When you jump into the world of carbon 60 (C60), you quickly become hooked because of its many health benefits and positive impact on mitochondrial function; however, the proverbial hook, line and sinker that perks up people's ears are its profound potential for longevity. Look no further than my previous discussion with C60 manufacturer and leading expert, Chris Burres, where he details the unprecedented longevity research results where rats lived 90% longer when consuming C60 mixed in olive oil!If you're like me, you look for high-quality information on such an exciting topic  —  particularly well written books. Long story short, there is a dearth of texts on C60 out there. But today's guest, Chris Campbell, is the author of one of those books: C60 Science: The God Molecule Hypothesis. And it's not just "another" book, Chris's take on C60 is very unique, yet exceptionally compelling. In his book, he takes deep rabbit holes into the history of C60 not just on earth, but in outer space where he posits C60 may have played a role in brining life to our planet. He also has unique insights into the special geometry of buckminsterfullerene (i.e., C60) and its potential quantum biology characteristics. During today's conversation, Chris discusses the many topics from his book, including what The God Molecule Hypothesis means, the various properties and potentials of C60, his thoughts on C60 supplements, the potential of safely integrating C60 into water and much more!If you found the information in today's episode with Chris Campbell particularly interesting and/or compelling, please share it with a family member, friend, colleague and/or anyone that you think could benefit and be illuminated by this knowledge. 1980 - February: Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band "Against the Wind"

What the Riff?!?

If you're looking for great Heartland Rock, a great choice would be the album Against the Wind.  Depending on how you count it, it could be considered Bob Seger's eleventh studio album, but it is the third album of the iteration known as Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band.  Seger is joined by Drew Abbott on guitar, Chris Campbell on bass, and David Teegarden on drums.  The band became the Silver Bullet Band a bit by accident.  They were arguing about what to call themselves, and the manager got tired of it.  When they got paid the manager wrote the name "Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band" on the paycheck and the name stuck.  Against the Wind was an immediate success.  It went to number 2 on the Billboard 200 charts in its third week, and it sat there for 5 weeks, kepts out of the top slot by Pink Floyd's monster hit album, "The Wall."  Finally, it topped "The Wall" to take the number 1 slot and remained there for six weeks, making it Bob Seger's most successful album in his career. There are a number of well known hits on this album, and an excellent collection of musicians as well.  In addition to the Silver Bullet Band, Seger makes use of session musicians out of Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, and is joined by backing vocals from members of the Eagles as well.Seger retired at the end of 2019, but he performed in 2023 at Patty Loveless's induction in to the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, so we hold out hope that there will be some occasional performances still to come.Bruce presents this folksy heartland singer songwriter for this week's podcast.. Her StrutWhile not released as a single, this song received some airplau as the B-side to "The Horizontal Bop."  Seger has been criticized for his adolescent humor in this song, but he claims that the inspiration for it was feminist activist Jane Fonda and her appearance before the Campaign for Economic Democracies.Against the WindBob Seger has written a number of songs about looking back on life, and the title track is an example of this.  Seger was a cross country runner in high school, and he uses running as a metaphor for growing old.  This song went to number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, and he is joined by his friend and Eagles alumnus Glenn Frey for backing vocals.Fire LakeThis track is about taking risks, risking love, and just heading off with a bunch of wild people.  Seger recorded this one at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios.  If the backing vocals sounds a lot like the Eagles, there is a reason for it - those backing vocalists are Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Timothy B. Schmit.  You'll Accomp'ny MeThis ballad is a little more country, with lyrics that basically say, "look, you may be playing the field now, but we both know in the end we'll be together."  Little Feat co-founder Bill Payne joins Seger on this track to provide organ, synth, and piano parts.  It hit number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Sleepless Nights by Gram Parsons (from the motion picture "Cruising")Al Pacino starred in this crime thriller about a serial killer targeting gay men.   STAFF PICKS:I Like to Rock by April WineWayne rocks out to start the staff picks with this Canadian band.  April Wine formed in 1969, and have released over 20 albums.  