Scotland Yard cannot be involved, for fear of public disclosure. MN Justice Barry Anderson speak with Wilfrid Prest, Emeritus Professor and Visiting Research Fellow in History and Law at the University of Adelaide in Australia, and biographer of Sir William Blackstone, among the most influential figures in the history of English common law. Prof. Prest discusses Blackstone's formative years in mid-18th-century London and at Pembroke College, Oxford, where a classical education, Enlightenment thought, and legal scholarship shaped his intellectual path. He describes Blackstone's early legal and academic career, including his role as the first Vinerian Professor of English Law and author of An Analysis of the Laws of England. Prest explores how Blackstone's Commentaries on the Laws of England brought clarity and coherence to England's centuries old legal tradition, drawing from foundational documents like Magna Carta and formative figures such as Bracton, Fortescue, and Coke. He examines the Commentaries' lasting impact on American Founding Fathers, including both admirers like Alexander Hamilton and Chief Justice John Marshall and critics like Thomas Jefferson. Prest concludes with reflections on Blackstone's enduring legacy in promoting the rule of law and legal education worldwide. In closing, Prof. Prest reads a passage from his book, William Blackstone: Law and Letters in the Eighteenth Century.

Kids can take it. You can coddle them. You can protect them with everything you have, but life is not simply coming for them; it already has them. Last year, Armored, the spectacularly spooky adventure story from writer Michael Schwartz and artist Ismael Hernandez, struck a deep emotional chord in us. The series seemingly came out of nowhere and walloped us with a powerfully relatable ghost story about family, loss, and perseverance. We gave it the Stampie for Best Surprise Comic, and the more times we re-read it, the more comfortable we are with that declaration. Armored traffics in recognizable tropes, but executes them perfectly through a singular vision. At the story's core is Andy, a child forced into the foster system after his parents mysteriously vanish. He's planted in a home dealing with its own awful tragedy, which propels him into a confrontation with a haunted suit of armor. With the ghostly Sir William by his side, Andy seeks to solve the disappearance of his folks while stumbling into battle with ancient evil. Having devoured the single issues from Clover Press, we patiently awaited word of a proper hardcover collection. Friends, we're ecstatic to be the first to tell you this: the Armored hardcover is almost here, and its Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page is already up and running (CLICK HERE AND GET NOTIFIED). Not only that, but we also have the first look at the new Armored hardcover collection artwork by artist Francesco Tomaselli. Please bask in its beauty while you listen to this week's podcast with author Michael Schwartz discussing Armored, how the theft of his comic book collection only intensified his comic book addiction, and why kids need stories with emotionally dark realities. Armored is published by Clover Press, written by Michael Schwartz, illustrated by Ismael Hernandez, lettered by Ferran Delgado, and edited by Chris Stevens. They Return at Evening: A Book of Ghost Stories). Click here to try it out!Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review! Today, we're gearing up for an epic journey through chivalry and valor as we count down our Top 5 Knights in film and television. After that, we'll delve into the mystical and mysterious world of The Green Knight and switch gears for some light-hearted adventures with Mike the Knight.Top 5 Knights in Film and Television:Sir Lancelot in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (1975) - This comedic take on the legendary knight mixes absurdity with classic Arthurian elements, making Sir Lancelot both heroic and hilariously oblivious.Aragorn in "The Lord of the Rings" series - While not a knight in the traditional sense, Aragorn embodies the knightly virtues of bravery, loyalty, and leadership, playing a crucial role in Middle-earth's battles against evil.Sir William Thatcher in "A Knight's Tale" (2001) - Portrayed by Heath Ledger, Sir William's journey from peasant to pseudo-knight captures the spirit of chivalry and the pursuit of honor and recognition within the rigid class systems of medieval society. The Black Knight in "Excalibur" (1981) - A mysterious and formidable figure, the Black Knight in this retelling of the Arthurian legends represents the darker aspects of knighthood and chivalry, providing a stark contrast to more idealistic portrayals.Brienne of Tarth in "Game of Thrones" (TV Series) - Brienne challenges traditional gender roles within the knightly order, proving herself through unmatched bravery and a firm moral compass, making her one of the most respected and memorable knights in modern television. The Green Knight (2021) Directed by David Lowery, The Green Knight presents a visually stunning and thematically rich adaptation of the Arthurian legend, "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight." The film follows Gawain, played by Dev Patel, on a perilous quest that explores themes of honor, bravery, and the nature of true heroism. The movie's slow-burning narrative and atmospheric tension set it apart from traditional knightly tales, offering a fresh take on the complexities of personal growth and virtue.Switching to a much lighter tone, Mike the Knight is a delightful animated series that introduces younger audiences to a fantastical medieval world. Mike, a young knight-in-training, embarks on adventures that teach him about responsibility, problem-solving, and the importance of being kind. It's a great way to introduce the concepts of knighthood and chivalry to kids in an engaging and educational manner.Whether you're in the mood for a profound cinematic experience with The Green Knight or looking for family-friendly fun with Mike the Knight, today's episode promises a thrilling exploration of what it means to be a knight in both lore and life. Join us as we don the armor of analysis and venture forth into the realm of knights and nobility.

