Jong and Michael are once again joined by Chalice Williams of Reel Movie Junkie, to discuss the latest episode of Lanterns. The trio share why the John Stewart focused episode was needed more than a Hal Jordan-centric one, giving John an origin story, the Guardian's ignorance, the process of making a Green Lantern, what did Hal's facial expression mean at the end of the episode, how does Sinestro play into Hal's treatment of John, how the series doesn't spoon feed info to viewers, the ability of the series to add questions but add new layers with each episode, parents doing their best, the incredible performances of Jasmine Cephas Jones & J. Alphonse Nicholson, whether showing love is a stepping stone to fear, and much more! The group also share memories and thoughts on the passing of the legendary voice actor Peter Cullen, who passed away last week at the age of 85. Follow Chalice as she continues her "Road to Doomsday" series on social media, @HeyChalice on Instagram, Threads, and TikTok. This week, Da7e and Neil are time-hopping through the origins of John Stewart and his complicated path toward Green Lantern candidacy. In The Calm [04:58], they assess the show's levels of wokeness. And with the help of numerous emails from listeners, they continue to theorize about the Lanterns rings and the "imperfect system" of choosing candidates. Then in The Storm [52:20], they attempt to predict how the rest of the season will be paced and whether there is a classic Damon Lindelof show narrative pivot right around the corner.Next week, Lanterns returns with a fourth episode that gets back to the conversation with Hal and Sinestro and maybe, just maybe, brings in some big action beats. To interact with the show, send your comments and questions to stormofspoilers@gmail.com, and follow us on Twitter/X and Bluesky @Da7eandNeil.You can also support Da7e and Neil and get all kinds of bonus content (from the Game of Thrones era to the LOST rewatch to our Twin Peaks rewatch project to our current Adventure Pod and Dark watch project) by subscribing to our Patreon here: patreon.com/Da7eandNeil

A Green Lantern origin story gets a lot darker when you realize the real question is not whether John Stewart can be fearless - it is whether fear was engineered out of him. Mario Busto and Zachary Newton break down Lanterns Season 1, Episode 3, "Outcast," and the episode's brutal reveal about John's childhood, Hal Jordan's complicated role in his life, and why the Guardians may be far more dangerous than they first appear.Bernadette's reveal changes everything. The apple-shooting training, the family pressure, the strange guardian intervention, and the eerie way John's path is shaped from childhood all point to a bigger problem: the people choosing Earth's protectors may not understand Earth at all. Mario and Zachary unpack how the episode reframes Hal not as the obvious villain, but as a flawed, human obstacle caught in a system that seems determined to use him up and replace him. You'll discover:    •    Why John's upbringing may be the key to understanding his Green Lantern destiny    •    How Bernadette becomes the episode's most surprising force    •    Why the Guardians' selection process looks less like wisdom and more like a mistake    •    What Sinestro's warning could really mean for Earth    •    How Hal Jordan and John Stewart may be headed toward a collision no one in the episode fully sees yetMario also digs into the show's larger themes around courage, discipline, and the difference between being fearless and being broken. Zachary pushes the conversation into the politics of replacement, the psychology of mentorship, and the possibility that the Guardians are creating the very problem they think they're preventing.Mario Busto and Zachary Newton co-host Story Archives, bringing sharp reactions, character theory, and a lot of chaotic chemistry to their Lanterns coverage. If you want a discussion that goes beyond recap and gets into the emotional and cosmic consequences of the episode, this one belongs on your list.Essential listening if you care about Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Sinestro, and the kind of origin story that quietly changes the whole show. Also includes a very unserious amount of movie talk, from The Odyssey and Dexter to what the hosts are watching next.