This song may be time stamped in the early 80's but it rocks out, and you can't beat lyrics like, "journey to the stars, Rock N Roll guitars!" Take the Long Way Home by SupertrampRob brings us one of the hits off Supertramp's multi-platinum album, "Breakfast in America."  The lyrics to this one depict a couple growing apart as the husband starts staying away from home due to feeling like he's being ignored.  It can also be a reflection of missed opportunities to live in alignment with your heart, and not being at peace with yourself.Rock With You by Michael JacksonLynch features a hit from MJ's disco album, "Off the Wall."  Original lyrics were a bit more suggestive, but these were toned down to fit Jackson's wholesome image at the time.  Rod Temperton wrote "Rock with You" as his first song for Jackson, setting the stage for more collaborations, including the iconic "Thriller." I Wanna Be Your Lover by PrinceBruce's staff pick is the lead single from Prince's self-titled second album, and his first major hit, reaching number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1980.  Prince performs lead and backing vocals, and plays all instruments on this hit.  The end of the track includes an extended instrumental jam which is edited out for the single. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Give It All You Got by Chuck Mangioni Flugelhorn player Mangioni wrote this song for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.   Thanks for listening to “What the Riff?!?” NOTE: To adjust the loudness of the music or voices, you may adjust the balance on your device. It seems that methylene blue (MB) has continued to capture the attention on those looking to optimize mitochondrial health — and for good reason. After all, it may be one of the easiest and fastest way to improve mitochondrial function. But remember that third pillar of The Mitochondrial Triad? Yeah, that C60 thing... Perhaps it hasn't gotten as much love on this podcast and/or may be even lesser known than MB. But trust me when I say that C60 is second place to no one when it comes to optimizing cellular energy and mitochondrial function, which, ultimately leads to efficient energy and biological water production. In today's episode, I want to take a deeper dive into C60 and discuss the science of how it can contribute to mitigating diseases while also markedly boosting healthspan and longevity. For that, we'll be reviewing some of Chris Campbell's book, C60 Science: The God Molecule Hypothesis. Quite the book title, right? But the theory posited by Chris it quite intriguing. Needless to say, after this discussion you will see why C60 earned its spot in The Mitochondrial Triad and should be highly considered for anyone that has a mitochondrion in their body. For the red light therapy side of things, I review an ahead of print photobiomodulation research article (it doesn't get officially published until June!) that looks at treating the gut and brain to help reduce chronic stress. The study produced positive results, including: "combined non-invasive photobiomodulation partially restores some gut microbiota dysbiosis induced by chronic stress." Combine this with the vagus nerve treatment via RLT that we learned last week from Abe and we have another triad — this one being a triad of RLT locations to help reduce stress. Non-invasive and non-pharmacological. What's not to like! If you found the information in today's episode particularly interesting and/or compelling, please share it with a family member, friend, colleague and/or anyone that you think could benefit and be illuminated by this knowledge. Our host, Andy Peavyhouse, recalls how, since starting this podcast, it has been a constant reminder of the power hymns have played in his journey of faith. He remembers how each hymn paints another picture of his walk with Christ and how hymns can be the cornerstone of our faith journey. One hymn that paints quite a vivid picture of Christ's triumphant victory through his finished work on the cross is Thomas Kelly's "Look Ye Saints, the Sight is Glorious." It unfolds in a symphony of poetic majesty. Each verse is a brushstroke of truth, painting the ultimate victory of Christ. We'll explore the richness of this hymn, as we dive into its authorship, history, and theology. This episode is a heartfelt tribute to hymnody's ability to capture the soul's deepest cries and loftiest praises, to strike that tender chord within us that resonates with God's truth.  We'll see how this hymn echoes Scripture, inviting us all to acknowledge Jesus as the Lamb who was slain and now reigns victorious. Join us, as we honor the Lenten and Easter seasons by amplifying the joyous acclamation of Christ's triumph, encouraging listeners to reclaim the hymns that have shaped our faith, and to carry their powerful messages of truth to a lost and dying world.SHOW CREDITS AND LINKS:Andrew Peterson's “Is He Worthy?” Red Mountain Church Music Red Mountain Hymn Collective "Crown Him" Taken from This Breaks My Heart of Stone: A Collection of Hymns from Red Mountain Church Download the entire Red Mountain Music catalogue of songs in one PDF Songbook (does not include hymns from Silent Night, Demos & B-sides). Chris Campbell has 12 credit cards – more than even fit in his wallet! Lauren asked about the difference between rewards, cash back, and travel points. Chris is a big fan of travel rewards credit cards because you basically get a