    43. Partners in Marriage & Business with Catherine Gray

Play Episode Listen Later May 25, 2022 50:41

In This Episode Catherine Gray aims to bring value into this world. By seeing how G-d is involved in our day-to-day lives, and even in business, she is able to help others as a coach and entrepreneur. She and her husband, James, run an engraving business. There isn't one right way to be in a marriage, or run a business. Catherine shares the learning curve of figuring out who was in charge of what in their business by being self-aware and having a vision. Highlights 1:08 Catherine Gray is a coach and entrepreneur. She and her husband, James, have an engraving business, which they started in 2017. It was a learning curve figuring out who was in charge of what, but they knew their strengths and had a vision. 11:20 Lately, Catherine has been taking more of a back seat in her business with her husband so that she can focus on her coaching business. James is very supportive of her other business. 13:07 It can be challenging for Catherine and James to compartmentalize home-life and date-life but she gets help from other friends or couples in businesses on how to adjust. However, Rebbetzin Bat-Chen emphasizes that there is no right way. It is important to find what works for you. 19:11 It is not that difficult to find time between being a mother, wife, and business owner for Catherine because she knows herself well. She is aware of her work ethic, and believes her brain works strategically naturally. 21:14 As a Coach, Catherine's main audience is made of entrepreneurs, churches, and charity leaders. She uses the Clifton Strengths Assessment and help people find their calling. She sometimes uses the Clifton Strengths Assessment on her husband as well. 33:27 G-d is involved in a lot of things in our lives, and has even impacted Catherine's businesses in one way or another. Highlights 00:50 Tamar Field-Gersh is a life coach who works with women and brings out their self-love. 04:09 We often have a difficult time loving ourselves and being okay with who we are but Tamar reassures us that we should be loving ourselves every day, just as we do others. When we work on ourselves and love ourselves more, we can love others even better. 09:03 You would not call your friend the “harsh” things you tell yourself. Our dialogue with ourselves is the juice of life and this where our lives can take a different turn. The following is one of the many conversations I had with experts and professionals about real life and how it affects marriage. Let me know your takeaways on Instagram or Facebook, @connectedforreal. Enjoy. And we are live. Hi everyone. I want to tell you why I'm doing the Marriage Breakthrough Retreat, and if you have not heard until now the Marriage Breakthrough Retreat is starting on Monday and it's epic. Why I know it's epic is because I've done it before and this one is actually going to be even more amazing because I myself have transformed I had a lot of growth, I have experienced amazing cool things so it's just normal and natural for things to get better when you get better. So why am I doing the Marriage Breakthrough Retreat? First of all, because I want to give it all. I was trying in the beginning of my business to follow all of the advice of all the experts. They tell you, “Make a little thing and give it for free, and then people are going to like it and taste of what you do and then they're going to want to work with you,” so that's basically how you catch people, and it didn't feel right to me. I wasn't very happy with that whole strategy and when I got really, really silent with myself and I listened to what am I actually here to do and what is my purpose, the purpose was really clear. I am here to give it all. I'm not here to give a taste and then leave you hungry. I am not here to entice you into working with me. I am here to help you break through to the next level and the only way I can do that is by giving you the full, full thing. So, I pretty much came up with the seven-day retreat, which is just one hour a day on Zoom and it's easy. It's simple. You could sign up at connectedforreal.com/retreat. So, seven days is how much I felt was the perfect amount and I also looked back to see what got me from feeling resentful and annoyed with my husband and just not really thriving, what got me to get out of my own way and to really align and get in touch with what did G d want for me and where am I going with this. So, I retrospectively put together the CALM Method, which is the method that I used in order to get from there to here and the CALM Method stands for connect to yourself, ask for abundance, listen to the answer, and master a higher level of consciousness, because once you connect yourself and then you ask and then you listen and then you see it's actually moving in the right direction, then you want to keep doing that over and over again and slowly it will get you to a higher level of consciousness, and there's only up from there. Also because I hate that people lose lots of weight and then can't sustain it, or get to a certain goal and then can't keep it up because it's actually easier to do the transformation than to keep the transformation. So that is why it's so important to learn to master it and to keep it alive. Now,

