Cindy Martin has seen the corruption of the medical establishment up close and personal. She shares the story of how her beloved husband died at the Marietta Memorial Hospital after he was placed on what she alleges was an unnecessary ventilator and feeding tube when he originally went to the hospital due to pneumonia. Cindy says that she was repeatedly banned from the premises and treated as an adversary by doctors when she tried to advocate for her husband. His health continued to deteriorate as he received a cocktail of drugs that included fentanyl and morphine. Tragically, her husband passed away while Cindy was not even allowed to be by his side. She shares her story and brings awareness to the dangers of unnecessary and terrifying hospitalization protocols in hopes of saving more lives. A 2018 study on young adults leaving the Catholic Church conducted by St. Mary's Press found people stopped identifying as Catholics at a median age of 13, long before they ceased attending a parish. That's around the 7th or 8th grade. So today, I'm going to be talking with Randy Adams, associate director in the Office of Adolescent Catechesis and Evangelization, and Cindy Martin, who is the Jr. High Youth Minister at St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land, to find out what we are doing as a diocese and in our parishes to address this situation.Even if you don't have Jr. High-aged children in your home or in your family right now, we encourage you to listen to this episode, because we are talking about the future of the Catholic Church in the United States, and there are great insights in this discussion that we can all use in our interactions with young Catholics.Office of Adolescent Catechesis and Evangelization-----------------------------------To learn about the ministries and office of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, visit us online at archgh.org.FacebookInstagramYouTube

Being on the leading edge of ideas and technology energizes me, especially when they are helping to make humanity and our earth a little healthier and happier. Cindy entered the corporate world by helping to build AT&T's very first internet service, WorldNet, at the then corporate headquarters in NJ. She then went on to serve as VP of Sales and Marketing for one of the first commercial search engines in the U.S. (Magellan) in San Francisco. It was an energizing roller-coaster of a ride and she saw what was happening in technology and media and decided to move back home to Alabama. Cindy then founded AL.com, working in concert with the newspapers in the state. We started at ground zero and worked to build it into a $20M/yr digital media company. Bham Now was born out of this vision, which moved her to Birmingham to start the new media company. Her team is focused on creating and publishing digital content with a customer first mindset; helping them connect and stay informed all while supporting the Greater Birmingham community. Local people and local businesses are the two loves of her life.
Today we're hearing from Cindy Martin the founder and President of Bham Now and most recently also The Bama Buzz. Bham Now is Birmingham's modern media company, helping to make our city better, smarter and more healthy. Bham Now provides news, information and camaraderie for a modern Birmingham by publishing content to help educate, inform and entertain the greater Birmingham audience. They are very passionate about promoting local companies, non-profits, products and events and are helping us all build up Birmingham together! In part 2 of our conversation with Cindy Martin and Mary Hunter we talk about PORTL. (Portable Operant Research and Teaching Lab) Cindy Martin hosts a clinic for me at her farm in Arkansas. Mary Hunter is our co-presenter in our new Listen and Learn audio course on applied behavior analysis. During a morning’s conversation after the 2019 clinic, the discussion turned to PORTL. Mary truly is our PORTL master. When she was working on her master’s degree at the University of North Texas, every week the graduate students in the behavior analysis department would get together to play PORTL. Actually, originally it would have been Kay Laurence’s table game, Genabacab. Under Jesús’ direction the game gradually morphed into PORTL: the portable operant research and teaching lab. Table games had been used to help handlers improve their teaching skills. Now they could also be used to conduct research. Mary’s Master’s degree used PORTL to investigate the effects of what are commonly referred to as desperation clicks. What effect, if any, does one bad click have on the rest of your training? Rather than frustrate lab rats, Mary used her fellow students to explore this question. Her research was published in the Journal of Experimental Analysis of Behavior. In 2019 she and Dr. Jesus Rosales Ruiz also published the Portal manual. The manual shares lessons that were developed over seven years in undergraduate and graduate courses and also in professional workshops. I’ve had the very great treat of playing PORTL with Mary. That’s what we’ll be describing as we pick up again with this week’s podcast.
Equiosity Episode 102: Emotions and Emotional Behavior - Cindy Martin and Mary Hunter In a conversation with Cindy Martin and Mary Hunter we discuss the “split in the church”. You’ll have to listen to the podcast to learn what that metaphor means in relation to training. It opened up a conversation about using different markers for different behaviors, jackpots, reinforcement is a process not a thing, reliable loops, treatless clicks, and changing behavior cycles one element at a time. All of this led us to a discussion of emotions and emotional behavior.
