This is the Catchup on 3 Things by The Indian Express and I'm Ichha Sharma.Today is the 22th of November and here are this week's headlines.Karnataka's Anti-Naxal Force shot and killed fugitive Naxal leader Vikram Gowda in a gunbattle on Monday night in Udupi. The 44-year-old had been a key member of the banned CPI (Maoist) group, considered one of the last remaining major Naxal leaders from Karnataka. His death follows the 2021 arrest of another top leader, B.G. Krishnamurthy. With Gowda's death, the remaining underground Naxals in Karnataka come down to just seven, including four women.Delhi's air quality hit alarming levels early Tuesday, with an AQI of 492, placing the capital in the "severe-plus" category. Certain areas, including Alipur and Anand Vihar, surpassed the 500 mark. This means Delhi residents are breathing in pollutants equivalent to 50 cigarettes a day, posing serious health risks to everyone, not just those with pre-existing conditions. The government has implemented its highest emergency measures, and the Supreme Court has ordered these actions to remain in place until further notice. Additionally, Delhi's Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced a 50% work-from-home policy for both private and government offices due to severe air pollution. As polling concluded in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, urban voter ahpathy remained a challenge for the Election Commission, which frequently ran campaigns to encourage people to come out in large numbers and vote. Despite being the state's largest city and the country's financial and entertainment hub, Mumbai recorded the lowest vote turnout at 51.27 per cent, just 1 per cent higher than 48.4 per cent turnout in 2019. Meanwhile, Gadchiroli saw the highest turnout at 69.63 per cent. In Jharkhand, Jamtara recorded the highest turnout at 76.16 per cent, while Bo-ka-ro had the lowest at 60.97 per cent. After casting his vote in Thane, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his confidence in securing a thumping victory in the ongoing Assembly polls. Shinde said, quote “People have seen their two-and-a-half years of rule vis-a-vis the work done by us in the same amount of time. People will vote for development and for the work done by us,” unquote. In a major legal development, US prosecutors have indicted Gautam Adani, the chairman of Adani Group, along with seven others, accusing them of orchestrating a $250 million bribery scheme. The charges allege the group bribed Indian officials to secure power contracts in India. Alongside the indictment, the US SEC is seeking penalties and a jury trial for Adani and his associates, citing their operations in the US and impact on American investors. The political war over the Adani bribery case heats up as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accuses the Indian government of supporting Gautam Adani, who was indicted in the US for allegedly offering over $200 million in bribes. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra hit back, accusing Congress of destabilizing Indian markets with false propaganda. He questioned why Congress-ruled states had welcomed Adani's investments despite the controversy. On the global front, Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from its southern Astrakhan region in an attack against Ukraine. Kyiv's air force said this is the first time since the war broke out that Russia has used a long-range missile. Meanwhile, Ukraine on Wednesday said that Russia hit it with a “a massive information-psychological attack” by dispersing fake warning, alledgedly from Ukrainian military intelligence, about an imminent mass air attack. Following the Main Directorate of Intelligence's statement Reuters reported, quote “This message is a fake, it contains grammatical errors typical of Russian information and psychological operations,” unquoteThis was the Catch Up on 3 Things by The Indian Express.