Hello Lantern Corps!  The action this week was between two towns instead of time periods. We had some mysteries answered but more questions raised. Join us as we cover Lanterns "Trust Fall." Hal rudely awakens Jon for a flying lesson.  The instructions are fly. John does not even move. But he creates a live bird construct from the ring. Hal has already booked him a plane ticket to Coast City to pick up the Lantern to charge the ring up. So all he really wanted to do was get John out of town. With John gone, he heads to main street finding everyone in a town hall. After a disagreement with Sheriff Kane, and a request to leave town from his lawyer, he heads to the morgue. He steals all the alien bodies.  He has found out that the metal detectors are really alien detectors. He does not listen to Sheriff Kane and questions Will about the tech and targeting aliens. He is told to leave town, but refuses and gets shot. He is taken to the hospital and questioned by Kerry after he wakes up from surgery. The hospital is brand new and has no other people there being treated. John is followed to Coast City and to Hal's mansion. A rich guy gave it to him for saving his son, but it is barely lived in. John recovers the lantern from the pocket dimension and feeds John's alien plant Earl. But he is kidnapped by the aliens. They are led by Antaan or is it Atrocitus the future Red Lantern. Their planet was devastated by Manhunters. Manhunters are shapeshifting robots made by the Guardians. After they failed, the Guardians moved to create the Lantern Corps. The aliens are in town because they believe Abin Sur had a Manhunter with him when he crashed. The believe he is hiding in town. They give John an ultimatum, let them know the identity of the Manhunter or they blow up the town. John reports all this to Hal. He also still has his bird construct with him. A feat that takes a lot of will power. Hal files to the Lantern prison to ask rebel Green Lantern, Sinestro, about the Manhunters. He says they are the 2nd biggest threat Hal is facing.   Contact Information: If you want to join in the discussion, you can submit feedback via email to TomorrowsLegendsPodcast@gmail.com or at at https://www.speakpipe.com/TomorrowsLegends . Reflix 183 – Lanternas amplia o mistério e coloca Sinestro no jogo

A luz verde continua acesa no Reflix 183. O segundo episódio melhora a estreia? A mistura de investigação e ficção científica está funcionando? E já dá para descobrir quem é o Caçador Cósmico escondido em Rushville?

Good Enough to Keep Watching, Not Good Enough to Stop Complaining This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl take a somber look back at three icons we lost this week with Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, and Peter Cullen, and the massive mark each left on pop culture. Then it's back to the weekly watchlist as Ted Lasso tries to bring the Greyhounds together, Reacher digs deeper into an increasingly dangerous conspiracy, and Lanterns pushes Hal Jordan and John Stewart further into a mystery that is getting a whole lot more cosmic. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Celebrity Deaths This Week: 4:46 Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 4: 16:20 Reacher Season 4 Episode 5: 24:40 Lanterns Season 1 Episode 2: 3240 Celebrity Deaths Dolly Parton January 19, 1946 – August 25, 2026 | Age 80 Country music icon, songwriter, actress, businesswoman, and philanthropist Dolly Parton died August 25 after what her representatives described as a brief battle with cancer. Her six-decade career produced classics including “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You,” while her film career included 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias. Parton's legacy extends far beyond music. She helped build Dollywood into one of Tennessee's biggest attractions and founded the Imagination Library, which has provided hundreds of millions of free books to children. Dollywood announced that the park would remain open following her death, honoring her belief that “the show must go on.” Infamous angle: One of those genuinely rare celebrities who seemed to transcend genre, politics, generations, and even celebrity culture itself. Tim Curry April 19, 1946 – August 25, 2026 | Age 80 Actor, singer, and voice performer Tim Curry died peacefully at his Los Angeles home following a period of ill health. Curry became a cultural icon as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but his ridiculously versatile career also included Clue, It, Home Alone 2, Muppet Treasure Island, Legend, The Three Musketeers, and decades of stage and voice work. He received three Tony nominations and continued working after suffering a major stroke in 2012 that left him using a wheelchair. For an entire generation of genre fans, Curry was basically the patron saint of unforgettable villains and weirdos. Peter Cullen July 28, 1941 – August 26, 2026 | Age 85 Legendary Canadian voice actor Peter Cullen died peacefully at his Los Angeles home surrounded by family. No cause of death has been announced. Cullen became inseparable from Optimus Prime, originating the character’s voice in the 1984 Transformers animated series and returning repeatedly across animation, games, and the live-action films. He also voiced Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh and contributed memorable vocal work to Predator, Knight Rider, G.I. Joe, and numerous animated series. The voice and personality he created for Optimus were inspired in large part by his older brother Larry, a decorated Marine veteran, whose advice to Peter was essentially that a real hero should be strong enough to be gentle. That philosophy became fundamental to Optimus Prime. Infamous angle: For anybody who grew up in the ’80s, this one hits differently. Optimus Prime wasn’t merely a cartoon voice. Ted Lasson (Apple TV) Network: Apple TV Genre: Comedy / Sports / Drama Developed