，只是坐在湖边。You can swim, paddleboard, cycle, or just sit by the lake.听起来就很适合放空。那美国人呢？美国可以选择的山地度假目的地就更多了。很多人会去national parks(国家公园)。比如：Yellowstone (黄石公园)Yosemite (约塞米蒂国家公园)Lake Tahoe 太浩湖()Smoky Mountains (斯莫基山脉)Rocky Mountains (落基山脉)而且美国人非常喜欢一种旅行方式：Road trip(公路旅行)。开着车一路欣赏风景，本身就是旅行的一部分。所以美国人的假期有时候并不只是“到达目的地”，而是：The journey is part of the adventure.旅程本身，就是冒险的一部分。04. Camping 法国人也超爱露营，但不是“野外求生”还有一件事可能会让很多人意外：Camping is huge in France.法国人真的非常喜欢露营。不过，法国的camping和很多人想象中的“搭个帐篷、在野外过几天苦日子”并不完全一样。Many campgrounds have swimming pools, restaurants, playgrounds, even little supermarkets.很多“campgrounds (露营地)”里甚至有游泳池、餐厅、儿童游乐场，还有小型超市。听起来更像是一个mini resort (小型度假村)。美国当然也有类似的campground，但不少美国人会选择去国家公园，住帐篷、开RV（房车），或者直接在森林里露营。相对来说，会更加接近自然。但法国人露营的重点，往往并不是“surviving outdoors (在野外生存)”。Camping isn't really about surviving outdoors. It's about slowing down and spending time together.重点是slowing down (慢下来)，以及和家人、朋友一起度过时间。美国其实也有类似的体验。很多人会围着营火聊天、烤棉花糖、hiking（徒步）、看星星。所以不管是法国还是美国，camping isn't just about the outdoors (露营不只是为了亲近自然)。它更重要的是一起创造回忆。05. Vacation Culture 真正的假期，是把自己从工作里“关掉”聊到度假文化，还有一个法国人非常看重的特点：French people take holidays seriously.法国人真的很重视休假。这里有一个非常漂亮、也很实用的英语表达：To switch off它不是简单地说“把手机关掉”，而是指让自己的大脑真正从工作状态中退出。It means mentally disconnecting from work (让自己在心理上与工作断开).也就是说，人虽然还拿着手机，但脑子里已经不再想着工作。而美国的vacation culture（度假文化）也正在发生变化。过去，一些美国人在休假时可能依然会回邮件、接工作电话；但现在越来越多人开始重视：Work-life balance (工作与生活的平衡)。真正的休假，不应该只是换一个地方继续工作。Sometimes you really need to switch off.暂时把工作放下来，让自己真正休息。当然，美国在这方面还有room for improvement(进步空间)。但越来越多人开始意识到：假期不是浪费时间，而是生活本身的一部分。所以，下次如果你去法国，可能不妨换一种玩法。美国也有很多漂亮的小镇、国家公园，以及适合road trip（公路旅行）的地方。那么，如果给你两个星期的假期：你会选择去一个热门城市不断打卡，还是去一个安静的小地方，好好放松？What's your ideal holiday?欢迎在评论区告诉我们，你最喜欢怎样度假！

Bonjour Tristesse est un film dʹOtto Preminger adapté dʹun roman à succès des années 50 sorti en 1958. Enfin un roman…LE roman. Celui de Françoise Sagan sorti en 1954 alors quʹelle nʹa que 18 ans. Cʹest un véritable phénomène littéraire. Car il est le fait dʹune jeune romancière étonnamment mûre, qui écrit avec la liberté de lʹadolescence, son impudeur, son impudence, une histoire dʹune jeune fille égoïste, futile, confrontée au chagrin, à la tristesse, au deuil quʹelle a elle-même provoqué. Et cʹest ce roman, quʹOtto Preminger, le maître du film noir, adapte au cinéma. Il en fait une histoire nostalgique, moins torturée que le roman. Lʹadaptation adopte le point de vue de Cécile, adolescente de 17 ans qui vit une vie oisive avec son père, un adulescent qui multiplie les conquêtes. Mais son père tombe amoureux dʹune femme de son âge, ancienne amie de la mère de Cécile. La vie de la jeune fille en est bouleversée. Otto Preminger retrouve Jean Seberg, sa Jeanne dʹArc, pour jouer Cécile. La comédienne sʹy montre mutine, jalouse, égoïste, absolument parfaite face à Deborah Kerr, David Niven et Mylène Demongeot. Tourné en décors naturels entre Paris et Saint-Tropez, des décors somptueux, sous le soleil de la Riviera, Bonjour Tristesse est un film qui raconte son époque, sans tabous, ni contraintes. Le film connaît en France un joli succès critique et public. Les Etats-Unis le boude. Pas assez français, ou trop français à leur goût. Peu importe, Sagan a dʹautres projets, Preminger aussi.
