Le module doit notamment approfondir le sujet de l'esclavage de cette minorité, estimée entre 1,5 et 2 millions de personnes dans le pays, selon l'État roumain. Aboli il y a 170 ans, le travail forcé souffre d'un manque de visibilité dans les écoles roumaines. Mais le début de cet enseignement, prévu à la rentrée 2026, pourrait prendre du retard. De notre correspondant à Bucarest, Guilhem Bernes Assis à son bureau à Bucarest, le sociologue Adrian-Nicolae Furtuna ouvre un livre d'archives. À l'intérieur, les contrats de vente d'esclaves roms défilent : « Regardez ici. C'est le cas de Craciun, un enfant Rom, qui a été vendu à trois maîtres différents en seulement deux jours. Vous voyez ici, vous pouvez voir la signature et l'empreinte du doigt, en bas du texte rédigé en cyrillique. » Pendant près de cinq siècles, l'esclavage des Roms se pratique dans les principautés roumaines de Valachie et de Moldavie. Monastères, boyards, paysans, l'ensemble de la société recourt au travail forcé de cette minorité ethnique. Les esclaves sont alors considérés comme des biens meubles. Une absence de droit avec son lot de personnes battues, parfois jusqu'à la mort, de violences sexuelles et d'enfants séparés de leurs parents. Cette page de l'histoire est tombée dans l'oubli en Roumanie, depuis l'abolition du système, il y a 170 ans. « J'ai découvert l'histoire de l'esclavage des Roms quand j'avais 20 ans. J'étais étudiant. Quand j'ai démarré mes recherches, je ne courais pas après le sensationnel. Mais à force de documenter, j'ai fini par tomber sur des informations comme celle-ci, raconte Adrian-Nicolae Furtuna. Ces documents montrent clairement comment un paysan roumain pouvait acheter un enfant pour ensuite le revendre au monastère dont il dépendait. » « Ils ont besoin de comprendre (...) ce qu'il s'est passé » Delia Grigorie, activiste et maîtresse de conférences à l'université de Bucarest, travaille à la rédaction de nouveaux manuels scolaires. Depuis l'adoption d'une loi en juillet 2023, les collégiens et lycéens roumains peuvent choisir des cours dédiés à l'histoire des Roms. Le programme, d'une durée de quatre ans, toujours en cours d'élaboration, doit s'attarder sur leur esclavage : « Ils ont besoin de comprendre, dès le plus jeune âge, ce qu'il s'est passé : pourquoi les Roms ont été marginalisés et restent encore aujourd'hui fortement stigmatisés. Mais aussi, pourquoi ils s'excluent parfois eux-mêmes et gardent une très faible estime d'eux-mêmes. L'enseignement de cette histoire, qui n'est toujours pas enseignée à l'école, est essentiel. Si on la transmet, je suis sûr que le racisme reculera. » Mais le démarrage du nouveau cours prend du retard. Le groupe d'experts chargé de rédiger les manuels a remis sa proposition de curriculum à une commission du ministère de l'Éducation. Depuis huit mois, les chercheurs sont sans nouvelles. Depuis 2003, à cette date on célèbre leur culture, mais on parle aussi des discriminations auxquels ils et elles sont confrontés. Pour mieux savoir qui ils sont et pour nous sensibiliser aux problématiques qu'ils rencontrent, on accueillera Samuel Delepine, chercheur en géographie sociale à l'Université d'angers et auteur de “l'Atlas des Tsiganes”. En deuxième partie d'émission, on vous propose d'écouter l'interview menée par nos confrères et consoeurs de Canal B à Rennes. Der Tod am Kreuz war so schrecklich, dass Menschen mit römischem Bürgerrecht nicht auf diese Weise getötet werden durften. Es war die Strafe für Sklaven oder besonders schlimme Verbrecher. Die Gepeinigten wurden nackt vor den Menschen zur Schau gestellt. Nicht selten mischte sich in die Abscheu vor dem Anblick des Leids auch Spott über die Hingerichteten. So finden wir es auch hier: Die Obersten, die Jesu Feinde waren, spotteten ebenso wie viele der Vorübergehenden (Matthäus 27,39). Auch die Soldaten, die die Hinrichtung umsetzten, stimmten in diesen Spott ein.Kein Wunder also, dass Spott eine verbreitete Reaktion auf den Mann am Kreuz ist, der doch der Sohn Gottes sein sollte. In einer Ruine des antiken Roms wurde z. B. eine Ritz-Zeichnung gefunden, die einen Gekreuzigten mit einem Eselskopf zeigt. Dieses »Graffito« kann man heute noch in den Kapitolinischen Museen besichtigen. Die Abbildung sollte offenbar dem Spott über einen Mann namens Alexamenos dienen. Die zugehörige Inschrift lautet: »Alexamenos betet (seinen) Gott an.