Its been a very long and difficult three weeks Peeps but I am ready to share some things with you all. I lost my beloved baby brother this month. Here is my version of what should have run as part of his Obituary, McCall, Robert Henry - Sunrise date, April 8, 1956, Sunset date April 6, 2021 in Montgomery, Montgomery County, Alabama. He was the youngest of two children, born to the late Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson McCall and the late Mr. Robert “Buddy” McCall of Montgomery, Alabama. He was the grandson of the late Rev. Robert (Paw Punch) McCall and the late Roseanna (Rudolph) McCall of Lowndes County and Montgomery, Alabama (Paternal) and the late Vera Finerson Poole and the late Henry Robinson (Maternal). Robert received his early education at a private children's preschool that was at the end of the block from their family home on Vine Street, which is now the middle of I-85 near Fairview Avenue. After preschool graduation, he began attending Fews Elementary School under the direction of Mrs. Katie Fews Evans whose father founded the school for Black students as the first elementary school on the west side of town. I will mourn his loss for sometime to come. I can no longer call him twice a month or visit on a whim but 37 years is a long time to say good-bye to someone you love. Rev. Rose H. I hope that you will leave a comment, continue following and listening and be blessed by my podcast! This week is about VISUALIZATION - using your mind to "see" your goal in order to achieve it. Positive Visualization In order to achieve the type of success you want in life, you must VISUALIZE IT! In other words, – see it as it happens – wear the CROWN as if you already had it. You must be able to ask and answer the following questions: a) What do you want out of this pageant? Scholarship money for school, make friends, advance your cause or platform or do you shoot for a bigger fish – a national title and the money that comes with it?; b) Do you know the competition and are not worried because you are better than the rest? NEVER assume that you are so good that you do not have to STUDY the ones you compete against. Like any good sportswoman (and believe me, pageantry is the Super bowl for women) PREPARE for the game by studying your opponents. If you know their strengths and weaknesses, YOU stay ahead of them in the minefield of life; c) What is your end goal for being here? What do you plan to achieve? Do you have a “Master” plan to the crown? (Excerpt from my book "The Beauty Queen's Little Instruction Book"! https://triplecrownpag2019.wixsite.com/msalsramerica2020 Rev. Rose H. My Social Impact Initiative is a daunting task but it must start somewhere. "Nowhere to live: Homelessness in America", is about the lack of fair, equal and affordable housing available in not just America but around the world. I was awe-struck during the Summer Olympics held in Brazil, when they profiled the Favelas, the substandard shanty areas where the majority of Black Brazil lives. What we have in America look like a paradise, compared to them. Our slums and "re-engineered housing complexes" need replacing - period. The average cost of housing in Montgomery is about $650 - 1200 a month and we have approximately 6000 units of everything from apartments to house for sale and or rent. The WORLD needs to take a step back after the dust settles and consider 1) A decent living wage, 2) the cost of a meal/eating in general; and 3) HOUSING to get people off the streets. Like many of our Community - Black and White the world over we will spend this week in mourning Chadwick Boseman as if we KNEW him but there are three things to also take note of about how he lived and died. 1) He was diagnosed in 2016 - before he made his landmark movie. He underwent treatments, surgery and continued to "cover up" his sickness. He never allowed it to "overtake" him. 2) Hollywood is a very particular community. If you let one hint of illness show, you run the risk of being "passed over for jobs", agents might leave, leading to divulging your secret, so you keep it hidden. 3) And finally you work until EVERYTHING is done that you can possibly afford to do. I watch Chinese and Korean Drams every day after I make my runs and get back in safely. Its fun because I am learning a smattering of both languages to the point I understood a small Korean girl ask her mother, "Why not?" I know its not much but for me, that's huge! Remembering the words of Rodney King after the most recent shooting, "Why can't we all just get along?" True - staying locked away from our friends and families is no fun but until this virus stops reinventing itself and we get a vaccine, we will never get rid of it at the rate we're going. The pandemic has seen a rise in domestic violence of more than 35% because women, children, families, are trapped at home with their abusers. YOU can get help. YOU can get out. Well its July 25th and by the end of next week there will potentially be 25 Million people with no place to live, thanks to COVID-19 and the high cost of living in America. I was born in the home my parents bought, grew up in the home my Mom bought when I was a teen; lived there until long after my Federal Jobs, until my brother sold her home due to ALZ. To shorten a long story, not everyone can afford a place to stay regardless of home much they make, especially in the midst of a financial crisis. As the premier NATION in this world, we have the capacity to do something about the housing crisis if don't let greed get in the door first. There is a solution but can we get it done? Rev. Rose H. In 1967 at the age of 13 I watched the earth movers and backhoes dig out my neighborhood from our perch at the edge of our block with my brother Robert. It was decided that the Eisenhower Interstate Highway would cut a swath through West Montgomery and head east , barely missing the local high school, Catholic school and church and and few other places. My mom was given just enough to pay for a "fixer-upper" two blocks from our old house and three blocks from the new highway. Friends and families were lost forever. Rev. Rose H.