better return on your spending, more than you'd get with cash back, up to 3x times more! According to Chris, you can routinely get 6% back rather than the normal 1-1.5% cash back. Chris is partial to the Chase Sapphire credit card. If you combine rewards with loyalty programs, such as at Hyatt, and you're really cooking with fire. Some cards have sign up bonuses. They also sometimes have special categories with extra points, so for example you might have a card you prefer to use for gas. There are communities online to help you understand these nuances. High-end card have annual fees, but their benefits often outweigh those. Award wallet is one way you can track your rewards. Also, using your online logins. Lauren and Chris also discuss credit scores and the impact having credit cards has. Huge reminder: paying ANY INTEREST AT ALL means the rewards are not at all worth it! What does Chris do with extra points? Hotel upgrades! Finally, Lauren asked Chris about business credit cards. Our interview today was a special one—we didn't just talk to one guest; we talked to three! Dan sat down with Chris Campbell and James and Melissa Presley to discuss getting the Freedom message to younger generations. Chris Campbell is founder and president of Resolutions Counseling and originally founded and directed Generation Freedom, the youth arm of Freedom in Christ. James and Mellisa Pressley have worked with youth for over 20 years and head up GenFree, which is what Generation Freedom is now called.   Chris, Mellisa and James start off talking about what first led them to get involved working with youth. From there, we cover a wide variety of topics. We talk about everything from the history of Generation Freedom (now GenFree), general characteristics of Gen Z, the new vision of GenFree, how to incorporate Freedom in Christ principles and practices into working with youth, and what makes GenFree curriculum different than other youth curriculum. Mellissa, the Director of GenFree, expresses the heart of GenFree: for young people to be shaped from the inside out, not from the outside in. visit acedoutpodcast.com to see photos and moreWhen DAWN SILVA – (Brides of Funkenstein, P-Funk, GAP Band, All My funky Friends] – shopped her autobiography, The FUNK QUEEN to book publishers, they didn't exactly grasp the entire vision. “Everybody said the same thing,” she says. “‘You can't do it.'” This is because the OG funkateer had created something you don't see on shelves every day. “Mine is not only a table book with classic photos,” she explains. “It also has an autobiography, and there‘s about maybe five books within that one book.” Gathering the photos was a tale unto itself, starting with a man by the name of Steve Labelle, an ex-police officer turned photographer who traveled with Parliament Funkadelic from 1976 to 1981. “He was a fanatic,” she recalls. “So he went out on the road with us for all those years and he took all these photos… His health took a turn for the worse and he had been sitting on those photos for about 30 years… So he asked me to make him a promise that, if he sent those photos to me to me, I would put them in my book.” So she raised the capital and had it manufactured herself—a seven pound (!) hardcover masterpiece in the form of a beautifully printed, glossy package containing over 500 pages of rich funk history, way more than knee deep with amazing and tragic tales, as well as brushes with funk and soul greatness that will inspire ladies young and old while imbuing the fellas with a greater respective for Dawn's legacy. And just like everything else in her storied career, she had done exactly what the powers that be had said she couldn't do. “I took a chance because everyone said I couldn't do it and it wouldn't work,” she confirms. “And it's working.” Taking chances is what made Dawn a professional singer in the first place. As a young lady, her first major singing gig was as a member of a latterday version of Sly & the Family Stone. Then she jumped ship—mothership that is—and, along with other funk queens whom Dawn calls “thoroughbreds”—she appeared across all P-Funk platforms, from Parliament's Motor Booty Affair and Funkentelechy vs the Placebo Syndrome, to Funkadelic's One Nation Under Groove and Uncle Jam Wants You. Her voice can also be heard all over such essential, stanky classics as Eddie Hazel's beloved solo album Game, Dames & Guitar Thangs, and the Sweat Band and Horny Horns albums. Even more importantly, she took center stage to co-lead the BRIDES OF FUNKENSTEIN, whose funktastic albums Funk or Walk and Never Buy Texas from a Cowboy are still much admired today. Dawn did eventually break away, however, recording and touring with artists such as Ice Cube, Roy Ayers, the GAP Band, and even the Platters. But her best work was not behind her. She decided to put the album out herself on her own independent label. She also expanded her reach by being an early adopter of online forums—where a million plus fans could follow her directly—and entered into indie licensing deals in places like Holland, Germany, France, Japan, China, Thailand, and Sierra Leone. “I ended up selling over a quarter of a million CDs out of my kitchen,” she says, “from a ‘dead' market, supposedly.” If all that weren't impressive enough for a woman in funk, her promotional activity overseas