Send us a textYou know, reality is a bitch when you're experiencing your own personal Event Horizon while wearing yogurt pants and a goiter meat mask. What the hell are we talking about? That's a very good question and one that can only be answered by listening to our continuation of Sci-Fi Spooktober. Send us a textA familiar song whispers across space, a colony ship veers off plan, and an android decides he wasn't built to serve—he was built to create. Our conversation dives straight into Alien: Covenant's sharpest hooks: why the crew gambles 2,000 sleeping lives on a “better” world, how the black pathogen evolves from mystery to method, and why David's transformation is the franchise's most unsettling idea since the chestburster. We keep it human, too—ownership of a choice that can't be undone and the quiet ways nostalgia becomes a trap.We compare David and Walter as a living argument about purpose: obedience versus authorship, stability versus ambition, care versus control. From that first sterile room to the flute duet and the mirrored stare-downs, the film reframes Prometheus with dread and clarity. You'll hear how the neomorphs raise the stakes on body horror, why the lander med-bay sequence works so well, and what Covenant's rules imply about spores, plants, and engineered evolution. We also pull in deep-lore threads from the novelizations—Engineers, ancient eggs, and antediluvian hints that Earth itself weathered a cataclysm before the stars called us outward—plus the corporate gravity of Weyland-Yutani shaping colonization. If you're ranking the Alien films, this one may shift your list. It feels like a bridge and a blade: Alien's atmosphere, Aliens' urgency, Prometheus's scope, converging on the question that lingers long after the credits—what happens when a creator decides the most humane act is to perfect the organism, no matter the cost? Join us, weigh in on David vs. Walter, and tell us where Covenant lands on your list. If you enjoy these deep dives, tap follow, share the show with a fellow sci-fi fan, and drop a review so more listeners can find us.Twitter handles:Project Geekology: https://twitter.com/pgeekologyAnthony's Twitter: https://twitter.com/odysseyswowDakota's Twitter: https://twitter.com/geekritique_dakInstagram:https://instagram.com/projectgeekology?igshid=1v0sits7ipq9yYouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@projectgeekologyGeekritique (Dakota):https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBwciIqOoHwIx_uXtYTSEbAAlien (1979) Explained | Timeline, Canon, and Lore: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9nmyTTlMvoSupport the show

Quentin Tarantino has been releasing movies since we were teenagers, so he holds a special place for us. This is especially true of the Kill Bill movies since we were a little older, plus they became a part of mainstream culture. Watching The Whole Bloody Affair is a tall order, however. The news about Scary Movie 6 has us much more excited. After watching the trailer for Ash, it is hard not to wonder if they used all the good shots for it. After seeing the actual movie, you realized that they could have picked any part of the film and it would have looked great. It also features some top notch performances and an engaging mystery. So why do so many people hate it? It probably has to do with the climax, which ruins all the good will Ash had built up. The over the top nature is subjective and some people will enjoy it. But its decision to completely rip off Alien is hard to ignore.Good Boy does not hide the fact that it is a gimmick. It is a haunted house story in which its main character is a dog. But not only is Indy the main character, he is pretty much the only one. The story and camera are completely different focused on him.Does it move past this and become something that audiences can become attached to? Well, if you have ever had a pet, you will love Good Boy. And if you have not had one, it will make you want to get one. Oh yeah. It is also scary, has great storytelling, and features one of the most emotionally impactful movies we have seen all year. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Alien: Earth crash-lands on FX and Hulu — the first Alien TV series from Noah Hawley, set two years before Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror classic.Starring Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adarsh Gourav, and Timothy Olyphant, this series brings the xenomorph terror home. But is Alien: Earth a bold new evolution for the franchise — or the worst idea since dressing a dog as a xenomorph? Fire in the Sky (1993) explained — the chilling alien-abduction film based on Travis Walton's true story. On Cutting Deep into Horror, hosts Henrique Couto and Rachael Redolfi break down why the UFO sequence still shocks, how director Robert Lieberman builds dread, and where movie dramatization diverges from the real Arizona logging-crew case. We compare the film to Walton's account, spotlight the cast (D.B. Sweeney, Robert Patrick, James Garner), and dig into small-town paranoia, survivor trauma, hypnosis testimony, and the 90s UFO boom.Inside this episodeFire in the Sky true story vs. film — what's verified and what's contested.Abduction set-piece breakdown: production design, practical effects, and sound that still terrify.Performance notes: Sweeney's vulnerability, Patrick's stoicism, Garner as relentless investigator.Themes & context: guilt, media pressure, and why the case haunts pop culture.Legacy: how a cult classic shaped alien-abduction horror for the 90s and beyond. Is Fire in the Sky a true story?Yes. It's based on Travis Walton's 1975 abduction claim; the film dramatizes events for storytelling.Where to watch (U.S.) right now• Free (with ads): Pluto TV (availability rotates). • Rent/Buy: Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home (Vudu), and Paramount Movies. If you're into alien-abduction horror, true-story thrillers, and 90s cult classics, queue this episode—sharp analysis, cultural context, and craft talk with a few laughs and plenty of goosebumps.
