In 2010, the Association for Information Systems formed a special interest group () to nurture an international community of academics that study the role of digital technologies in fostering environmentally, economically and socially sustainable development. Fifteen years later, we sit down with , the current SIGGreen president, to reflect on the progress we have made. What do we know about how digital technologies help greening our planet? What efforts in empirical, theoretical, and design work is still needed? Is our role to understand the role of digital technologies or do we need to push and enact change ourselves? We conclude that environmental questions and problems are now firmly on the radar screen of our discipline but more work needs to be done for information systems academics to transform the way we think about and use digital technologies.

Informed by multiple disciplinary debates including critical theory, relativity theory and quantum physics, and musicology, Temporal Urban Design is a comprehensive new theory and methodological approach to the aesthetics of time and rhythm in the city. In this third episode of Time/Out, Filipa Matos Wunderlich shares her path to conceptualizing place-temporality and learning how to map and represent the performative aesthetic of time through rhythm in different built environments. Her thinking informs her new book published at the start of 2024, which invites urban designers and planners to think differently about urban places from a temporal perspective and refreshes the way we think about urban design and widens the framework for place design practice. Overall, it anchors the conversation on place-time, rhythm and rhythmanalysis, and offers urban designers a conceptual, analytical and practice framework. Finally, it assists with ways to communicate with others on time, and design for temporality and rhythm in urban space. You can find the blog What/Next at www.planung-neu-denken.deSound pack credits: josefpres (https://freesound.org/people/josefpres/ )You can find this pack online at: https://freesound.org/people/josefpres/packs/36680/

(Wdh. vom 24.04.2023)

In this episode Anya hosts 3rd Degree Black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and Certified Uncivilized Men's Coach, Robert Wunderlich. Robert is building a method to combat isolation and loneliness by fostering a deep connection with oneself and others and his mission is to teach that to as many people as he can. When I think of what a fighter is, I think of two things; the warrior and a lover. Not many people think about love in the context of fighting. Robert beautifully represents this duality and in this episode we came together to explore the topics of loneliness, connection, and some real talk on what we as modern humans are struggling with. We hit on blind spots, what ‘doing the work' actually means, the industrial revolution, and modern feminism. Robert also lays out the 5 points of connection and how to combat loneliness in a very specific way. Robert has a Master's Degree in Anthropology and worked as a project archeologist for roughly 20 years primarily within the western United States. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2004 under Professor David Ruiz. He competed in local and international tournaments and traveled the country as a referee for F2W Pro. I've heard and enjoyed many a German lyric tenor, but if there was ever a greater one than Fritz Wunderlich (26 September 1930 – 17 September 1966), I've never heard him! What is it about this singer, who first of all, possessed a voice of such matchless visceral beauty, and who conveyed such joy and enthusiasm in the sheer act of singing, that cannot fail to engage us. My beloved “not-boyfriend” refers to Wunderlich's voice and artistry as possessing more “face” than nearly any other singer in history, and I do think he's on to something. The very simplicity of his utterance conveys a sort of “Everyman” quality to everything he sang. This, alongside the precision of his delivery of text pulls the listener in and almost compels them to listen. In today's episode, I offer recordings from the 1950s, when Wunderlich was just beginning his career. His early musical experience centered around popular music of the time, and we hear him in this repertoire, as well as operetta, Lieder, so-called “early music,” as well as the more standard operatic repertoire (Mozart, Puccini, Strauss), the majority of which were recorded before 1960. His partners in song in this episode include names both familiar (Anneliese Rothenberger, Pilar Lorengar, Hilde Güden) as well as those who are less well-remembered (Trude Eipperle, Helmut Krebs, Herbert Brauer, Friederike Sailer) who nevertheless are equally memorable. As a tribute to the season, there are a number of excerpts from Puccini's La Bohème, the first act of which which is set, of course, on Christmas Eve. If these selections alone do not bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye, you'd do well to check your pulse! The episode begins with a tribute to the late tenor John Aler (04 October 1949 – 10 December 2022). Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel's lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and journalist yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” At Countermelody's core is the celebration of great singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. In Session 185, AKA Inside JABA Series #11, I'm joined by Drs. Linda LeBlanc, Jeff Tiger, and Javier Virues-Ortega for a deep dive into automatically maintained behavior. This session was inspired by the study Javier and his colleagues published in the Spring 2022 issue of JABA (Virues-Ortega, Clayton, Perez-Bustamante, Gaerlan, and Fahmie, 2022). In this episode, we discuss the nature of, and challenges with automatically-maintained problem behavior. And this is tackled from both conceptual and treatment angles. As I mention in the episode, I don't encounter these types of problem behaviors that frequently these days, so it was a treat to update my knowledge in this area. It's easy to think of automatic reinforcement as a monolith, but as it turns out, even dividing it up between positive and negative reinforcement may not be sufficient enough to render effective treatment. We spent probably the first 25-30 minutes discussing some of the known challenges associated with assessing and treating these repertoires, and then spend the remaining time discussing Javier and his colleagues' paper, which presented two very unique investigations. If you work with individuals with these profiles, you'll want to listen all the way through, and better still, check out the paper itself. Here are some of the studies we discussed: Functional analysis patterns of automatic reinforcement: A review and component analysis of treatment effects (Virues-Ortega et al., 2022) An analysis of the reinforcing properties of handmouthing (Goh et al., 1995) Delineating subtypes of Self Injurious Behavior maintained by automatic reinforcement (Hagopian, Rooker, and Zarcone, 2015). A retrospective analysis of stereotypy: Applicability of the behavioral subtyping model (Wunderlich, Hemstreet and Best, 2022; not discussed during this episode, but in the same issue of JABA, and on my list to read next). Lastly, I'd be remiss if I did not take a minute to thank Linda LeBlanc for reaching out to me to start the Inside JABA series. As I tell her every chance I get, I consider it an honor to be involved with the flagship journal in our field. If someone told me as an undergraduate at the University of New Hampshire that I'd be regularly involved with JABA in some capacity, I wouldn't have believed them. As some of you might know, Linda's term as Editor in Chief is expiring, but we are planning to continue the podcast series with incoming EIC, Dr. John Borrero. More info on this to come, but in the meantime, please enjoy this installment of the Inside JABA Series.
