Maxentius drunknade i Tibern, och Konstantin tågade in i Rom som härskare över väst.Året därpå, 313, utfärdade Konstantin tillsammans med kejsar Licinius det så kallade Milanoediktet, som garanterade religionsfrihet i hela riket och avslutade de systematiska förföljelserna av kristna. Och det verkar som de underhållit minnet av sitt ursprung i dagens Sverige.I detta avsnitt samtalar programledaren Urban Lindstedt med arkeologen och författaren Jonathan Lindström som är aktuell med boken Sverige långa historia – människor, makt och gudar under 14 000 år.Germanerna var heterogena grupper med stormän, krigare, familjer, tjänare och slavar. Vi känner till många olika germanska grupper där goter, visigoter och vandaler är några av de mest kända.Folkvandringarna handlade om allt till mindre krigarföljen till hela folk och ett folk på vandring kunde ha en mycket varierad sammansättning. Men det kunde finnas en kärna av stormän, som värderade att ha en gemensam identitet och historia för sammanhållningens skull. Hade folket varit på vandring under flera generationers tid kunde de vårda minnet av sitt ursprung, som fick gälla för hela gruppen.Romarriket fungerade som katalysator för germanvandringarna på två sätt. Närheten till Roms nordgräns ledde till ekonomiska och politiska förändringar i Nordeuropa som innebar ökade sociala klyftor och oro, alltså skäl att lämna. Samtidigt lockade rikedomarna och stabiliteten i Romarriket.Den heruliska huvudgruppen historia sträcker sig över 300 år. Under flera århundranden har gruppens ledande familjer underhållit minnet av sitt skandinaviska ursprung.  Kunskapen om ett avlägset mål förklarar germanfolkens märkliga förmåga att under ett sekel befinna sig på en plats, och seklet därpå långt därifrån, utan att någon har sett dem däremellan. Osmanska riket var en gång ett imperium som sträckte sig från Algeriet till Irak och från Ukraina till Jemen, ett välde som omfattade ungerska grässlätter, arabiska öknar, anatoliska berg och grekiska öar. Idag är detta imperium historia, men i över 600 år var det en realitet som alla grannar i Europa, Asien och Afrika måste förhålla sig till: Osmanska riket.När vi möter imperiet i historiska redogörelser brukar vi slarvigt tala om det som Turkiet och hänvisa till dess sultaner som turkar. Men då gör vi fel. I och för sig är dagens Turkiet en efterträdare till imperiet, rent geografiskt, men Osmanska riket hade föga gemensamt med den republik som idag har Ankara som huvudstad. Osmanerna var ett elitfolk som talade ett eget språk (som vanliga turkar inte förstod) och införskaffade sina medlemmar genom att ta kristna pojkar i skatt, försätta dem i slaveri, göra dem till muslimer, sätta dem i hårdträning, gifta bort dem med prinsessor och utnämna dem till generaler och guvernörer. Det var en regim som prioriterade duglighet och effektivitet och som såg sig som arvtagare till både profeten Muhammed och de romerska kejsarna i Konstantinopel. Genom att tillerkänna underkuvade folk långtgående självstyre och tillämpa religionsfrihet gjorde de sig dessutom populära både bland sjörövarhövdingar i Nordafrika och furstar i Ungern och Rumänien.I detta avsnitt av podden Harrisons dramatiska historia samtalar Dick Harrison, professor i historia vid Lunds universitet, och fackboksförfattaren Katarina Harrison Lindbergh om Osmanska riket, den muslimska världens mest glänsande stormakt under det senaste millenniet.Bild: Sultan Selim III håller en audiens framför Felicityporten. Don Martin - som egentlig heter Martin Ahzami Raknerud - har skrevet flere andre teaterstykker om livet på østkanten, og er aktuell med boken “Kan du høre byen puste ut” sammen med Zeshan Shakar. Christina snakker med ham om å jobbe med samme tematikk over mange år, men på forskjellige måter, om å fortelle sin egen historie på egne premisser, om å teste ut nye formater, om samarbeid og prosess! Don Martin er en av pionerene i norsk hiphop. Han var med på å starte Gatas Parlament, som var den første gruppa til å gi ut norskspråklig hiphop på nittitallet. Les Roms sont un communauté unie par une langue, le romani, et des traditions. Quand ils sont arrivés en Europe au Moyen-Âge, on leur a donné différents noms : Gitanos en Espagne, Bohémiens et Manouches en France, Sintés en Allemagne... Parfois tolérés, souvent discriminés, ils ont été persécutés pendant des siècles jusqu'à leur génocide dans les camps nazis. Aujourd'hui, les Roms seraient entre 10 et 12 millions en Europe, ce qui fait d'eux la première minorité du continent.  Mais depuis une quinzaine d'années, la figure du Rom est devenu un nouveau symbole, celui de l'immigré pauvre venu d'Europe de l'Est qui vit dans un campement de fortune près d'une grande ville.  Alors, qui sont vraiment les Roms ? Pourquoi sont-ils traités différemment des autres immigrés européens ? Et que peut-on faire pour faciliter leur intégration en France ?