By: Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly Starring: Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift Season: 4 Episode: 4 Episode Title: “Greyhounds’ Day Off” Release Date: August 26, 2026 Episode Summary Ted, Beard, and Coach Alice try to break up the cliques developing within the new team by canceling practice and sending everyone out for some forced bonding, eventually leading the group to pub trivia and considerably more trouble than Ted probably planned. Meanwhile, Rebecca and Keeley attend a women’s football business summit where they encounter eccentric sports investor Zelda Southport, played by Tracey Ullman. Zelda’s aggressive approach to investing in women’s sports gets Keeley’s attention while Rebecca remains considerably more skeptical. Roy and Keeley’s increasingly complicated relationship also continues, with Keeley challenging Roy to actually date other women before the two seriously consider getting back together. Rating Out of 5, Boots Ain’t Messing Around Brian: 3.3/5 Darryl: 3.1/5 Reacher (Amazon Prime) Network: Prime Video Genre: Action / Crime / Thriller Based On: Gone Tomorrow by Lee Child Developed By: Nick Santora Starring: Alan Ritchson, Sydelle Noel, Agnez Mo, Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette, Kevin Corrigan Season: 4 Episode: 5 Episode Title: “Bridge” Release Date: August 26, 2026 Rating: TV-MA Series Summary A seemingly random encounter aboard a Philadelphia subway pulls Jack Reacher into a conspiracy involving a missing flash drive, government operatives, hired killers, and information powerful people are desperate to keep buried. Season four adapts Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow and drops Reacher into an increasingly tangled political and intelligence conspiracy. Episode Summary After a misunderstanding turns Reacher into Philadelphia's most wanted man, he spends much of the episode doing what Reacher does best: escaping situations that should probably be impossible to escape. Meanwhile, Jacob, Tamara, and Plum recover the flash drive Anna mailed before her death, along with her phone, but their attempt to finally get some answers turns into a violent confrontation with Lila and Amisha. Jacob gets his first genuine opportunity to strike back at the people responsible for his sister's death. The recovered evidence also starts bringing the larger conspiracy into focus. A photograph connects Congressman Sampson to a disgraced Indonesian general, but Reacher suspects another person in the image may actually be more important to the mystery. Anna's phone also gives the group stronger evidence tying Lila directly to the killings. By the end, Reacher and Tamara's investigation leads them toward another confrontation while Jacob is taken hostage, leaving Tamara with a pretty awful decision to make. And this one definitely supports the subtitle vibe we were talking about: there's plenty of entertaining Reacher insanity here, but the season is getting increasingly dependent on everyone accepting some wildly convenient and increasingly ridiculous shit to keep the plot moving. Rating Out of 5, How Many Ways Can One Person Escape the Police? Brian: 3.2/5 Darryl: 3.25/5 Lanterns (HBO Max) Lanterns Network: HBO / HBO Max Genre: Drama / Sci-Fi / Action / Mystery Created By: Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, Tom King Starring: Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter Season: 1 Episode: 2 Episode Title: “Trust Fall” Release Date: August 23, 2026 Rating: TV-14 Series Summary Veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan is assigned to train former Marine and newly recruited Lantern John Stewart. Their relationship begins badly enough before the two are dragged into an investigation surrounding a bizarre killing in rural Nebraska. What initially resembles an Earthbound murder mystery steadily exposes a much larger extraterrestrial conspiracy connected to the history of the Green Lantern Corps. Episode Summary Hal and John investigate a deadly shooting in an attempt to prove that an alien force was responsible, with their investigation increasingly pointing toward one of the Green Lantern Corps’ oldest mistakes: the Manhunters. The episode digs deeper into the mystery surrounding Rushville while separating Hal and John enough to develop both characters individually. Sheriff Kerry also reveals that she originally came from Gotham, quietly expanding the show’s connections to the larger DCU.And then the episode drops the considerably bigger comic-book bomb: Sinestro, played by Ulrich Thomsen. The imprisoned former Lantern is positioned almost like the show’s Hannibal Lecter, someone Hal doesn’t trust but may need because Sinestro understands both Hal and the threat they are facing better than almost anyone. A ghost-town mystery, a ticking 48-hour clock, and a Green Lantern who may already be dead - this episode turns Trustfall into a full-blown paranoia machine. Mario Busto and Zachary Newton break down the eerie, stripped-down feel of Lanterns Season 1, Episode 2, and dig into the questions that make this chapter impossible to shake: Who is the Manhunter? Why is Sinestro suddenly the biggest name in the room? And what exactly is John Stewart hiding? The hosts zoom in on the episode's biggest reveal - that the threat is bigger than one missing ring or one small Nebraska town. Between the alien tech, the empty hospital, the creepy football-stadium scanners, and the bizarrely sparse worldbuilding, they unpack how the show makes everything feel off on purpose. They also debate whether the “budgety” look is really a limitation or a deliberate strategy to make Rushville feel like a place where something is deeply wrong. You'll hear them break down:    •    The 48-hour countdown and why it instantly raises the stakes    •    The Manhunter reveal and why the show keeps pointing suspicion at different people    •    John Stewart's strange