Hello people welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast how are you I hope you're all well. We are back and have a really fun episode to share. This is episode 61 and features GK and Hannah from the predominantly Yorkshire based band Venus Grrrls. We caught up at the delightful Brudenell Social Club in Leeds a few days before their first headline gig there - which if you're listening at any point before 8pm on Saturday 10th February 2024, you can still get along to. Venus Grrrls have been on my list to chat to for a while but due to a global pandemic and GK's leukaemia diagnosis either of which could have been the end of the band, we have only just been able to make this happen. We discuss both GK and Hannah's history with music how the band came to be and unlock the secret to building and maintaining a loyal fan base. I had a great chatting to these two and I hope you enjoy listening. They are setting 2024 up to be a busy year with support dates with The Sprints and festival slots already in the calendar so keep a look out. Links to all their social media and YouTube channels are in the description of this episode, I strongly recommend you check them out along with their latest track Divine, which has been described as a lusty grunge storm of a single and already getting support from Radio 1, radio x and 6 music amongst other. It's absolute treat. Divine: VENUS GRRRLS - Divine (Official Video)https://www.facebook.com/VENUSGRRRLS@venusgrrrls Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

NBA All-Star and 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist Chris Paul joins Writing Black to discuss the vulnerability it took to write his book "Sixty-One." The book centers on the impact Paul's grandfather had on him. Affectionately known as "Papa," he was tragically murdered at the age of 61, the day after Paul signed his letter of intent to play college basketball at Wake Forest. Paul talks about writing the book during the pandemic as the country was going through racial turmoil following the death of George Floyd. He also touches on his commitment to criminal justice reform and the impact mass incarceration has had on Black Americans. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

[TRANSCRIPT] [click, static] Hey, Birdie. [click, static] It is really goddamn late. And goddamned dark. I wanted to wait for the worst of the heat of the day to pass before hiking back to the car, but I think I miscalculated, because I've been hiking in the dark for way too long. Not that it's been so hot here, but the sun is strong. All that big sky, I guess. The sun is strong and my skin is pale. All my freckles are popping out like it's the middle of summer not October. I've been out in the wild for the last couple of days. I packed up my backpack after the last transmission and set out into the great unknown. I mean, not entirely unknown—I'm not stupid, I made sure to get a map of the area I'm in, but just 10 minutes on foot away from where I parked the car, and I felt like I was in some version of the world that had never had any people in it at all. Any semblance of a hiking trail is long gone but the terrains not that bad, especially now with my new boots. I don't know how far into the wild I got exactly. I walked for a couple of hours so a few miles at least, but I found this beautiful spot by this little pond with this little waterfall, sunlight streaming through the trees. I set up camp there and slept under the stars for a few nights. And with being by the pond I can actually see the sky—it wasn't blocked out by the treetops. My god, the stars. I guess I haven't looked up in a while because I was shocked by how many there were. I mean, there hasn't been light pollution in six years, so I think probably most of the sky in the whole country is like this, but I guess I've never really looked. I wish I knew something about the constellations. I know the big dipper and Orion‘s belt and the little dipper and I think I found Polaris? Although I don't know, is it even the right time of year to see Polaris? Can you see it all year round? Can you see it from the hemisphere I'm in? I don't know. Clearly I don't know anything at all about the night sky. But it does make me wonder…you know, are there any other people up there on those other planets somewhere amongst the stars? I think—I think we were pretty close to actually, you know, exploring space. We got people up there at least, even if they just you know, spun around a bit and came back. But that in of itself…I mean, that felt insurmountable when I was younger. So who knows what we could've accomplished with more time. [click, static] But it's a really nice thought—that we're not alone in the universe. Not in a god way or any kind of higher power way, just…it's lonely. All of it. [click, static]

