[Urdu Subtitles are available] There is often an idealism associated with space. However, space agencies and space companies, from the beginning have been engaged in dual-use technology - the same technology that can be used for going into space, is also used for war here on Earth. This has been true for the ongoing war in Gaza as well. Our guest today, Sahba El-Shawa, argues that we need to separate these two out and preserve the idealism of space exploration for the benefit of humanity. Sahba El-Shawa is a Jordanian-Canadian interdisciplinary researcher and social entrepreneur originally from Palestine. She is the Founder of the Jordan Space Research Initiative, which aims to bridge sustainable development with space exploration and establish an analog research facility in Jordan.Sahba holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, an MSc in Space Studies from the International Space University, and is now pursuing her PhD in Sustainable Development and Climate Change at IUSS Pavia in Italy. Her PhD research centers around the neuropsychological basis of the Overview Effect, and how making it more accessible using Virtual Reality can help drive sustainable behaviour on Earth. You can find her article, A Palestinian Perspective on Space, Ethics, and Human Rights, here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/ethics-human-rights-space-palestinian-perspective-sahba-el-shawa-ekamf/For more information about Kainaat Studios:https://www.kainaatstudios.comHost: Salman Hameed has a PhD in astronomy and is Charles Taylor Chair of Integrated Science & Humanities at Hampshire College and a member of the Five College Astronomy Department (FCAD) in Massachusetts, USA. New Space companies are constantly looking for alternative revenue streams to fund their projects. While many rely on traditional sources of funding, an emerging trend in the sector is Space Sponsorships. On this edition of The Ex Terra Podcast, Tom Patton talks with Stirling Forbes, the founder and CEO of Forbes Space, a dedicated space sponsorship, partnership and growth services agency. "It's a 1+1=3," Forbes said. "A brand receives the unparalleled product differentiation publicity that comes with associating with a space company, and a space company will receive the crucial financial or technical or global public awareness support for their mission, or innovation or exploration, or really just general progress for humanity." Forbes has a Master of Science in Space Studies degree from the International Space University in Strasbourg, France, and a First Class honors BSc degree from University College London in the History and Philosophy of Science where his thesis was on the commercialization and militarization of space. Over the last five years, Stirling has established a wide network in the space, commercial and marketing sector, building numerous relationships with influential people in those industries, both in person and through LinkedIn. His network extends to over 140 individual space companies alongside over 1100 connections in a CEO, Founder or president Role.

Neil Koenig, former BBC Producer/Director and now ideaXme board advisor interviews Chris Stott, Founder, CEO and Chair of Lonestar Data Holdings Inc. Neil comments: Space entrepreneurs often have grand visions. As the billionaire Elon Musk explained, in a BBC Radio 4 documentary I produced some 15 years ago, his dream is to help mankind become a space-faring civilisation by lowering the cost of interplanetary travel. Today, Mr Musk is making progress, as his company SpaceX continues to build ever bigger rockets and win new customers. And according to fellow entrepreneur Chris Stott, there has indeed been a dramatic fall in the cost of space transport, largely because of the work that SpaceX and its rivals have been doing. As a result, many opportunities for new businesses have emerged. Chris Stott has long been fascinated by space, and he has worked in the industry throughout his career; his wife Nicole is a former NASA astronaut. He now has an audacious plan: to put data centres on the Moon. It sounds like a crazy idea, but Mr Stott is deadly serious. He says that, because the costs of space travel have come down so much, the project is now eminently feasible. In this interview with me for ideaXme, Chris Stott talks of his passion for space, why he thinks it is vital for human society to have data backups in places beyond Earth, and why he believes that the survival of human civilisation depends on mankind successfully venturing into space.   Official biography Experienced Chief Executive Officer with a demonstrated history of profitably working in the space, satellite, and telecommunications industries consistently delivering shareholder value. Hi #SmartCommunity friends! Welcome back to another episode of the Smart Community Podcast. In this episode I have a fascinating conversation with Dr. Michaela Musilova, an astrobiologist, speaker, analog astronaut and author. Michaela has been conducting space-related research at institutions around the world and was the Director of HI-SEAS and Commander of over 30 simulated missions to the Moon and Mars, in collaboration with NASA, ESA and many international organizations. She is currently a visiting Professor at the Slovak University of Technology, Global Faculty at the International Space University and Head of Research of the space technology company NEEDRONIX. She also writes articles for Space.com and co-authored her biography, A Woman from Mars. In this episode, Michaela tells us about her passion for space and for life on earth, how she got into this Space space, and some of the challenges she has overcome to pursue this dream. She tells us about why it's so important to share with the public how science is helping humanity and how diversity and also food have both been key to the success of the missions she's been involved with.  Michaela then tells us about the projects she's worked on, including the Astro Seven Summits, which is focused on performing research related to life in space and also on extreme environments on earth. Michaela and I talk about how to link space exploration science with climate change, as well as what she thinks will happen on the first missions of humans living on Mars.  We then discuss the emerging trend of commercial investment in space and especially in things like rockets, but why it's not just rockets that make successful missions. Michaela shares with us her concerns about the commercial space race potentially taking unnecessary risks for the sake of meeting goals and boosting egos.  