Bayla shares tips on how your husband can support you better so your marriage can become better as you become a new and improved version of yourself. Highlights 00:58 Coach Bayla Abdurachmanov is an identity coach for moms and matressence educator, especially young moms and new moms.   01:29 Matressence is the process of a woman becoming a mother. A lot of times, we associate pregnancy with only physical changes. However, Coach Bayla explains that all areas of life are affected by motherhood, and this is backed up by science. Matressence lasts for a minimum of two years, and women change at each pregnancy. 04:06 There is what Coach Bayla likes to call an identity gap that new mothers experience, where a new mom questions why she feels like she isn't herself. 06:48 It is important to remember that with every birth, we are shifting and moving forward to be better and not who we were before. We must embrace the changes that come with matressence. 07:08 In Rebbetzin Bat-Chen's Marriage Breakthrough Retreat (Day 5) and Intimacy Master Class, she coaches women on how to focus on an ideal situation and become comfortable with change in order to succeed in one's marriage and business. 09:50 The three step process on how women can deal with matressence is called MEE: Meet yourself where you're at, Embrace the change, Embody the vision. 14:48 There is a similarity between the CALM Method that Rebbetzin Bat-Chen discusses in her Marriage Breakthrough Retreat with Coach Bayla's MEE. 27:28 Dreams, children, and marriage should not be in competition with each other. 29:37 Time is your friend. When we focus on ourselves, time is not wasted or taken away from us. It gives us room to grow and create more space to love, just as what Coach Bayla experienced when she was pregnant with her youngest child. 36:33 There is an adjustment period in marriage that can easily be skipped when a couple has a child early in the relationship, and this can be a big stressor on marriage. 45:10 Listen up, husbands! I'm Rebbetzin Bat-Chen Grossman, a marriage coach for women in business, and my mission is to bring God's presence into your life, into your marriage, and into your business. Let's get started. And we are live. Welcome to today's hot topic bonus, and today the topic is Too Much. This is something that comes up a lot. Too much in marriage. “My marriage is so good if I ask for it to be any better, it would be like I'm ungrateful for what I have.” Same thing with our business. “My business is doing so well. If I try to even imagine it being the next level, growing, then am I really ungrateful for what I have.” So there's a big, big difference between gratitude and wanting more, and I don't think that they have to contradict but I know that they feel really icky if they don't sit right. So we're going to talk about that today. So here's what's going on. Basically, I just came back from the class that I am part of with randa tar, who is amazing and we're learning Mesillat Yesharim, which is the path the just—I'm making that up I have no idea how you call that in English. We're learning about really creating space and creating space in order to bring God into it and sort of fill that space right because we want to become more spiritual. We want to be more watchful of what we're doing. We want to live a more aligned life, so we—step one is create space and step two is realizing that the void is part of creation— that God created lack for a reason. He created lack for you to realize you need Him and you need to turn to Him. You need to connect, ask, and bring Him to be part of your life and as a partner in your everyday existence. It's funny because really, if you think about it, our existence is so dependent on Him. We wouldn't be here without Him, but we don't think of it like that on our day-to-day basis. So, what does it mean to create space and lean into that lack? How do we focus on the lack when we've been trained to focus on what's good, focus on what I have, focus on everything that is so that you can be happy?  I even gave a class on this, The Recipe for Happiness, and the answer to what the recipe was 50% gratitude and 50% victories. So,

