| Review | Four years ago, Shazam! was a breath of fresh air in the messy DC superhero pipeline of the time. It's sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods tries to capture that lightning in a bottle for a second time. Unfortunately, the movie seems doomed to failure because of massive delays, and then dropping shortly after the announcement of a hard James Gunn flavored reset for the entire Warner Brothers DC catalog. Well, there are worse ways to spend two hours on a Saturday.
Hey join us as we review the latest Warner Brothers DC movie The Batman. This is part one of our review and fantasy pick of the best Batman ever.
Jordan Purnell Jackson creator of the E.V.E. of Insurrection comic and Illustrator of the Ancient Illumination graphic novels as well as the Jericho's Bane comic joins Rod Van Blake, author of the Ancient Illumination series and Nyumbani Chronicles: the Return Home to discuss the Batman. Warner Brothers/DC's latest offering that's still enjoying favorable numbers in theaters. Episode 066 of That Was Disappointing is Live. What if… we named our podcast That Was NOT Disappointing? Today's Theme: Marvel Comics. You know, the studio (w/ an assist from Disney) behind the comic book films that people actually like. Our first topic is the obscure character you'd like to see get their own intellectual property. Art tried to cheat (surprise!) and name someone who was featured on 2-3 pages of a single issue storyline. At least he was keeping with the concept of the podcast. Keep reaching for the gold, homie. Our second topic is the Marvel film you'd like to see get the Warner Brothers/DC treatment. This is why we can't have nice things, Kevin. You shouldn't wish that fate upon your worst enemy. I mean, maybe Producer Kenny, but to be fair, he knows what he did… Our third topic is the character you'd be happy if Thanos were to snap out of existence. Lex was trying to be all M. Night Shyamalan and say that Thanos should snap himself out of existence. Lame! We're thankful he doesn't snap any of our panelists, because it'd be hard to find others dumb enough to do this show. Our final topic is the character you feel has inexplicable popularity. For his premiere with the show, Big Ben Kennedy (!) chose Deez Nuts, which technically isn't a Marvel property. After he's done our show a few times, we'll have squashed his spirit enough that he falls in line. ❤️
COVID has caused havoc with the release schedule of a huge number of films. One of them was WONDER WOMAN 1984 (2020) which had been scheduled as a big summer blockbuster for 2020. After the COVID pandemic was determined not to be ending anytime soon, Warner Brothers/DC decided to release all their big budget films directly to HBO Max to help drive up the buzz for the new service. WONDER WOMAN 1984 was the first reaching that streaming service on Christmas day. When federal law enforcement break up a black market of antiquities, they ship the items to the Smithonian where Dr. Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig) is assigned to identify the artifacts. One of them, the so called “Dreamstone” that grants wishes to those in its possession, is suddenly desired by the megalomaniac oilman Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) steals it only to be corrupted by its malevolent side effects. Gal Gadot once again reprises her role as Wonder Woman with a reappearance of Chris Pine as Steve Trevor. When Kristen Wiig was cast as the iconic Cheetah, some felt it was miscasting but Wiig proves otherwise in a career defining role. Your co-hosts take a look at the latest DC universe film and give their thoughts.