This revision of Russia's nuclear strategy comes on the 1,000th day of the war in Ukraine. In 1947, India gained independence with a per capita of around $2000(adjusted with inflation). But over the next few decades, the govt adopted socialist policies, emphasising self-sufficiency and state-led development. As a result, India's economy grew at a slower pace of 3.5% per year.In 1991, India introduced a series of reforms— liberalisation, privatisation, and globalisation. India's growth rate picked up, and by 2023, India's per capita GDP was back to $2,600, driven by market-friendly policies and increased global trade. In this episode of the NEON Show, Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Executive Director at the IMF, explains how India can become a $55 trillion economy by 2047.To learn more read India @100 : Envisioning Tomorrow's Economic Powerhouse  Connect with Krishnamurthy Subramanian Linkedin |  Twitter---------Timestamp01:20 – The power of compounding in GDP04:55 – Chess game story that explains the power of compounding06:19 – Rule of 72 to understand how money doubles09:06 – How India will become a $55 trillion economy by 204712:33 – Thalinomics to understand inflation14:20 – What is money in economic terms?17:22 – Why was the inflation-targeting regime introduced post-1991?20:30 – Inflation's effects on currency26:42 – How does a currency react to economic shocks?30:34 – India's GDP in 1947 vs today31:28 – How socialist policies potentially held India back34:40 – Capitalism has always been in India's DNA44:31 – How socialist policies have hurt Indian farmers57:22 – Is agriculture a state subject?59:59 – How India's growth is linked to productivity01:09:30 – China's GDP vs India's GDP01:16:48 – Why India is a top investment destination01:26:10 – Indian startups should innovate differently-------------Hi, I am your host Siddhartha! Today's witness was found online. Someone close to me is having some issues with his heart and so I wanted to find a healing story that had to do with the heart. When we can hear that others have been healed of a similar thing that we are praying for then our faith is built up that we or our loved ones will be healed too. Today I am sharing the story of David and what happened when he went to the doctor for his heart.I pray this story gives you hope that God will answer your prayers too! Here is his story in his own words.I don't know if you have personally experienced a miraculous healing, but I have. I was fifty-six years old, and every Friday afternoon that autumn, I worked out with a trainer. Like many personal trainers, Vileka Fisher started each session by checking my weight and blood pressure. Some variations are normal. My blood pressure, however, climbed for seven weeks straight, topping out at 203/143. At that point, she fired me. Literally.“I'm not going to have you die on me,” Vileka told me. “You have to go to your doctor immediately.” In turn, Dr. Guesly Dessieux quickly ordered two sets of tests. The next day, they took extensive, continuous images of my heart at rest. The following day, they took extensive, continuous images of my heart after a lengthy and very fast-paced run on an industrial-sized treadmill. The Dreaded Post-Exam Phone CallOn Friday, October 23, 2015, I received the proverbial day-after phone call. On Tuesday, October 27, I met with my “new best friend,” interventional cardiologist Dr. Barath Krishnamurthy, to find out how extensively my heart was damaged and what next steps were ahead for both of us. The damage to the front middle and front lower-right areas of my heart, he said, was significantly worse than expected for a man my age.Dr. Krishnamurthy scheduled me to report to Salem Hospital as soon as possible. He said he would start with an angiogram. If the damage wasn't too severe, he planned to insert stents. Then again, if the damage was severe, he planned to perform double bypass surgery.“When would you do that bypass surgery?” I asked, feeling more anxious and nervous than I'd felt in a long time.“Right then and there,” he replied. “There's no time to waste. You could have a heart attack any day.”That last comment wasn't reassuring, but he had my attention!Afterward, I remembered how good it is that we can thank God daily for His sovereignty (greatness), providence (goodness and guidance), holiness (glory), love (graciousness), and mystery (“God alone knows”).Most of the time during those next few days, I was prayerful and at peace. Then again, I couldn't forget Dr. Krishnamurthy's comments that recovery from an angiogram and stents would take a few days. Recovery from double bypass surgery, though, could take six to eight weeks, maybe longer.By phone, Facebook, and e-mail, my wife (Renée) and I asked those close to us to pray for a routine, boring, and ultimately successful angiogram.A couple of hours after checking into Salem Hospital on November 5, 2015, I was wheeled into surgery. According to plan, I lost consciousness shortly after meeting the five members of my cardiologist's team.Miraculous News Came after SurgeryWhen I woke up in recovery, my cardiologist walked in looking stunned. “This never happens,” he said. “You heart looks great. I couldn't find any damage anywhere. Not even plaque.” It rarely happens, he explained, that two separate days of radioactive imaging would clearly, and yet incorrectly, show substantive damage in two separate areas of the heart.Bottom line: no damage, no stents, and no double bypass surgery.Renée was quick to call it a miracle. When I confided that I wasn't ready to use that word, she asked why. “Well, I had just woken up in recovery. What if I misunderstood what Dr. Krishnamurthy told me?”On November 25, I returned to Salem Cardiovascular to meet with my cardiologist. He had been called away for an emergency heart procedure and asked one of his associates, Masen Martin, to meet with me. I explained the purpose of my visit. Then I told Masen (as she prefers to be called) that when Dr. Krishnamurthy talked with me in recovery, he looked pretty much stunned.