Oh my Maria, was she the most beautiful girl in China Grove? Even though I was a bit of a ramblin' man, she still loves me like a rock. Whether I was off on that midnight train to Georgia, or on that Rocky Mountain way seeking higher ground, I always kept her photograph close to my heart. She stuck by me through my indiscretions, even those with that lady Angie. Somewhere in those travels, I began to appreciate the love I lost and realized that at home, I had been on the top of the world, close enough to be knockin' on heaven's door. For more information: https://klaaskids.org/ "A controversial 2011 horror film has regained popularity after TikTok users branded it “traumatising”. Written and directed by Michael Goi, Megan is Missing is a found-footage psychological horror film centred around two 14-year-old high school students, Megan (Rachel Quinn) and Amy (Amber Perkins). The film takes place in the days leading up to Megan's disappearance after she goes to meet up with a boy she met online. Although it was filmed in 2006, the film didn't find distribution until 2011 and was banned in New Zealand for its “objectionable” content, with the country's classification office writing that “the availability of the publication is likely to be injurious to the public good”. This week you might be forgiven for laughing at some of the coverage until you realize how close it hits to home. We start with an issue reported back in 2020 that got no response, but could be set to beat the third-largest fine issued so far under GDPR (both to the same company), and end with something done in the name of security so curious, you'll have to decide what to call it. From there we pull the covers off a TikTok-related scam that gets its hands on something more tangible than an #invisiblefilter and a popular new app that has unseated TikTok as the most downloaded where it is available. We have an update on Amazon from the most unlikely of sources, a slap in the chops for Microsoft, and the kneecapping that Apple gave the protesters in China recently. Some of this week's update is just really dumb and we are not making excuses. Grab a pipe wrench, and some hot water, and let's try to figure it out. Presenting a special birthday round-up for you today. From a new law in Italia that will ban facial recognition until the rules surrounding it catch up, to the birth of a new baby who just might grow up to be president! We have some great spy thriller/forensic analysis stories for you this week that will be either reassuring or … very disconcerting in their discoveries! We move “down under” to get a better understanding as to why you don't push around our Australian friends and then hit the northern hemisphere to hear about one of the larger tech firms taking a beat-down from 40 US States. This week's update is like a high-speed chase. Better blow out the candles on the cake before something runs into it. Oh, and don't forget to make a wish! Back in 1978 was a typical day like another Sunday in Salem where it was fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.? Was that just too much heaven for a blue collar man? When Monday came along, in a strange way, perhaps you felt alive, and were ready to take a chance again. With that double vision now cleared, you left that bottle on the shelf and proceeded straight on back to work. After a time, all that bad blood would recede, and even the French who had labeled you “Le Freak” had a change of heart. This week, ooh baby baby, we travel back through those time passages to have a listen to the Billboard Top 40 from the week of November 18th, 1978. I have no problem taking on this load as a beast of burden and not once have I thought that I just wanna stop. This week we have a refreshing break for anyone in the US who has been bludgeoned with non-stop Political ads for the last two weeks. (These ads are everywhere, TV, the sides of buses, the Internet, radio, and even people's front lawns.) For our fresh “forget the election” update we start with a “You could not make this up” story again about TikTok, now changing their EU privacy policy to let all in the EU know that their data is actually going to China. We move on to a story about plagiarism by AI, scanning of devices, scanning of faces, and a new audience for New York neighborhood cams. In the name of efficiency, we have smartwatches in meat factories, and a new app that you can load on your computer to index what you did and said for weeks at a time. We have the Red Cross trying to figure out a flag to wave in the world of digital warfare amidst some interesting new malware delivery mechanisms. Finally, we end with what may be the most practical use of AI of all time: writing wedding gift thank you letters. By the time you get to the end of this update, you'll be in the know, refreshed, and maybe even ready for the next 4 months of U.S. election recounts! Back in the 70's there were just too many people with hurt feelings and bad blood. Relationships fell into two categories, diamonds and rust. From there we move on to companies with more leaks than a wicker canoe, a submarine screendoor, or a porcupine's raincoat. We have a great story about how one company has finally made it to the top, and how sometimes it's not as great as it's made out to be.
