Who you have as a friend says a lot about who you are. We are the total of the five closest relationships in our life. Who are those people for you? Our friendships should be the relationships that we want to pour into us spiritually. True friends...

WHO’S GOT YOUR BACK? In today’s anti-law enforcement atmosphere, a police officer can be fired, charged with a crime, and basically be “thrown under the bus” by the very system he is trying to protect and serve. Our guest today is JIM FOTIS, a retired New York police officer who is now president of the National Center for Police Defense (NCPD). NCPD is a nonprofit organization that not only provides legal defense funding for police officers, but assists them with the financial burdens of being fired, forced to relocate their family for safety concerns, emotional issues, etc. JIM FOTIS can be reached at www.nationalcenterforpolicedefense.com Learn more about your ad choices. What You'll Hear: David Smith's wife led him to the Lord after he met her in a hospital when she was a nursing student An elderly gentleman on the North Side of Chicago got David his first job in a neighborhood feed store "Work is so essential and it's a gift from the Lord, and has a lot more to do than not just about money" David helps school systems find leaders and helps private institutions with their accreditations "I learned early on that learning was a gift and work was a gift" David was a history and social science teacher in high school in both Christian and public schools, and ended up as a public school superintendent In retirement he has kept busy in activities related to his career Living out his faith through work in education for David has included encouraging students There are voices for Christians now to withdraw "I want parents to have the resources to make the best choice for them" when it comes to educating their children "Guys tend to form alliances more than friendships, it's toxic in a lot of ways" "There should be some people in your life that you should be close to" "Biblical masculinity shows a warmth and lovingness" "You have to earn the right to be candid...if you're messing up someone who really cares about you is going to share with you" "A friend is a person with whom one can be sincere" - Ralph Waldo Emerson "It's the individuals we're close to that make life worth living" "A friend is one of the nicest things you can have and one of the best things you can be" "It's not about frequency" "The answer to 'who's got your back' is the one whose back you've got" "Are you a host or a guest" when you walk in a room? "I learn that when I listen to someone, not only am I learning, it shows respect" We have 4 communication skills, reading, writing, and speaking but we don't focus enough on listening "Women are more holistic, they look at the total person..women don't have these macho expectations, they're more attentive to the relationship...there's a covenant...that I value you and I care for you" Jefferson and Adams reached out to each other late in life to make amends, most guys don't do that "The concept of total independence leads to loneliness and sadness...and an earlier grave" Break 2: 41:04 Important elements of a friendship include listening, self-disclosure, compromise, loyalty The Bible is filled with wonderful stories of how people relate to each other and how we should do the same Male and female friendships tend to be male dominated, and often the man wants the friendship to end up in the bedroom Most friendships are with the same gender Get "Who's Got Your Back" on Amazon Contact sds894@yahoo.com
Who's got your back? Most men will simply answer, "no one." Not many men have close friends in the sense that women do. We're more likely to form alliances than we are friendships. It doesn't have to be this way. Who's Got Your Back? will motivate men to build satisfying relationships which will be there during the ups and downs of life. David Smith's new book, Who's Got Your Back? clearly presents the clarion call for men to be the kind of men modeled for us by Jesus. David shows us how we can be strong, task oriented, and achieving, but also warm-hearted and unmistakably relationship driven in the rough and tumble of everyday life. This good book brings into sharp focus a genuine and functional and real-life definition of manliness. David Smith has skillfully woven stories with practical application strategies into a narrative as to how we build and support trusting relationships. Did you know that alliances are many - written, unwritten, and some based on principle? However, not all of them are made equal or are to the benefit of a team or its constituents. Even rivals can leverage these undercurrents. There's a thing or two to learn from frogs and ants when it comes to working together or watching each other's back. The question is - Who's got your back?

An immense amount of pain has zapped my creative thought and deep thinking ability this week, so here's a quick rant about it. The moral is that you should have something ready "just in case" you find yourself in a rough situation. Maybe that's insurance, maybe that's a chunk of cash that you can use to replace...you, for a bit. Questions? Email me: Mpolicar@hightoweradvisors.com

