Charmaine Rayment is a voluntary missionary at Jews for Jesus. She has a real passion for worship ministry. Rayment has agreed to become a contributor to a podcast series called “A Life of Worship”. This is part four of a series devoted to the Tabernacle of the Lord. Below, you will find some notes from the episode as well as the podcast itself. Enjoy listening. Notes from this episode Music by Avihu Medina Shalom listeners! Today we will explore the courtyard of praise and how to enter into an attitude of praise Psalm 100:4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving (tôwdâh), and His courts with praise (tehillâh)! Praise (yâdâh) Him; bless (bârâk) His name! SEVEN KEY HEBREW WORDS FOR PRAISE The word praise appears many times in the bible however we lose the exact meaning in the English language. Hebrew has seven words to describe praise. I would like to encourage you to take a concordance and everywhere you see the word “praise” in your bible, write down the Hebrew word next to it and you will get a better understanding of what is being said. I am just going to give a brief description of the seven Hebrew words for praise. The references have been added so that you may look them up for their full meaning. Hâlal (Strong’s Concordance 1984) To praise God explosively and enthusiastically. (Primary root of the word hallelujah Psalm 22:23 “I will declare Your Name to my brothers. I will praise (Hâlal) You amid the Congregation. Psalm 63:6 …so my mouth praises (Hâlal) You with joyful lips. Psalm 69:31 I will praise (Hâlal) God’s Name with a song, and magnify Him with praise. Psalm 150 Tehillâh (Strong’s Concordance 8416) To sing praises extravagantly. Psalm 40:4 “He put a new song in my mouth – a hymn of praise (Tehillâh) to our God. Many will see and fear and trust in ADONAI.” Psalm 22:4 “Yet You are holy, enthroned on the praises (Tehillâh) of Israel. Psalm 34:2 “I will bless (Barak) ADONAI at all times. His praise (Tehillâh) is continually in my mouth.” Psalm 66:2 “Sing the glory of His Name – make His praise (Tehilâah) glorious.” Shâbach (Strong’s Concordance 7623) To shout; to exclaim praise, to proclaim with a loud voice. Psalm 63:4 “Since Your loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise (Shâbach) you.” Psalm 117:1 “Praise (Shâbach) ADONAI, all you nations! Glorify Him, all you people. Psalm 145:4 “One generation will praise (Shâbach) Your works to another and declare Your mighty acts. Psalm 147:12 “Exalt ADONAI, (Shâbach) O Jerusalem! Praise (Hâlal) your God, O Zion. Yâdâh (Strong’s Concordance 3034) To worship or revere with raised or extended hands. Psalm 134:2 “Lift up your hands (Yâdâh) in the sanctuary and bless ADONAI.” Psalm 9:2 “I will praise (Yâdâh) ADONAI with my whole heart. I will tell about all your wonders.” Psalm 7:18 “I will praise (Yâdâh) ADONAI for His justice. I sing praise to the Name of ADONAI Elyon!” Psalm 54:8 “I will sacrifice a freewill offering to You. I will praise (Yâdâh) Your Name.” Psalm 142:8 “Bring my soul out of prison, so I may praise (Yâdâh) Your Name.” Tôwdâh (Strong’s Concordance 8426) To give thanks; to extend the hands in thanksgiving. Psalm 100:4 “Enter His gates with thanksgiving (Tôwdâh) and His courts with praise (Tehillâh)! Praise (Yâdâh) Him, bless (Barak) His Name.” Psalm 50:23 “A sacrifice of praise (Tôwdah) honors Me, and to the one who orders his way, I will show the salvation of God.” Psalm 116:17 “To You I will offer a sacrifice of praise (Tôwdâh), and I will call on the Name of ADONAI.” Bârak (Strong’s Concordance 1288) To bless God as an act of adoration; to kneel expectantly and quietly before him. Psalm 145:21 “My mouth declares the praise of ADONAI. Let all flesh bless (Bârak) His holy Name forever and ever!” Psalm 34:2 “I will bless (Bârak) ADONAI at all times. His praise (Tehillâh) is continually in my mouth.” Psalm 63:5 “So I will bless (Bârak) You as long as I live. In Your name I lift up my hands. Psalm 72:15 “…May he pray for him continually and bless (Bârak) him all day. Zâmar (Strong’s Concordance 2167) To use musical instruments. Sometimes accompanied by the voice. Psalm 33:2 “Praise ADONAI with the harp. Sing (Zâmar) praises to Him with a ten-string lyre.” Psalm 98:5 “Sing (Zâmar) praises to ADONAI with the harp, with the harp and a voice of melody.” Psalm 144:9 “God I sing a new song to You, on a ten-string harp (Zâmar) I sing praises (Tehillâh) to You.” The Hebrew word most used in the Old Testament for worship is shâchâh (Strong’s Concordance 7812) meaning prostrate; bow down. The Greek word most used in the New Testament for worship is prŏskunĕō (Strong’s Concordance 4352) meaning to prostrate oneself in homage. As we enter the courtyard of praise, let’s examine the kind of worship that David instituted and which can be seen in the book of Psalms. NINE WORSHIP POSTURES FOUND IN THE BOOK OF PSALMS VOICE Speak! Psalm 34:1 I will bless ADONAI at all time. His praise is continually in my mouth. Sing! Psalm 47:7 Sing praises to God, sing praises! Charmaine Rayment is a voluntary missionary at Jews for Jesus. She has a real passion