The corona virus has forced the cancellation of all my spring 2020 clinics. I can’t get to my clinics, but at least I can share this conversation that was recorded last year at the spring Arkansas clinic. At the end of the clinic, several regular attendees stayed on for a relaxed evening visit. After dinner, I set up my computer, got out my microphone and we recorded a clinic wrap up. Joining me were our clinic host, Cindy Martin, and Anita Schnee, Karen Quirk, and Mary Hunter. Mary is our presenter in our new “Listen and Learn Audio Course: An Introduction to Behavior Analysis”. So this podcast is a great way to introduce her to you. To learn more about the audio course visit: equiosity.com The topic we jumped into was a discussion of the difference between movement cycles and loopy training. What is the relationship between these two terms and how does that help us design better training plans?
On this episode of Coffee with Closers, Eric Forney and Lauren Hager talk to Cindy Martin about her decades of experience in real estate. They discuss her challenges as a female Realtor in the 70s, how she has brought value to her rich referral network for many years, and how she has kept her sanity in a demanding career. Tammy Howard joins and she and Cindy share how they have chosen to work together in an unorthodox way, and why they chose to come to Keller Wiliams together.
This is a very different kind of podcast. Dominique and I were at the Art and Science of Animal Training Conference. We had just come from the Saturday night dinner where I was given a very special award. After the presentation I was joined by Mary Hunter, Caeli Collins, Suzanne Kernek, Katie Bartlett, Natalie Zielinski, Michaela Hempen and Cindy Martin to celebrate. This is the recording of that celebration.
Today's guest knew exactly what she wanted to do at the age of 10—she wanted to help children overcome emotional and psychological issues. That childhood desire has turned into an equine therapy business. Listen in as Cindy Martin shares her amazing story of ingenuity and healing.
Clicker trained horses want to play with us. That's a good thing, but there are places where a little less "Pick me! Pick me!" enthusiasm would make life easier. When you have more than one horse and you are trying to get just one out of the pasture gate, how do you deal with all this eagerness to be with you? That's the question we focus on in this continuation of our conversation with Cindy Martin. What are some strategies for managing multiple horses so the situation remains safe and pleasant for both horses and handlers.
Cushings disease is something more and more horses owners are dealing with in part because we are keeping our horses into their old age. Cindy Martin provides a comprehensive starting point for understanding this disease - what are the early symptoms, how do you test for it, manage it, what is the difference between cushings disease and insulin resistance, what on-line resources can help you?
Cindy Martin joins us for Part 1 of a three hour conversation. Cindy is a treasure. Anyone who has been on line in the clicker training community will have met Cindy. She is always there, generously stepping in to help people with their training and health care questions. In this episode Cindy shares the many resources she's found to help people manage their horses' feet.

While each dog is an individual, we will be talking about Cindy's Bull Terriers as well as some generalities with the breed and what to look for if you are considering adding one to your home.

Equiosity Podcast - Episode 55: A Celebration! Panel on Duration: Part 4 This is Part Four of our panel discussion on duration. We invited our guests from our first year of podcasts to join us. So we have Hannah Brannigan, Nancy Kelly, Michaela Hempen, Cindy Martin, Mary Concannon, and Jane Jackson. With such a great group of panelists we had a lot to talk about!
Our celebration of a year of podcasting continues on with our panel discussion on duration. We invited Hannah Brannigan, Nancy Kelly, Michaela Hempen, Cindy Martin, Mary Concannon and Jane Jackson to join us. This week Nancy talks about the CIA cats, and by CIA she is not referring to the Culinary Institute of America. As we talk about strategies for building duration, we focus on the importance of establishing clear criteria, building the base unit well, alternating between different types of behavior, and taking breaks to prevent fatigue. Enjoy!
This is episode 53 which means we’re starting our second year of podcasting! We’re continuing to celebrate this milestone with a panel discussion. As you’ll recall from last week, we invited all the guests from our 2018 podcasts to gather with us around a virtual kitchen table, or if you prefer the image of us all sitting together near a blazing fire, that works too. We invited Hannah Brannigan, Nancy Kelly, Michaela Hempen, Cindy Martin, Mary Concannon and Jane Jackson to join us in a discussion centered around one of Dominique's favorite topics - and that’s how do you build duration? In Part One Michaela and I had just finished describing a process for extending duration by cueing units of behavior. This technique comes to us from another great trainer, Kay Laurence. We were shifting from “how-to” questions to another equally important topic. It’s not so much do you know how to extend the duration of a behavior, but are you comfortable asking for more? Cindy Martin was about to jump into the conversation to answer that question when I cued the music. I made you wait until this week to find out what our panelists had to say on this topic. So this episode picks up again where we left off. Enjoy!
