On this episode of More Than Meatheads, Luis talks to Alejandro Terrazas, creator of Unleashfit brand and general enthusiast of all things fitness, sports and comic books. In this episode, Luis talks to Personal Trainer, Instructor, Coach, Bouncer, Cornerman, Actor, Model, Stuntman, Tattoo aficionado and giant teddy bear Jesse Ryan. Jesse and Luis of course discuss Jesse's origins, from growing up in Tucson Arizona, his love for MMA and fighting and his inspiration to become an actor. (Spoiler alert: it was from his grandmother but listen to the entire episode anyway)
On this episode of >MEATHEADS, Luis has a conversation with Cormac Murphy. Who is Cormac Murphy you may ask? Cormac is a someone who grew up in Ireland with many siblings and had a very active lifestyle. This foundation and background is what would eventually lead Cormac to developing his own fitness platform. MACCFIT. In between all that Cormac has lived in Australia, become a signed male model, been on Love Island (the show), become a drug addict, a club promoter, been to rehab and tons of other stuff. For more details listen in.
Cheyne and Luis discuss feeling burned out and how Luis feels like he's in a sort of workout rut. Other things are discussed but Cheyne and Luis still aren't sure who is reading these descriptions. If you are reading these descriptions, send this episode to a friend and ask them to send the >Meatheads Instagram account a DM. Enjoy the episode.
This time instead of describing the episode, Cheyne and Luis want to test if anyone reads the description. If you're reading this, send a DM to and just simply say hello or tell us anything that's on your mind. Hope you enjoy the episode.
Cheyne and Luis have a great conversation with Margaret Valenzuela () A fellow Presher coworker, friend and general source of positive energy, Margaret shares with Cheyne and Luis, her origin story. This story has tons of ups and downs that includes vulnerability, mindset and how Margaret overcame her addiction. Margaret also talks about how religion helped give her guidance, structure and purpose during her most challenging moments. Margaret is a strong believer that none of us make it alone and we are all better by being together. This episode gets a bit heavy, but laughs and good times are still and always had. Do everyone you know a favor and share this episode with them.
Cheyne and Luis open this episode by talking about how Elon Musk bought Twitter and the world is still spinning the same. More importantly Cheyne and Luis discuss Luis' experience at working out at Strong New York with his two workout buddies Alejandro and Joseph. The gym is owned by Kenny Santucci and his goal is to bring fitness to the masses that may be intimidated by the average big box gym or full of social media influencers that reinforce Personal Trainer stereotypes or client stereotypes. Cheyne and Luis talk further about what these stereotypes may be and where they come from and how to work not only with them but against them. Listen and share with everyone you know, they'll thank you.
Cheyne and Luis talk about Luis' on set experience on a huge set for a video and photo shoot for a major athletic name brand. What was asked of Luis on set and how not glamourous life on the set can be. Now that Luis was on a major photo shoot, it got him thinking about international travel again. Cheyne and Luis also discuss Kyrie Irving and his interactions with the city of Boston and levels of aggression. Where is the line between competitive nature and taking it too far drawn? Putting yourself in a competitive state is not a bad thing, learn how to use it towards fitness and other components of your life.
Cheyne and Luis cover a variety of topics in this episode. From an update to how Luis' toe is doing to the little win that came from it. You'll have to listen to know what it is. Cheyne and Luis also discuss the most mistakes that people commit in the gym ranging from trying to hit too many accomplishments at the gym too consecutively to programming hopping too often, to not realizing what you are training for. Lots of fun useful information in this episode. Make sure to pass it on to all your friends and family!!
Cheyne and Luis discuss Luis' recent trip to the South, Nashville. After returning from Nashville, Luis suffers a small injury which leads to a bigger issue. He drops a weight on his toe which leads an ingrown toe nail, which leads to an infection. This experience is very humbling because something as small as an infected big toe nail can really slow you down both mentally and physically. When encountered with this situation you have to ask yourself the benefits or hazards of working out at the same level. Another factor, while recovering, do you change your nutrition? Also discussed in current events is the new female world record for deadlifting. Super impressive numbers by a super impressive athlete.
