Today, Piper speaks with Chairman of the Lake Placid Horse Show Philip Richter about the upgrades that exhibitors will enjoy in July 2025 during the two week horse show. We also speak with Scott Neuman who is the Director of Competitions at the American Quarter Horse Association about their growing discipline. The son of the late, highly respected trainer, Judy Richter, Philip began riding in the short stirrup at age six and later competed in the pony hunter divisions, equitation, junior hunters, junior jumpers and remains an active competitor in the amateur jumper divisions. Philip sits on the board of the United States Equestrian Team Foundation, the United States Equestrian Federation, the Revs Institute, and the Pray Family Foundation. Philip is also Chairman of the Lake Placid Horse Show and serves as Co-Treasurer of the Hampton Classic Horse Show. Outside of the horse world, Philip is also the President of Hollow Brook Wealth Management, LLC, a full service, SEC registered, wealth management firm. Philip is a graduate of Boston College and holds an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business. Guest: Scott Neuman is the Director of Competitions at the American Quarter Horse Association. Before working at AQHA, he operated a boarding and training business specializing in all-around horses. Scott was an AQHA judge for more than 20 years and the Director of Equestrian Studies at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. In addition to working at prestigious auctions such as the Western Heritage Classic and Return to the Remuda, he is the CEO for Clovis Horse Sales in Levelland, Texas, a sale that attracts consignments from many cowboys and ranchers. Friskup also auctioneers at National Cutting Horse Association event sales. Swinging a gavel and selling horses has been his passion since he was a teenager growing up in Oklahoma, and today he is regarded as the top auctioneer in the Western performance horse industry. He also commands a large following on social media through his “Coffee with the Colonel” videos, which are viewed by thousands of Facebook users five times a week.

Luke Brock, originally from Franklin, TN, began riding at age 8 at a Quarter Horse breeding farm. He honed his skills breaking colts before joining the IHSA team at Western Kentucky University. Seeking new challenges, Luke moved to Colorado to earn an AAS in Horse Training and Management from Lamar Community College, followed by working with several cow horse trainers out West. Returning to Middle Tennessee, Luke completed a Bachelor's in Animal Science and a Master's in Equine Education from Middle Tennessee State University, where he was active on the IHSA, Stock Horse, and Horse Judging teams. His time at MTSU also included an opportunity to travel to England as an AQHA clinician. Now, as the Head Coach at Morehead State University, he leads the Western and Hunt Seat IHSA teams and has established a ranch horse team. Since returning to MSU, he has coached eight nationally ranked riders, including a 2024 National Champion in Ranch Riding, and secured funding for undergraduate research.

Welcome to another Western Ag Voices Episode! On this episode, we had the opportunity to visit with Devin Sisk of Muleshoe, TX. Devin was raised in New Braunfels, but now calls the Panhandle home. She served as Miss Rodeo Texas in 2009, where she traveled the country promoting rodeo and agriculture. While in college at Texas A&M, she started her photography business to help pay for rent and entry fees. Upon graduation with her Bachelor of Science in Ag Leadership and Development, Devin decided to take photography full time and hasn't looked back. Her team has grown to over 15 members and they specialize in photographing and marketing large western events like livestock shows, rodeos, and weddings. Aside from photography, Devin and her husband Jed are immersed in their AQHA and cattle operation in the Texas Panhandle and Central New Mexico. They share their love for agriculture with their two children, Sunnie and Ira, and are passionate about promoting and preserving the Western way of life.