Here in Episode 159 of Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, four of your intrepid Horror Avengers — Jay of the Dead, Dr. Walking Dead, GregaMortis, and Mackula — are joined by special guest, Kombat Karl “The Mad Irishman” from Movie Podcast Weekly, to help them review ALIEN: EARTH (2025), Episode 005: In Space, No One…! Warning: This episode contains full-blown, major plot spoilers as our space jockeys discuss the latest developments of this entertaining Sci-Fi Horror series. With this new menagerie of Beastly Freak organisms, Jay classifies the eyeball-squid thing as an “Ocular Octopod,” and he calls the ill-fated, science vessel USCSS Maginot, “Con Air but With Aliens.” Also in this episode, you will probably not be surprised to hear Mackula say, “I think it's just that darn sheep!” Kombat Karl translates, in the way that only he can, what the xenomorph sentiments are saying, and Mackula very excitedly draws parallels between the alien xenomorphs and The Shape, Michael Myers. In addition, Mackula and Karl chat about whether Alien Earth makes any references that nod to “Blade Runner,” as Jay asks Karl if Boy Kavalier is a “replicant.” Note: This episode was recorded on September 4, 2025. Send us a textGrab your pulse rifles and motion trackers – we're dropping into LV-426! In this adrenaline-fueled episode, we dissect James Cameron's action-packed sequel "Aliens" (1986) and discover why it stands as one of the most successful genre shifts in cinema history. The conversation explores how Cameron transformed Ridley Scott's slow-burning horror masterpiece into an explosive action thriller without sacrificing the dread and tension that made the original so effective. We dive deep into Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley – her 57-year cryosleep, the trauma she carries, and her evolution from reluctant survivor to determined warrior. That power loader showdown with the Queen? Pure cinematic gold that perfectly culminates Ripley's character arc.We couldn't stop gushing about the practical effects that still hold up brilliantly today – from the hive's unsettling biomechanical design to the imposing Alien Queen puppet operated by multiple performers. The Colonial Marines receive special attention, particularly Bill Paxton's panic-stricken Hudson ("Game over, man!") and Jenette Goldstein's tough-as-nails Vasquez. Paul Reiser's duplicitous Burke also gets his due as the human villain whose corporate greed rivals the xenomorphs in monstrosity. Our hosts debate which film reigns supreme – the atmospheric horror of "Alien" or the action-packed thrills of "Aliens" – and examine how the sequel expands the xenomorph mythology with the Queen and hive structure. From face-huggers to chest-bursters to acid blood, we analyze why these creatures remain among cinema's most terrifying creations decades later.Ready to face your fears and join the conversation? It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a 3 parter anyways. The 90s was a stinker of a decade for horror. That's what history tells us, well lets investigate our selves because the old saying goes that history is written by the victors and horror always wins. So what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 1994? Well, here we have the top 5. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Plus some bangin' mates, a few J&B whiskey's and a 4+ hour running time. This is 1994, A Year In Horror. 0.00 - The X-Files Season 2 (w/ Paul Terry)

This week on Another Pass, Case and Sam are joined by guest Sean Muir to dissect the late '90s sci-fi horror flick Virus—a movie where bad wiring meets worse decisions. Together, they explore the film's potential, its squandered setup, and how it almost became the Event Horizon of killer robot movies. #AnotherPass #Virus1999 #JamieLeeCurtis #DonaldSutherland #SeanMuir #SciFiHorror #FlawedButFascinating Another Pass Full Episode Originally aired: August 22, 2025 Music by Vin Macri and Matt Brogan Podcast Edited by Sophia Ricciardi Certain Point Of View is a podcast network brining you all sorts of nerdy goodness! The film was released in January 1999, originally scheduled for late 1998, but was a commercial failure, earning only half of its budget back with critical reviews reflecting its shortcomings. Discussion revealed that the movie heavily referenced better films like The Thing and Alien, being described as merely an 'outline of a movie', lacking the depth expected from the genre. The technical achievements of Phil Tippett's animatronics were praised, although criticized for being too bright for the intended horror atmosphere, while CGI elements did not hold up well. Cultural shifts post-9/11 were noted as a change in audience appetite for sci-fi horror, marking an end to the late 90s creature feature trend seen in films like Independence Day. Character development was weak, with the consensus that Billy Baldwin's role could be eliminated without impacting the story; Sherman Augustus's character identified as the most promising but underutilized. Proposed a campier direction for the film, featuring humans viewed as 'uncouth' by aliens, which could yield more engaging content and interactions among the crew. Suggested removing the opening space scene to enhance suspense, providing