The following is one of the many conversations I had with experts and professionals about real life and how it affects marriage. Let me know your takeaways on Instagram or Facebook, @connectedforreal. Enjoy. And we are live. Welcome to the Hot Topic Bonus number three. Today we are talking about Technical and Robotic marriages, and this is a huge issue that is coming up over and over again when I am talking to women. Really because we get busy. We have lives things are happening and there are seasons when things just have to get done and we just have to get moving and get through it so things become technical. Who's picking up who? What's going to be for supper? What are we doing about this kid or what are we doing about that issue? The whole thing is fine and that is part of life that you have seasons when things are going to be that way. Just like we talked about survival. There are survival times. There are times when you're just getting through it. There's a hardship, challenge, or something's coming up and you've got to get through it and so it's okay when it's temporary. The issue starts becoming a real issue when it is no longer temporary, when it starts getting like, “It's been too long since we had a conversation,” or, “Have you noticed that we haven't talked about this or that or the other—" “What happened to all those deep meaningful conversations, the play, laughter, the fun and excitement, and all of that warm fuzzy feelings that you used to have? This is all very familiar to anybody who is in a marriage and living life. Pretty much all of us. [Laughs] And so, I want you to— first step is be ready to change it. Be not okay with it being okay anymore because as long as we think this is normal and this is just how life is, and this is how it's going to be, and it's just nothing to do about it, this is how everybody has it, then you're going to feel stuck because you're gonna feel like there's nothing to do about it. The second you bring awareness to the fact that it can be changed and should be changed if it's bothering you—of course, those of you who are happy having technical and boring marriages go ahead enjoy it, but most of us are not and so just bring awareness. “I am not okay with this and I want to change it,” and then it is so easy to change because once you bring awareness to it, that's 50% of the work. Now you just have to figure out what works and move it forward, and for that my friends you should definitely sign up for...

In preparation for the Marriage Breakthrough Retreat, I like to do some hot topic bonuses with things that come up as I am preparing for their retreat and today's topic is Release, Surrender and Let Go. You know how it is they tell you, “You just have to release the need to control,” or, “Just surrender and everything will be okay,” or, “Let go and let God,” which is one of my favorites but how, right? Well, I sort of get that that's the ideal or what I'm supposed to be doing but how do I do this? Or even better, “Easier said than done,” right? It's sort of too much expectations on ourselves and then you beat yourself up for not surrendering or for not knowing how. So, I want to tell you a little bit about how I had surrendered recently. I want to give you first an analogy, so the analogy goes like this. So, you have this expert who is looking over your shoulder and he's going to tell you what to do. He starts telling you, “Okay, so go into the Settings,” and he has to start explaining to you how to do that. Go to the apple, click Preferences, go into Settings, blah, blah, blah, and it's just taking longer and you're trying to find your way in this world of tech that you may be very techy but maybe this isn't your specialty, and it's going slow but you're learning and you're getting there until you finally get so frustrated, you're like, “Okay, nevermind. Planning ahead helps control stress and allows your day to run smoothly.16:50 Decision fatigue happens when you get exhausted from making decisions. Rebbetzin Bat-Chen uses if-then systems to plan ahead and is her key to success.18:11 The first video uploaded on Connected for Real's YouTube page is all about Rebbetzin Bat-Chen's journey of working on herself to stop that all-or-nothing nature and doing just one thing: prayer.19:49 Everyone has their one thing. During the Marriage Breakthrough Retreat, one of the participants shared what they do to create their system.20:34 A listener and friend of Rebbetzin Bat-Chen asks Helen the question: How to have a cleaning up session? Three-year-old doesn't want to help with his mess and it will take less time to clean it up myself, but on the other hand, we miss on the concept of cleanup after you play.21:58 From one parent to another, believing in your child is so important in parenting. Trust that your child will do what needs to be done when he/she is ready, whether it is to clean up or make bigger decisions.24:58 Helen is asked what to do when you're a night person, and your husband is a morning person. This has a lot to do with time management because not everyone is in the zone at the same times of the day.28:53 Hashem made us different on purpose. It is natural to be different from your spouse because you learn skills, tools, and abilities from each other.31:13 Women can forget to put themselves first, even in the littlest of things, such as food.32:05 The woman is the center of her world, and marriage revolves around her. If a wife doesn't prioritize herself, everything can fall apart.33:27 In coaching sessions with Helen where clients say that they don't have time, they examine their weekly schedule and what they do.