“Stunned?” she exclaimed. “You were the surprise of the year!”She paused and then went on. “Frankly, it left all of us here pretty rattled. The imaging is proof positive that you needed either stents or double bypass surgery. But the angiogram imaging a few days later is proof positive that your heart has absolutely no damage anywhere. Not even a trace of plaque anywhere in or around your heart.” I had the heart of a teenager again. Medically and scientifically, that's not supposed to be possible. In other words, Renée was right. It truly was a miracle. Then again, it was a miracle that caught me by surprise. Yes, hundreds prayed, but not for this outcome.Louise the Prayer Warrior and Her God-Sized PrayersThat next Sunday, November 29, a super quiet, very introverted, yet lovely older friend of mine named Louise came up to me before church. I was talking with the oldest member of our congregation when Louise walked up, smiling from ear to ear. Radiating pure joy, she said, “It was me!” I didn't know what she meant, so I didn't say a word.Louise told me, “I was the one who prayed for your complete heart healing. I even asked God to prove it was a miracle because they couldn't find even one speck of plaque anywhere in your heart.”I felt like jumping up and giving Louise a big hug, but I simply said, “Thank you! Thank you so much!” with a huge smile on my face.Later that day, though, I wrestled with two tough and troubling questions: Why could Louise pray that God-sized prayer and fully expect Him to answer? And why didn't I pray for my own heart healing? My prayer of faith that afternoon has been life-changing: “Lord, please help me to pray like Louise. It's scary, and I don't know why that is, but I want to learn how to pray God-sized prayers like her.”After this experience, God's grace became much more real and powerful to me. I was and am deeply grateful to God and my dear friend, Louise. Since then, I have been empowered by God and determined to positively impact other lives by sharing my experience and encouraging others to pray more boldly. I tell this story wherever I'm invited to speak. I also take time to pray for and keep in touch with audience members who request prayer for healing.Yes, sometimes I'm nervous. Sometimes I wonder, “Who am I to pray in this way for this person's healing?” Then I remember Louise and seek to pray a God-sized prayer the way she would. I then stay in touch to find out what God does. The results have been amazing! There is no question in my mind that we can stand on God's promises and expect miracles.Thank you, David, for sharing your story with the world so that we can all see the miraculous powers of the Lord at work in the world. Thank you for learning to pray God-size prayers. Thank you for being brave and praying those God-sized prayers over your audience and over those you meet. The world needs more people brave enough to pray God-sized prayers! A few years ago, Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy had set a target of 40% growth across all categories for Flipkart. But in 2023, it was still stuck at 20%. So the company is now on a mission. It wants to push growth, gain market share, and turn a profit. So in January 2024, Flipkart's top execs along with the CEO came together for a meeting to outline a roadmap for 2024. Krishnamurthy wanted Flipkart to introduce a loyalty programme for top spenders, give out more incentives to ensure customer loyalty, push up transaction numbers and average order sizes, and also focus on brands. In the same meeting he also admitted that the company had faced quite a few hurdles the previous year but he was sure they'd make a comeback and hit profitability before the IPO.But here's the thing, prepping for an IPO often has long term effects on a company's culture. And the cracks are already beginning to appear inside Flipkart.Tune in.**This episode was first published on 6 May, 2024