We finish our chat talking about whether there really is life on other planets, and Michaela tells us what she thinks about the likelihood of finding it. As always we hope you enjoyed listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed making it. Donald G. James is the author of "Manners will take you where brains and money won't: Wisdom from Momma and 35 years at NASA." (Feb. 2021). Inspired by the overwhelming reaction to the 1986 space shuttle Challenger tragedy, Donald James decided to make his career at NASA, retiring in 2017.Donald developed an early interest in aviation and international affairs due to his frequent travels with his parents to Africa, Southeast Asia, and Europe. In grade school, he learned about the planned supersonic transport (SST) and the new jumbo jet, the 747. The idea that you could fly faster than the speed of sound or in an aeroplane as gigantic as the 747 captivated him. Both Donald and his brother Dennis wanted to pursue aviation careers. Dennis is now a Captain with American Airlines. The experience of living in developing countries and a desire to solve problems of poverty inspired Donald to pursue International Relations and Economic Development academically, though he never lost his interest in aerospace. While considering employment options after graduate school, Donald applied to and was accepted into the Presidential Management Intern program. He was recruited and hired by NASA, beginning at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in 1982. He returned to California, transferring to NASA's Ames Research Center in 1984.Donald decided to make a career at NASA after the tragic Challenger accident in 1986. The loss of teacher Christa McAuliffe and her six fellow crew members, and the tremendous outpouring for the nation's first educator astronaut persuaded Donald that NASA was one agency that could inspire students to be explorers. Donald loves being around brilliant people doing cool science, building better and faster planes, and designing spacecraft to explore low earth orbit and the cosmos. For Donald, working at the Agency that led America and the world to human exploration of the moon is an honour and a privilege.Career highlights include: serving as Ames' Education Director from 1999 to 2006; co-leading Ames' first open house attracting a record-breaking quarter of a million visitors in one day (1997); serving as project manager for NASA's successful bid to host the International Space University's 2009 Space Studies Program; being accepted to the Senior Executive Service. Of all the amazing experiences Donald had, he counts one as the most gratifying: a young graduate student told Donald after a talk he gave that she was inspired to go into engineering when Donald visited her 7th-grade class a decade earlier. In August of 2014, NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden selected Donald as the Agency's Associate Administrator for Education. Donald retired after 35 years—all with NASA—on March 31, 2017.Donald holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He received a graduate Fellowship from the National Science Foundation and completed an MA in International Economic Development from the American University in Washington, D.C. Donald also studied economics at Cambridge University, England in 1975 and attended Harvard's Senior Executive Fellows program in 2004.Donald enjoys speaking to groups, especially young people interested in aerospace careers and about the themes in his new book. Donald's book (in collaboration with his brother Dennis) Manners Will Take You Where Brains and Money Won't: Wisdom from Momma and 35 years at NASA is available.Donald lives with his wife Tanya in Pleasanton, California. On this edition of the Ex Terra Podcast, Tom Patton talks with Christopher Stott, a founder of the Institute of Space Commerce and founder, chairman and former CEO of ManSat. There is not one U.N. Sustainable Development Goal that cannot be met without space. Indeed, many if not all of the issues we face in the world today can be addressed through space. So why aren't they? That's also a topic of discussion at the Institute of Space Commerce The ISC seeks to tackle major issues: from climate change to the e-economy; deep space exploration; space habitats and settlement of the Moon; space resources; space based solar power; space tourism; launch systems and satellite operations; the growing Low Earth Orbit Economy; the use of space in agriculture; medical research, and more. To date, the Institute of Space Commerce has over open source 150 papers on many topics of space commerce and we need more. No topic is off limits in a debate on the future well-being of the entire human race. Space commerce impacts every industry and every issue in the world today. The Institute of Space Commerce strives to make business in space more manageable for youth. They are and will always be a forum for communication, businesses, and education, and they welcome enthusiasts, doers and thinkers from all sides of the global economy to take part in our forums and web platforms. And as a North American affiliate of the International Space University, the ISC's work is based upon its foundational ‘3 Is' of International, Intercultural, and Interdisciplinary. With a focus on publishing and translating the message between space and youth, the ISC is well aware that space commerce is not for the faint of heart. Nonetheless, they firmly believe that only youth has the strength, creativity and skills to concurrently leverage the spin-ins and spin-offs amongst almost all industries in the world which are now space correlated. Do you have a story to contribute? Contact the Institute of Space Commerce and pitch your ideas.

A discussion of selections from the Baha'i writings about life on this planet and advances that have taken place in our knowledge of the universe and the emerging consciousness of world citizenship.   I will use examples from my professional experience in the field of Space and Satellites to highlight the progress of humanity in the realisation that as a planetary community we have no choice but to address global challenges ahead, if we are to pursue the glorious prospects of an ever-advancing civilization. Impediments to progress are the forces of nationalism, self-interest and all forms of prejudice which question the oneness of mankind and the respect for our common homeland, the planet earth. The writings of the Baha'i Faith inform and inspire us in our pursuit. My background is in engineering, economics and finance having acted as CFO of a satellite communications company and now with continuing interest in space and satellite initiatives. I serve on the Board of Trustees of the International Space University and act as a Trustee of the John Templeton Foundation. To view the video visit the YouTube channel https://youtu.be/MQvDQKpBMCo
