I sit down with Michelle Johnston, the co-creator, of the Cash For Color Program.About the CA$H FOR COLOR ProgramRun by stallion owners for the pure purpose of giving back to breeders and exhibitors of color horses, CA$H FOR COLOR is a program with the substance, planning and experience to have lasting impact on the industry. Appaloosa, Buckskin, Paint, Pinto, Palomino and Roan stallions with full color registration in one of the respective color breeds are eligible for the program.Michelle Johnston, the founder of the program working with another stallion owner Kate Joos, DVM, are determined to better the color horse industry. “The mission of this program is to provide a platform to promote Color Breeds and incentivize breeding to enrolled stallions. Our goal is to provide a program which showcases breeders and enthusiasts. Participants will have the opportunity to earn CA$H and prizes while having fun with their families, friends and horses, all in an effort to encourage, strengthen and promote the future of the Color Breeds and the horse industry as a whole.”“As Stallion Owners, we will run this program with full transparency and integrity.” Explains Michelle who is grateful for the help of fellow equestrian Karla Jones who helps with the Social Media updates and Sponsorships for the program. Karla is also assisting with all the paperwork and behind the scenes administrative duties required to run the program. “Results and payouts will be published, and financial statements will be available to the owners of enrolled stallions. We will work tirelessly to maintain the honor and reputation of this program and the stallions enrolled.”Stallion services are available for purchase now on the CA$H FOR COLOR Facebook page. Each stallion is sold for 50% of his advertised stud fee plus a $100 admin fee. This is a great opportunity to buy your color breeding at a discount while supporting this new program determined to give back to the color horses.________________________________________________________________Support the showAppaloosa: More Than Just a Color Breed. You can follow Dani on Instagram @ Danithewonderhorse.Meet the BreyerFest 2021 Celebration Horse, Danash's Northern Tempest aka Dani! Dani will be the headline star of the 2021 BreyerFest Horse of a Different Color, held July 16-18, 2021. Her underdog story in the hunter rings with owner/rider Laura Reece and trainer Ashley Glica of ATG Equestrian truly embodies Breyer's Horse of a Different Color theme for 2021, and models can only be obtained by purchasing select BreyerFest tickets. But Dani's announcement as Breyer's 2021 Celebration Horse was just the cherry on top to a fantastic first week of 2021, as the striking 2013 Appaloosa Friesian mare was named Circuit Champion in USHJA 2' Hunters at ESP's Holiday Finale. The colorful mare also took a win in the Marshall & Sterling Medal Class and competed in the 15-17 Children's Equitation division with Francesca Moore in the irons.Danash's Northern Tempest (aka Dani) is a 2013 Leopard Appaloosa Friesian cross mare (Danash K x Chief’s Bold Angel) registered with Friesian Heritage Horse & Sporthorse International as well as with the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF). Dani is owned by Palm Beach Sport Horses of West Palm Beach, Florida and is trained by Ashley Glica of ATG Equestrian in Loxahatchee, Florida. Dani was born in Michigan and bred by Jessica Bowman of North Horse Farm in Cheboygan. She was purchased as a filly by Jessica Collins and relocated to Southern Florida where she was slowly and properly started under the close eye of Brandy Rivas at Equines and Equestrians in Southwest Ranches. In 2017 she was purchased by Palm Beach Sport Horses, and makes her home at ATG Equestrian in Loxahatchee. Under the keen eye of ATG's Ashley Glica, Dani has quickly become an exceptional sport horse, winning Circuit Champion in Rusty Stirrup at ESP in 2019-2020 as well as several notable ribbons in Hunter Derby, USHJA, and Green Hunter Classes at the 2020 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, Florida. She has also spent the fall perfecting her style in the hunter ring, including numerous USHJA National Hunter Derbies and the Low Children's Hunter classes. While Dani is not the typical Hunter horse, she is a shining example of her lineage's versatility and a divergence from the typical sporthorses seen in Wellington. She has been recognized through a multitude of media outlets and has an active, engaged, and quickly growing following on social media. She is the Fall 2020 cover model for Equine America magazine, and along with Laura Reece of Palm Beach Sporthorses was the October 2020 cover for Wellington Magazine. She was profiled in Chronicle of the Horse in early 2020, has starred in numerous fun and fashion photo shoots, and was chosen to appear in an editorial for famed children’s photographer Olesja Mueller for publication in La Belle Kidz magazine. World and Youth World Show Combined for 2020 - EP35