for worship ministry. Rayment has agreed to become a contributor to a podcast series called “A Life of Worship”. This is part one in a series documenting The Tabernacle: The Golden Altar of Incense. Below, you will find some notes from the episode as well as the podcast itself. Enjoy listening. Notes from this episode music from Hillsong THE GOLDEN ALTAR OF INCENSE PART 1 (YESHUA THE HIGH PRIEST – PRAYER AND INTERCESSION) Part of our worship is prayer and intercession. God has called each believer to be a holy and royal priesthood. I Peter 2:5 you also as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house, be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Messiah Yeshua. I Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Under the Old Covenant, the Altar of Incense was in the Holy Place and only the High Priest could minister before the Lord. In Hebrews 9:2-4 we read that the Altar of Incense is in the Most Holy Place. The curtain has been torn and we can all come directly into the presence of God to minister as a holy and royal priesthood. THE FOUR HORNS OF THE ALTAR OF INCENSE Altar – Worship Incense – Prayer The horn is a symbol of power, strength and defense and all of the above can be found in the horns of: Praise, Worship, Prayer & Intercession. Revelation 5:8…the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. Revelation 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne, 4 and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. THE HORNS OF THANKSGIVING, PRAISE & WORSHIP DIRECT ACCESS TO GOD THROUGH THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE When entering the Tabernacle, we are exhorted to “Enter his gates with thanksgiving (tôwdâh), and his courts with praise (tehillâh)! Give thanks (yâdâh) to him; bless (bârâk) his name!” Psalm 100:4 THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE Thank God for all His goodness and for all He has done for us. Praise God for His greatness. Even the Lords’ prayer begins with honouring the Name of God. Matthew 6:9 Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Luke 11:1 Father, hallowed be your name. THE HORN OF PRAISE Praise moves our focus onto the One whom we are praising. Praise brings encouragement – Names and character of God. Praise builds our faith – Praise lifts our eyes from our circumstances to our almighty Father who is the Ruler over all. Praise brings deliverance – 2 Chron. 20:1-30 King Jehoshaphat. Praise lifts our eyes from the battle to the victory. THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE LEAD TO WORSHIP Psalm 95:1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. 3 For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods. 4 In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also. 5 The sea is His, for He made it; And His hands formed the dry land. 6 Oh come let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our maker. 7 For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, The sheep of His hand. THE HORN OF WORSHIP Worship is primarily an attitude. During worship we become totally focused on God and thus the lines of communication are open for God to speak to us through His Spirit. It is important to hear what God is saying so that we can pray and intercede according to the will of God. 1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Charmaine Rayment is a voluntary missionary at Jews for Jesus. She has a real passion for worship ministry. Sister Charmaine has agreed to become a contributor to a podcast series called “A Life of Worship”. This is part two of a teaching series entitled “Abraham’s Act of Worship”. Below, you will find some notes from the episode as well as the podcast itself. Enjoy listening. Notes from this episode ABRAHAM’S ACT OF WORSHIP PART 2 OBEDIENCE Just as worship involves hearing accurately from God, it also involves total obedience to his instructions. I Samuel / Sh’mu’el Alef 15:22 Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay heed than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination and stubbornness is like iniquity and idolatry. Abraham could only have arrived at the exact place by listening and obeying. Obedience to God’s instructions will lead us to his provision for us. Verses 13 Then Abraham lifted up his eyes and behold, there was a ram, just caught in the thick bushes by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 Abraham named that place, ADONAI Yireh, – as it is said today, “On the mountain, ADONAI will provide.” Here we see God’s provision for the sacrifice, however please notice that the provision would not have been there if Abraham had not been in the right place. He had to go to the exact location that God told him to go to. We need to make sure that we are in the centre of God’s will for our lives. Whatever plans God has for us, the provision will be there provided we walk in obedience. What do you understand by obedience? Is God requiring you to respond in obedience to something in your life right now? Will you obey even if the cost is high? ACTION Verse 4: On the third day, Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from a distance. To fulfil God’s command, required action on Abraham’s part. He still had to walk the distance as well as climb the mountain. How often do we expect everything to just ‘happen’? However, action also requires faith. The journey took three days and three nights and it was during that time that God gave Abraham the necessary specific instructions. During those three days can you just imagine the kind of thoughts that must have gone through Abraham’s mind? To walk in faith means to trust God implicitly. Trust is built through relationship which in turn is built through spending time alone with God. How is your relationship with God? How do you react when God gives instructions? Do you sit back waiting for something to happen or do you begin to act in faith remembering that God’s timing is crucial? What do you understand by ‘walking in faith’? SEPARATION Verse 5: Abraham said to his young men, “Sit yourselves down here with the donkey. As for me and the young man, we’ll go over there, worship and return to you.” Here we see Abraham separating himself from the group in order for him and his son to go and worship. As important as corporate worship is, we do need to separate ourselves and spend time alone with God. As with any relationship, you only really get to know someone when you spend quality time alone with that person How often do you take time out to be alone with God? Do you like spending time alone with God or does it feel like performing a duty? What keeps you from spending alone time with God? How can you change your alone time with God so that it becomes a blessing? If you are finding that you don’t have time to be alone with God, then what can you change in your schedule that will give you more time?

So I stumbled on a true legend earlier. His name is Max Hurrell and he’s a cool cat music producer in Cape Town. An entire government minister referred to the practice smoking marijuana as “zol”. “When people zol”, to be exact. This particular item was inspired by a press conference by Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma unpacking the level four lockdown regulations. The media would have us believe that our darling president is being held to ransom by his errant cabinet. He announces the lockdown. They take away people’s cigarettes and booze. They ban the sale of magazines, bringing whole companies to their knees. This is the story of the South African lockdown. A prince charming President and his rogue state. You see, Cyril Ramaphosa moved us from level five to level four lockdown at the stroke of midnight on 30 April 2020. The next day malls started filling up. Traffic increased on the roads. And nobody wore a face mask. This in circumstances where top government scientists were proven wrong in their most recent projections. A bad thing was supposed to happen by now. A massive spike in infections. But the curve remained flat. They have decided that it is safe for millions to return to work. Consequently, they have no clue! And all of this under rather strict conditions, I might add. It will be interesting to see how they enforce these regulations and what the results might be. Maybe they just want white monopoly capital off their backs?! Certainly, we will let the people risk their lives to do the things that make you rich. When people zol And then a lone inspector arrives at your socially distanced sweat shop. “Mr Patel, I see you are not observing social distance rules! Also, why is nobody wearing a mask!” And with that, the lone inspector shuts down the sweatshop and sends everyone home. Except Mr Patel. He’s off to jail. It’s all highly probable. Tomorrow is subject only to the imagination.

One of my most memorable interviews was with a veteran newsman who suffered no fools. This was compiled for SABC Radio. I have reproduced it on the Spudcaster page. It tells the life story of a veteran newsman, who lived and breathed the struggle against apartheid. And he penned many a short story to tell the tale.

I stumbled upon the name for this podcasting platform, quite by chance. I was visiting the National Zoo in Pretoria, and this painting of a baobab tree really grabbed my attention. There's a mini market where artists sell their wares at the Zoo's entrance. The artist is known only as Bab'Grand. The tree is a symbol for a meeting place in African tradition. The idea for the podcast, Spudcaster, was born from my love of a simba chip ad when I was a kid. They were all chanting "I want to be a simba chippie" and then one potato rolls off the back of the truck and they zoom in on him saying "I osso wanted to be a simba tsipie" (this is the typical accent associated with coloured people). I loved that add. So baobulb is a combination of the spud and the symbolic tree. You can find this and other podcasts on the Spudcaster page. I had a rather uncomfortable experience when I participated in the 2018 Colour Run in Johannesburg. As one of my first forays into podcasting, I compiled this short episode. Contact us if you’re interested in setting up your own podcast!