It might be very provoking for you to read! What is enlightenment? When a guy is getting enlightenment, his ego will be destroyed and be transformed to the divine. Afterward, his whole life will emerge in the divine, everything would be selfless, and he would have no Ego anymore! In the last months of his life, Osho (Bhagwan) finally admitted that: The Ego could not be destroyed, only "observed."Krishnamurthy said simple, there is no enlightenment.Sri Aurobindo said until we have a body, we have an Ego. The Srimad Bhagavatam said, there exist nobody on this planet, who doesn't have all three Gunas. All three Gunas are an ego, we can only improve our ego.And there is nothing mentioned on the enlightenment in the Srimad Bhagavatam or other old religion books, for instance, the famous Sufi book: The conference of the birds. Ramakrishna said we can't kill this rascal of Ego. Instead, we use our Ego to serve God. Ramakrishna remained his whole life humble and said about himself, that he is only the servant of the servants of God. That means Ramakrishna served his devotees and his devotees should serve God.Why we can't destroy our Ego or a part of our Ego? Because our ego is so hard-wired into our brain and our whole body. For instance, if we speak, we use our ego, without ego, we can't talk. We can not guarantee to survive without Ego. We can free us from our ego and connect with the divine for a particular time.-  With Meditation, dancing, music, chanting is this possible.  Through the spiritual path, we can lose a part of our attachments to our ego. We can't get rid of all of our attachments! This means we all have to monitor and improve our ego our whole life, and that forget these so called enlightenment people, avatars. They become arrogant and ignorant of their ego, greedy and fall from their spirituality. The next lie is to transform our sexual drive. Our brain is mainly focused on procreation because nature needs children. What is if we live in celibacy? Then we suppress our sex drive with our mind. What we suppress that will grow. After some time, our suppressed sex can cause diseases, can get perverted or simply explode in craving of sex. I by myself could live easy in Celibacy for 10 years because I raised up my energy from my sex center!!!  When I had an accident, my back could not heal, because of my suppressed sex. And then I have healed my back with my sex energy (Chi Gong, Mantak Chia). All these great famous Gurus at least from the last 200 years have exploited and cheated the mass, not so the unknown Gurus, like Ramakrishna, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan… The great famous Gurus, Saints are making a beautiful holy show, and the insider will tell you how unholy and selfish they are! (see the books reference about the famous Gurus, written from their dearest devotees, at the end). The spiritual enlightenment was a great marketing idea to exploit and cheat the people. The Zen masters even sold enlightenment certificates!Nevertheless, the Enlightenment trip was necessary to motivate, to meditate and go further. The so-called enlightenment Gurus and seriously devotees are getting over the inner path the divine inner voice. With this inner voice, they get all the information that is necessary for their specific inner path. Also, they have to obey to 100% to the divine inner voice. If they follow up, they will grow continuously on the inner path. If not, they will become evil people and will exploit others... I by myself had the fortune to get the Kundalini/spiritual-awakening very fast, with 29 years. Since this time, I have lost my body identification (still, I keep my body healthy) got my divine inner voice and many other spiritual goodies. I have obeyed to 100% my divine inner voice. Sometimes it was/is so difficult to follow my divine inner voice, because I have to do things that are contradicting my thinking/faith system. Nevertheless, my life got better and better. For me is it so easy to get blissfully. And I can teach you that! My video: There doesn't exist spiritual enlightenment! https://youtu.be/sIib6DIyVNAMy Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast.A/there-doesn't-exist-spiritual-enligthenment.mp3Here the insider information about Osho, for free, packed with all necessary details: http://meditation-handbook.50webs.com/osho2.htmlBooks about Osho: Bhagwan: The God That Failed, by Hugh Milne, Promise of Paradise: … by Satya Bharti Franklin,Don't kill him, by Ma Anand Sheela.About Mata Amritananda Mai Devi: “Holy Hell: A Memoir of Faith, Devotion, and Pure Madness” by Gail TredwellAbout Sri Chinmoy: “ Cartwheel in a Sari” by Jayanti TammA book about Maharaji Guru: Without the Guru: How I took my life back after thirty years, by Dr Michael Robert Finch (Chauffeur from Maharaji)Video in Deutsch Es gibt keine Erleuchtung: https://youtu.be/UEaCvpRWNcA

8 Books to Read in 2024: Winter Edition

Welcome to Bri Books! From sexy fiction to fascinating history, here's a look at what I'm reading in 2024. For a book lover, the new year is the definition of a blank slate. The books of 2024 offer escapes of all kinds. Below, I'vm nominating 8 books I can't wait to read in January and February. In this episode, I'm rounding up 8 titles I can't wait to read. 1:05: ‘From Slave Cabins to the White House: Homemade Citizenship in African American Culture' by Koritha Mitchell. I'm a cottagecore princess, and I wanted to get to the roots of domesticity in the US. In high school I was obsessed with domestic/ Victorian values during the Industrial Revolution, and noticed the glaring absence of free Black American women from this history. But that doesn't mean we weren't there. In the book, Koritha Mitchell analyzes canonical texts by and about African American women to lay bare the hostility these women face as they invest in traditional domesticity. Tracing how African Americans define and redefine success in a nation determined to deprive them of it, Mitchell plumbs the works of Frances Harper, Zora Neale Hurston, Lorraine Hansberry, Toni Morrison, Michelle Obama, and others. These artists honor black homes from slavery and post-emancipation through the Civil Rights era to "post-racial" America. Mitchell follows black families asserting their citizenship in domestic settings while the larger society and culture marginalize and attack them, not because they are deviants or failures but because they meet American standards. ‘From Slave Cabins to the White House' illuminates the links between African American women's homemaking and citizenship in history and across literature. 