In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Dan Taylor from Joe Gibbs High Performance Institute to discuss considerations for building a sports science framework and overall high performance team. Fueled by an innate desire to be a life-long learner and apply that knowledge to human performance solutions, Dan has walked various paths throughout his career. A professional ‘systems architect,' Dan has worked at every level of sports and fitness. In his previous roles, he has created high-performance systems that have raised the profile and quality of athlete interventions at each location. He has successfully leveraged a unique strategy of blending applications, academics, and cross-industry relationships. Dan brings this one-of-a-kind approach to developing partnerships and solving problems to his role as Director of Strategic Development and Global Partnerships at Joe Gibbs Human Performance Institute (JGHPI).Before his current role at the JGHPI, Dan spent three seasons with the Charlotte Hornets as the Director of Applied Sports Science. In this role, he was tasked with building the Sports Science program from the ground up. To do this, Dan strategically integrated multiple new technologies, aided in building an in-house AMS system, forged relationships with colleges throughout the Carolinas, and streamlined reporting and access to critical information across the team. By the end of his tenure with the Hornets, Dan had created a platform that advised, informed, and influenced multiple areas within the franchise, from individual athletes to ownership. He also created an environment as one of the few NBA teams that boasted 100% compliance from the players. For more on Dan & JGHPI, be sure to check out jghpi.com & @dt_w0rldwide*SEASON 6 of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast is brought to you by Isophit. New Era Helium CEO Will Gray joined Steve Darling from Proactive to provide a detailed operational update and outline the company's forward-looking development strategy. Gray highlighted ongoing progress across multiple business fronts, including the Pecos Slope Plant project, helium offtake planning, and the company's parallel expansion into AI-driven infrastructure through its joint venture, Texas Critical Data Centers, LLC (TCDC). At the Pecos Slope Field, New Era Helium is actively engaged with its midstream gatherer and processor following a recent transition in both the ownership and management of that third-party entity. Discussions remain constructive, with NEH focused on securing an outcome that is both operationally efficient and financially beneficial. However, Gray acknowledged that as a result of these negotiations, along with delays in securing project financing during the company's recent de-SPAC process, the construction timeline for the Pecos Slope Plant has been extended. To mitigate potential delays and maintain momentum toward monetization, NEH has initiated contingency planning for helium offtake agreements. These efforts are running in parallel with construction timelines and are designed to ensure flexibility in commercial arrangements. The company remains in active dialogue with current counterparties while exploring new agreements to unlock long-term value and ensure a robust path to revenue generation from its helium assets. NEH stands out as one of only two companies trading on a major U.S. exchange with both proved and probable helium reserves, positioning it as a rare and de-risked opportunity in the helium investment landscape. Despite current production from its properties, the company is not receiving payment under its existing marketing agreement, which has surpassed its primary term and now operates on a month-to-month basis. The company is evaluating its options to optimize the commercial structure moving forward. Beyond its helium and natural gas operations, New Era Helium is also making strategic progress on its data center initiative through its joint venture with Sharon AI, Inc. The JV entity, Texas Critical Data Centers (TCDC), has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to acquire 200 acres in Ector County, Texas, for the development of a 250MW net-zero AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data center. This facility will be powered in part by NEH's own natural gas reserves, aligning with its vision for an integrated energy and digital infrastructure platform. This expansion into AI-driven infrastructure reflects NEH's broader mission to diversify its revenue streams beyond traditional commodities and position itself at the intersection of clean energy and next-generation computing. By leveraging its natural resource base to support high-demand sectors such as AI, semiconductor manufacturing, and HPC, the company aims to create long-term value across multiple verticals. #proactiveinvestors #neweraheliuminc #nasdaq #nehc #oil #gas #perimianbasin #HeliumProduction #NaturalGas #DataCenters #AIInfrastructure #PecosSlope #VerticalIntegration #EnergyMarkets #PermianBasin #Semiconductors #PowerGeneration #ProactiveInvestors

160. How Grid Enhancing Technologies Are Expanding Electric Power Transmission System Capabilities

The POWER Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later May 8, 2024 17:13

It's no secret that power grids around the world need to expand to accommodate more renewable energy and the so-called “electrification of everything.” The latter, of course, refers to the growing trend of using electricity to power various sectors and applications that have traditionally relied on fossil fuels, such as natural gas or petroleum-based products. The electrification of everything includes the push toward electric vehicles; the transition from fossil fuel–based heating and cooling systems to electric alternatives, as well as the adoption of electric appliances; and the shift to more electric motors, furnaces, and other electric-powered equipment in manufacturing processes. Add to that the expected power needed to supply data centers and the growth of artificial intelligence-related computing, and current estimates of 50% load growth by 2050 could be vastly understated. Yet, getting new transmission lines planned, approved, and constructed is a daunting task, often taking a decade or longer to complete. So, how can the world more quickly add transmission capacity to the system without investing enormous time and money in the process? The answer: grid enhancing technologies, or GETs. “GETs are exciting to us because they are technologies that help us unlock quickly the additional headroom or additional capability of the grid to carry energy across the system,” Alexina Jackson, vice president of Strategic Development with AES Corp., said as a guest on The POWER Podcast. “This is something that is very important, because today, we are not making the fullest use of the electricity system as it's built.” The system is operated below its maximum capacity for very good reasons, specifically, to maintain reliability, but by implementing GETs, it can be operated closer to its true limits without risk of failure. “Once we have these technologies, such as dynamic line rating, which helps us visualize the dynamic and full headroom of the electrical grid, and then technologies like storage as transmission, advanced power flow control, topology optimization—they all allow us to operate the grid in its dynamic capability. By doing both these things—visualization and operation dynamically—we're able to start making fuller use of that carrying capacity for energy, which will allow us to add additional energy more quickly, serve our customer needs more efficiently, and ultimately decarbonize faster,” Jackson said. It lays out concrete steps that the Department of Defense can take to mitigate civilian harm caused by its operations.   Larry Lewis, Marla Keenan, and Sabrina Verleysen join John Stimpson in this episode. They discuss the CHMR-AP and the decades of work on civilian harm mitigation that made it possible.  Biographies Dr. Larry Lewis is a Principal Research Scientist in CNA's Operations Division. She has conducted high-level advocacy with international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, African Union, and NATO. Sabrina Verleysen is a Senior Specialist in Strategic Development and brings expertise in government relations and Indonesian civilian-military relations. She supports the CHM portfolio as an analyst, builds partnerships, and convenes interagency stakeholders to improve information sharing and collaboration on CHMR.  Further Reading DOD: Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan CNA: Civilian Harm Mitigation