Happy birthday to Luis! Cheyne and Luis talk about the birthday weekend that Luis had and how awkward he felt during festivities. The reason why Luis felt awkward is because he's used to people showing up for him doing something, he's not used to people showing up for him just being. Luis has now lost the role that he's used to playing. Cheyne and Luis see this happen at the gym when people show up for a class expecting to blend in and not really be seen, but then no one else shows up but them, their expected role of blending in is now gone. What to do and how to deal with these life occurrences is talked about in this episode. Subscribe on whatever platform you listen to this podcast to make sure you don't miss out on any episodes and catch up on any past episodes.
Cheyne and Luis cover a lot of information in this episode. Topics discussed are: the fitness party happening at Presher Fitness organized by Joseph aka Fit2Conquer, the classes that Cheyne and Luis are programming for the men's Rugby team, what a strength class is, the ongoing debate of transgender women competing with other women in sports, how Cheyne got distracted while working out and it cost him some skin and how sports psychology and how it applies to measured performance. Lots of stuff! Enjoy.
Cheyne and Luis talk about how Luis had someone in his FIGHT class that didn't make it through the whole class and how one can look for certain stress level markers. These markers and others that Cheyne and Luis discuss can help you discern whether or not your at the most optimal for a certain type of workout. Cheyne also talks about his weekend trip to the California and his exposure to underground "wrasssling". During Cheyne's trip to California, he realized the difference in types of commutes between Cali and NYC. Not just the terrain but also the opportunity cost. And by opportunity cost he means how much is lost while in commute, not just in energy or money but just mental exertion.
First of all apologies. Luis' microphone was not up to snuff and his audio sounds a bit low but it's still very audible. In this episode, Cheyne and Luis discuss the Winter Olympics. Yeah, that's happening now. Regardless of the fact that viewership is not that of the Summer Olympics the athletes participating in the Winter Olympics are still athletes. Yes, even the ones that participate in curling. These athletes have learned to tap into their genetic potential and use it towards their respective sport. Cheyne and Luis also talk about their friend and coworker Jafar who has the ability to just walk up to whatever heavy weight you are attempting to lift and just effortlessly lift it for a single rep. Fun times.
Cheyne and Luis discuss relative strength and the pitfalls of questioning your own strength. It's way too easy whilst on your fitness journey to question yourself on whether or not you actually are "strong" and what being strong even means. Luis even admits to still comparing his ability to lift a certain amount of weight to others. Cheyne and Luis provide tips as to how you can combat this mentality.
Cheyne and Luis talk about Luis' Netflix shooting experience and how he was asked to consult on a scene that involved two guys courting each other on the gym floor. Much like Netflix using an algorithm to suggest what you would like to watch next, social media does the same thing to guide the narrative that they would like for you to see. Cheyne and Luis also discuss an article in the January issue of SELF magazine where encouragement can be perceived as fat shaming. Cheyne and Luis get a wee bit worked up discussing this article and it's ramifications.
Cheyne and Luis open with a story about how Netflix will be shooting some content at Presher Fitness and only Luis was asked to attend. Cheyne and Luis then discuss intuitive nutrition and how most people are not aware of what signals their bodies are sending them about what they need. Cheyne and Luis also respond to feedback from a listener that provides a wealth of information regarding rowing and all it's different designations. In "Current Events", Cheyne and Luis talk about the importance of working out for women passed the age of 40.
Cheyne and Luis tackle the issue of physical education in this country. Sometimes an Ivy League education can lead to remedial movement. This isn't the case all the time, some schools have exceptional athletic programs. Locations also play a part, suburban vs urban settings can be a determining factor. You didn't have a stellar gym program in school buy your backyard are the back woods of West Virginia. As opposed to an underserved youth who's gym class is a converted classroom. Cheyne and Luis also discuss how 20 minutes of activity can improve cognitive focus for both anxious and non-anxious people.
Cheyne and Luis get on trend for January and talk about resolutions for 2022. Mastering the mundane is clutch to not only achieving your goals but also maintaining them. Speaking of trends, given the current world situation, Cheyne and Luis try to predict what the coming fitness trends for the year may bring. Also discussed, is the lawsuit which Nike has against LuLu Lemon and the Mirror workout appliance. Cheyne has also written a blog about how to make a resolution and how to make a plan to reach this resolution. The blog is available on the More Than Meatheads website.