Who’s got your back? Ever thought about it? Well…do you know? In the first topic of “Watch me, I am…” Zoë and Elizabeth explore what it means to be surrounding yourself with the right people. Whilst you can’t make someone support you, you are responsible for trusting your instincts and surrounding yourself with people who lift you up, who give you honest feedback, celebrate when you are winning, empathise when things aren’t so good and those who definitely have your back when you hit the wall. Motivating and inspiring you to get right back up and try again. Those 2am people, who will always be at the end of the phone, whatever the time of day and travel across the country to be there for you. Zoë and Elizabeth prompt you to start contemplating who you are surrounding yourself with in your work, business, personal life? What impact are those people having on your life, decisions you make, how you live your life? Your state of MIND? We dig into the pitfalls of not having the right people in your life, the right support network and where you can go to find them. Different people for different situations. Call them your crew, your tribe, your people. It’s time to consider, do you have the right people surrounding you?Do your tribe make you feel great, supported, uplifted and empowered?
We live in a world that has never been more connected to those around the world and yet, at the same time, more disconnected from those around us. With the world in the palm of our hands via the smartphones we carry, we often lose touch with those right in our vicinity. This has created an understanding that faith and relationship with Jesus is solely an individual thing. Yet throughout scripture we see how God has created us for relationship, to know others and be known. Join us Sunday as we explore what community can look like as we choose to live as apprentices of Jesus. Live stream at www.staactv.com.

When someone's got your back, you're more confident. Who's got your back? And who's back do you got?
In this episode, Blaine talks about the missing piece in most businesses that can determine success, failure, or even just the difference between mediocre results and skyrocketed results! The missing piece is accountability and its one of he big missing pieces in most appraisal businesses. The real estate and mortgage industries tend to have much higher levels of accountability since most Realtors and Lenders work in offices with managers, other Realtors, and their brokers or owners. Appraisers tend to be one and two person home offices with little to no accountability for their daily activities, their monthly targets, their profit goals (if they even have any), their marketing needs, and their daily productivity and efficiency. Most appraisers simply 'do' when it comes to appraising with nobody holding them accountable. Blaine strongly recommends finding an 'accountability partner' to help you move toward the goals and plans every appraiser should have to be more profitable with less time in the office.

Who's Got Your Back? ...Jesus Does!
Download the episode I got a call this morning from a former coaching client. Two years ago when I was working with Jerry he expressed interest in writing a book, which I enthusiastically encouraged he pursue. Two years later hes made significant progress and now had questions about the publishing process. In roughly 20 minutes I happily downloaded lessons that were learned since I published my first book 8 years ago.{loadposition content_amazonGotYourBack}Why do I share this story? What if Jerry hadn't surrounded himself with someone who cared enough to help him out? I don't want to over-state the value of my advice for certainly there are plenty of websites and services that have information that could help him achieve his goal. Yet there's something even more powerful about having close access to a circle of people you trust, who you know care about your success, and are eager to help you achieve it.Jerry has that in me. Who do you have in your inner circle or your "Go To Group" (a term I introduce in my keynote on relationships called The Dirty Little Secret of Business)?Who we surround ourselves with is critical, and it's an important lesson in Keith Ferrazzi's new book Who's Got Your Back: The Breakthrough Program to Build Deep, Trusting Relationships That Create Success--and Won't Let You Fail. I first heard of Keith when he wrote the best seller Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time back in 2005.I have to say this upfront: If you lead projects and teams, chances are your success depends far more than you realize on the relationships you build. Download the episode As you start this new year, let me ask you a personal question: How satisfied are you with your financial situation? Though it doesn't seem like a question for a podcast on leadership and project management, here's what I've found: there are seemingly endless resources available on the internet to learn more about managing your finances. Yet I find that many of my coaching clients--once I get to know them well enough--confess that financial stress is something they deal with, particularly in this economy.Since work/life balance is an important objective for all who desire to lead people and projects, I wanted to invest a cast on the topic of our personal finances. The start of a year is often a great time to reboot old habits to start fresh with new ones. When it comes to financial advice I turn to my friend, author, and personal finance expert Matt Bell. I had the opportunity to talk with Matt recently and look forward to sharing the interview with you in this cast. To learn more about Matt, check out his website at http://www.mattaboutmoney.com/. Also, don't miss the sites Matt mentions in this cast, including Mint.com, Fidelity's MyPlan Snapshot , Ask.com/deals, and ebates.com.Hey, quick question: How are YOU doing on your new year's resolutions? We're far enough into the new year that, at least statistically, many of them will have fallen off the radar screen. But they don't have to.If you haven't yet heard my interview with Jordan Goldberg, CEO of StickK.com, make sure to check it out. Jordan's site has helped me reach my new year's weight loss goal in far less time than I planned. You might just find a way to use their site to achieve some financial related goals this year as well! Please join me in our next podcast when I interview Keith Ferrazzi, author of the bestseller Never Eat Alone and his new book Who's Got Your Back.
