The latest CIPD report on the Learning & Development profession is both revealing and inspiring. L&D practitioners and leaders have had a huge amount to deal with, in recent years, with many using circumstances to make radical changes. For others, not so much. So, what does this all mean and what do we need to do about it? In this conversation, we unpack the report and highlight some key findings - as well as provide commentary and insight ourselves. KEY TAKEAWAYS The CIPD report seeks to uncover what´s changing, what´s new, and what is important for the L&D community. Despite challenges, the industry is optimistic. There is now more emphasis on digital. It will soon no longer be possible to recruit yourself out of the skills gap, a fact that is driving businesses to invest in training their personnel. When it comes to organizational priorities and alignment there has been some slippage. Learner time constraints and a lack of engagement are still issues. Line managers are still not playing a key role in learning. Ongoing learning, reflection, and adaptation are all essential. 57% of L&D professionals seek to understand performance issues before recommending a solution. Zoom out on the data to get the bigger picture. Use the report to look at things through a different lens and learn from it on a personal level. BEST MOMENTS 'Leaders recognize the value we have on organization priorities.' 'The hardest way to do L&D is to tell somebody a different way to do the job without understanding the job.' 'By increasing your value, you increase your currency.' In this episode we look ahead to what the Lord has for us in this season . . . MOVING TOWARD MATURITY: "So come on, let's leave the preschool fingerpainting exercises on Christ and get on with the grand work of art. Grow up in Christ. The basic foundational truths are in place: turning your back on “salvation by self-help” and turning in trust toward God; baptismal instructions; laying on of hands; resurrection of the dead; eternal judgment. God helping us, we'll stay true to all that. But there's so much more. Let's get on with it!" Hebrews 6:1 (Message Translation)
“Christ Supreme in all Things.” As we study Hebrews together, we will explore how Christ is truly greater than anything this world has to offer. He is the “greater than” King who supplies all our needs and authors our salvation. For more resources like this, visit us at: Verse By Verse Fellowship.
In this episode we look at how Joseph is brought out of prison, and how his experience of navigating different positions of leadership, as well as different seasons of suffering, develops and qualifies Joseph for the assignment God has for him. Specifically, Joseph's relationship with God deepens through each stage of his life, as opposed to weakening. Most notably, he is recognized by Pharaoh as being wise and discerning, which are things Joseph developed through the various stages of his life up until that point. But Joseph has also not developed a bitter, hateful posture toward Egyptians, or the nation of Egypt, even though Egyptians were responsible for some of his most painful experiences. This is quite remarkable considering what Joseph has experienced in Egypt, and is potentially a clue about the kind of relationship Joseph had with God - he allowed God to nourish and sustain him in such a way that he did not allow the pain of his rejection and misfortune to overcome him. We then look at how this same developmental dynamic in Joseph's life is also present in Jesus' life, specifically with his relationship with the Father, the Spirit, as well as people, too. Jesus himself goes through a developmental process that qualifies him for the assignment God gave him to be a blessing to the nations. And while we don't know for sure, it is most likely that Jesus was wounded by family members, experienced rejection, and has personal encounters with misfortune, which in turn required him to struggle against succumbing to harness of heart, unforgiveness and bitterness. The good news is that he overcame those struggles, and allowed God to, like Joseph, sustain him in God's developmental process. Learning & Development roles can vary greatly depending on the individual's specialism, ambition, and the opportunities within any given team. But the opportunity to run an L&D department solo is a unique experience and one that brings as much freedom and excitement as it does challenge and resourcefulness. In this episode, Aimee compares and contrasts her experience in L&D teams and her solo role now and provides insights into how to make this successful and a career move of choice. KEY TAKEAWAYS The term standalone R&D roles different things to different people. In this case, it means working alone in an organisation, as a generalist, doing whatever is required. Working alone forces you to grow your skillset quickly. With standalone L&D you have to lean on others in the organisation. You have to be careful not to burn out when working in a standalone role. Working in a standalone role forces you to properly identify what is effective. You cannot afford to reinvent the wheel. Tapping into what is there and building on it is essential. You end up being very close to all of your internal clients. BEST MOMENTS 'What is rarely explored is how one person does this (L&D) on their own. ' 'In a standalone role, you really have to be passionate.' 