power, especially that bird he creates without a ring    •    Sinestro's warning that John may be the bigger threat than Hal    •    The creepy possibility that Detective Carrie Kane is playing a much bigger game than anyone realizesMario and Zachary also dig into the episode's strongest comparison points, including Breaking Bad, Pluribus, Slow Horses, and even classic Black Mirror dread, to explain why this chapter feels so unnervingly grounded. Along the way, they wrestle with Hal's possible fate, the mystery of the lantern itself, and whether the show is quietly setting up a much bigger betrayal than the one we think we're watching. If you're hooked by conspiracy, comic-book lore, and shows that hide their biggest answers in plain sight, this is essential listening. Trustfall doesn't just move the plot forward - it makes you question who in this town can be trusted at all. First up is Lanterns on HBO, starring Kyle Chandler as veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as newly recruited John Stewart. Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, the series takes the cosmic mythology of the Green Lanterns and brings it down to Earth for a mystery involving the two Lanterns and a murder investigation in rural Nebraska. With Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, and Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, the series blends superhero mythology with the feel of a grounded detective thriller. We're breaking down the premiere, the performances, the mysteries, and what Lanterns could mean for the future of the DC Universe. Then we turn to Green Lantern Corps #17, written by Morgan Hampton, with art by Fernando Pasarin and Oclair Albert. The Manhunters are pressing their attack, and the Lanterns face an impossible challenge as they attempt to protect Ophidian. When Effigy goes supernova on the sun, transforming it into a black hole, the Lanterns must race past the event horizon to save Ophidian and prevent Oa and New Thanagar from being plunged into catastrophic ice ages. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Marvel Studios capped San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday with one of its most crowded Hall H panels ever, delivering a night of reveals that stretched the studio's slate all the way through 2028:Attendees were treated to an exclusive Avengers: Doomsday trailer that has not been released online and affirmed that Avengers: Secret Wars would be a singular film, not split into two parts as speculated. Kevin Feige also announced that Avengers: Endgame returns to theaters September 25 with new footage connecting it to Doomsday ahead of its December 18 release.Ryan Gosling took the stage as Marvel's new Ghost Rider, set to star as Johnny Blaze in a 2028 film to be directed by Shawn Levy. Gosling told the crowd, “this is a character I've wanted to play for a very long time.”Ryan Coogler revealed a December 15, 2028 release date for Black Panther 3 and introduced David Jonsson as a grown-up T'Challa II, the son of T'Challa first glimpsed at the end of Wakanda Forever. Jonsson kept his remarks short, saying he wants to let the screen do the talking. While notably absent from the SDCC proceedings, on Friday DC Studios and HBO debuted the official full trailer for Lanterns, which premieres August 16 on HBO Max. The footage leans into Green Lantern lore for the first time, with Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan reciting the complete oath, Ulrich Thomsen appearing as an imprisoned Sinestro, Nathan Fillion cameoing as Guy Gardner, and the robotic Manhunters revealed as the season's central threat. The studio's trailer train kept rolling outside the convention as well, with the release of a full trailer for Clayface, starring Tom Rhys Harries, ahead of its October 23 theatrical debut. Between a cosmic HBO mystery and a horror-leaning theatrical swing, is DC's growing range its biggest strength heading into the fall?Prime Video revealed the full trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season three, confirming a November 11 return and that Simon Pegg will voice the Balrog, which speaks on screen for the first time.Prime Video also dropped the first trailer for Blade Runner 2099, a limited series set after the events of the first two films, starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer and streaming November 25.Insomniac Games debuted the official story trailer for Marvel's Wolverine at its own Comic-Con panel, ahead of the game's September 15 launch on PS5.Prime Video revealed that House of the Dragon's Matthew Needham will voice The Joker in season two of Batman: Caped Crusader, which begins streaming July 31.At San Diego Comic Con, The Marvels and WandaVision star Teyonah Parris was asked by Deadline about the future of her character Monica Rambeau in the MCU and she responded “I miss Monica as much as you guys do. I wish her well and I'm excited to see what they do next.”Sony dropped the full trailer for Zach Cregger's Resident Evil ahead of its Comic-Con panel; the film hits theaters September 18.Avatar: Seven Havens, a new animated series, premieres October 9 on Paramount+, announced during the Comic-Con panel for Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, which itself premiered on the service this weekend.Apple TV debuted the first trailer for Matchbox the Movie, starring John Cena, Jessica Biel, and Teyonah Parris, streaming October 9.Sony has won the bidding war for Ridley Scott's Treasure Island, which will star Hugh Jackman as Long John Silver.Jonathan Levine is in talks to direct Days of Thunder 2 for Paramount, with Tom Cruise returning to star and Jerry Bruckheimer back to produce.Obsession's Michael Johnston is in early talks to join Universal's next Mummy film.Loki producer Kevin R. Wright and Tom Hiddleston have reunited for Pompeii: Out of Time, a three-part National Geographic docuseries now streaming on Disney+.

