Na enkele jaren aan bureauzijde besloot ze de overstap naar het bedrijfsleven te maken, waar ze diverse marketing- en communicatiefuncties bekleedde. Haar laatste commerciële rol was die van marketingcommunicatiemanager bij de internationale hydrauliekgigant Holmatro in Raamsdonksveer. Sinds enkele jaren runt Maartje haar praktijk Bu Ming Acupunctuur in gezondheidscentrum Tolakker in Bavel. Haar specialisatie ligt op het gebied van oncologie (kanker), rookstopbegeleiding, (chronische) pijn en immuun-gerelateerde problemen zoals auto-immuunziekten, allergieën en afweerstoornissen. Daarnaast verzorgt ze trainingen binnen de complementaire zorg over TCM en kanker, marketing, communicatie en promotie. Specialisatie in oncologie Maartje heeft een persoonlijke band met kanker. Haar eerste ervaring dateert uit de jaren '90, toen de zus van haar moeder overleed aan borstkanker. Drie jaar later verloor ze een vriendin van 18 jaar aan longkanker. Het gevoel van oneerlijkheid bleef haar bij. In 2016 werd ze opnieuw persoonlijk geraakt toen haar vader op 66-jarige leeftijd plotseling overleed aan een agressieve hersentumor, slechts drie maanden na de diagnose. Dit moment markeerde een keerpunt in haar leven. Ze besloot zich om te scholen naar Chinese geneeskunde en specialiseerde zich in TCM bij kanker en oncologische acupunctuur. Ze volgde diverse internationale trainingen bij zowel westerse kankerinstituten als oosters georiënteerde instituten, en blijft regelmatig seminars bijwonen en literatuur en onderzoeken bestuderen. Het is haar levensmissie geworden om kennis over Chinese geneeswijzen bij kanker te vergaren en te delen, om patiënten en therapeuten te ondersteunen en de kwaliteit van leven te verbeteren, ongeacht het stadium van de ziekte. Ze wil iets bieden wat zij voor haar vader nooit kon doen, namelijk complementaire zorg naast reguliere behandelingen.

At the top there's a beautiful herbed chèvre (goat cheese) with rows of sliced baguette featuring duck liver mousse and three tapenades — tomato, black and green olive.To the right of the platter we have a very simply sliced cantaloupe drizzled with more EVOO and sel gris and some sardines, which are great protein and true fish oil sources (the stuff you might be swallowing in capsules is rancid; whole food wins again!). It is of course a rather large “apéro” and actually served as a complete dinner for five that evening.