led to a headlining gig (!) at the mammoth North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands alongside Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock, and the Yellowjackets. And by the way: Funky Friends is still selling today. “I proved to the naysayers, to corporate record companies in the states that here was a very viable market for the funk,” Dawn surmises proudly. “Actually, it's even bigger today than it was then. That's why I continue on.” In this thoughtful, revealing, and illuminating interview, Dawn promotes the legacy of other fem funk legends, from Malia Franklin to Gail Muldrow, and how they were instrumental in pushing P-Funk to the top of the heap despite not getting the recognition they are still due. She also reveals how the Sly Stone Fam paid more and was better organized than the Clinton camp, and recalls how the late, great Glenn Goins taught her to sing funky lyrics with character. On top of all that, Dawn discusses why her friend James Baker's New Birth was one of the most influential self-contained Black bands in funk history, exciting news about her plans to finally put out certain unreleased material, and the importance of her African-Indigenous-European lineage.Produced & Hosted by Ace AlanExecutive Producer Scott Sheppardw/ Content Produced by Dawn SilvaWebsite & Graphics by 3chards Recorded & Filmed @Different Fur Studios, San FranciscoEngineered by Grace Coleman Video shot by Cedric Letsch w/ Jarrett Rogers Video & Sound Editing + Graphics by Nick “WAES” Carden for Off Hand Records, OaklandIntro song “Inertia” by Ace Alan (feat. Breaking Battlegrounds

This week on Breaking Battlegrounds, we are honored to be joined by three distinguished guests. First, we sit down with Senator Ted Cruz to discuss the recent political attacks on the Supreme Court and what conservatives can do about woke corporations. Later in the show, General Sami Sadat of Afghanistan calls in for a no holds barred conversation of the United States' withdrawal from his country. Finally, friend of the show Chris Campbell returns with an update on the negotiations over raising the debt ceiling. -Ted Cruz grew up in Texas. His father, Rafael, fled Cuba after being tortured and imprisoned and came to Texas with just $100 sewn into his underwear. Rafael got a job washing dishes making 50 cents an hour and learned English. He worked hard and attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a degree in mathematics. He later started a small business in the oil and gas industry. Today, Rafael is a pastor in Dallas.Ted's mother, Eleanor, was born in Delaware to an Irish and Italian working-class family. She became the first in her family to go to college, graduating from Rice University with a degree in mathematics. She broke boundaries at Shell as one of the few women working as a computer programmer at the dawn of the computer age.Ted earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton and his law degree from Harvard Law School. After law school, Ted clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist and then worked in private practice. In 1999, Ted joined George W. Bush's campaign for president as a domestic policy advisor. The best thing about Ted's experience on the Bush-Cheney campaign, by far, was meeting Heidi Nelson, who also worked on the policy team. Heidi and Ted married after the campaign. After working at the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission during the Bush administration, Ted moved back home to be the Solicitor General of Texas. As Solicitor General, Ted argued eight cases before the Supreme Court of the United States, and defended our freedom of speech, our right to keep and bear arms, and our religious liberty in courts across the nation. Following his service as Solicitor General, Ted returned to private practice, where he continued to litigate high stakes cases and argued his ninth case before the Supreme Court.Ted and Heidi also started their family, welcoming Caroline and Catherine.-General Sami Sadat was born 1986 in Afghanistan. After graduation from school in Kabul, he studied military information operations in NATO school in Germany, he also holds a BBA, he then studied advance command and staff college in UK defense Academy and was graduated with highest distinction and also has finished his MA in Strategic Management and Leadership from UK Charter Management institute. His work experience is mostly visible in security sector, he worked as Deputy Director for Strategic Communications and as Policy Advisor to the Minister of Interior in Afghanistan. Mr. Sadat is a founding member of Afghanistan Analysis and Awareness (A3) a Kabul based Think-tank. A3 is a strong lobby group focusing on Afghan-US and other Afghanistan friend countries to foster better strategic relations.-Prior to Kroll, Chris was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Institutions from 2017 to 2018. Hatch, where he coordinated and managed the senator's legislative activities.Immediately prior to rejoining Senator Hatch's staff, Chris owned a business consulting firm that specialized in business strategy for clients from all-sized companies across the country, and from a variety of industries.Chris is a director of Intrado, Coinstar, WeConnect Health Management, tZERO, and a board advisor at Cross River Bank.
