Lance talks about today's pop and country music and why it sucks. He opines it's a filtering issue. There's just no filter on what flushes down the internet stream. There used to be record companies and radio and TV programmers standing guard. Though, all of them must have been asleep at the switch with Disco Duck, Muskrat Love, et al. Et al. is a legal term - Google it!If anyone, and he means anyone, can record at home, and dump their cough, cough, "craft" onto the net there's no one to say, Hell no. Not on my watch or with my ears. I.e. no filterEnjoy a not in stereo semi-rant. Maybe, Lance needs a filter, too.

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Toni Tennille, Pop Music Legend of Captain and Tennille, Stage Star About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Toni Tennille, is a popular music legend. She's a fabulous singer, songwriter and musician whose beautiful voice first took the world by storm in the seventies, in the musical duo “Captain and Tennille”. Their first big hit, “Love Will Keep Us Together”, was the number 1 song of 1975, and won a Grammy Award for Record of the Year. A quick succession of 14 mega-hits followed, including:“The Way I Want to Touch You”“Shop Around”“Do That To Me One More Time”“Lonely Night”“I'm On My Way”“Can't Stop Dancin'”“You Never Done it Like That”, and of course, “Muskrat Love”. In addition to her 9 studio albums as part of “Captain and Tennille”, our guest recorded 6 solo albums, including “More Than You Know”, “All of Me”, “Do It Again”, “Never Let Me Go”, “Things Are Swingin'”, and my all-time favourite, “Incurably Romantic”. She and her former husband, Daryl Dragon, hosted their own prime time TV variety show, as well as 3 television specials. And then, a few years later, she hosted her own daytime talk show. She's toured all over the country, singing the Great American Songbook with symphony orchestras. And in 1997, she starred in the highly acclaimed national tour of “Victor/Victoria”. She also wrote a deeply poignant, best selling book entitled, “Toni Tennille: A Memoir”, in which she candidly shares her emotional evolution and some very important life lessons. And now, she's preparing for the stage role of a LIFETIME. From November 3 to the 20th, she'll be starring in HELLO DOLLY at the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center in Prescott, Arizona. This is a woman whose voice brings warmth, emotion and accessibility to EVERY performance and EVERY song she sings. In this episode Jesse eagerly anticipates his high school reunion until an ex-girlfriend contacts him and Stephanie throws a birthday party for Comet to celebrate his 1st Birthday. Boy, oh boy do I unload on Jesse's ex-girlfriend Carrie in this episode. I can't stand her. After 10 years she's still not over Jesse and won't take no for an answer even when he tells her he's engaged. His bandmates don't help the situation at the reunion by encouraging Jesse to dance with her and play Jesse and Carrie's song "Muskrat Love". After Jesse walks out on Carrie at the reunion she follows him home, Um... stalker much? Danny offers some great advice to Jesse as in you need to be fair to Becky and take care of this Carrie situation before you and Becky walk down the aisle. I often wonder how Carrie would have reacted if Jesse had brought Becky to the reunion with him. No way would Becky have stood for Carrie hanging on Jesse the way she was. In the end Jesse chose correctly. Becky has more to offer and Carrie just couldn't let go of the past. Today's Guest: Toni Tennille, singer, The Captain and Tennille, author, Toni Tennille: A Memoir Watch this exclusive Mr. Media interview with Toni Tennille by clicking on the video player above! Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience full of pop stars who won’t believe that drug and alcohol abuse is not at the core of what went wrong with The Captain and Tennile… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! Toni Tennille: A Memoir is an okay title for the Alabama native’s life story, but once you read it to the end, you might agree with me that “Toni Tennille: Happy At Last” is more fitting. I cannot deny that I had low expectations as I began reading the autobiography of this singer who I always adored as a teen and held on to over the decades as a guilty pop pleasure. The glamour, the celebrity friends, parties, etc. – ho-hum, we’ve certainly heard it all before. But trust me, you haven’t heard this story. TONI TENNILLE podcast excerpt: "I cannot blame Daryl for the kind of man he is. He was raised quite differently from the way I was; he was raised in a family that was very dysfunctional. My dad was a binge drinker. But there was no doubt that he adored me and my sisters and that he loved my mom and my mother loved us as well.Daryl was raised in a family that had lots and lots of difficult issues. His father, Carmen Dragon, was an Academy Award-winning film scorer and symphony composer. He was 'The Maestro' -- a handsome, charismatic man. But when Daryl and I started to have some hits and Daryl's name got out there, I think (Carmen) might have been jealous of his own son. He would say say to people, 'Yeah, that's The Captain and Tennille. I'm The Admiral!' just so people knew he was bigger and better than Daryl was.” You can LISTEN to this interview with singer TONI TENNILLE, author of TONI TENNILLE: A MEMOIR, by clicking the audio player above! If, like me, you are old enough to remember The Captain and Tennille as a top of the charts recording and touring sensation, you’ll remember Toni Tennile’s soaring vocals, her Southern charm and her big as all-outdoors smile. As for The Captain – Daryl Dragon, the former keyboardist for The Beach Boys – what you’ll recall of him was that he rarely spoke while glowering at his wife and everyone else most of the rest of the time. He always wore a hat, eventually hiding behind sunglasses, too. I spent a lifetime thinking it was an act. Toni Tennille spent a lifetime wishing it was an act. TONI TENNILLE podcast excerpt: "I have to point out that it's 'Do THAT to Me One More Time.' It's not 'Do IT to Me One More Time'! That's why lyrics are important. It's 'Kiss me.' And 'Say that to me again' -- instead of what other people may think!" Turns out, The Captain was a miserable wretch of a human being and spent decades treating his wife like crap. Reading Toni Tennille: A Memoir is a soul-crushing experience; turning each page you’ll find yourself screaming, “Toni! Get away from that bastard!” But as anyone who has ever suffered emotional abuse at the hands of a spouse knows, it’s not always easy to make a clean break. I’m glad I read Toni Tennile: A Memoir; I’m even happier to know that the subject of the book is finally free. Key interview moments: • 4:40 Toni Tennille describes her rough road with former husband Daryl Dragon -- The Captain in The Captain and Tennille -- but refuses to blame him or play the victim. Instead she blames his father, Academy Award-winning composer Carmen Dragon; • 23:45 Why has Toni Tennille dedicated "Muskrat Love" to former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger at every performance still 1974?; • 37:25 Toni clears the air about the title and content of the song "Do That to Me One More Time."
