There's a wonderful discussion about wigs in film (prompted by Colin Farrell's bad wig in the first act of A Home at the End of the World), an appreciation of Dark Waters getting made and getting discovered to this day, and line producers “carrying the burden of the budget.” Vachon mourns The Safety of Objects being swallowed by the tragedy of 9/11 while Koffler suggests why the independent ensemble drama has gone by the wayside. First we talked with Christine Vachon whose production company Killer Films has produced many acclaimed independent films including Far from Heaven, Boys Don't Cry, One Hour Photo, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Go Fish, Swoon and Carol. She also produced the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce. Vachon received her first Academy Award nomination in 2023 for Past Lives and recently produced Materialists starring Dakota Johnson. Christine serves on the PIFF's Advisory Board. Next we talked to Sophie Hyde and Aud Mason Hyde about their film Jimpa starring Olivia Colman and John Lithgow that premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and was directed by Sophie. The film is about Hannah (Olivia Colman) and her non-binary teenager Frances (Aud Mason Hyde) who visits her gay grandfather (John Lithgow) in Amsterdam. We talked about the film and LGBTQ issues in Australia their native country.  Then we talked with Michael Koehler who directed the documentary SPIRITUS: No Business like Dough Business which explores the history and culture of Spiritus Pizza in Provincetown, MA. This film explores the rich history of one of the oldest family-run businesses in Ptown highlighting the challenges faced by the business, the LGBTQ community and the AIDS crisis against the backdrop of the conservative Puritanical attitudes in the town during the 1970s and 1980s. We concluded our audio montage with Claire Titelman who's working on developing her short Remember Me into a feature film. The film is autobiographic about after a series of personal setbacks 40-year-old Claire moves back home to care for her ailing father. Despite her challenging circumstances she musters the courage to re-enter the dating scene.    The Provincetown Film Society, Inc. In February of 1975, fans in the NHL had to do a double take when they looked at the standings. That's because alongside the Montreal Canadiens and the defending champion Flyers was a rag-tag group of castoffs who scored just often enough to give their goalie a lead, and he would do the rest. Rogie Vachon and the L.A. Kings were playing inspiring hockey and were on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week 50 years ago. After winning three Stanley Cups in Montreal, Vachon was now in his 4th season in Southern California and the 5'7 goaltender was bigger than ever as fans began to really notice they had something special as the last line of defense at the Forum in Inglewood. "Save, Vachon!" was a common phrase heard numerous times a game from Bob Miller, the voice of the Kings and a special bond between Rogie and the fans of L.A. was formed. He would go on to be the first player in Kings history to have his number retired in 1985 and 30 years later, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Despite never winning a Cup after his playing days in Montreal ended, Vachon made a lasting impression on Los Angeles as both a player and a General Manager. In 1988, under the ownership of Bruce McNall, Vachon was instrumental in making one of the biggest deals in sports history acquiring Wayne Gretzky from the Edmonton Oilers. The Great One was now in L.A. and the NHL was about to explode on the West Coast. Hear how this hockey lifer who played as a kid with the grown ups and slept in the car when they would go grab a beer afterwards came from a rural farm in Canada and ended up being a member of royalty in L.A. Scott is the author of Professional Photography: The New Global Landscape Explained (Routledge 2014), The Essential Student Guide to Professional Photography (Routledge 2015), New Ways of Seeing: The Democratic Language of Photography (Routledge 2019), and What Does Photography Mean To You? (Bluecoat Press 2020). The labor–climate movement in the U.S. laid the groundwork for the Green New Deal by building a base within labor for supporting climate protection as a vehicle for good jobs. But as we confront the climate crisis and seek environmental justice, a “jobs vs. environment” discourse often pits workers against climate activists. How can we make a “just transition” moving away from fossil fuels, while also compensating for the human cost when jobs are lost or displaced? In his book, Clean Air and Good Jobs: U.S. Labor and the Struggle for Climate Justice (Temple University Press, 2023), Todd Vachon examines the labor–climate movement and demonstrates what can be envisioned and accomplished when climate justice is on labor's agenda and unions work together with other social movements to formulate bold solutions to the climate crisis.
