In this bonus episode of So, You Like Horror?, Jake is joined by Maryland Phil for a wide-ranging conversation about what is happening across the horror genre in 2026. They discuss the year's strongest films, biggest disappointments, overhyped releases, and whether 2026 is shaping up to be another memorable year for horror fans. The conversation also turns to Evil Dead Burn and the continued evolution of one of horror's most durable franchises. Does Evil Dead work better as horror-comedy or relentless brutality? Can the series succeed without Ash Williams? And are standalone stories the best direction for its future? Jake and Phil also look ahead to So, You Like Horror? in 2027 and consider possible season themes, including Final Girls and Horror Comic Books.

In this episode of Lunatics Radio Hour, we explore the history of the Final Girl, one of horror's most recognizable character archetypes. From early examples in horror literature and film to the rise of the slasher genre in the 1970s and 1980s, we examine how the trope developed and why it became so important to horror storytelling. We discuss the academic origins of the term, the characteristics traditionally associated with the Final Girl, and how characters like Laurie Strode, Nancy Thompson, and Sidney Prescott helped define and evolve the role. We also look at how modern horror films have challenged, expanded, and reinterpreted the trope for new audiences.Join us as we trace the history of the Final Girl and her lasting impact on horror cinema.Follow @Sonrisalibrary on Instagram.SourcesMen, Women, and Chain Saws by Carol J Clover (1992)Fandom article: Halloween Flips The Final Girl Trope on Its Head by Kim Taylor-FosterIn Session Film article by Codie Allen: The Scream Queen's Legacy: Janet Leigh and the Evolution of HorrorDread Central article by Mary Beth McAndrews: Jess's Choice: How ‘Black Christmas' (1974) Responsibly Addresses Abortion and Bodily Autonomy Get Lunatics Merch here. This week, we're rewinding the clock and bringing back an interview from five years ago! Disasterpeace also shares how he documents his creative work on his website, along with the personal projects and concept albums he loves to make. We explore Argentina this week with Dan! First, a police officer investigating strange lights on a lonely dirt road who suddenly vanishes without a trace. Eighteen hours later he was found miles away, injured, confused, and claiming that something with glowing red eyes had taken control of his mind. Then, for years before his death, legendary Argentinian musician Luca Prodan nsisted his old San Telmo home was haunted by the sounds of dragging chains, distant screams, and unseen presences lurking in the darkness. Everyone assumed the troubled rock star was imagining things—until years after his death, something was discovered that changed the way many viewed his claims. Next up, did a joke actually summon a helpful ghost, accidentally? Then, we revisit a legend heard here before that popped up under a similar but different name. Are these hatchet killer ghosts connected? Finally, someone or something is in the crawl space. Enough said. LAST EVER Wet Hot Bad Magic Summer Camp 2026: Have you heard?! Episode 158: Return of the Living Dead 3 — We're kicking off our "Too Hot to Rot" triple feature with Brian Yuzna's gory, surprisingly romantic zombie classic. Joined by special guest Steven from The Nightmare Trials podcast, we dig into the practical effects work of Steve Johnson, the franchise's tonal shift from satire to tragic love story, and why these unkillable, conscious zombies are some of the most genuinely unsettling in the genre. Send us Fan MailThis week on Building Halloween Gory Nights, Jimmy and the crew revisit one of the most influential monster movies ever made: Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man.Released in 1943, the film brought together two of Universal's greatest horror icons and helped establish the concept of monster crossovers decades before shared cinematic universes became commonplace. The crew discusses the film's atmosphere, legacy, creature designs, and memorable moments while exploring how the movie could be adapted into a haunted house, scare zone, or immersive horror attraction. From gothic horror environments to legendary monster encounters, the episode celebrates a film that remains a cornerstone of horror history and Universal Monsters mythology.Ghost ExecutionersMerchandise!https://www.teepublic.com/user/thehorrificnetwork?utm_source=designer&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=horrificnetworkFollow All Things Horrific Network Herehttps://linktr.ee/thehorrificnetworkGet Your Sinister Creature Con Tickets Herehttps://www.sinistercreaturecon.com/thecon
