As one of the earliest adopters of digital pathology, Eric Glassy has been at the forefront of most of the major DP/AI innovations in the past 25 years. Eric joins Beyond The Scope to guide us through his career long journey with digital pathology. Serving on numerous boards and committees for organizations like the DPA, CAP, and API, Eric also discusses all of the work related to the CMS waiver for remote sign out (including where we currently stand today). Eric is the Medical Director of Affiliated Pathology Medical Group, a community pathology practice primarily serving Southern California. Therefore, he appropriately presents the benefits and perils of using DP/AI in the community setting.
Dr. Joe Sirintrapun is a surgical pathologist and genitourinary tumor expert, currently serving as the Director of Pathology Informatics at MSKCC. Joe joins Beyond the Scope to discuss his journey to the current role at MSKCC, revealing the value of overcoming setbacks and defining some of the qualities needed to be a leader in the field of Informatics. Dr. Jason Hipp is the Chair of the Division of Computational Pathology and Artificial Intelligence at the Mayo Clinic and the Director of Digital Innovation for Mayo Reference Labs. Jason joins Beyond the Scope to discuss his career path, which includes work in academia, the NCI, big pharma, and big tech. His journey through an evolving digital pathology industry is paving the way for pathologists to occupy non-traditional roles, such as informatics director or clinical trials pathologist. Dr. Klimstra joins the show to discuss building a robust digital pathology program at MSKCC and the transition from academia to industry. Sylvia Asa is an endocrine pathologist leading University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH into the era of digital pathology. Previously, Dr. Asa was the Head of Pathology at Canada's largest hospital network, where she successfully built a digital pathology workflow. She joins Beyond The Scope to discuss the moment of realizing the power of digitizing a slide to achieving a fully integrated digital pathology workflow in Canada's largest medical network. As a Chair of the upcoming DPA Visions Conference (October 17-19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas), she previews the program and highlights some of the upcoming talks.