We’re celebrating! Episode 52 marks the end of one very full year of podcasting. We’re celebrating this milestone with a special event. We’ve invited all of the guests who joined us in this first year of podcasting to come back and join us for a special panel discussion on duration. So we’re joined in this podcast by Hannah Brannigan, Nancy Kelly, Michaela Hempen, Cindy Martin, Mary Concannon, and Jane Jackson. Through the marvels of technology we gathered around a virtual kitchen table and had a great discussion about training. It is always a treat to have that many skilled trainers joining the conversation. And the best part is you get to listen in! Enjoy!
Melissa Cizauskas is a force of nature. She rocks the San Diego area as a dynamic and successful businessperson and a leader of woman entrepreneurs. Together, she and I hit the red carpet at the 5th annual viewing of the Oscars with the San Diego Film Festival. We interview trailblazers, history shakers, and let's not forget movie makers! Plus, Cindy Martin, Superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District shares what support ‘our kids need' in a digital age world. A show you wont want to miss!
Part 3 of our conversation with Cindy Martin shifts to a focus on emotional behavior. Our conversation centers around a thoroughbred mare participating in the fall 2018 clinic at Cindy’s place. Targeting quickly shifted her out of a state of extreme anxiety. This raises the question: what are we reinforcing when we click? Why don’t we get more anxiety instead of less?
One of the many reasons I so appreciate the contributions Cindy Martin makes to our understanding of clicker training is the very clear way in which she explains things. She transforms what are often very complex and seemingly incomprehensible concepts into very understandable terms. In this second part of our conversation with her, she tackles a concept that has gained a lot of traction in the training world - dominance. And then she uses MP3 players to help us to understand why training a large repertoire of behaviors can help us get along better with our animals.
This week we begin a three part conversation with Cindy Martin, one of my “Click That Teaches” coaches. Cindy talks about her background with both horses and dogs. She introduces us to her thoroughbred, Porter. Porter was “that” horse who helped her go beyond the basics of clicker training. Often it is one particularly challenging horse that brings people to clicker training. In Cindy’s case, her Yoda, as she refers to him, was Porter, a thoroughbred with a neurological condition. Porter is a head shaker. In the podcast Cindy describes his condition and the extreme behavior it created. She found the solution through thin slicing her training requests and the building of very predictable patterns. If you are currently struggling with a hard-to-reach horse, you will especially want to listen to this week’s podcast. When a horse pins his ears at the sight of you - or worse, in Porter’s case, goes into a fit of head shaking, it’s hard not to take it personally. Cindy’s journey with Porter provides an excellent road map to help get you through what can be very challenging territory. Enjoy!
In celebration of TWO full years of the Are We Okay? Podcast, Alli Wallace and Weston Scott drop by the podcast to talk about the difference between a bush and a tree, discussing politics with guests, the JFK assassination, Uncle Sam's unrequited relationship with his stepson, astral traveling with Cindy Martin, Kenny Gracia's theistic civility, the songs we would strip to, Johnny Wilson's marathon episode, how I feel about frisbee golf, sharing a cheesecake and mimosas with Jenn Hix, whether I'll ever hang out with Jesslyn Brundy, Justin Meddings' Bob Dole jokes, the strangest trolley tour of our lives, stuffing a turkey's wife, Danielle Churchill's green light for empathy, Dallas Bronson's butt, supporting your artist friends like Neal Breton, Savannah Nicholson's growth mindset, being desperate for Ben Ayers' attention, making an album alongside a weekly podcast, Larry Delinger's journals, and trying to live up to Ian Hassett's example. Then we answer a handful of rapid-fire questions, and play a game of Brat Pack Fact Attack: Rat Pack Smacks Back!
Esotericist Cindy Martin drops by the podcast to talk about demonology, not wasting smiles, speaking Cat, being bullied out of communing with plants, record-breaking kidney stones, memorizing flower names, devoting her early 20s to motherhood, the occult, poison Mini Wheats, her threshold for weird, sleep paralysis, her random enlightenment experience, fortifying your energy, astral traveling, seeing where trees will be, etheric doubles, being stopped by a lord of Karma, the consciousness of plants, naguals, dream interpretation, reading tarot, real and fake psychics, astrological signs, reincarnation, why you might not have a guardian angel, Spiritism, the planes of existence, the smiling man who follows her in the spirit realm, casting your circle, and meeting an alien at a rock shop in Oregon.