In this episode, we engage with the socially amiable Sir William Lucas and his family, who live in all their knightly pride and ample entitlement at Lucas Lodge. Despite the pomp, there is an understated charm to Sir William, a product of humility gently carved by his past as a tradesman. His family forms a pleasant foil to our Bennets, with a particular focus on the Lucases' eldest daughter Charlotte, a sensible friend and confidante for Elizabeth Bennet. There is much talk about a recently held ball with the central topic being perhaps the most deciding factor of our story, Mr. Bingley's preference of Jane Bennet. The nuances of Mr. Bingley and Jane Bennet's budding affection are speculated and scrutinised, with the notably infamous Mr. Darcy, despite his disregard for social pleasantries, begins to trickle into the canvas of our primary concern. The initial impressions and opinions regarding the family of Netherfield give way to deeper interactions and recurring visits. Bingley's admiration for the eldest Bennet becomes increasingly obvious, though not to the eyes of society at large - Jane's strength of feeling and composed manner skilfully disguises her burgeoning affections. We are also privy to a rather candid discussion between Elizabeth and Charlotte concerning the strengths and pitfalls of concealing one's affections in the game of love and courtship. Little do they suspect the unexpected turn of events they are about to encounter. For, indeed, Elizabeth unknowingly begins to occupy a corner of Mr. Darcy's mind, a place she presently shares with unaesthetic opinions of her appearance and manners. Yet, entirely unbeknown to her, the aspects that were once subjects of criticism become, oddly enough, sources of attraction for our leading man.

Today we invite our new friend, Joel Ozborn, to talk with us a little Billy Joel. As we find out Joel (Ozborn, not Billy) used to work very closely with the late comic/magician The Amazing Jonathan (who hated Billy Joel music). But, Joel made his boss (and friend) listen to it anyway, which is awesome. Joel O. discovered Billy Joel by way of Australia, where he lives now. So, a different perspective across the globe on how Sir William brings the planet together in his greatness. If you are one of our Australian listener friends, go see either of the Joel's perform live.

In the master bedroom, he found his friend, his lover and the man servant to Sir William dead. Having died several hours earlier, he was lying motionless, with a sticky pool of congealed blood about his head, having had his skull brutally smashed in with a hammer. But why?Was this a robbery? A revenge killing? Or an attack on an openly gay man? With Sir William in Scotland and Victor at several clubs in the city at the time of the murder, neither witnessed the attack, or saw any potential suspects. So, what happened, and who murdered Sir William's manservant?Murder Mile is researched, written and performed by Michael J Buchanan-Dunne of Murder Mile Walks with the main musical themes written and performed by Erik Stein and Jon Boux of Cult With No Name with additional music, as used under the Creative Commons License 4.0 (Attribution) via Free Music Archive and YouTube Music. The life of Sir William Marshal reads like a medieval story book. Starting out as a landless squire whose only possession was family connections, Marshal rose from household knight to become one of the wealthiest and most powerful nobles in early thirteenth century England. Ultimately, he was chosen by his peers to be the guardian and regent of a boy king, during a French invasion abetted by a baronial revolt. William Marshal's remarkable rise was due to the qualities that made him, in the words of both friends and foes, “the finest knight in all the world,” his prowess, his acumen in both war and court politics, and, above all, his reputation for unshakeable loyalty. In this episode Richard and Ellen retell stories about William Marshal's life as a landless household knight. A follow on episode explores his career as a baron and his complicated relationship with King John of Magna Carta and Robin Hood notoriety. The focus of both episodes is on the key to William Marshal's success, his practical chivalry