« Offenbar war Alexamenos ein Christ, der den gekreuzigten Jesus als den Sohn Gottes anbetete. Doch was sollte das für ein Gott sein, der sich in die Gewalt von Menschen begab, um gekreuzigt zu werden? Das kann doch nur Spott auslösen.Allerdings wird man jedem Spötter des Kreuzes eines dringend vor Augen halten müssen: Da hier tatsächlich der Sohn Gottes den Tod fand, stellt man sich mit seinem Spott auf die Seite der Feinde Gottes. Der Tod Jesu erfüllte einen konkreten Zweck: die Sühnung unserer Schuld. Dazu sandte Gott seinen Sohn, aus Liebe zu uns Menschen. Pour comprendre d'où lui vient une telle énergie et pourquoi elle ne se départ par de beaucoup d'humour, il faut livre son dernier livre : Voleurs de poules, combattre l'antitsiganisme (Libertalia). Cette irréductibilité au pouvoir autant que cette disposition au coup d'éclat, on ne peut la comprendre qu'à partir du récit historique et éthique qu'il fait de l'antitsiganisme et de la guerre livrée depuis toujours par l'État contres les populations Roms, Sinti, Manouches, Gitans, Yéniches et Voyageurs. Des formes de vie, qu'il a toujours fallu surveiller, contrôler, réduire et même éradiquer tant elles incarnent ce petit caillou dans la chaussure d'une civilisation qui ne peut tolérer qu'elle-même. Han såldes till en gladiatorskola i Capua, där han utbildades som murmillo, en tungt utrustad kämpe i arenans brutala skådespel.Slaveriet i Romarriket var grymt och allomfattande. Miljontals människor levde som rättslösa egendomar, utnyttjade i jordbruket, gruvor, hushåll eller som underhållning i gladiatorspel. Deras liv värderades lågt, och brutalt våld upprätthöll systemet.Romarrikets ekonomi och samhälle var i hög grad beroende av slavarbete. Slavar kunde vara födda in i systemet, tagna som krigsfångar eller dömda till slaveri för brott eller skulder. De arbetade på stora jordegendomar – latifundier – i gruvor och hushåll. Högt utbildade slavar kunde även fungera som lärare, läkare eller sekreterare åt sina herrar. Vissa slavar kunde dock friges genom manumissio, ofta efter lång och trogen tjänst, och därigenom erhålla vissa medborgerliga rättigheter som frigivna.Sommaren 73 f.Kr. organiserade Spartacus tillsammans med ett 70-tal gladiatorer en flykt från träningsskolan i Capua. De dödade vakterna och tog sin tillflykt till berget Vesuvius. Där inleddes en av antikens mest oväntade revolter. Till en början betraktade den romerska senaten upproret som en lokal incident och skickade en mindre styrka under befäl av Gaius Claudius Glaber. Han belägrade rebellerna, men besegrades fullständigt när Spartacus ledde en överraskande attack från bergets baksida.Allt fler slavar började ansluta sig till upproret. Inom kort hade Spartacus en rörelse bestående av tiotusentals män och kvinnor. Uppskattningarna varierar, men den växande armén omfattade sannolikt mellan 70 000 och 120 000 personer.Under 72 f.Kr. besegrade Spartacus två romerska konsuler och deras legioner. Rebellerna kontrollerade städer som Nola och Thurii, organiserade sig militärt och försökte skapa någon form av samhällsstruktur. Trots dessa framgångar var målet oklart: avsåg Spartacus att marschera mot Rom, eller ville han enbart fly till frihet utanför rikets gränser?Senaten insåg nu allvaret i situationen.