4:15: ‘The Temp Economy: From Kelly Girls to Permatemps in Postwar America' by Erin Hatton. Everyone knows that work in America is not what it used to be. Layoffs, outsourcing, contingent work, disappearing career ladders—these are the new workplace realities for an increasing number of people. But why? In ‘The Temp Economy,' Erin Hatton takes one of the best-known icons of the new economy—the temp industry—and finds that it is more than just a symbol of this degradation of work. Succinct, highly readable, and drawn from a vast historical record of industry documents, ‘The Temp Economy' is a one-stop resource for anyone interested in the temp industry or the degradation of work in postwar America. 6:50: ‘New York, New York, New York: Four Decades of Success, Excess, and Transformation' by Thomas Dyja. A lively, immersive history by an award-winning urbanist of New York City's transformation, and the lessons it offers for the city's future. Dyja's sweeping account of this metamorphosis shows it wasn't the work of a single policy, mastermind, or economic theory, nor was it a morality tale of gentrification or crime. Instead, three New Yorks evolved. Dyja weaves New Yorkers famous, infamous, and unknown—Yuppies, hipsters, tech nerds, and artists; community organizers and the immigrants who made this a truly global place—into a narrative of a city creating ways of life that would ultimately change cities everywhere. 9:12: ‘Fashion Killa: How Hip-Hop Revolutionized High Fashion' by music journalist Sowmya Krishnamurthy was released in October of 2023. A cinematic narrative of glamour, grit, luxury, and luck, ‘Fashion Killa' draws on exclusive interviews with the leaders of the fashion world to tell the story of the hip-hop artists, designers, stylists, and unsung heroes who fought the power and reinvented style around the world over the last fifty years. In the book, Krishnamurthy explores the connections between the DIY hip-hop scene and the exclusive upper-echelons of high fashion. She discusses the sociopolitical forces that defined fashion and tracks the influence of music and streetwear on the most exclusive (and exclusionary) luxury brands. At the intersection of cultural commentary and oral history, ‘Fashion Killa' commemorates the contributions of hip-hop to music, fashion, and our culture at large. 11:10: ‘Prayer and Our Bodies' by Flora Slosson Wuellner. Written in 1987, this book explores the very real relationship that exists between the bodily self and the spiritual self. Readers will heighten their awareness of the interactions among body, mind, and spirit. If you're someone who struggles to appreciate your body, this book is an important touchstone toward healing our relationships with ourselves and others. It talks about how prayer isn't just what we say, but how we live our lives. Flora Slosson Wuellner, a retired ordained minister of the United Church of Christ, is well known throughout the United States and Europe for her writings and retreat leadership that focus on the inner healing that God freely offers through Christ. She has written 14 books on inner healing and renewal. 12:36: ‘You Learn By Living: Eleven Keys for a More Fulfilling Life' by Eleanor Roosevelt. This wise and intimate book on how to get the most of out life was gifted to me by a lovely friend named Carrie. At the age of seventy-six, Roosevelt penned this simple guide to living a fuller life—a powerful volume of enduring commonsense ideas and heartfelt values. Offering her own philosophy on living, she takes readers on a path to compassion, confidence, maturity, civic stewardship, and more. 14:30: ‘The Pillow Book' by Sei Shonagon. Written by 10th century court gentlewoman Sei Shonagon, ostensibly for her own amusement, ‘The Pillow Book' offers a fascinating exploration of life among the nobility at the height of the Heian period, describing the exquisite pleasures of a confined world in which poetry, love, fashion, and whim dominated, while harsh reality was kept firmly at a distance. Moving elegantly across a wide range of themes including nature, society, and her own flirtations, Sei Shonagon provides a witty and intimate window on a woman's life at court in classical Japan. 16:30: ‘Homebodies' by Tembe Denton-Hurst is already a fantastic read. An insightful, propulsive, and deeply sexy debut novel about a young Black writer whose world is turned upside down when she loses her coveted job in media and pens a searing manifesto about racism in the industry. A meditation on identity, self-worth and the toll of corporate racism, Homebodies is a portrait of modern Black womanhood with a protagonist you won't soon forget.