'Reserve your energy. Please look after yourself. You can´t do it all. ' ABOUT AIMEE YOUNG Aimee is L&D Manager at Snowplow, a behavioural data company, and is the only person in L&D. Before this role, Aimee worked in L&D for OLIVER Agency, Sumitomo and Taylor Wessing. Aimee began her L&D career at Towards Maturity benchmarking L&D teams and providing insights for the profession. Laura Overton is an award winning learning analyst dedicated to uncovering and sharing effective practices in learning innovation that lead to business value. As the founder of Towards Maturity, she is also known for leading the first 15 years of a longitudinal study programme (2004 – February 2019) respected for uncovering and share learning strategies that lead to business success. Laura joins Lucinda to discuss data itself, and why some people are fearful of being too data-driven when it comes to people management. KEY TAKEAWAYS Because of the emphasis on technology, AI and big data, there seems to be a general movement towards collating these many data sources and examining the way in which it can impact our organisations. Data is all about evidence and evidence is about proving. It isn't just useful in proving our value, but also the ways in which we can improve and disprove. As people professionals, when you say the word data, we conflate this with the concept of proving return on investment. There are so many different sources of data. As an industry, it is critical that we are critical thinkers and look for where the biases may lay. But it is also crucial that we do not become hyper-critical. BEST MOMENTS 'Without data, our work hasn't necessarily been as tangible' 'Being data driven is about being curious and willing to look at alternative sources of insight and information' 'It's about improving. it might even be about disproving something' 'Data actually liberates us' About the Guest, Laura Overton Laura Overton is an experienced international speaker, author and facilitator with a passion for exploring, challenging and sharing. Let Us Go On - Moving Towards Maturity | Sunday, November 21, 2021 | Pastor Carl Stephens
On "Let's Talk Money" today, Dave and Reb encourage listeners to think about how they react to financial stress, as they share their own go-to responses around money stress. Dave tends to bury his head in the sand, while Reb leans toward more controlling behaviours. Looking at verses in 1 Corinthians 3, they also encourage listeners to grow in maturity in the Lord, so that envy, contentions, and divisions don't rise among God's people. Tune in and hear today's conversation which is sponsored today by More Than Enough Financial - a financial coaching, tax, and mortgage company helping people find hope and freedom in their finances one day at a time. What do you want to be when you grow up? A question we're often asked as children, but not often enough as adults; what are we aiming for? Not many of us would answer ‘I want to be mature'. Yet, it is with the goal of presenting us ‘mature in Christ' that Paul strives ‘with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in' him. So why maturity and what is it actually? Is it something we can actively pursue or a by-product of a way of life? What are signs of maturity? We'll explore the surprisingly rich category of maturity and why it might prove a more helpful goal than we'd expect. For more lectures, visit the L'Abri Ideas Library at labriideaslibrary.org. We are talking about "growing up" and what that looks like, this week on Counting the Stars! There are pesky little obstacles like fear, control, and self-protection that we all have to deal with on some level. The only way through and into maturity involves some things that we don't love signing up for..... but its so worth it!!You are not in this alone!Peace,Mary & MaloneBook Note: Immortal Diamond by Richard RohrEmail: mandmcountingthestars@gmail.comFacebook: Arts and Wellness of EdentonInstagram: @marysloangilliamSound Cloud: Malone GilliamSupport the show (https://www.paypal.me/MaryGilliampay)

Nigel Paine and Martin Couzins discuss the Towards Maturity report Who moved my skills?
The concept of “learning in-the-flow of work”, coined by Josh Bersin, is a simple notion; learners can access learning at their point of need in the workplace. See Bersin’s article “A New Paradigm For Corporate Training: Learning In The Flow of Work” (Bersin, 2018) available at: https://joshbersin.com/2018/06/a-new-paradigm-for-corporate-training-learning-in-the-flow-of-work/. He cites the 2018 LinkedIn Learning survey of over 4000 L&D leaders and business professionals that highlighted the biggest barrier to learning is that employees simply don’t have enough time for learning; respondents want to learn at their own pace (58%) and in-the-flow of work (49%) (LinkedIn, 2018). This is further supported by Towards Maturity’s “Learner Voice” research (Towards Maturity, 2016) which found that 91% of learners want to learn at their own pace. See https://towardsmaturity.org/2016/11/03/learner-voice-part-3/. However, learning in-the-flow of work requires learning practitioners to design and facilitate learning close to the workface and that requires new thinking and tactics. We can no longer rely on “the course”. Andy Lancaster, Head of Learning at CIPD, David James, Chief Learning Officer at Looop Learning, and Kate Graham, Head Of Content at Fosway Group discuss this and more.
Through looking at James 1:21-25, Aaron challenges us to move towards maturity.