Cheyne and Luis are starting their comeback tour! A few things have happened since the last time the boys podcasted. Luis ran a Spartan Trifecta in a weekend and goes into detail of how he trained for it and the toll it took on his body. Cheyne and Luis also discuss setting expectations for next year and how to budget your goals. This episode is full of laughs, stories and all sorts of good stuff.
Congratulations! You all survived the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp malfunction shutdown. What these few hours of lack of access showed us, is that the social media community is not a real community. Cheyne and Luis discuss how toxic relationships can exist with more than just another person. Toxic relationships can also occur with work and business. Cheyne and Luis talk a little business and how they are going about building their classes and a following. Building a community, ensuring a positive experience and just being present for the people that are paying a fee for your service are important components for a healthy work life.
Cheyne and Luis took a break but are back now (again). While on break, they've done some traveling. Luis went to Scottsdale, Arizona with 17 other males for a long weekend. Cheyne went to Texas to further his knowledge with Power Athlete and network with other Coaches. While away from podcasting, Cheyne and Luis have been teaching more classes at Presher Fitness and have started to develop a sort of a following for their classes. This following has also left many reviews on their respective classes. The concept of positive anonymous reviews is a new development for both Cheyne and Luis. Also discussed are ways to reintegrate the gym back into your schedule. Many people now have the option to go back into the office and commuting is time consuming. Apparently these tips are listed in a tone of Andy Sandberg's and Justin Timberlake's "Dick In a Box" song. Great times.
Cheyne and Luis are making moves! They now have moved their podcast to the Presher breakroom. Does it sound any better? You tell us. Speaking of making moves and moving forward, Boston Dynamic has now developed a robot which can run obstacles and do backflips. Clients are now coming in thinking that if a robot can make it look so easy, they should be able to do it as well, and also back in college they remembered being able to. Nostalgia can be very misleading when the memory you are starting with is a lie. Ego is the enemy and failure will be your destination. Successful clients and people follow the same patterns. Those are the clues that they leave behind if you are willing to see them. Subscribe to the More Than Meatheads YouTube channel Follow on Instagram More_Than_Meatheads
Cheyne and Luis have done it. They made it to 100 episodes!! Well actually 100 episodes were done about 5 episodes ago if you take into account the episodes that either Luis accidentally deleted or Cheyne and Luis just didn't like. Regardless, staying true to the course and chipping away an episode at a time Cheyne and Luis have now made it to 100 episodes. In this episode Cheyne and Luis have an Olympic update on one of the most endearing post win interviews by Tamyra Mensah-Stock. Tamyra's interview had all the good feels, from the sense of accomplishment to patriotism and all the sincerity possible. Most of what was said was about putting in the hard work no matter what. Cheyne and Luis then discuss the athlete's mindset and the difference between those that thank God and those that don't. Is there a difference in work ethic and outcome? In Current Events, it turns out that kids that workout tend to have an expanded vocabulary. It's science. Don't forget to like and subscribe to the More Than Meatheads YouTube channel to see Luis get super muddy and dirty at the Rugged Maniac race in Pennsylvania.
Cheyne and Luis discuss Luis' first trip to San Diego and the culture difference between East coast and West. Also covered is Luis' first experience on a nude beach while in San Diego. In other news, the Olympics are in full swing and Cheyne and Luis talk about Simone Biles and her self removal from the Olympic competition. What type of culture does that establish when dealing with mental health and a global stage? What type of new standard can this potentially start as far as the competitive culture is concerned? On a team training level, Cheyne will be an assistant Coach at high schools in order to establish that culture of accountability and proper fundamentals. In our on going segment of "Meme Busters", Cheyne and Luis tackle the meme phrase of "It's not about winning, it's how you play the game" Nope! You play to win. That's it.
