In this episode, Griffin Hamilton speaks with William Gordon, Regional Business Coach at 1-800-WaterDamage, who brings over 40 years of experience in property restoration. The conversation focuses on how facilities teams can better prepare for emergencies, respond effectively when disaster strikes, and recover faster, whether the incident affects a single building or an entire region.Key Takeaways:Preparation matters more than the plan itself. You can't predict every scenario, but thinking ahead and documenting response steps dramatically reduces damage and confusion.Document critical information and make it accessible. Water shutoffs, emergency contacts, and vendor info should be easy to find and available to every shift, not just one person.Have a trusted restoration partner before you need one. Restoration vendors deal with these situations daily and bring experience, resources, and vendor relationships you don't want to scramble for mid-crisis.Speed and clear communication reduce impact. Calling for help early, designating a single point of contact, and coordinating updates across stakeholders prevents chaos and delays.Regional disasters require a different mindset. In hurricanes, fires, or earthquakes, infrastructure and supply shortages change priorities, preexisting relationships help your building get back online faster. This episode is a practical guide for facilities leaders looking to minimize risk, protect occupants, and recover quickly when emergencies inevitably occur.

We're breaking down the ins and outs of handling water disasters—because let's face it, no one wants their home to turn into a water park! They dive deep into the murky waters of what to do when disaster strikes, discussing everything from the sudden failure of washing machine hoses to the insidious creep of mold. William, with his 42 years of experience, lays down some serious wisdom about the evolution of water damage restoration technology. Gone are the days of just throwing a fan at a wet carpet and calling it a day; now it's all about high-tech drying equipment and professional assessments. The hosts and William explore the importance of acting fast—like, really fast—because every second counts in preventing mold growth and escalating repair costs. They also tackle the awkward but necessary conversation about insurance, shedding light on what homeowners should know about their coverage, and how to navigate the claims process without losing their minds (or their homes). Spoiler alert: if you think your insurance will cover everything, you might want to sit down for this one. The conversation shifts gears as the trio reminisces about the absurdities of life as a homeowner. From the ridiculousness of insurance adjusters to the hilarious mishaps that lead to water damage—like a rogue ice maker flooding the kitchen—there's no shortage of humor in the face of chaos. William shares stories that will make you laugh and cringe, reminding us that while water damage is a serious issue, sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and find the humor in it. Listen closely, and you might just pick up a few tips on preventing those ‘oops' moments that could turn your cozy abode into a waterlogged nightmare. So, grab your floaties and tune in, because this episode is a splash of knowledge you won't want to miss!Takeaways:Water damage isn't just a minor inconvenience; it can lead to serious mold problems if not handled immediately. If you think your insurance covers all water damage, think again; read the fine print or risk a hefty bill later. The technology for assessing and restoring water damage has drastically improved over the past few decades, making it easier to handle issues.Ignoring small leaks can lead to catastrophic failures, so stay on top of your home maintenance, folks!Mold is not something you want to mess with; it can exacerbate health issues, so take it seriously!Don't wait days to address water damage; a delayed response can lead to more extensive and expensive repairs later on.Links referenced in this episode:

fWotD Episode 2998: Sir William Gordon-Cumming, 4th Baronet Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Sunday, 20 July 2025, is Sir William Gordon-Cumming, 4th Baronet.Lieutenant-Colonel Sir William Alexander Gordon Gordon-Cumming, 4th Baronet (20 July 1848 – 20 May 1930), was a Scottish landowner, soldier, socialite and a notorious womaniser. He was the central figure in the royal baccarat scandal of 1891. After inheriting a baronetcy he joined the British Army in 1868 and saw service in South Africa, Egypt and the Sudan; he served with distinction and rose to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Something of an adventurer, he also spent time hunting in the US and India.A friend of Edward, Prince of Wales, for over 20 years, in 1890 he attended a house party at Tranby Croft in the East Riding of Yorkshire, where he took part in a game of baccarat at the behest of the prince. During the course of two nights' play he was accused of cheating, which he denied vehemently. After news of the affair leaked out, he sued five members of the party for slander; the Prince of Wales was called as a witness. The case was a public spectacle, widely reported in the UK and abroad, but the verdict went against Gordon-Cumming and he was ostracised from polite society.A handsome, arrogant man, Gordon-Cumming was a philanderer, particularly with married women. After the court case he married Florence Garner, an American heiress; the couple had five children, but their relationship was unhappy. He was the grandfather of the writers Katie Fforde and Jane Gordon-Cumming.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:43 UTC on Sunday, 20 July 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Sir William Gordon-Cumming, 4th Baronet on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Joanna.