Appaloosa Horse Club NEWS RELEASE JUNE 4, 2020 —For the first time ever, the World Championship Appaloosa Show and the World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show will be held together October 29-November 8 at the Will Rogers Equestrian Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Details for the dual World Shows were finalized by the ApHC Board of Directors, which met for 3 hours on Wednesday in special session. The Board had vowed ear ier to try and save this year's Youth World Championships after an earlier cancellation was forced by the nationwide COVID- 1 9 outbreak. "While we were all disappointed by the cancellation, it opened the door to trying something new, different and exciting," said ApHC President Ken Johnson. "Holding the two World Shows together, which has never happened before, will make this truly a 'family affair.' I applaud the Board of Directors for taking this novel approach and for helping to give our youth exhibitors, the very lifeblood or our club, the kind or show they so richly deserve. It's going to be a great event. Details of the show schedule will be released soon, but nearly 80 youth classes will be offered over a 5-day period. In other action, the Board also agreed, on a permanent basis, to raise youth eligibility from 18-and-under to 19- and-under, beginning in 2021. This followed a request by the Appaloosa Youth Association (AYA) to expand youth eligibility. This will also impact classes currently held in divisions. For example, current age groups of 12-and-under, 13- 5 and 16-18 will become 13-and-under, 14-16 and 17-19. The only class not impacted is leadline, which will remain 6-and-under. "Following lengthy discussions by the full Board, as well as by the Show and Rules Committees, we believe that raising youth eligibility next year to 19-years-old will stimulate participation at our Regional Shows, while also benefitting the ApHC and our members for years to come," Johnson continued. "It's definitely a win-win for everyone and gives all of our youth participants that extra year of eligibility that we promised them because of COVID-19 — but now they'll also be getting it permanently." The Board also approved new rules for green horse eligibility, raising the limit for points from 10 to IS. Additional rule changes and updates were also unanimously approved for Ranch Trail, All rule changes which have been approved by the Board this year will be posted on the ApHC's website in the coming weeks and then https://www.appaloosa.com/association/pdf/2020_07_07_ShowCommittee.pdfQuestion that I have received already, for BOD Candidates. What are the plans for modernizing the registration process? Is there a plan to allow registering horses online? What are the plans for updating the web site, and member dashboard? I would like to know why they are not willing to implement a working HUS division. The AQHA and NSBA both just demonstrated how HUGE and SUCCESSFUL these classes are when judged correctly. Hunters are not western horses in English tack. I am tired of hearing about how they do not have funds when this is a division that could generate funds. Why is it not being run in tests at regional shows with specialty judges or at specialty shows (true working hunter shows) with points that would count fully? Why are appaloosa breeders being expected to foot an even bigger registration bill at time of registry. Such as in the case in registration fee as well as being forced to DNA and parentage verify at time of registering. That fee does nothing to bonus revue for the club. Why not continue as it is now as a option or offer discounted rates at time of transfer. For small breeding operation DNASupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/Appaloosa)

Owner of Rockin' MD Ranch and Multiple World Champion Artfully Designed - Wendy Jo McCain- EP26

If you ask Wendy McCain what her favorite thing about the Appaloosa breed is she will tell you that as much as she loves the uniqueness of the horses, it is the people that drew her in and have become a life-long community she is proud to be a part of. What becomes immediately apparent when you visit with her is that her enthusiasm for the breed is contagious. Today, she runs a small but incredibly successful non-pro breeding program. Like so many of us, Wendy came from modest beginnings and was horse crazy from birth. Raised in Minnesota, her family owned Quarter Horses and she competed in her first show at age three. Her entire family was involved in horses and they went to shows almost every weekend from May to October each year. Tough she went to college and held a professional position in the marketing industry for 15 years, Wendy always managed to have horses in her life to some degree. Her breed of choice became Appaloosas in 1996 when she married an Appaloosa owner, and she never looked back. They bred, raised and showed Appaloosas, and in 2000 they bred Tonya Star to Artful Move. The match produced the horse of Wendy’s dreams she named Artfully Designed. She was there to assist in his delivery and has owned him his whole life, carefully guiding his career and building her breeding program with him.   Driven to be successful, Wendy has never stopped educating herself, setting specific goals and applying her business skills to her horse program. Never afraid to ask for help and always seeking to better her knowledge, she even went to Texas A & M to become certified in Equine Reproduction/Mare & Stallion Management. Since 2006 she and her husband, David McCain, maintain a 140-acre ranch nestled eight minutes south of Abilene, Texas. Rockin’ MD Ranch operates out of a small barn and an equipment barn that Wendy claims is nothing fancy, but very cost effective. The property is also home to deer, turkeys and wild hogs and the McCain hospitality not only feeds the critters, but welcomes visitors at all times. Wendy is living proof that you don’t have to be a professional or have excessive amounts of money to be successful in the horse show/breeding industry. Consistently among the leading non-pros in our breed for over two decades.