Sansa flees the scene of the crime with Ser Dontos. After a scary climb she's rowed to deliverance - which turns out to come with a familiar (although not totally friendly) face. Simon and Mackelly consider her future.Chapter Review:Sansa Stark races to the Godswood where she has hidden a change of clothes. When she takes her hair net off, she realizes a black amethyst is missing and gets a sinking feeling in her stomach that it's somehow related to King Joffrey's death. Dontos arrives and denies that the hair net had anything to do with Joff's death. He choked on pie.Dontos leads her out of the castle to a cliff where a secret ladder has been cut out of the stone that leads to the river below. When the pair make down safely, they find a man waiting to row them out to safety. When the little boat reaches a ship, a stunned Sansa discovers Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish waiting for her. Dontos, who stayed behind to row himself back to the castle, asks for his reward of 10,000 gold dragons. Instead, he's killed by three crossbow bolts.Littlefinger explains to a highly-upset Sansa that Dontos did what he did at Littlefinger's command and did so because he was being handsomely paid. Once he'd drunk this payday, he'd sell Sansa again to Varys or Cersei. When Sansa asks why Littlefinger would want to hurt the Lannisters, who gave him so much, he responds that he had no motive. He likes to keep his foes confused. He says he loved Sansa's mother Catelyn and thinks in a different world Sansa might've been his daughter. He tells Sansa to forget about the Lannisters, Tyrion, and King's Landing. She's safe with him and sailing home.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Sansa Stark - Elder daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark. Forcibly married to Tyrion.Ser Dontos Hollard - Drunken jester of King Joffrey, but friend to Sansa.Lord Petyr Baelish - Former member of the Small Council, now lord of Harrenhal. Understood to be in the Vale seeking an alliance with Lysa Arryn.Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister. Brother to queen Cersei and Jamie Lannister. Master of Coin. Now accused of murdering King Joffrey.King Joffrey Baratheon - King Joffrey Baratheon First of His Name. Bastard son of Jaime Lannister and his twin sister Queen Cersei. Killed at his wedding feast. If you've gotten this far, you know what we're all about and I'm not gonna pretend like you don't. Well, I am, in the episode itself I am, yes, but for this short description and time-stamp list, I'm gonna be a cock and say that you're fine, everything is fine, listen to the episode: it's fine. Michael Wilbon talks about the Suns and his book about Chris Paul, titled “Sixty-One”. Then Sean Harvey & Peter Nicks talk about their documentary “Stephen Curry: Underrated.” The post June 29th Podcast: Michael Wilbon, Sean Harvey & Peter Nicks first appeared on Sports360AZ.
Washington Post sports columnist Jerry Brewer speaks with NBA All-Star Chris Paul about his new memoir “Sixty-One,” which details the lessons he learned from his grandfather, how his family shaped his desire to give back and his activism as an athlete.
Chris Paul is one of the greatest basketball players of all time: a 12-time NBA All-Star, an All-Star Game MVP, 2-time Olympic gold medalist. NBA Rookie of the Year, and Players Association President between 2013 - 2021. Off the court, Chris is a family man, entrepreneur, activist, and philanthropist. His new book "Sixty-One" hits bookstores everywhere this week. This is a conversation about work-ethic, grit, mentorship, and leadership. We discuss his grandfather's impact on his life, the demands of mastery, how to sustain elite performance over time, what leadership means, how Chris' plant-based diet has improved his performance, and the many ways Chris has leveraged his voice, platform, and resources for maximum social impact. It was an absolute pleasure and honor to talk with a man I respect tremendously. I hope you enjoy this powerful and valuable episode. Opening up about these moments, sharing how he's celebrated the good and learned from the bad, dealt with the heart aches of loss, injury, trades and the passing of his friend Kobe Bryant, Chris doesn't shy away from answering tough questions and setting the record straight on rumors over the years and giving us a court side seat to his 18+ years of evolving as a man and teammate to earn the respect and carry on making the name on the back of his jersey one we will never forget. Reflecting on childhood moments that helped shape him as the man he is today, Chris emotionally remembers the strength and work ethic he learned at an early age from his grandfather who he tributes so much of his growth and success to. Scoring 61 points after his grandfather's passing in his honor seemed serendipitous to the story of family and the foundation he would continue to build upon as his career and life evolved. Recognizing how fortunate he was to grow up with both his parents and maintain a close bond, Chris has prided himself in always being a hands on dad and takes that job the most serious and with the most joy. And of course Channing couldn't let CP slide without asking him about the infamous Banana Boat photos that surfaced years ago…definitely don't want to miss this one! Learn more about your ad choices. Meanwhile, as the morning turned to afternoon, Fiona's brother Samuel had begun to grow concerned. It was getting late- much later than Fiona's normal home time. She'd missed her meal and it was extremely out of character for her to do so without letting Samuel know. Samuel decided to to go to the farm to see if he could find her. He arrived at the farm and started to check the barn and stables. As he turned into one he saw a figure, lying on their back, disfigured by stab wounds and covered in blood. Baywatch, the series, was once the most watched television show in the world. Baywatch, the movie, was...well...not the most watched movie of 2017, to put it lightly. So, what went wrong? Did they simply wait too long to make a Baywatch movie? Was it a bad idea to go the tongue-in-cheek parody route? Or could the problem perhaps lie with the lead actor, Dwayne Johnson, who - despite his oft-repeated "Franchise Viagra" reputation - failed to rescue this one from the choppy box office waters.