The Heavenly Father is God over us; Jesus Christ is God who walks alongside us, and the Holy Spirit is God who comes and dwells inside us. The Holy Spirit is God's and Jesus's Spirit. How unfortunate that He is a stranger to most Christians. We need to take the time to get to know Him. He is a wonderful person who desires to know us intimately, but He will come into our lives only upon invitation. "We are supposed to be infatuated with the Holy Spirit because He makes us infatuated with the Father and with Jesus Christ." - William Gordon
Join us in Bangkok for the Extraordinary Travel Festival in November of 2024. Please use code – BANGKOK – to save $100. . I believe there are 3 main pillars of why you might want to consider attending the ETF, this November in Bangkok. First is the destination. Maybe BKK might seem too common. Well as a resident I would posit that this city offers so much beyond the Grand Palace, the Skybar and riding a tuktuk. This is a true onion, you can keep peeling back more and more layers and keep on exploring. Maybe you are missing some NM regions in thailand, maybe a funicular or the new UNESCO site, Si Thep. Or you missed Laos or Brunei on your last visit. There are cheap flights to everywhere in ASEASN. Or maybe catch a direct flight to Bangladesh, Bhutan or Kazakhstan. There is so much to see here! Second, is the content. We have an incredible lineup of speakers. More will be announced. Please take a moment to look at the speakers on the ETF website. Everyone from Thor Pedersen who went to every country without flying, or Renee Bruns who has explored over 130 countries in a wheelchair, or the Sultan Randy Williams, who invented his own country. And last up, is the community, the network of extreme travelers whether you are chasing 193 or maybe enjoy Iraq more than Italy. Then you have found your tribe. So think of Bangkok as the hub for the event. A hub with great infrastructure at great prices. The spokes are everywhere in Thailand or the region you can visit easily. Don't get FOMO, come join the 150 plus who have already committed. And how many more will sign up in the next 6 months. Should be a lot of people! Feel free to go to the website, use code BANGKOK to save $100, and join us in Krung Thep this November. If you have questions, reach out to me on SM, contact form on the website, or anywhere else. Before I introduce my guest, a name from the past has reappeared. William Simon Baekeland aka Jesse Simon Gordon aka William Gordon. Maybe you do not know the back story. William appeared on the scene years ago, a young, extremely well-traveled individual and the descendent of a billion-dollar fortune. William won over some of the most experienced travelers and began to organize challenging trips for them. In fact, I interviewed him for this . Some of these trips took place, others didn't, and refunds were scarce. Harry Mitsisdis after a canceled trip put on his detective hat, and deduced that William Baekeland was really Jesse Simon Gordon from Birmingham, a product of limited means. In short order, it was revealed that William/Jesse allegedly had fleeced over $800,000 from the travel community. And I hosted another podcast , where several guests shared their experiences. William/Simon then appeared to go dark … until now. This episode was recorded a couple of weeks before the publication, so there will likely be more up to date news. But it was discovered that William has relocated to Pitcairn Island and was working in some fashion for the government. I was totally flabbergasted by this discovery. Really. William was hiding out in the most remote place in the world where he was most likely to be discovered. I am sure we will learn a lot more in the future. First up is Marc Jorgensen, a traveler who recently passed his 100th country. Marc has lived and worked in Brazil and also speaks Portuguese. Marc and I discuss our joint southern African roadtrip. Next up is Dima Zemsky. Dima emigrated to the US from Ukraine as a teenager to start a new life in the states. Dima is a member of the points community, and the spark of his travels began with a round the world trip. And last, I speak with Matt Keffer. Matt has leveraged his career and his business trips around the world into country counting. He also was a working expat for three years in Germany. With that in mind, I want to introduce three members of the community, three people who are coming to Bangkok, on this special episode. Meet the attendee! Please meet Marc Jorgenson, Dima Zemsky, and Matt Keffer. Please listen in and enjoy

More oral history than a typical podcast episode. Mankamyer was a real estate broker and youth soccer volunteer in Colorado who rose through the ranks of U.S. Soccer governance in the 1980s and was a key actor in promoting girls' youth soccer, the creation of a women's national team, and the addition of women's soccer as an Olympic sport in Atlanta in 1996. Last summer, an unexplained phenomenon gripped nightly newscasts and Facebook groups across America: Unsolicited deliveries of obscurely labeled seed packages, seemingly from China, were being sent to Americans' homes. Recipients reported the packages to local police, news stations, and agriculture departments; searched message boards for explanations; and theorized about conspiracies including election interference and biowarfare. Despite large-scale USDA testing of the packages, the mystery remained: Who sent the seeds and why? This week on The Experiment podcast, the host Julia Longoria speaks with the writer Chris Heath about his investigation of mystery seeds for The Atlantic, the byzantine world of international e-commerce, and the dangers of both panic and reason. Further reading: “The Truth Behind the Amazon Mystery Seeds.” This article is part of “Shadowland,” a project about conspiracy thinking in America. A transcript of this episode will soon be made available. Be part of The Experiment. As #TheExperimentPodcast keeps growing, we're looking for new ways to tell stories and better serve our listeners. Please visit theatlantic.com/experimentsurvey to share your thoughts with The Atlantic and WNYC Studios. Use the hashtag #TheExperimentPodcast, or write to us at theexperiment@theatlantic.com. All right, welcome back. Imagine a world where patients can access their medical records anytime, anywhere with immutable security. Imagine every instance along a patient's continuum of care recorded and easily searchable. Imagine the opportunity to meta search millions of health records and data points, and even outcomes, without compromising an individual patient's personal identity. Imagine patients using these resources to evaluate and choose their hospitals, and even you. Folks, this isn't science fiction or wishful thinking. It's a technology called block-chain and if you've heard of bitcoin, you've heard of block-chain. Today we have Dr. William Gordon with us to unpack this technology and help us separate the hype from the real (and very exciting) promise. While in Medical School at Cornell, Will also had a side gig as a software developer. Will became involved with several technology start ups, including serving as director of clinical products at one after residency. Today Will is a clinical informatics fellow at Partners Healthcare while also serving as a hospitalist at Mass General, and clinical instructor with Harvard Medical College. His research and recent papers focus on Blockchain and the unique promise it holds for medicine. Obviously, with his background, Will is uniquely qualified to help us explore this exciting new technology. With that said let's get started...