a fresher take on alien threat revelation and deepening story engagement. Critique noted inconsistencies in character portrayals Notes ️ Episode Introduction & Setup (00:00 - 10:25) Case Aiken and Sam Alicea welcome guest Sean Muir (Movie Midness) to discuss the 1999 sci-fi horror film 'Virus'. Both Case and Sam were unfamiliar with the film despite it featuring notable actors and being from 1999, highlighting how obscure it became. John Bruno left his VFX supervisor position on Titanic to direct this film, but his career trajectory after this movie remains unclear. The movie appears made for cyberpunk enthusiasts, sci-fi nerds, and specifically mentioned Billy Idol during his cyberpunk phase after missing the T-1000 role in Terminator 2. Movie Plot Summary & Analysis (07:40 - 20:48) Film opens with Russian space station receiving alien energy that transfers to communication ship; American tugboat crew discovers abandoned vessel during hurricane and faces killer machines. Features Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Sutherland, Billy Baldwin, and Cliff Curtis; Sam expresses confusion about Billy Baldwin's casting choices. Film draws heavily from better movies including The Thing, Alien, Event Horizon, and Ghost Ship; described as feeling like an 'outline of a movie'. Movie was a commercial bomb, earning only half its budget back and receiving harsh critical reviews. ️ Technical & Production Discussion (20:49 - 40:48) Phil Tippett's animatronics work praised as excellent, though perhaps too well-lit for horror atmosphere; practical effects hold up better than CGI elements. Late 90s represented end of creature feature era; audiences moving toward CGI spectacle seen in films like Independence Day and Jurassic Park sequels. Discussion of how cultural tastes changed dramatically after 9/11, affecting appetite for this type of sci-fi horror content. Movie reused ship from The Abyss and other James Cameron productions; originally scheduled for 1998 release but moved to January 1999 'dump month'. Character & Story Analysis (40:48 - 01:02:22) Crew relationships underdeveloped compared to superior ensemble films like Aliens; characters lack memorable personality moments. Consensus that Billy Baldwin's character adds nothing to the film and could be completely removed without impact. Sherman Augustus's character Richie identified as film's best, showing intelligence and survival instincts that should have made him the protagonist. Central concept of humans being the 'virus' poorly executed compared to The Matrix (same year) or later films like Arrival. Pitch Session - Campy Direction (01:02:23 - 01:12:53) Proposes making film campier with Galactic Union of Planets deciding humans are 'uncouth' and sending computer virus to eliminate them efficiently. Suggests more scenes of Richie building weapons from robot parts and crew creating makeshift tools for survival. Proposes aliens are annoyed by human space transmissions like 'intergalactic Mormons' constantly trying to make contact. More creative use of ship's manufacturing equipment turned into weapons. Technical Improvement Suggestions (01:12:53 - 01:22:35) Sean criticizes inconsistent Scottish accent performance, suggests either full commitment or using natural voice. Marshall Bell (Woods) needs better pain expression training for nail gun injury scenes. Second wall of hurricane not properly represented with appropriate ship movement and chaos during climax. Movie lacks clear layout understanding, unlike Die Hard's excellent building geography that aids tension. Horror Direction Alternative (01:16:55 - 01:22:35) Remove opening space station scene, make it flashback told by Nadia; focus on mystery and unknown threat. Give Jamie Lee Curtis's Kit Foster more personal stakes and character arc beyond basic competence. Build more suspense through delayed revelation of alien threat; explore 'humans as virus' theme more thoroughly. Better utilize ship's impressive technical areas and create clearer navigation understanding. Wrap-up & Social Media (01:22:35 - 01:27:59) Sean Muir promotes Movie Midness Instagram, Letterboxd, and YouTube profiles featuring movie analysis and model train scene recreations. Thanks to executive producer level supporters including Micah McCaw, Carter Hallett, Sean Muir, and others. Highlander 2: The Quickening announced as next film for discussion. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. From the director (Tobe Hooper) of The Texas Chainsaw Massacare and the writer (Dan O'Bannon) of Alien comes this crazy sci-fi horror thriller about a potential alien invasion which occurs around London after a race of space vampires (yes you read that right) come calling via Haley's Comet and an Earth-bound spaceship. This ambitious Cannon Pictures release was a notable flop when it was first released in June of 1985 but has since garned a cult following due to several crazy setpieces, ample female nudity (from one alien in particular played by Matilda May), and.....some very inventive visual effects thanks to contributions from the same F/X wizard (John Dykstra) who had worked on the original Star Wars just eight years prior. Starring alongside May (in her on-screen debut) are Steve Railsback, Peter Firth, Frank Finlay, and Patrick Stewart!
