Dr. Richard Sztramko practices Geriatric and Internal Medicine at St. Peter's and Juravinski Hospitals in Hamilton, Ontario. He is an Assistant Professor at McMaster University. He is the co- founder of Arya EHR (Electronic Health Record) and Handover, a cutting-edge health tech company rapidly expanding throughout Canada in hospitals and outpatient clinics. He has served as the Chief Medical Officer of a publicly traded remote chronic disease management company called Reliq Health TSX: V (RHT), and currently consults for US-based Soteria Health. Jordan Vollrath is a recently graduated family physician. He did his medical school at the University of Alberta before completing his residency at the University of Calgary in 2019. He worked exclusively as a locum engaging in a wide variety of practices including both rural and urban before co-founding Cherry Health in 2020.  Cherry Health:  Founded in 2020 to fill the obvious gap with how physicians find locums - rather than the traditional web-based locum portals which have proved ineffective year after year, we decided to move to a mobile app based platform. This makes it more portable, flexible and with significantly better engagement. Anita Kaur joins us today to share the mental health challenges she has faced due to the current pandemic. Anita is a recent university graduate and has been working from home due to COVID-19 since March. During this time, she began experiencing worrying physical symptoms which her doctor believed were caused by anxiety. Ryan Grilli started his education at McMaster University studying Life Sciences with the intention of attending medical school. After writing the MCAT multiple times and two failed attempts in applying, he wanted to continue his education, so he decided to go to the University of Western Ontario to study Global Health. He graduated from Duke University where he studied evolutionary anthropology and was a member of the track & field team. A limb-threatening injury served as the driving force behind his decision to pursue a career in medicine. Kwasi Nkansah is a current University of Toronto medical student, but he is much more than even that! As an outgrowth of his longstanding passion for the extremes of human physiology, Kwasi's educational background is in bio-physiology, and his interests lie in space medicine. Kwasi completed his B.Sc. at McMaster where he performed research on the influence that high-altitude, extreme cold, and hypoxia has on mammalian physiology. Following this, Kwasi completed his Masters of Space Studies at the International Space University. And later worked at the European Astronaut Center where he focused on cardiovascular deconditioning in long duration spaceflight. Currently, Kwasi is pursuing Medical Studies at the University of Toronto in Canada and working on a project to identify ways of incorporating artificial intelligence into pre-flight medical examinations for commercial suborbital flights. Dr. Lotta Oikari obtained her BSc and MSc degrees from the University of Turku, Finland, after which she moved to Australia to undertake PhD studies. She completed her PhD at the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2017. Her PhD focused on the roles of proteoglycans during human neural stem cell neurogenesis, during which she gained an extensive understanding and knowledge of human neural stem cell biology, expansion, handling and differentiation with several publications in the field. Following completion of her PhD, Dr Oikari started as a post-doctoral researcher in A/Prof Anthony White's Cellular and Molecular Neurodegeneration group at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute. Dr Oikari's research in A/Prof White's group has continued in the field of human stem cell research, specifically focusing on pluripotent stem cell models of neurodegenerative diseases. In 2018 Dr Oikari was awarded the QIMR Berghofer Seed grant to develop a human pluripotent stem cell-derived blood-brain barrier (BBB) model of Alzheimer's disease, with part of this work published in Stem Cell Reports in 2020. While in Vancouver, she co-developed a ‘Zombie Apocalypse' workshop that is geared to introducing youth into the field of public health and outbreak investigation, which has been presented at events like the Gairdner Global Health Symposium. Chelsie is currently a Master of Disaster and Emergency Management candidate at York University where she focuses on public health disasters, and building resilient communities. Her current research looks at how the response of COVID-19 globally and nationally impacts marginalized populations. Chelsie was recently appointed to the Youth Council of Canada's Chief Science Advisor. Along with the other council members, Chelsie's role is to provide unique youth-focused perspectives, and inform on key science-related issues facing Canadians, included the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Chelsie has founded the COVID-19 F.A.C.T. Working Group with some young professionals. This Working Group aims to provide the public with informative and educational materials related to the current COVID-19 outbreak through the promotion of accurate and scientifically-sound information. The purpose of this working group is to amplify information validated by credible sources, while advocating against the spread of misinformation, and build science literacy capacity in the general public. Derek Wasser is a Toronto chef and is a Partners and Executive Chef of Toronto-based restaurant and catering company, Pantry. Pantry is a quick service concept that has branched out of the larger full service catering company the Food Dudes, which he previously worked for as a chef for 5 years. Pantry currently has 3 restaurant locations: one in Leslieville, a flagship location in Rosedale, and a location on the Commerce Court Path. They have plans to expand later this year with another Path location in the downtown core. COVID-19 forced The Food Dudes and Pantry to close all operations. Management decided to put their resources towards supporting the healthcare system through daily meals instead. They have large 10,000 square foot commissary kitchens that they felt could create safe socially distanced work spaces and developed a menu. Through their support system and loyal clients, they were able to start the program, and are currently serving over 500 meals a week to health care workers and delivering to their clients through their own delivery platforms.