Cheyne and Luis discuss the upcoming Tokyo Olympics and their interesting approach to rules and enforcement of them. How will the lack of spectators affect performance? Can weed be considered a "performance enhancing drug"? Here's the answer. NO! But if you're going to play someone's game you have to play by their rules until they change them. Their sandbox, their rules. On the topic of making the rules work for you. Cheyne and Luis discuss Laurel Hubbard, a New Zealand weightlifter, the first openly transgender athlete to compete in the Olympic games. Is it fair for a transgender to compete on the Olympic stage? Dane Miller who's one of the founders of Earth Fed Muscle uploaded a video onto his YouTube Channel Garage Strength, describing why it isn't fair for Laurel Hubbard to compete with other women on the Olympic level. Cheyne and Luis are still adjusting to their new studio down at Presher Fitness. There was an entire video shoot held by Eboost going on in the background. The stimulation is real. (unsponsored plug)
Cheyne and Luis have a brand new studio, it's the Presher Fitness boxing studio. Therefore, the opinions expressed by More Than Meatheads are not necessarily the same or endorsed by Presher Fitness. Cheyne and Luis quickly recap the Bonefrog race discussed in the previous episode and go into the more emotional component and the significance of this race for Luis. Trainers and Coaches are still people and they experience the normal emotional process that other people do. Trainers and Coaches should still want to be challenged and work towards something, which is why Cheyne has signed up for a strength competition. Nice! Cheyne and Luis start a new segment called "Meme Busters". Cheyne and Luis take a popular fitness meme and deconstruct it for it's intended purpose but it's unfortunate trajectory and final resting place.
Cheyne and Luis discuss Luis' experience at a Bonefrog race and how it felt to be back in the field and what one should expect. Our Producer got to experience this race as well and what she went through and what her progress has become. The goal for each race is to have the next one be less terrible. Now with travel opening up more and Cheyne having come back from his trip to California. Cheyne and Luis discuss nutritional travel tips. Do your research about what your trip is going to be. Is it a vacation with minimal activity, a tour where many miles will be covered in a day or a visit where it's some activity but not too much? Planning and organization are pivotal. Cheyne then does a complete deep dive into the Subway sandwich tuna fish scandal. Like a thorough explanation which will leave you with no questions and more information than you would ever want to know.
First off, forgive the first 16 minutes of this episode. The Audio Department (Luis) messed up and didn't realize that the microphones weren't plugged in and the audio was being recorded by the laptop microphone. #learningcuve Cheyne and Luis discuss "The Murph" workout and the opportunity to switch up your training by dropping in and taking a class at Presher fitness. Keeping with the theme of classes, Cheyne and Luis discuss Luis' "Fight" class at Presher fitness. Furthering the theme of classes, Cheyne and Luis discuss what Cheyne has been up to for the past 14 years and what he has accomplished. The topic of self sabotage and fear of the unknown is also discussed and how to fight against these factors. Discipline while no one is watching is what builds character. It's not easy but it is a reality check. Be honest with yourself and put in an honest effort. It's scary but coming out on the other side your vulnerability will be your new strength. Lots of good stuff in this episode. Listen to it and pass it on to everyone you know.
Cheyne and Luis are back... Again! Cheyne and Luis have taken an unscheduled but much needed hiatus from the podcast, but in the meantime they have occupied themselves with life and adventure. Well, Luis has. In this episode we dive into essentially what Luis has been up to. He's taken yet another road trip to Florida and begins his journey to find out whether or not he has inherited his mother's talent with plants and gardening. After returning from his road trip Luis participates in his first obstacle course race in over 15 months. It was quite the experience. Luis also talks about his recent experience with his Uncle and helping him clean out a room. Cheyne and Luis discuss how people identify themselves via objects and how that mentality also relates to our health and wellness. This is a very Luis heavy content episode with the prize of the next episode being very Cheyne heavy.
Cheyne and Luis are back! Cheyne and Luis have a great conversation with Nick Shaw of RP Strength. Nick shares the origin story of how RP Strength came to be and how his collaboration with Dr. Mike Israetel 10 years ago created one of the most popular and effective nutritional tracking apps. Nick is a huge believer on the long term focus. No shortcuts here. Consistency over time and evidence based over time is the key to success. Not being focused on the outcome but focused on the process. Cheyne and Luis have a positive and real conversation with Nick Shaw that anyone can listen to and benefit from, very much like the RP Strength app.