Jace and Rocky break down all 11 DC releases for the week of July 1, 2026. Absolute Green Lantern #16 brings the Absolute Lantern spectrum closer together as Hal Jordan uses violet light to protect the group from the Black Star of Sinestro, Jo Mullein weaponizes the people of Evergreen inside the Green Lantern construct, and Jessica Cruz's connection to Mogo threatens to throw the fight sideways. Poison Ivy #46 moves the pieces into place for Bad Seeds without Pamela appearing in the issue, as Janet from HR explains why Harley may be the only person who can reach Ivy and why Pamela's love for Harley makes her feel vulnerable. Batman #11 brings Lady Ojo back into the story as Batman clashes with her, the Minotaur's hold on Gotham's criminal money comes back into focus, Dr. Zeller deals with the fallout of Bruce's almost-date, and Verity Pennyworth makes her first appearance at Wayne Manor. Adventures of Superman: Book of El #10 continues Philip Kennedy Johnson's House of El story as Superman battles for his adoptive children, the fight on Tamarian escalates, and Kryl-Ux proves how powerful he has become by taking on a Sun-Eater. Batgirl #21 brings Cassandra Cain back to Gotham as Doctor Forget-Me-Not forces her to confront memories of a young girl named Victoria who may have been killed by Cassandra when she was younger, while the issue continues building Batgirl's own supporting cast. 100 Bullets: The U.S. of Anger #1 returns to Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso's world in black and white, following Lono through a grim, angry story involving podcasters, gang violence, police violence and the fractured state of America. Deadman #2 improves on the first issue by bringing in Plastic Man, showing Deadman fail to take over Batman because of Bruce's psychological defenses, and expanding the villain's interference with souls transitioning into the afterlife. Supergirl: Survive #2 turns Kara and baby Kal-El's escape into a galaxy-hopping Elseworlds adventure as Lobo's gang hunts the last Kryptonians, the Lantern Corps appears across the emotional spectrum, and Kara receives a hope lantern ring after Saint Walker's death. Absolute Martian Manhunter #12 closes the series by focusing on John Jones' relationship with his son Tyler, how his inability to understand Tyler helped fracture his family, and how the Martian Manhunter experience lets him see others differently as he chooses a second chance with his wife and child. JSA #21 explores the Spectre's origin and has the spirit of vengeance jump between different JSA hosts, including Obsidian, Jade and Wildcat, while Metron suggests the mystery depends not only on the Spectre's beginning but also on Jim Corrigan's origin. Batman / Green Arrow / The Question: Arcadia #4 continues Gabriel Hardman's political mystery as Batman, Green Arrow and the Question push deeper into the conspiracy around Arcadia, with the book still functioning more as a dense ideological thriller than a traditional superhero team-up. They also give a rundown of this week's collected editions, reprints and facsimile releases. As always, all books are ranked from top to bottom and each host gives a Book of the Week pick.

Grodd has been working his mental control abilities on the League for months, messing with their emotions and making them feel stressed around each other. Watching the cracks form, he takes his Society and attacks when they're vulnerable, proving they can be beaten. He is not content to let them walk away privately.  He wants to end them publicly. So, he sets a trap and captures all of them except Green Lantern. John, in tracking them back to the cave, tries to step in to free his team, and puts up a good fight, but is ultimately captured. At a Gotham Knights football game half-time show, the Society crashes the party. They are going to publicly execute the League. But Martian Manhunter has been impersonating Clayface.
