Episode 32: Role Reversal – When the Child Becomes the Caregiver with Tiffany Cardwell When a person has a stroke, life changes for family members as well. Host Rosa Hart is joined by Tiffany Cardwell, who shares a deeply personal journey of love, responsibility and unexpected role reversal after her father experienced a stroke while traveling overseas. What began as a season filled with travel plans quickly turned into a crisis when her father suddenly was stranded in the Philippines, requiring rehabilitation before he could make the long journey home. Tiffany opens up about the emotional toll of navigating her father's stroke from afar, the stress of coordinating international medical care and the moment she realized she had become her father's primary caregiver. She shares candidly about the heartbreak of watching her strong, independent father face physical and cognitive challenges — and the strength it took to step into a caregiving role while honoring his dignity. In this episode, you'll hear: What it was like coordinating medical care and rehab internationally The complexities of flying a stroke survivor home after an overseas hospitalization The emotional impact of becoming a caregiver to a parent How caregiving redefined their relationship — and deepened their bond Tips for others suddenly thrust into long-distance or primary caregiving roles Whether you're a caregiver, stroke survivor or loved one, Tiffany's story is a moving reminder that stroke changes everything — but it also creates space for resilience, connection and reimagined futures. Key takeaways: Stroke recovery doesn't just impact the survivor — it reshapes family roles and dynamics. Long-distance caregiving and international rehab and travel come with logistical, legal and emotional challenges. Communication, compassion and flexibility are key to adapting during a medical crisis. Even amid grief for what was lost, it's possible to find new meaning and purpose in the caregiver role. Caregiving can be a very personal role on many levels - assisting a loved one through their cancer diagnosis, helping with daily activities, providing support and helping to make treatment decisions may all be a part of their responsibilities. When young adults are the caregiver taking care of a parent, they face many unique challenges, such as having more duties to juggle and managing their own growing relationships and careers. Harley Stuebgen was just 25 years old when her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She immediately stepped in as her caregiver and supported her throughout her entire breast cancer journey. For her mother, Kim, the support of her daughter and her greater community gave her the strength and support that she needed to keep going. Their experience highlights the powerful bond between mother and daughter and how allowing people to help can make all the difference.

Episode 478 features and interview with astrologer Jason Holley about Experiential Astrology, which is a dynamic approach that attempts to embody the symbols of astrology through creative and interactive methods, including making the chart come alive by acting it out in a group setting with Astrodrama. Experiential astrology has its origins in some of the experimentation with different psychological methods that were happening in the astrological community in the 1970s and 80s, and Jason highlights the work of astrologer Barbara Schermer in particular. Jason defines Experiential Astrology as engaging with astrological symbolism through multiple intelligences and perceptual faculties, including somatic, sensuous, imagistic, instinctual, kinesthetic, expressive, and relational. This approach emphasizes the full-consciousness experience of astrological symbolism, moving beyond conceptual understanding to a felt, lived experience. In the discussion we focused on one particular application of Experiential Astrology known as Astrodrama, which involves a group of people standing around and acting out a person's birth chart, and we discuss some of the different ways that this can be done.