Cheyne and Luis discuss the new opportunities presented in their lives regarding health and wellness. With the advent of Spring, more locations are opening up which give chances to try other things. Life can sometimes provide a buffet of avenues for one to achieve their desired goals or simply just more than one way. The key is to see the opportunity and to take it. Cheyne and Luis also discuss how it was "National Take a Walk" day and how taking a walk can lead to many other things. Also, how to convince someone you know how to take a walk with you and creating a positive environment. Rate, review (there still the glitch of only 5 stars being accepted so don't try to give less) and comment, then forward on to all your friends and family. It's believed that if you do, good fortune will fall upon you. You're lucky numbers are...
Here it is! Part 2 of the Mark Bell interview. In this second part, Mark Bell talks to Cheyne and Luis about finding balance in your life. It can't be all about work and it can't be all about play. Finding the balance between the two will give you the path to doing what you love. This mentality is what lead Mark Bell to create his own path. Not only did Mark Bell create his own path, he also created his own products: Sling Shot, Hip Circle, Steak protein mix, Bicep board, Infinity Loop are just a few of the creations from the Mark Bell camp. If you listened to part 1 you're definitely going to want to listen to part 2. You haven't listened to part 1 yet? WTF?! Ok, we'll wait here until you do. Ok, you're back. Now listen to this and tell everyone you know about it.
Cheyne and Luis talk about how Luis may have a neighbor that is either his twin or is baiting him. We don't know, stay tuned. Speaking of updates, Cheyne and Luis start teasing pt. 2 of the Mark Bell conversation and what to expect from that. "The acquisition of strength takes time" is just one of the many nuggets of knowledge dropped by Mark Bell. In the Current Events portion of the episode Cheyne and Luis discuss the astronaut diet and exercise program for potential Mars bound astronauts and how zero gravity affects the body. Also discussed is apple cider vinegar and wtf it is and what the health benefit claims are. Rate, review and forward to all your friends and family.
Cheyne and Luis have a conversation with Elite Level Powerlifter, Business Owner, Inventor, Entrepreneur aka The Meathead Millionaire Mark Bell! In part 1 of 2 of the conversation with Mark Bell, he discusses with Cheyne and Luis how he achieved his success and what it has taken for him to get there. "The greatest marker of success is progress", Mark is a huge believer in trying to be better than what you were yesterday. Also, if you want to be and do better surround yourself with like minded people. This episode is resplendent with information and positive vibes AND IT'S ONLY PART 1!!! Listen and enjoy and share with everyone you know.
Cheyne and Luis have another remote podcast and have a great conversation with Dr. Rick Richey. Rick is a Fitness Educator and Entrepreneur who grew up in Alabama, moved to Atlanta and is currently in New York City. Rick discusses with Cheyne and Luis about his trajectory to New York and his recent transgressions as a business owner of multiple fitness locations in NYC during these pandemic times. As the founder of Independent Training Spot (I.T.S.) Rick has learned how to make the best out of the usage of space when space is limited. A lot of it has to do with his mentality, Rick has growth mindset which incorporates elements of finding a motive and not motivation and minimizing emotional connection when making big decisions. Believe it or not fitness is also discussed but all in all a great conversation is had. Give a listen and tell all your friends about it.
Cheyne and Luis discuss daylight savings and how to adjust to the time change. Do you ask yourself close ended questions that don't leave room for other opportunities? Or is your self talk more open ended that leaves a chance for positive growth. Mark Bell from the Power Project is a major believer in positive self talk. Cheyne and Luis discuss ideas brought up by Mark Bell for positive self talk. Also discussed is F.O.M.O. and mental health. The feeling of missing out on something when there is so little going on due to current circumstances is a thing. Defining what you are "missing out" on and realizing that you're actually not missing out on anything is the first step towards vanquishing your fear. In the Current Events portion, Cheyne and Luis discuss BMI and how a Nintendo Wii Fit claimed Luis to be obese.