She has led large scale digital transformations and has managed teams across the globe. In this episode, Amanda sits down with Rajamma to discuss enabling HR through AI, tackling biases, and improving the employee lifecycle with AI.-------------------“Think of AI as your caddie that's going to walk in with all of your golf clubs. They will even tell you which iron to take out and hit the golf ball with. But, you are the one that needs to decide which iron and where, how fast and how big you hit, and you need to make that hole in one. AI is going to be of tremendous help in all the burdensome aspects of your work. But, you have to take whatever AI gives, you have to judge it and you have to make a good judgment call based on that. And you have to then implement it in your area. Oracles are an essential part of how real-world data gets integrated into DeFi smart contracts, but historically, that process has been fraught with challenges. In this episode, Jayant Krishnamurthy (Duoro Labs) explains how Pyth is addressing these challenges and redefining how a blockchain oracle can work. Originally built on Solana's L1, Pyth is a low-latency, high-frequency oracle that has expanded beyond the Solana ecosystem and now provides data feeds for over 30 blockchains. The way it does this is through Pythnet – the first network to deploy the Solana codebase for an application specific blockchain.  DISCLAIMER The content herein is provided for educational, informational, and entertainment purposes only, and does not constitute an offer to sell or a solicitation of an offer to buy any securities, options, futures, or other derivatives related to securities in any jurisdiction, nor should not be relied upon as advice to buy, sell or hold any of the foregoing. Today's conversation is with Prem Krishnamurthy, designer, author, and educator. His multifaceted work explores the role of art as an agent of transformation at an individual, collective, and structural level. This manifests itself in books, exhibitions, images, performances, publications, systems, talks, texts, and workshops. He is one of those thinkers and makers whose brain is spinning out ideas and reflections as fast as you can absorb them. And I appreciate so much his emphasis on the importance of embracing juxtaposition as a prerequisite not only for artistic creativity but also as a key ingredient for healthy civic life. He argues that there is no singular America, but instead a multiplicity of Americas just as there is no singular individual: we are all collections of paradox and competing interests. We also talk about the ways in which the world will forever be hybrid, there's no going back to the old technologies. And how do we take what we learned from the "zoomacene" (his word) and build that into the ways in which we come together now. This conversation, and it was very much a conversation more an interview, was a joy. And I hope you find it to be inspiring and nourishing as well.

Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 released a little over a week ago and has taken the box office by storm. A critical and commercial success, the film has attracted a wide demographic to the theatres. Largely due to its source - Kalki R. Krishnamurthy's serialized novel Ponniyin Selvan published in the 1950s, a historical fiction based on the Cholas and the conflicts within and outside the kingdom for the throne. The film, like most Mani Ratnam films, is also an example of technical mastery which is one of the attractions for widespread theatre viewing with almost no one choosing to wait for the streaming release like it is the norm of late. The film is star studded - Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarath Kumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Lal, Prakash Raj and more. There are stars behind the camera as well apart from the director and writing team (Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan and Elango Kumaravel). It is edited by Sreekar Prasad, art direction by Thotta Tharani with cinematography by Ravi Varman. Music is by A.R Rahman and sound design by Anand Krishnamoorthi.