Cheyne and Luis discuss ideas, thoughts, approaches, mentalities and other things we thought were bad to do before but actually aren't as bad as previously thought. One of the biggest topics discussed is knees over toes. Every newbie trainer is told to put the body in anatomical alignment from toes to ankles to knees to hips to shoulders when assessing someone and never ever forever and ever allow someone's knees to go over their toes. Turns out that if you've ever gone up a flight of stairs, you know this is malarky. Other topics such as eating fat being bad, cardio before weights, muscle training frequency and no carbs after 7 are also brought up. Listen in and share with everyone you know because >Meatheads has always and will always be a Yes Yes.
Cheyne really opens up in this episode. Cheyne and Luis discuss Cheyne's recent visit to the doctor to talk about Cheyne's internal posterior concerns. Cheyne's dedication to content notwithstanding, this is a really good episode in terms of taking care of yourself and avoiding a worse outcome and normalizing talking about such things. Luis talks about eating too much cannabis butter and just feeling assed out useless. Also discussed is what to eat post workout and dispelling old school rumors and myths. This topic also ties into how binge watching TV has a strong correlation to binge eating.
Cheyne and Luis are officially Spartan Group exercise instructors! Cheyne and Luis discuss their plans to bring Spartan obstacle course race training to the masses. Their expertise isn't just based on their experiences during a race, but is now endorsed by Spartan itself. A major component for race training is coaching. The method in which coaching is implemented when done properly is criticism, when done incorrectly is critiquing. This doesn't necessarily have to be done by someone else, we can do this to ourselves. Cheyne and Luis discuss self coaching and how to treat yourself like a long term relationship and not one night standing yourself. Also discussed are five good reasons to eat carbs. Tell everyone you know about this episode!!!
Cheyne and Luis discuss the potential of breaking into Cameo'esque style workouts and the potential that market can bring. Give someone you care about (or don't like) a video workout by Cheyne or Luis. Cheyne and Luis then discuss the difference between simple and easy. The concept of running a marathon is simple, you start and you're not done until you reach the finish line, it's not easy. Meal prepping for a week sounds simple enough, sticking to that plan may not be easy. Cheyne and Luis provide tips towards "mastering the mundane" in order to level out the playing field a bit more between simple and easy.
Cheyne and Luis have a chat with easily one of the busiest people in the fitness industry, Anthony Crouchelli. Anthony has over 10 years in the fitness industry which include Equinox, Rumble Boxing and Grit Boxing. Anthony currently finds himself as the Director of Group Fitness for Presher Fitness and Talent Manager for LiteBoxer, we suspect he also runs the community bake sale on the weekends. Anthony also has what appears to be an alphabet soup of credentials in certifications and credentials. With all this information Anthony is still an incredibly positive person who just wants to spread his message of positivity and where he thinks the fitness industry is going. We were glad to be able to have a conversation with Anthony as he commuted between jobs on the train from Boston to NYC.
Cheyne and Luis ask the very important question, when are you too old to stop flirting? After much debate the topic shifts to the photoshoot Cheyne was a witness to over the weekend. The fine balance between accurate content for social media and the stuff that will get the likes. It's very easy to become a virtual signaling director for virtual content. The easiest way to avoid this is to have an expert on set. After the main topic Cheyne and Luis move on to a potential new segment called "Fortune Cookie". After listening to this segment you'll realize why Cheyne thinks he should go first next time. Cheyne and Luis are happy to announce their first affiliate "Earth Fed Muscle". Enter earthfedmuscle.com/morethanmeatheads for a 10% discount on your entire purchase.
Cheyne and Luis are happy to announce their first affiliate "Earth Fed Muscle". Enter earthfedmuscle.com/morethanmeatheads for a 10% discount on your entire purchase. In this episode Cheyne and Luis discuss focus and time management as it relates to Parkinson's Law, which is when you have too much time to complete a task that should only take a fraction of the time. Cheyne and Luis also discuss how to focus your energy when you don't have as much structure as you used to have. Taking 5 to 10 minutes for yourself in order to focus and learning how to "act with violent desperation but not act desperately" can be a huge game changers!
